Me too! It's my birthday month so AF is not realistic. Then again there's always a good reason to have a nice glass of wine!6 -
Pretty good, I crave the clarity of mind and my tea and my time back to me.....its like, dare I say, I have become addicted to not drinking?
@NormInv I love the idea of being "addicted" to not drinking. Nice phrase and it made me think. What a great way to look at it. I never thought I would say I love tea, but I'm getting to that point. Tea and diet ginger ale have made a huge difference in leaving my daily wine habit behind.
Had two glasses of wine last night, a night I'm "scheduled" to drink. Again, eh. I know I keep saying that, so the question is why don't I just quit altogether? Just not sure how to answer that right now. I guess there's still this mystique attached to it, the idea that I love wine and I'll miss it too much if I give it up. But my recent experiences have been so meh with it. I keep wondering why I'm still drinking. Also I had trouble sleeping and woke up with a headache. Doesn't take much wine to get those headaches going these days!

Beat back a craving last night, I was ready to get in the car and head to the store. I went to bed instead.14

Good job! Weekends are tougher....need to plan ahead activities like gym, sauna, run to avoid alcohol....I am planning my evening ahead of time12 -
We are more than half way through February, and I would love to see this thread to keep going. You all have been so inspirational to me, I come here often and read all or your comments, stories... I can't speak for the group, but for me this has been a great place to come. Since finding this group on Monday, I feel I can stay AF for as long as I choose to. I hope that this will continue for many months to come, maybe the all of 2018!11

Ugh they are predicting a snowstorm and I'd love to just sit on the couch and have a bottle of wine.8

that's how I felt today, it was dark and gloomy and a little rainy. I did some yard work (which I HATE, really wanted a reward for that!), and some inside organizing, read some blogs, and planned my meals for the week so I don't have to guess later on.
Now I'm too tired to go out, so maybe I'll try some tea.
Do you have a plan for tonight? Netflix, movie, book? Sometimes I can get caught up in online games, mahjong is a favorite. No signing up or logging in.

Eek. First post here... I know that knocking the nightly beers on the head is the thing.5

I just really like wine and whisky, don't really need any triggers, or maybe just everyday life is the trigger.
My life is better with alcohol, just not so much as I had grown into drinking.
Have no interest in going AF, just want to be under control within a healthy and fit range. And, thanks to MFP that seems to be happening.
Stay tuned! Down 40 pounds so far, and much more active.13 -
I’ll give it a try! I have been a social boozer since college, but counting calories does bring an awareness.6

Welcome! My goal is to cut back on beer too. Trying to keep it down to 6 a night. Did about 50% in January, but not quite there for February yet. Its a process. You will find a lot of insight and support on this thread.4 -
@angelacatheart Not only on tv shows but every other song on the radio. And try buying a birthday card for someone that doesn't make a reference to alcohol. Once I started noticing these things I am seeing them everywhere.7

The list is endless. Shirts, kitchen towel sets, glass ware, pillows, novelty plaques.....and on and on.
My kitchen used to look like a bar room no thanks to my husbands Mother who would incorporate a drinking theme in every gift she bought him. A few years back I decided to make over my kitchen and "de-toxic" it. I reclaimed an entire 2 shelf cupboard that was a make shift bar. UGH.
Makes a better impression now when I have people over.4 -
Two years ago, my friends threw me a birthday party. There were about 8 teacher friends there; we all hung out and drank in my friend's basement. So, it was time for presents. Wouldn't you know it, most of my gifts were wine bottles? At least five wine bottles and birthday cards with wine as the theme or drinking theme. I was a little embarrassed, because I knew that that is what I was being known for. A drinking, wine, party friend!
Made me think of it when you spoke about tons of references to alcohol.
Last night, we went out to mexican restaurant. Everyone had margaritas. I treated myself to a Coke which I never do. Times have changed and so have I. Xo18 -
good job on skipping the margaritas!
I had a craving Friday night, which I ignored, and now it seems like the further away I get from my last glass of wine, the better I feel, and the less I want it. I don't keep anything in the house, but I used to always give in and go to the store. Breaking this bad habit!5 -
How's everybody's weekend going? Yesterday, I had one glass of wine with my husband for happy hour at our favorite neighborhood place. I enjoyed it but was done for the night and felt good about it. Before Jan. 1 I would've come home and had three more glasses, along with lots of evil snacky things, in front of the tv. Maybe I'm getting a grip on things?12
-
Embarrassed to admit, but on the other hand glad I have a place to tell (on myself). Got into the TQ a bit last night, 2 shots (lucky for me that was all that was left in the bottle, and wasn't going to get into my husbands stash.
Then we (I) opened a bottle of Merlot, we each had a glass, and I put the cork on it and put it away. This really put me over my calorie goal for the day! But lucky for me it stopped there, and I also resisted mindless snacking.
Was 5 days AF... now starting back at -0-. I will not drink today... my mantra for the next couple of months at least.9 -
I arrived a week early for the lunch that I thought was yesterday. LOL Walked around Charming Charlie's and was amazed at how many items have a reference to alcohol. As someone else mentioned, it's everywhere.3

It’s funny my parents and their friends growing up never drank alcohol - but they had so much fun. Game nights and family bbqs and sports, camping and picnics. They would stay out late totally booze free. It’s too bad that drinking is so synonymous with “fun” but it doesn’t have to be. I want to make my life more “fun” like it was growing up. However because there was no wine beer or liquor in the house it was like this forbidden fruit. I want my kids to see it as something to be enjoyed lightly and infrequently.11

This is how my parents and their friends and us kids grew up to. I am not sure when it all turned in the other direction to where the main question was not what are we going to do for fun, but to, how much booze is there going to be? Makes me sad.4 -
Saturday night I went to an event --- an art show/memorial/party for an artist friend. It was nice that they did provide an AF punch --- along with plenty of wine! I did have a sip (and I do mean a thimbleful) to taste .... something called Sir Perry Pear Cider. So I still count it as an AF day. Although there were many people there who were drinking, and I'd shared plenty of wine with them before ... no one really questioned or challenged my choice. I did eat too many treats, though
I didn't really notice people drinking on TV -- But I sure did previous times when I tried to go AF for a bit, and I did identify the feeling of wanting a glass of wine stemming from that. This time it really hasn't bothered me though, and I'm pretty happy without.4
