I'm 46 and have gained 30 lbs as a result of not exercising and binge stress eating while caring for my mom during her fight with cancer. Unfortunately, she lost her fight last November, and left my father, who is severely disabled, alone and relying on me and my brother for care. I also work full time and live in a different town.
Now I'm trying to get back on track. It's a constant struggle and exercise in willpower and decision making. Every day, every hour, I have to focus on what is the best food choice and figure out how I'm going to squeeze in some activity to get my heart rate up. It's exhausting.12 -
Hey everyone! We don’t have a private group (that I’m aware of!) but just chat here. I’ll send friend requests to you all though welcome!!8

Well I stuck to some goals - one piece of bread at a time! Cycling! I havent yet done my yoga but will. I did have some dairy (cream in coffee). I unfortunately ate a whole bag of bhuja snacks. And only because I am alone. Never mind, new day tomorrow! Lots of love to all x4

Hello ladies. I’ve been here before a few years back, achieved my goal and ‘sat on the laurels’. Managed to keep my ideal weight for about two years and slipped back (+10lb) over the last 2 years.
My goal is to swap some old habits for new ones.
1 watch my favourite shows while walking on the treadmill not sitting on the couch (5x pw)
2. Do 10 min of yoga every morning.
3. Replace some foods I eat with Whole30complient foods on daily basis eg. Use sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes, use coconut milk in my coffee instead of dairy milk, make cauliflower rice instead of regular rice etc.
4. Drink 8 glasses of water a day.
I think that’s a manageable start
Feel free to friend me if you’d like a few extra motivational 👍 on your daily progress.
Have a great Monday everyone!6 -

I’m so sorry for your loss 💓 Getting back on track can be challenging while caring for loved ones, but taking control of small aspects can get you off to a good start!

I have been traveling the last 3 weekends with kid activities; it’s slowed down my step counts and was a direct cause of some bad food choices. I did LOG my bad meals to stay accountable, but I certainly did not want to!2

I am 46 and I have been trying to loose 40 pounds. Need help3

@winodini thsmk you for your encouragement to everyone. Wow yes I know how badly family commitments can effect our helpful habits. When I was traveling with mine I made sure I had lots of fruit and some nuts . As they tucked into bbq meat and bread I was sitting there with my broccoli and hummus to fill up on ! However my family are all.adults now and it's very different when you have little ones. Tiredness from travel and looking after everyone doesn't help either.
I hope you can get back into your helpful routines now?
@nuriav1 welcome. You can post your goals here for accountability if you like and ask for specific help if you need it. The best first start is to track, and get enough sleep. Is there anything in particular you struggle with?
I post my goals here morning and night. It helps keep them in mind. And I started very small goals such as only having one piece of bread instead of two. Then I'm adding from.there. go well2 -
Goals today : Heaps of veggies (cook it!), one bread not two, no dairy goal, walk and do yoga or gym. 8 hours in bed.
Sleep is extremely important for weight / fat loss. I'm not sure everyone realises how important.
Also I found it impossible to move away from a bloated body when I had an undiagnosed hormone condition. So I just want to let people know who are really not losing despite doing everything right (food move hydrate sleep ) that maybe there is something else going on and it's not your fault and don't give up !!
If you do have a medical condition then it's better to eat healthy than not. Throwing in the towel in frustration only leads to more gain and feeling worse. Keep your healthy habits even if you seem to be getting nowhere x2 -
Hi I am 46 have lost over a stone but seem to have hit a brick wall feel free to add2

Looking for motivation and support from others who are wanting support. Feel free to add me !1

Hey everyone!
@wearefab I always kind of enjoy your daily check in’s
I’m feeling pretty good. Had an off week last week but still lost and I have been back on track yesterday and today. This is the longest I’ve lasted with trying to lose weight in forever! Keeping up with the app and checking in here really helps.
How’s everyone’s week going?5 -
Yesterday was better...made a big salad for lunch to take to work and some low cal snacks. I was surprised to learn that the salad filled me up more than my usual wraps do and I was less hungry after work. After work is my absolute worst time for making bad food choices. Have a good day everyone!3

After work is the worst, completely agree!2 -
I just turned 40 this month, and am determined to get myself back in a healthy state, mentally and physically. As a former bikini competitor, the 30+ lbs I have gained over the last 4 years has left me in quite the funk.
I am okay with what the number on the scale says, I really am, but the loss of strength and endurance has just about sent me over the edge a couple times.
I have renewed my gym membership, started to take an active approach to what I eat, and am also doing yoga once a week and pole fitness as well. The pole fitness is where I really noticed my lack of strength. It depressed me.
I am looking forward to watching this thread! Have a great day everyone!1 -
Today is one of those days I am bored of thinking about food. I am bored of the taste of morealess everything I eat. I am bored of feeling too full. I am bored of feeling delighted with myself for eating 'good ' . Today I would just like to have a nice day , have a nice walk , see some nice people and generally appreciate all that I have without a layer of food thought.
I know I look after myself well so there is no reason to think too much about it today
See how it feels later!!
Go well everyone x2 -
Give yourself a mental break if you need one! We all do every now and then!
And I second and third those of you who say after work is the worst! That’s when I’m most likely to want a snack.. or 3! I’ve been trying to put what I know I’ll be eating for lunch and dinner into the app in the morning so that when I get home I know exactly what kind of leeway I have for snacking but the struggle is real!!2 -
Hi all...im 45 and let me tell you..every year and it gets harder and harder to lose for me. Its like i eat practically a tic tac a day and boom 15lbs. I swear the hormones we deal with before the change, thats what is doing it..not fair lol i will and am continuing to fight on..day 6 of low carb...50lbs, first goal target by july 13

Hope everyone is feeling good.
I chose not to track today and might not tomorrow. Been.pretty sick with headache and body pains and dizzy weak!
Probably could have done with fasting to help the body heal bit eventually hunger had me making a salad with salted nuts, fish and rice followed by Apple. Way too much food actually.
Did walking and a restorative yoga pose.
Hoping to sleep it off and feel great tomorrow
Setting the alarm for a 6am coffee and bike ride 😀
Go well everyone x1 -

Hi all. 48 year old here from UK so just about in the 40s age group 🙈 struggling to find motivation so need all the butt kicking everyone can muster please 🙂4

Hi everyone, I’m 45 and have been struggling the past 2- years to keep my weight off. I have gained 15 pounds since last summer . I really would love to loose before this summer. Please add me and any tips out there please feel free to share with me . I would love to know them .4
-
You all are already inspiring me to be better at this :-) I am 42 and I have about 30 pounds to loose. I’ve had a lot of difficulty losing and have tried a lot of different diets. I have heard that women our age need to lift more weights. I have been trying to do this. I think some of my extremely slow weight loss may be due to muscle building. How have some of you done with this approach?3
-
Thanks for the thread.
I am 48 and in the UK, I lost 19kg (41lb) a couple of years ago, but it's creeping back on, so I need to knuckle down and stay in deficit for a bit.
It would be great to have some more friends who are active now, most of the ones I had before have gone really quiet! I have a open diary.4 -

Hi yes there is a thing called Sarcopenia which everyone gets - muscle loss as we age. Muscle burns energy so the less we have on the body, the less energy we burn! Also lifting weight does great things for feelings of wellbeing, confidence, bone density, and brain function! So its really worth it!
Dont be put off by 'lift heavy'. Getting to do weight 45minuts 3 times a week at a moderate load is a great start - or do you lift already?
I actually think the keys to a healthy weight at our age are:
1 - get enough sleep at normal hours eg try to be in bed by ten
2 - get rid of everything you possibly can that causes unwanted stress
3 - work on your own psychology so that stress brushes off
4 - Learn how to breathe correctly and deeply (does wonders for stress reduction)
5 - hydrate
Stress hormones will effect the nervous system, brain function, sleep, hormonal and neurotransmitter status, and has a knock on effect on appetite and general coping in life. By our age, stress cumulates and most people have a thyroid or estrogen or insulin or pain problem (most unknown!)
OH YOUR Q! Yes muscle can definitely make it look like (on the scale) you are not losing weight. The onky way to know is to get a bodyscan once a month (measures bone, water, muscle, fat), or get someone to measure your body fat in the best way they can.
Sometimes doing too much can halt weight loss eg calorie deficit and training hard. The body thinks its under a survival situation and slows metablism. So be realistic about what you are doing, could you be pushing too hard? What happens if you go easy for a week, get enough sleep and avoid stress?
Go well everyone! I havent tracked today but had a lovely stress free day (ish!) and ate veg and salmon and nuts and fruits and lots of coffee and friends! Gym and walk too.
x
