@Bex953172 Lol! I remember that after YOU went and bought a Dr. Pepper, I ended up getting one too! Ha!!
@cschmitz110515 Chili Johns!! YUM! I was thinking about ordering it to-go last night but wasnโt sure if you could get it takeout!
Now Iโm craving chili johns chili and a Dr. Pepper! Lol!
@Snowflake1968 We have about 30 people at our house on Christmas Eve. So much of the baked goods get eaten then. The rest stay in freezer and I either bring to work or divvy up and send with kids or Timโs brothers. Often we have baked goods in freezer until April but this year I donโt want it around. We also have a Christmas cookie exchange at work so I do that too. ๐

Before even reading this book today, a while back I watched doctors on TV say that the chemicals in sodas eat away at your bones. Needless to say, I felt this was important because soda is the first thing she brings up in the first chapter of this book. It made me pay attention and I began to think, what if letting go of this vice and letting go of putting sugar in my coffee would be the very thing to get me over that proverbial hurdle that's kept me from that number I've been trying to reach?!๐ฑ๐จ What if paying even closer attention to the hidden sugars that keep me addicted are eliminated from my eating habits..what type

LOL Oh I love reading your posts! I have the same problem with run on sentences so your style of writing makes perfect sense to me! Love your response "I told it to run on until it got somewhere"
Sugar - I tried to limit sugar the first time I lost weight and I truly believed it helped me lose 10-15 pounds in the first couple of months.
I used to drink 4 Large Double Double coffees a day. 30 grams of sugar, 30 grams of carbs, 14 grams of fat! That was all usually before lunchtime, although sometimes I would have a 5th one in the afternoon. Then in the afternoon and evening I drank very close to 2L of Coke almost daily! Water never passed my lips!
I now have 1 medium coffee double cream a day. - Still 12 grams of fat, only 4 carbs and 0 Sugars though. I refuse to buy coke and have it in the house 95% of the time. If it's there I will drink it. I still drink a couple a week though usually. I get Happy Meals for my lunch a lot with apple slices and a child's coke.
How did I do it? It was tough I'm not gonna lie! I cut down to 3 coffees a day, for a while I did it with 2 creams one sugar. Then I cut it down to 2. Eventually I got it down to 1 large double cream coffee a day. I kept up with that for about two years. This time when I started losing weight I was trying to save calories so started with the medium coffee. I very rarely have a double double now, this is usually a treat for myself when I can afford the calories and let me tell you I like it more than a piece of chocolate! But it's a treat only. I had one yesterday, but the one before that was back in June!
As for the cokes, I just don't buy it! I have found something about myself though, that probably goes along with what you read in the book. If I go three or four days without having one, I don't want it. I don't think about it, it's just done! If I have one though, I want more of it! Everyday 2-3 times a day! I find it so much easier just not to succumb to that first one.
Potato Chips are the same for me, I can't have them in the house if I do I eat them. Hence over 1100 calories in the red yesterday! If I really really have a craving for them, I make myself have to leave the house to get them. Because I had them yesterday I am craving them bad again today, but am fighting it!
Good luck to you, you can do it! Get your stubborn on!

In the past, I found that if I quit drinking coke or Dr. Pepper, I would have a headache the first two or three days. I think it was my body having to cope without the caffeine, sugar, etc. But then after that, I was fine. I rarely drink pop nowadays (since I started this life change journey in January). What I do drink is LaCroix. I like the fizziness and the sound of the pop top as I open it, lol! Anyway, if you do decide to cut back just know you might have a headache or other issues for a couple days
you did not just mention Dr. P!
LOL do you remember what happen last time! A Dr Pepper infectious craving spread over the thread and it ended with me buying one lol!!
My son has to store it in his room when I visit him in TX, lol! I can't have DP around...I can't trust it. About the time I'm thinking, "I don't even want a DP" I begin hearing a whispered, "Drink me!" lolol Especially with pizza. or those peanutbutter cheese cracker thingys! MMMMM....4 -
I have slipped past my mark for 10p.m. bedtime... Lolโฆ. Old habits..."die already" why don't ya!! Sorry ladies.. Had to get in my own face about discipline. Something I am working on.
Ok... So I'm hoping everyone made it through the day victorious. I finished off yesterday's list today and found my diet soup recipe. It's a veggie soup that... How can I put it.โฆuhmm... It "works". Lolโฆ. I'm gonna round up the ingredients and make two batches and freeze in single serve containers. The instructions says you can eat as much as you want. But we all know moderation is the way to go.
I'm ecstatic now because I can bend over and touch my ankles while in the shower now. I used to have to shower then get out, dry off, fix a soak tub, get on my bed and wash my feet. Now, I get to not only see my feet, but bend over and touch them... HOT DIGGETY DOG!!!๐๐๐๐๐
I'M SOOOO HAPPY.. Love you my Sisters. Hugs for all and extra for @Faebert @Bex, @mytime66305 -
I am in for the weekly weigh-in! I weigh in on Sundays, but I think starting to post again will help. Here are my stats:

@sarah74_vt Look at all those smileys! Awesome!
@PackerFanInGB I love your NSV goals! I need to come up with some for the end of the year. I might just steal some of yours...
@maryrobinson40 Those are some scary stats from your book! I read "Salt Sugar Fat" by Michael Moss and it is also very eye opening! How much toxic junk we put in our bodies-yikes!

After getting back from my trip I didn't set any goals but made progress. I lost a pound each day (2). I think the week of more exercise and eating at maintenance (not planned just happened) on the cruise gave my body a rest from deficit calories so that when I got back to my normal eating (making my calorie goal) I started to lose. Now I am back at work again and today had an unusually high calorie day for me. So tomorrow I need to settle down to my grove.
JFT
1. up water intake
2. stay under my calorie goal
3. I'd like to go to aquafit but my husband is sick so not sure we will go
4. we have healthy left overs so dinner should be good.
I should put in getting good night sleep but doubt that will happen. I got a lot of books on my kindle before I went on the cruise but read only my usual amount so I now have a lot of books to read and the one I am reading now is tempting me to stay awake longer now.
Challenge until the end of the year:
Restarting weight (after new scale) 8/29: 266.2
Interim goal weight: 199
Ultimate goal weight: 150
Goal by January, 2019: under 250
Low before Cruise 9/18: 261.6
Before Cruise: 262.2
After Cruise 10/7: 262.8
Current weight 259.87 -
JFT, Tues, Oct 9
1. log all food
2. concentrate on 8+ glasses of water
3. Have ONE diet pepsi in the morning (that is how I get my caffeine), then no more until I drink 8+ glasses of water. Stealing this idea from @sarah74_vt! Will try this again tomorrow -- I think I must be addicted to diet pepsi! LOL
4. 5+ veggies
5. help hubby ship
6. help with PC boards
7. work on chemo hats!!! Trying to get 5 finished to send to my cousin, and also get more made for the cancer center
8. start on new quilt for my cousin with cancer. I bought some pretty fabric ... pinks and greens. Should be very cheerful!
Really busy day today, and for some reason I was just down in the dumps. I think it started at the gym --- so much political talk. I hate when people talk politics, and think everyone should have the same views. I think it bothered me because I was really tired, but it just started my day wrong.
Then our daughter crys whenever she comes out, sits and just stares... she is trying to work too many hours and has awful anxiety, showing signs of getting worse again --- so today I called her psychiatriast. Our daughter refuses to sign any consent for us to talk to the doctor, so this makes it very hard ... so I cannot "talk" to her doctor, only tell her doctor what we observe. SO the receptionist calls us back, and wants us to come in with our daughter for her next appt ... because our daughter has been telling the doctor a completely different story. Well... our daughter refused to have us go with her, got upset that we were butting in again. So that also ruined my day. But .... I did NOT eat like I do so many times. Instead.... I worked in the yard! I got the halloween decorations put up for grandsons, got the grass mowed before it gets cold... but then, hubby and I sat out on our patio drinking margaritas!! Well.... I didn't eat!! LOL!! BUt I know the margaritas have calories ... but we had a nice time, and were able to forget the helpless feeling we have many times with our daughter. But tonite, our daughter came out, agreed to let me go with her to the doctors appt (this was after her doctor called her, and told her she wants me there!). So we had a nice long talk with our daughter, trying to get her to understand when someone has mental illness, and they have no insight, they need to rely on others to observe how they are doing and convey this to her doctor.
Anyhow ... sorry for the long story!
JFT, Wed
1. log all food
2. October challenge -- go out for a 1 mile walk!
3. work on PC boards
4. work on chemo hats ---- I have 8 hats almost finished, and ready to send to my cousin.
5. get started on cutting out the quilt for my cousin
6. work on grocery list for when son and grandsons come on saturday
October CHALLENGE = 1 mile walk
1. N/A
2. N/A
3. -- unless walking in the mall counts!
4.
5. But since I worked all day cleaning, hoping that will count??
6.
7.
8. -- but just 1 mile, but I got it in!
9.6 -
Thanks to all that will join me in the weekly weigh-ins!! I plan to weigh on Mondays (only because I seem to forget to weigh myself on the weekends, and my thinking was if I have to weigh on monday, maybe I'll be more careful of what I eat over the weekends! But I am so happy to have you guys join me. This time of year, I think the accountability will help us all!
@Bex953172 --- Casey is crawling already!! How did that happen!! Oh yea, I guess she is what 7 months old???? Your weight is going to start dropping like crazy .... you will get SO much exercise LOL!!!! No more sitting down for you!
@HEGoddard0928 - great job at the gym!!
@PackerFanInGB - wow, you are doing great on the October Challenge!! All those happy faces!! You are so lucky to have so many people at your house at Christmas!! I absolutely LOVE to bake around the holidays, but our family is so small, I am the one usually eating the stuff. Hubby gets upset if I even make one batch of decorated sugar cookies! When my siblings were all alive, I used to spend weeks making candy and cookies, and would have the dining room table full of about 15 boxes that I would divide the goodies in. That way I could have a variety for us, but only a few pieces of each kind. I don't have anyone to send stuff to now, so I usually only bake the sugar cookies for our son and grandsons (and some for us -- which I usually am the only one that eats them!).. But, that is my favorite thing to do ... is to bake goodies! I guess I need to find people to give them to!
@Snowflake1968 - you have made great progress this year!
@maryrobinson40 - great article about the sugar! I have never been one to drink regular soda, but, I know I drink way too much diet soda! My biggest downfall is ice cream ... also loaded with sugar! I remember last year when I stopped eating sugar, how much better I felt, how I was able to lose weight, and how the cravings went away. Something I need to really work on.
And .... I love all your posts!! You are always so upbeat --- I am so happy you found this thread, and continue to encourage us all, make us laugh, and just be you!
@Faebert - hope you are feeling better!
@sdudley08 - welcome!

@mytime6630 well not quite crawling but trying too.
She's doing that thing where when they lie on their front, knees tucked in and they just kinda bounce back and forth.
So she's strengthening her legs to get that forward push!
Forgot to say the other day though when I posted that, that she fell asleep 5 minutes after lol! Tired herself out. I was sat there thinking "Ha!"2 -

@mytime6630 Prayers and hugs to you and your daughter. I can't imagine what that feels like, but I get how stressful that is for you. Hopefully, by you going with your daughter, that can make difference.
For my morning caffeine, I drink one diet mountain dew or, in warm months, iced tea unsweet. Then it's water the rest of the day (usually). I'm not a regular coffee drinker. Works for me!
Oh, and of course, I'm in for posting my Sat. weekly weigh-in. I think that's what kick-started my real weight loss last year, after I started posting and making my weight public. Good luck to all!3 -

Recap T 10/9 ~ over 2" rain in gauge since Sunday

@PackerFanInGB - That is awesome to have 30 people in your house on Christmas Eve. My Dad's family was large and a lot of his siblings had 5 or more children. I was always so envious of the large families. I always wanted 4 children, I thought that was a good number. We stopped at 2 because we figured out how expensive they are. LOL
@maryrobinson40 - Woohoo Touching your ankles! That is awesome! I see "ads" all the time saying corn isn't good for you. I eat it at least a couple times a week still. My husband has gotten very fussy in his older years and that's about the only cooked vegetable he likes.
@jeschepp - You have done amazing this year with your loss! We started out very close to the same size, but I seem to have stalled around the 180's. I am hoping to get it kick started again this month.
@KeriA - That was good losing while on a trip
@mytime6630 - I can't imagine how helpless you must feel about your daughter. It's good that her doctor wants to see you as well though and that you are going. I hate political discussions. I was brought up that you didn't talk about Religion, Politics or Money in public. I wish we could go back to that. My daughter and her fiance, take baked goods to local Fire Stations and Police Stations on Christmas Day. It is their way of thanking the men and women for being there for us. My future son in law, is an EMT and just last week applied to school to be a paramedic. If he gets in he is looking at going into the Fire Department as a paramedic.

5 Fruits and Veggies
Walk 1 Mile
Move Hourly at Work
Paint Snowmen Faces and dress them
Stay Focused!!!!
Yesterday was a much better day food wise. I kept things in control and even forced myself to do the one mile in the evening because I didn't get it done through the day.
Tonight the Grands come to visit and I need to figure out what to have for supper. I like quick and easy on Wednesday nights because we only have a couple hours with them.
@maryrobinson40 - I think the last thing that made me burst out in laughter was actually my Grandson. I didn't laugh at the time because it would have been rude to him and hurt his feelings, but last week when he told me about his conscience being a cricket has given me a lot of laughs! I love his little mind and he makes me laugh almost every time I see him!4 -
Just discovered this thread. LOVE the idea of focusing one day at a time. I am creating my own JFT journal. Thank you for the inspiration.

Simply drinking one soda per day is worth fifteen and a half pounds of fat gain per year.
Americans are currently consuming at least sixty-three pounds per person of
high-fructose corn syrup per year." Dr. Robert Lustig. Book by EVE O. SCHAUB
Before even reading this book today, a while back I watched doctors on TV say that the chemicals in sodas eat away at your bones. Needless to say, I felt this was important because soda is the first thing she brings up in the first chapter of this book. It made me pay attention and I began to think, what if letting go of this vice and letting go of putting sugar in my coffee would be the very thing to get me over that proverbial hurdle that's kept me from that number I've been trying to reach?!๐ฑ๐จ What if paying even closer attention to the hidden sugars that keep me addicted are eliminated from my eating habits..what type
results would I achieve along with all this other healthy, active stuff?...hmmm.
I'm going to ween myself off and see what happens. I always go on a diet, But I've never been in a lifestyle, way of living setting like this. I feel when I log in here, I'm "HOME", type setting and I'm with family. I come here more now than I do Facebook. I got a lot of names on my friend's list, but only constantly communicate with a hand full... You all have embraced my heart since the beginning. I truly love it here. And I get to tell my corny jokes and I think some of you actually laugh, or at least chuckle.
Now I'm rambling, done went and got myself all off subject. Teacher would have all kinds of correction marks across this post.
Lmbo!! Mary, stop using the run-on sentences.. Then I'd say, but Teacher, you said the last part of this post stopped going anywhere... So, I told it to run on until it got somewhere.๐๐๐๐
Hi Mary!
I have cut most sugar out of my diet for 3 weeks now...no red licorice, cookies, granola bars, ice cream... I also have cut out dairy because I suspected it was causing my headaches and sinus problems. I've noticed that I have been breathing easier and have not woke up with a headache for two weeks, so that seems to be working in my favor, although I really miss cheese! The sugar and soda thing was really hard at first, but now I don't even crave it. I gave up soda a few years ago actually (both regular and diet soda). I occasionally get thirsty for one but when I get it I usually only want a few sips and then toss it! I have not been able to drink black coffee yet...I use the powdered sugar-free caramel vanilla creamer. I know I need to work on weaning off that, but it's just my most favorite thing that I look forward to in the morning! I've used the French Vanilla Stevia liquid drops in my coffee in the past and those aren't too bad, so maybe I'll have to try those so I at least still get my flavored coffee without the artificial crap!
Thanks for your post! It really got me thinking about what things I still need to tweak!
PS I come here before Facebook now too! Much less negativity on MFP than there is on FB! Love to you, and have a great day!4 -
@cschmitz110515 HAPPY BIRTHDAY my friend!!! Enjoy your very own personal holiday!
@mytime6630 I wish I had words of wisdom regarding your struggle with your daughter. It's an ongoing battle I know and it's a heartbreaking and emotionally exhausting one also. I'm so glad the doctor is asking for you to be present and that your daughter is allowing it. You may be able to shed some light for the doctor to reevaluate her treatment now that she knows there is more to the story than she was hearing. I'm sending you hugs and sending up prayers for you, your husband and your daughter.3 -

Really not feeling too great today. Not sure if it is menopausal joy causing me to have hot and cold sweats or if I'm coming down with something. Yesterday I felt kind of punky too...laid down on the couch for a few hours and watched TV. I hate when I do that because I have so much I wanted to get done.
So, today I'm going to push through. First up is grocery shopping and I'll see where it goes from there. It's rainy and crappy here so I don't know about getting a walk in with Maddie. I might have to just put on a hat and boots and just get wet!

@PackerFaninGB Wow! You are doing some life-changing moves...go! go! go! And you must be encouraged as you are seeing results. My journey is just not about losing weight but about getting healthy, spiritually, mentally, and physically. So good to see that what you are doing is making a difference---it's encouraging to me as I have recently been convicted to cut down on salt. I love salt!!! But I am making a concerted effort to use less in my cooking...oh my word, after using tons of garlic, onions, and seasoning, my meals still taste bland! I keep hearing that my taste buds have to get used to not having as much salt so I'll give it a few weeks. I'm also going to try to add lemon or vinegar when the flavors need to be enhanced...read that in an article. Anyway, enjoy that new healthier you!!!3

You have been a source of strength and encouragement over this past year as I was able to follow in your foot steps. You have done a great job on your journey, consistently walking, posting your JFT's, encouraging others, and being real. You are such an asset to this group.

I made it through my big day today and thank goodness because I am officially sick with bronchitis. Have been prescribed antibiotics and an inhaler. The cough is terrible but now my whole body is aching. I will go into work tomorrow just to pick up some stuff so I can plan from home and rest as much as I can. Counting down the time until the kids go to bed so I can go too!
BUT the good news is I got an outstanding grading for my lesson. The assistant head loved it so much she went to get the Head and Deputy to come and watch. A big relief for me, and a bit of motivation now to kick *kitten* in next weekโs class assembly event.
Wednesday goals recap
- workout if well enough โ definitely not
- get in early and check resources โ
- Speak to buddy teacher โ
- Observation - stay positive and keep an eye on timings โ
- Call doc at 1 if needed โ very definitely!
- Leave by 5 โ
- Relax โ (need my bed though!!
Thursday goals
- Drive to work and pick up planning materials
- Postpone chat with Head
- Check Oct 29th date with assistant
- Work from home/rest
- Go into work for afternoon only if well enough
Night all. Hoping meds kick in soon and I can get back to me! X5 -
