If you drink more water than your body can handle then you can actually drown. Did you know that before you started telling people to drink a gallon of water?

Before starting 5:2 I hardly drank any water, I'd drink coffee mainly. I lost a huge amount of weight. There goes that theory.

    Doesn't drowning involve inhaling water?

    http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=strange-but-true-drinking-too-much-water-can-kill

What does this have to do with drowning?

Ummm it shows you HOW you can drown by drinking so much. THAT is what it has to do with it.

Yes, coffee is a diuretic. I guess everyone should just load up on caffeine now....

Not really - not much more than water.

    Whatever you say m'lady.

    Nah, not me...science.

The person in the article didn't drown, they died from 'water intoxication' -- it's not the same as drowning.

What I've gathered from this thread is there are two types of people.

Those who have the butthurt, and those who have lemon-fresh fat cells!

I actually got water intoxication (hyponatremia) once, as the result of a really stupid bet to drink one of those 5 gallon jugs. It was extremely unpleasant and I was really sick for days. Not recommended.

Links? Please. I'd love to hear how caffeine is "not really" a diuretic compared to water. We should just be friends already since you seem to like to comment in disagreement or sarcasm on anything I post in this section.

Oh, and to actually contribute to the threat, drinking too much water is pretty bad for you.
Although, the amount equaling "too much" can vary from person to person...
I was about 7 years old and it didn't take much, but I ended up in the hospital from overhydration.

I have no idea what you are talking about - I can only recall interacting with you once, where you were snarky there also. I just corrected your incorrect statement, that is all.

    Anyway...here you go...

Incredibly mature. You claim not to recall anything but remember that I was "snarky". I'm far from that and don't appreciate the name calling - I just want to know why out of all the posts here, you consistently decide to nitpick mine when the disagreement is so bloody minor. Is your life that boring? I didn't make my original statement as advice to anyone here that drinking coffee will make you lose weight but as a general statement - many individuals in the medical and scientific field have labelled caffeine as a diuretic, whether they consider it huge or very little is not really what the first post was about.

Caffeine is considered a diuretic and that's really the point I'm making here.. the only person commenting on its effectiveness is you - I'm not saying it is going to make anyone lose weight but it certainly makes you piss like a racehorse and dehydrates you.. water makes you go too but water hydrates the body.

Also, you seem to forget that you were commenting on someone else's post in a less than pleasant and very sarcastic manner but decide to get very very irritated when I correct you. You asked for sources, I gave them to you.

Actually, if you read through the studies you'll see that it has been found that it does not, in fact, dehydrate you when drunk in moderation. It's one of those myths that just won't die. I've been hearing it since I was a child, but it's just not been found to be true.

Wow this post is incredibly ironic.

And no, caffeine (in the amounts that almost every human being consumes) doesn't dehydrate you. And it's laughable that you think someone is following you around just to correct you. Especially since Sara was posting in this thread before you were. Wouldn't that be you following her?
