I really need to figure out if I can do a HM in September, maybe instead of the 18.12 Challenge or in addition to it. The 18.12 is, as implied, a little over 18 miles so it would be a good practice for me to have a longer distance. But not sure if I should have a "prep" race a little closer to marathon time?

I would strongly suggest you run the 18-mile race. The step from the half to the full marathon is not to be underestimated. Ideally, you would get a couple runs in the 20 mile range, on tired legs with low glucose storage, in before your first full.

Congratulations @7lenny7 ! On edge waiting for that race report! (No rush, I'm off to bed).

@midwesterner85 Hang in there. I know you'll get back on track. I know it's easy for me to say since I'm happy any day I can put one foot in front of the other... you have some exceptional circumstances with BG issues.

I admire each of your runs no matter how short they are. It takes some determination to do what you do. I'm rooting for you. You inspre me. Don't ever give up.

(rooting is an odd word- does that mean I'm a pig of some sorts, snorts, snouts?)

SO hot today. Around 28C (82F), which I know is a lot cooler than some of you get, but understand I live in Canada, and fairly far north at that! I do not deal with the heat very well and neither do my kids. I didn't get out to run until after sunset (tried for an AM run but my eyes wouldn't open, and then my youngest had trouble falling asleep due to the heat because A/C is not a thing here).

It was a really nice run, though. Stiff and ugh for the first 2 km and then it was great. I did a shorter run than planned because I got out so late but I will run longer on Thursday to make up for it. Tomorrow is supposed to be speedwork and I will pop by the gym to do that indoors because i don't have time to wait for it to cool off tomorrow night.

Probably won't make goal this month but that's fine. My goals are always just a kind of wild guess anyway.

I struggled a bit on my run today. My legs were stiff (too much airplane sitting?) and my left achilles was bothering me. I also decided today that I can't run in my new(er) Skora Forms. They just don't have enough cushion.

Very busy few days at school. Graduation and now trying to finish up tons of stuff, I missed a ton of messages here and I didn't even update my runs on my own Notes app that I use to track them. Had to look at Strava to see what I did.
We've had days and days of rain here in Orlando ... so hopefully tonight no rain so I can ride in the group ride!

Reluctantly ran in the rain this morning because the after-work forecast looked worse. It was a good decision because rain ended up being really light during my run and it just poured after I got home from work. I was glad I sucked it up and didn't take a rest day.

In other good news, my group got officially into the Falmouth Road Race (7 miles) on Cape Cod on August 19th. So excited for this trip - I've never been to the cape and it sounds like a really fun race with elite runners as well as casual run for fun folks. We rented a house and have plans to order t-shirts for our team theme - we are the Pink Cheetahs :)

So I add that officially to my upcoming races:
4/22/18 Owens Corning Half Marathon, Toledo OH
5/12/18 Right to Run 19K, Seneca Falls, NY

6/3/18 Niagara Falls Women's Half Marathon
6/5/18 JP Morgan Corporate Challenge (3.5 mile), Syracuse NY
    7/8/18 Boilermaker 15K, Utica NY
8/19/18 Falmouth Road Race (7 miles), Falmouth, MA
8/26/18 18.12 Challenge, Sackets Harbor, NY??? (not yet signed up)
10/28/18 Marine Corps Marathon, Arlington VA

I really need to figure out if I can do a HM in September, maybe instead of the 18.12 Challenge or in addition to it. The 18.12 is, as implied, a little over 18 miles so it would be a good practice for me to have a longer distance. But not sure if I should have a "prep" race a little closer to marathon time?

I'm so jealous! I'd love to run Falmouth. A friend has run it a couple of times and says it's one of her favourite races. And the Cape is beautiful.

Tonight I'm going to a world record event for stargazing.

Australia is trying to get the most people ever stargazing (specifically tonight looking at the moon with telescopes or binoculars) at one time, between 8 and 9 pm tonight.

There are gatherings all over the country. Going to be so cool!

That sounds like a lot of fun!

I have found even the first episodes on my iPhone podcasts- and I’m not very techs, so if I can find it, it is easy. Also, I wonder if the podcast people are wondering why there is a sudden spike in downloads of said show.

Wanted to get an hour in this morning, so that ended up being 7 miles. Was hot and humid, but that goes without saying these days. In fact, I'm not going to say it again this summer. Just assume that until about middle of October. Other than that, felt pretty good. Had to slow myself down at times, but felt very comfortable. HR averaged only 123.

Google knows too much about me!

I ran 5m on the treadmill yesterday. I always have Google Fit running in the background. It estimated the run (based on accelerometry alone) at 4.99mi. This means they have analyzed my stride from my outdoor runs and know it very accurately.

And, I never alert the app when I'm running, walking, or riding it just figures it out. (But, it counts the elliptical as riding). I don't know about you, but I think this is a little spooky!

They just had a NYT article and just finished a tour. So they are probably getting a lot of traffic. Lol

I like that it feels I'm sitting down and talking with friends. Also they are open about their mental health issues and struggles with drugs and alcohol.

And yes I save their new episode for my long runs :D

    5/23/18 2.5 miles

    Total 55.41 miles

My average pace is down by about 2 minutes after 3 weeks. Crossing fingers and hoping I can get back to my peak performance times by the time September rolls around (official race deadline to drop down to half although I can decide day of since it's going down in distance). I need to shave off about 4 more minutes. Also hoping getting asthma meds helps me breathe and I can get some speed back that way too.

This morning I focused on fixing my form. I have a tendency to keep my head down. I twisted an ankle once on a glass on the sidewalk (it was dark so I couldn't see it from a distance) and have since always looked down. I reminded myself to run with my head up this morning. It was easy to slip back through.

I have fallen seriously behind on this thread as well. I have been popping in to try and keep up, but haven't had much time to comment and congratulate you all on your awesome achievements.

@7Lenny7- Sounds like a fabulous race. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll bet that Four Roses single barrel tasted good after that!!

@ROBOTFOOD - Welcome back. I finally made the connection for you between MFP and Strava...lol. Seriously awesome photo there. 700 ft climb in a half mile? Wow. I was complaining about the 200 ft climb in a half mile that I did on Sunday. Can't imagine!

Loved reading all of the race reports from the weekend! Congrats @kgirlhart on your AG win in your first half marathon. That's outstanding! Congrats also to @greyparks206 , @abutcher2122 , @sarahthes , @BruinsGal_91, @kristinegift , @Mobycarp and anyone else I may have missed on great races too!

@RunsOnEspresso I empathize with you, both with the asthma and the looking down while running. I can pretty much control my asthma with OTC Primatene. I run in the dark too, and have a tendency to look down after I tripped over a branch in the middle of the sidewalk last year. I have to continuously tell myself to look up and ahead, and low and behold, running feel easier every time I do that. It just takes a long time to break (and form) habits. Buy you (and me) will get there. Just have to keep at it.

@Scott6255 I used to have my asthma under control & not really need anything. I think allergies are just so bad right now too. I had advair years ago and it helped a lot so thinking that it could help again.

Overall my form isn't bad, just the head thing. And understandably for both of us. I think anyone who has tripped on something gets that feeling. Lol

    72.8/90

As planned, I have been pretty lazy about logging many miles since my marathon. Aside from being very busy trying to get our family room re-do and lots of spring yard work finished before our big Memorial Day party this weekend, I have been trying to explore some local trails. On Sunday I went to a local park that has a 2ish mile loop that I had heard about but have never run. I was short on time, so I figured maybe I could get in two loops. Well, that didn't happen. Once I got to the park, it took me a while to even find the trails since there was no signage or markings outside of the woods. Once I finally meandered into the woods, I found a nice little single track trail that led down a steep incline to a creek. Once at the bottom, it really wasn't clear where I should go. There were no clearly marked trails and it seemed like every little trail I followed led to a dead end. I finally followed another trail back up the hill, which eventually led out of the woods and back into the park. I ended up doing this same routine of running (or make that walking/climbing) up and down the hill over and over in various places. Finally, after 25 minutes and 1.4 miles of this, I ended up where I started and decided to go back to my car and check out the map I had found online. When I compared it to my map on Strava, I realized that I wasn't anywhere even on the trail. I read some of the reviews of the trails and they largely consisted of complaints about poor markings and getting lost. There were some positive comments on the scenery, which I agreed with, but my frustration over shadowed that at this point. Since I had a busy day ahead, it was starting to get very hot and I had already chewed up a good chunk of time, I decided to just call it a day. I was disappointed because this park is pretty convenient to my house. Since a lot of others have told me they run there, I might give it another shot, but I am not sure.

This evening after work I intend to head out to a nature park close to where I work. Based on the website and trail reviews, it looks a lot more promising. There are six trails ranging from 1.5-7.5 miles, with one of them connecting into a 22 mile backpacking trail. I will let you know how it goes.
