Janet OKC, I'm so glad I didn't have a mouthful of anything when I read your cartoon! I can so relate! lol
Katla, I can't believe the nerve of your neighbour pruning your camellia! Does it overhang into her yard? and if so, is that the part she's pruning? Or does she think she's doing you a favour, that she knows better than you what it needs? In any case, she really does need a hobby, in another part of town... (thanks Lanette, you said it perfectly!) Oh, and I too am somewhat stingy when it comes to spending money. Our old dishwasher actually quit working properly two years before I even considered replacing it! Then I did dishes by hand for a few months (much to our children's annoyance cause they had to help!), then I finally bit the bullet and got the new one. It was kind of worth it as I certainly appreciated it then! lol
Barbie, glad you got some weeds pulled! Every bit counts!
So, today has been a decent day, food wise, not the greatest, but within the scope of what I can live with. And I brushed my teeth shortly after dinner, so didn't wander around the kitchen looking for food that I didn't need! Even had a shower early, might actually get to bed at a reasonable hour. Hopefully I will sleep too....
Hubby had a nice surprise when I got home from work today, he has been talking about what he wants to do in the backyard and today he spent a few hours roughing it out! It looks really good! Need a few more rocks, but I know where I can get those (we had a wall of rock come down at work, a lot of it is still there and the boss is more than fine with me taking some of it away), then we need to get some gravel in to fill up the bare spots. Too shady for grass, so going with gravel and planters. Just need to figure out how to get the gravel back there, no way for a truck to get there, so will probably have to get a sling truck to do it. Could be costly.... but will be worth it (I hope!)

Lanette, thanks for asking about fasting, because somehow your question inspired me first thing this morning to fast today and I had a great day! Just had one cup of soup and one cup of homemade broth along with two or three soy hot chocolates. And I didn't fight hunger pains all day. I also had a cup of fenugreek tea, which I read was an appetite suppressant, and I read on a fasting forum that electrolytes during a fast would also combat the drop in energy. So I made my own home-made electrolytes by simmering onion, celery, parsley and potato with Himalayan salt, and then straining out the solids and drinking the broth. I also kept my mind occupied with a good mystery novel that I am listening to, called "14". I took my supplements this morning which included royal jelly, Dong Quai, Nu-Woman, chlorophyll, glucosamine, evening primrose, tart cherry and turmeric. So that was my fasting day and I am looking forward to weighing in tomorrow and seeing what the result is. Hoping to repeat tomorrow but I will probably eat something on Wednesday as I am booked to go on another hike with the tramping club. This time we are going to a wetlands reserve that I have never even heard of. Will take my binoculars as there are lots of birds there. I did a 30 minute run this morning with Jock (jack russell) and then another 30 minute walk with Honey (dachsund) and Molly (my daughter's chihuahua that I look after) when I was done at the office. Good morning everyone! Today is scheduled to be the hottest early May Bank Holiday on record.
DH and I have done our regular exercising and I have asked my friend to walk up to the pub and back with me when she arrives for lunch. It's about half an hour each way. She will text me if she can't get here on time and I will walk by myself. I'm going to wear my huge black Chinese hat to keep the sun off. (It folds up to nothing)
Other good news is that my anniversary fleece present arrived today. Delivery on a Bank Holiday!!! And it isn't too big. Hooray! It's a North Face one in a lovely petrol navy. I'm sure it will see good use on the cruise in the far north of Sweden. I was so worried about the size as I ordered a large. Mainly because my back is so broad.
I have done all my Swedish twice through on Duolingo and I'm starting a third round. I know I won't need it, but it's been fun. I can say things like, "People wear silly hats to a crayfish party". "The fireworks over Stockholm were very beautiful this New Year" "The taxes are very high and I don't want to pay them" I'm sure I will get plenty of opportunity to say all that.
Got to get scrubbed up for my friend's visit.

I'm a goose. My husband's in Nepal for two weeks. Before he left he told me he would check in every day by text or email or his snazzmatazz GPS tracker. Of course I took him at his word, so yesterday evening when I hadn't heard from him for a full 36 hours, I started to worry. The worry followed me into dreamland and I had several dreams with more or less horrific explanations to why he hadn't been in touch.
This morning when I woke up, I sent him a text message asking if all was well. And heard nothing. So I sent another one to his GPS. Finally around noon today he sent me a text message saying that they had come down "a thrilling road" and were safe and sound now. (A thrilling road? :noway: Gee thanks!) I texted back and explained that I worry when he doesn't contact me according to schedule. He apologized about that. But it had been a long, eventful day and he fell asleep before he got around to texting.
He's apparently handling the altitude well (they slept at 12,500 feet last night) but his traveling companion (our friend the pastor) has had headaches and nausea.
I was feeling nauseous myself this morning. I was THAT worried. It didn't help at all that there were a zillion excellent explanations for why he hadn't contacted me. Strangely enough, I found some comfort in checking where he was on Google Earth.
So is modern communication technology a curse or a blessing?

Machka! I'm a bit late catching up, but I got tears in my eyes reading your news about your husband. What progress! I love the fact that he knew what to reply to your question about eating an elephant. I bet the cycling motion and the music you are playing are very beneficial in helping him get his bearings again. And most importantly, his interactions with you! Yay!!!
Barbie So glad Jake is being freed to go back to his regular activities. That is good news for both of you! LOL! Janetr about doing the dishes.
Sharon I rather like the idea that you hold all the cards. That is poetic justice.
Heather For the most part, I am a silent consumer of the Facebook & Instagram feeds of my various relatives, especially my children's. It is my firm belief that they reveal much more to their friends than they do to me. The quieter I remain, the more likely I am to be privy to what matters the most to them, and to remain "in the loop". By subscribing to the grandchildren's sports calendars, keeping up with my children on FB & Instagram, and accepting the responsibility of getting my granddaughter off the bus one day a week, I manage to find out most of what I need to know to be of use and to "fill my cup".
p.s. I love bluebells. I wonder if Virginia bluebells are similar to the ones you have in the U.K.
Michele NC That is a great pool area you have. So welcoming!
Penny I may be the only person on the face of the earth that despises caviar.
Lanette If you are so inclined, a 500 (or fewer) calorie fast one day a week would probably suit your purpose. Some people actually make that day a "fat fast", getting all their calories from bulletproof coffee or tea, for example, although that much fat without any other nutrients could set off a gallbladder attack or cause nausea. If you are already on a high fat diet it would be fine. When I was doing a fasting day each week, my 400-500 calories came mostly from protein shakes. Now, I don't think protein shakes are necessarily the best choice, but at the time, it worked really well for me. I would like to be able to do a complete fast (no calories) one day a week. I have never done that, but I think it would be beneficial to me for mindfulness and for health.
New Sue Welcome!!! We have one Sue - maybe you could be Sue from Kentucky? You found a great group of women to support you during your journey.
Katla Why is your neighbor pruning your camellia? I don't understand her motivation. Is it bothering her in some way?
Kay Many (((Hugs)))
Penny (again) It is very worrisome when people say they will communicate with you within a certain time frame & they don't follow through. So sorry you had angst-filled dreams. (((Hugs)))
Carol The recertification was BLS/ACLS for work.

5 mile walk with my bff on Sunday-- wow that felt great. Scale is on the downward trend, hooray, down a pound and now I am feeling truly motivated to get back to maintenance weight by the end of June! Woot!
And I did buy a skirt, two shirts and a pair of white pants (risky for me) and it feels great, I haven't bought clothes for over a year as part of my minimal shopping lifestyle. And, a pair of Merrell Sandals that seem to have great arch support, deep heel cup so we'll see if they work with my PF prone feet!

I was in Nepal on the Everest Base Camp trek in April 2015 when the earthquake hit. I'm shocked he can text everyday because once I got above Namche Bazaar, I only had intermittent connectivity, then nothing for like 24 hours after the quake. Which trek is he on? What an incredibly beautiful terrain in the Himalayas. I hope you post some of his photos!

Our neighbors are going to sell their house. His health has declined and they have decided to stay full time in the home in the south where they spend the winter. Last week their daughter and her kids came and did a massive cleanup of the yard. Their daughter told me that her mom wants to get rid of all the iris along the back of the house where it doesn't get enough sun and wanted me to have them. They have to be moved before the house goes on the market so today or tomorrow I'll be digging up about 40 iris. My walking friend said she'd help and Jake might help, too. They will be an awesome addition to my yard.

Katla - sorry you had a bumpy Sunday. My DH is so used to me being his "lifeline" - paying bills, banking, getting groceries, general shopping and needed socialization and inspiration. When my back went out a few weeks ago he got depressed and (more) quiet for a couple days and then asked, "What if something is really wrong with you that can't be fixed?" My normal caring response: "The pizza place delivers and it looks like Mickey D's is about to do the same." Indeed.
Wendy - thank you for your fasting info! Getting good electrolytes is a super idea and I like your recipe. By the way, our living room is always strewn with animal bodies on chairs too. I finally bought a back-friendly recliner so I have a comfortable place to sit without dislodging a dog.
Barbara AHMOD - I keep forgetting to ask you - were you able to load up on your favorites at Trader Joes? Last week I got some baby bok choi which I stir-fried. Yummy. And lots of that canned sockeye salmon with skin and bones. SUPER YUM lol. DH can't stand to smell fish cooking so canned it is.
Karen in VA - thank you for your input! Something "light" on a fasting day sounds appealing if I end up on the 5:2 - I could probably do a nice smoothie. I too find out a lot about what my relatives are up to on line. Some of these kids will post just about anything! Whoa! LOL.
Penny - I can envision that thrilling road your DH was on. YIKES! Better not to know until they are back, right? I agree with modern communication being a curse and a blessing. Very glad you finally heard from him and hope he stays closer to mother earth on wider roads for the rest of his trip!
Evie and others with new dishwashers - I heard of Bosch and will look into it. I'm still doing dishes by hand since ours croaked last fall and really don't mind but I miss the thorough cleaning job dishwashers do - not that I don't do a good job with my little dishpan but the water cools down more quickly than I'd like so I keep dumping and refilling it several times throughout the process. Keeps the sink pipes clean tho.
Janetr - I have purposely cut back on steps when my Fitbit is in the charger, lol. Thank you for the cute cartoon!
Pip - Happy Birthday Floyd you big lover boy!! Hugs and big wet smoochies, lol.
Barbie - what a score on the Irises. One of my favorite no-fuss flowers. Hope you get nice new neighbors.
Time to roll. Heading to town to get my allergy shots and might swing into the vacuum cleaner store.
Have a great week, ladies!

Barbie when you dig them up dip them in a bleach solution before you plant them to prevent Iris borer. If any of the rhizomes are not firm or have holes in them discard. They also do not like to be planted very deep. How long have they been in the shade? Sometimes when a flowering plant has been in the shade too long they do not bloom as well. It might take a year or so in good sun to revive them. You have nothing to lose by transplanting them. I have lost perennials to the shade in our garden. I wish I had thought to dig them up and give them away sooner. I agree Iris is such a great addition to any garden.2

Allison - He's not on a trek at all; they're on a week-long whirlwind visit gathering material for a book. The GPS tracker he's got communicates via satellite, so he isn't dependent on the ordinary type of connectivity. All he needs is open sky (and there's a lot of that) plus electricity once in a while to charge the thing.

I had to laugh a little at this post because it reminded me of an acquaintance of mine who HATES iris, and took great glee at ripping all of the iris out of the yard of a newly purchased home. She just snatched them up and threw them willy-nilly over the fence into a nearby field. She made a point of launching them here and there just because. The next year she had the most glorious field of blooming iris - hundreds of gorgeous, huge, varied-color blooms, and one of the prettiest sights she had ever seen.11 -
Karen that's a wonderful story! Karma may come after you but Mother Nature is apparently more forgiving

Lunch went well. I ate very abstemiously and healthily and drank AF beer.
We have chilli tonight with veg and home grown rhubarb for dessert., so I didn't want to eat much lunch. I even left half the grilled goat's cheese!
The walk to and fro was HOT! Phew! Nice to see my friend though. Nice to dress up in summer clothes and put some face on for a change instead of wearing exercise gear and no makeup all the time.

Happy Monday to All!
Had to drive from Marietta to Woodstock to pick up DGD from school and take her to the doctor. Bug bite on let was red, swollen, and big. Dr. prescribed children's zyrtec. Took her back to school at 10:58 and was told her class had just finished eating lunch and was leaving the lunchroom. Secretary said she couldn't page the teacher to let her know C needed to eat lunch. So now I have to worry that my skinny little 6 yr old is going hungry.
Now I have to leave and go back to the dentist to find out where my tooth pain is coming from.
KeytoneKaren ~ Had to look up your certification and must assume you are in the medical field.
Katla ~ So sorry you had a bad Sunday. Hope today is better.
Barbie ~ Don't overdo the yard work.
Allie ~ Glad you enjoyed your weekend.
Pip ~ Had to look up ebike and didn't know there was such a thing.
