Pip ~ When you used to have your food diary open, I peeked and it looked like you ate very few calories compared with all the calories you burned. I can see why you would not gain. Envy your perseverance!
Rye ~ So sorry you are having to walk to work in this cold. It was 13* here in my part of GA today and we are just not equipped to handle that. Hope your pipes do not freeze. That made me realize we need to call our renter and tell her to drip the faucets.
Lisa ~ I understood what you meant when you said everything had reached the point that y'all could be your true selves.
Dr. Kay ~ On my way home from spending the NY's day with my BnL & SnL, I realized that my Snl's older sister lives in Jefferson.
One thing that I am happy about today is this ~ I deliberately did not weigh during the Christmas Season and found out that I had not gained any weight. I understand that I should aim to lose 25 lbs but my goal is just not to get any bigger.

Just a quick pop in: I am enjoying reading everyone's New Year words and ideas for taking control of their health and life! Yea, US! Reminds me of why I love this group of strong women! So many different ways to approach health and life and we are all united here, to support each other. Woo-Hoo! (Where IS that button, when I want/need it?!)
My word that I have chosen for 2018 is Resilience. S**t happens; and when it does, it usually throws a monkey wrench into my carefully laid plans. (At least, I allow it to muck everything up). I am going to be resilient and take the S**t, let it bounce off, or wipe it off, and keep my focus on my goals. I will stand strong in the face of death, job loss, weight gain, financial woes (all s**t that hit me last year). Resilient like a tree or reed that bends in the wind; but doesn't break.
I am on my last couple of days visiting my DD and her family in Texas. Looking forward to meeting with Cathy and Suebdew, they will be coming out to Burleson to have a brunch at my DD's house! Unfortunately, we couldn't get a time that worked for all, so I will have to meet up with Re and Rye on my next visit down (which, I think ,will be in September or October).
To all who posted that mfp stats link, THANK YOU! I will have to look that up! I am thinking yogurt will be one of my most "posted" foods, most likely eggs, also. I am some what worried wine and egg nog will show up after my holiday naughtiness! Time to get back on the wagon. I will actually be cooking dinner tonight for the kids! Yea!
Well, going to do a bit of laundry and cleaning while Joaquin is at the doctor's office. 9 month check up, which means he will be getting the next series of immunizations (I think it is three or four shots). He should be pleasant to be around todayDD asked if I wanted to go along. Ummmm...no thanks. With my luck Joaquin will get the shots and look at me (as the person who is different, in the room) and think I have something to do with it. I would rather stay in "good grandma" standing. I introduced him to home made chocolate chip cookies and butternut squash soup this week. I earned some major brownie points with him, I think!

Man, look at you guys... it's only the 2nd and you are already at 7 pages. *sigh* I can never keep up!
Hi Karen! Thanks for coming to find me.
I have had a serious melt-down this year for the holidays. It started even before Thanksgiving. I managed to eat every single thing that wasn't nailed down and I swear I pried a few things up, too.
So, for the coming year, I have moved my calories to lose only a half pound a week. I was pretty successful until I dropped down to under 1500 calories a day. I swear, I have a mental block against eating less.... So, I will just aim to lose the *gasp* 20 lbs that I have gained in the last two months and then take my time.
Thankfully, although I ate a ridiculous amount over the last two months, I did not lose my exercise habits - and in fact I am starting with a personal trainer tomorrow night - twice a week for four weeks, just to see how it goes.
Today is my first day back on eating plan. I have pretty much just allowed myself to eat whatever I wanted - every bad, horrible thing, since Thanksgiving - so the gain is no mystery to me... but, now it's back on the wagon for this girl. It's been a long time since I had to worry about my clothes getting too tight! I am not going to go any further
down that road.
I will try to check in here, once in a while, but, I make no promises... I miss you guys, and I might have to get a smarter phone, so I can access MFP from work again.
But, until that day, I will be an infrequent visitor.
Hugs and Love!

Hi Sisters, it's my first day back at the office today. I also need to run out to the beehives and take some queens out.
Machka, I always book mark this thread using the golden star and i don't get any notifications at all, so there must be a setting somewhere that you can turn off notifications? I don't remember turning it off but maybe I did. I live life so fast that i certainly don't remember every little action I take.
Frankies Girl, I think your word just might be "Consistency" LOL.
I like all the ideas on No Spending and using up what's in your cupboards and freezer. We are starting this year for the next six months with a reduced paycheck...but our expenses have not been reduced. The plan is to cut our mortgages in half as soon as we get paid out for our shares, but that doesn't happen till June so we will just have to tighten the belt and struggle through for the next 12 paydays. I have cut back expenses where I can, ie I dropped my gym membership and I am doing daily morning workouts instead. I think this is actually better for me anyway as I am better off with a daily routine before the day starts and my good intentions get de railed. I am also cutting way down on using gas, staying home more which is hard on me as I get so restless and bored. I am a born wanderer, always wanting to see or do something new.
I am trying to start my Post Christmas fast and drop the pounds I gained over the holidays. I did a partial fast yesterday which helps to get my appetite levels down. Sometimes it takes a few days of trying before I can get my fast started, but usually after one day it gets easy to stay on it till I choose to eat again. Most of the pav, chocolate and icecream is all gone now and if I stay home, stay busy, stay out of the supermarket I can control my desire to buy more.
Usually when I run, I don't gain weight as long as I control my eating, but I don't lose weight either. I see running as a way to maintain my weight. Cutting calories by fasting or semi-fasting is my tool of choice for dropping pounds. Okay darlings, time to start my new morning routine inspired by Barbie, the model of virtue.Wendy

Wendy: I can't imagine a male in his mid-twenties without a driver's license unless he lost it due to poor driving or DUI. (driving under the influence of intoxicants). My kids are older--son is in his forties and daughter is in her late 30's. I still worry about them regularly, but they're both past the time of driving DUI. Not so sure about DSIL. DS got caught once and had to go to classes ordered by the judge. Luckily there was no wreck and no one hurt in his misadventure and his record is squeaky clan now.
Sharon: Last summer a friend stopped by to share news about one of our mutual friends who was newly widowed. Along the way she remarked about how awful it is that there aren't any bees. We stopped at the end of our sidewalk where I have some native flowers planted & I directed her gaze there. The wildflowers were full of honeybees. Planting flowers helps, and so does avoiding insecticide sprays. As individuals we can't fix the whole problem, but we can make a tiny difference that makes the difference between life and death for at least some of our precious bees.
Viv in York: Happy New Years to you! I hope the year gets better for your family. Your poor grandson has had a rough time. I hope he feels better soon. :flowerforyou:
Machka: I love the photo of the sailboats in the harbor. Thank you for sharing!
Tere in RVA: Happy New Year to you, too!
Karen in VA: I love the word pluck. Great choice. :flowerforyou:
Barbie: Our weather was bad enough that the dedicated fireworks crowd across the river in WA stayed home. Thank goodness. The bangs they set off wreck our poor little dog & he has more than enough health challenges right now. Thank you for keeping our group together by starting a new thread each month. I am grateful to you for the role you play in keeping this thread going. It is a lifeline.
I'm out of time for now and not even close to having read everyone's posts. I'll play catch up later.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Katla, my daughter's boyfriend is 26 and he lives in walking distance to the job he's had at a gas station for 8 years and he lives at home with his mother, so I guess she does the grocery shopping and drives him if he needs to go somewhere. Big Flag: Mama's Boy. And my daughter is attracted to men that she can "mother" and be essential to their life...She didn't come home last night so I don't know where she spent the night and I don't know what's going on with her and boyfriend, but she rang me up in a screaming meltdown yesterday when she got home and couldn't find her chihuahua. Thought she'd run away and blamed me for letting her out of the house. "She's the only thing I have left!" she sobbed. Thank God Molly showed up soon after. Major Crises. LOL. Daughter number two also didn't show up last night so maybe she has moved into her new flat. Neither one bothered to text and let me know...

I faithfully log everything every day (except Christmas Day and Boxing Day) and I rarely go over CICO. Even so I have recently gained a few pounds and I put it down to alcohol, which, I believe, affects the body's metabolism. This is my second AF day.
I am much helped by the AF beers.
I have one small one with my dinner. Low in calories. I gave myself a gold star on my alcohol chart yesterday and will add another today. I print a nice calendar page from Word.
I have been absolutely starving these last two days since I started my extra exercise, but I am keeping my eating under control. I am going to weigh on Friday. Then every Monday and Friday.
I'm looking forward to my 2nd day of c25k tomorrow. My yoga friend is going to try out "walking netball". My belt and hook earphones should arrive tomorrow. I don't want them for music, but for the voice of the c25k podcast. Normally I prefer the sounds of the outside.

OK you do have your hands full with 4 kids still at home! I am 55, a retired Navy Chiefs wife, married 33 years, have 3 sons. One is stationed in Washington state at a squadron. Another is in transition, having done his 4 years in the Navy, married, and is going to have the Navy pay for his electrical college, when he does start. Wife is starting first, also out of the Navy, studying to be a nurse. My youngest has just entered the Nuclear Navy, so he will be in the next 2 years.
I have recommitted myself, (just without the straight jacket), to losing 50 lbs this year. I am presently 244.8 lbs. Oh to get into Onederland again!
Nice to meet you!

Becca,
You must have had an exciting time being married to a Navy Chief? Did you travel a lot during that time?
Karen UK
Well when I met him, he was a 1st class petty officer. So it was a couple years before he made Chief. We spent 7 years (2 tours), in Japan, and the rest in California, at different places every 4 years. He retired with 20 years in, at the age of 37. At that point, I recall the Navy just signing him out, not retiring him. So I remember having two kids, pregnant with third, the Navy not paying us, husband learning how to wear a civilian suit looking for a job, me a non-driver, and living in Fairfield, California. I would yell at my dear husband saying there is nothing fair about this place! Its 105' outside, you have moved me to hell! Lol!
My last son, now in Navy Nuke school, never was a Navy brat, never knowing that life of always moving. He was our retirement bonus! I can look at him and always remember we got out in 1998.
We have lived in 16 different places during our 33 year marriage. Some for just a year until we got on base housing. Its been a great journey so far!
Some cute sailor pics
Husband
Chief husband
Eldest son (has been in the Navy for 9 years)
Middle son (he's out of the Navy after doing his 4 years)
Youngest son (will be in nuke school for 2 years before he starts the Navy)
Sorry this is a long post!

Barbie, I like your only 3 meals a day and wish I could do that. I have low blood sugar so should eat about 8 times a day. I have the hardest time in the evenings but try not to eat anything after 7. So a lot of planning to spread the calories out. I tend to eat the same things to make it easier.
I also have low blood sugar and I've found what works best for me is this:
10:30-11:00 am - small crackers & cheese (100 calories)
12:30 am - banana
2:00 pm - light lunch
3:30 pm - yogurt
4:45 pm - fruit
6:00 pm - 100 grams of cottage cheese, cucumber & radish slices (mixed into the cottage cheese) and sometimes also a few whole grain rye crackers with margarine
7:30-8:00 pm - dinner
9:30 pm - first snack
11:00 pm - second snack
1 am - off to bed! Which I really should be doing now since it is 1:24 am. Oops!
Machka in Oz
Wow, that is a long day! Husband and I are in bed by 9 pm!
