Hi Gals,
Barbie – thanks for keeping us going!!!
Michele – My mom didn’t either, she said what was “in” in her area was a welcome baby, when the baby was a few months old you had friends in to meet the baby…
Katla – how sad! And what a mighty reminder to all of us to keep on keeping on even when we lose our way for a few days.
I love the accent conversation, I am a Californian, but from the Northern part – so no “Valley” accent here…BUT my most loved Grandma was from N. Dakota and I picked up a one word accent, so I do not wash the dishes I warsh them! And George Warshington was the US’s first president…. Depending on a conversation, folks ask me where I am from…. I suspect that folks in many countries think of USA English as an American accent, yet there are so many accents depending on where in the country you are from. And regional slang… oh my a whole discussion on it’s own.
I had a pap this morning, I did not have my regular doctor, I’m a Kaiser patient, (it’s a regional medical group with many of it’s own groups of doctors, as well as it’s own hospitals), so I got the doctor that worked with my schedule she was so nice, it was the least yucky exam I have ever had. – now mind you I’d rather do anything else, but its all relative.
Smiles

Happy May! I think perhaps spring is really here to stay this time <knock on wood>. Blizzard Evelyn was crazy here in April! So happy we hit the 70's yesterday and today! I am not wishing away years or anything, but I do look forward to the day I can retire and enjoy each day doing what I love, as my husband does. I'd much rather be home planting flowers or digging a garden than sitting in a cubicle at work today! Although, that doesn't mean I'm not grateful for such a great job!
I didn't do so well keeping up with the group in April. I wish I could do better at it, because I really enjoy all of you and think about you often, but I always end up so far behind that it's overwhelming trying to catch up!
April was not the best month for me, but I did make progress in some of the areas so I'll take it! I go to the doctor tomorrow for my hip and am hoping they will send me to PT so I can start a walking regimen now that it's nice out! I have an old injury that comes back to haunt me intermittently, and I'm in pain just walking to my car in the parking lot after work right now. I can deal with that if I have to, but what I'm worried about the most is a girls' weekend I have coming up in a few weeks. There are many ladies from a private breast cancer survivor online group I belong to who all meet up near Chicago once a year and just have a really good time meeting in person and just spending time together. I'm sure you know just from being a part of this wonderful group how close you get to people you've never met in person but know really well from sharing and supporting online. Anyway, I do not want to be the one lagging behind on that weekend, and I'm determined not to be!
April Goals:
• SW: 177.8 lbs Weigh less on May 1 (Actually gained 1.8 lbs)
• Activity 30 minutes per day 3x per week Hurt my hip and have to go to physical therapy to get it aligned and strengthened.
• Get lymphedema under control Yes, this is much better. Not all the way yet, but better!
• Finish baby quilt for a special friend Not finished, but good progress made.
• Unplug on Sundays, except for MFP of course! I have actually started trying to incorporate this into much of my day on Saturdays also.
• Prep for next week the weekend before
• Work toward finding a morning routine that makes mornings smoother.
• Work on bedtime routine and being consistent so I can wake up easier. Not there yet, but much progress made.
May Goals
SW: 179.6 lbs. Weigh LESS on June 1st
Focus on Hip strengthening and alignment
Lymphedema massage daily x2 on arm
Get my bicycle out and ride it 3x per week
Finish and mail Baby Quilt
Keep social media and online chatter to under 90 minutes on Saturdays and unplug on Sundays totally.
Meal plan every weekend and make grocery list
Prep snacks into serving size bags every weekend for the next week
Make consistent evening routine into habit
Write 5 things I'm grateful for "today" in my gratitude journal each night
Do something I enjoy every day, no matter how small
Have a lovely May Day, ladies!

Hello All,
VERY new here (42 days and counting) I have done very well logging everything I eat and drink (yay me!) and keeping within my calories. So far, I am down 13 lbs. A loooonng way to go, but I didn't get here in a month, so I can't expect to leave here in a month. Exercise is tough. I walk to work and a bit on my 30 minute lunch and I track my time/pace walking. Working out is tougher. Affording a gym membership or the Y is out of the question right now, so I have to forcus on what I can do. At least with the break in the weather, I can add yard work. (edited to add: With work and house chores how do you get 10 or 15,000 steps in??)
Goals:
Keep on logging
Up my walking time
Lose another 8 lbs this month
Drink more water. (why is that SO HARD??)7 -
I had a jolt yesterday. I called an old friend from high school to see whether we could meet for lunch this coming week. Her husband answered and said she is in a nursing home! This is due to health complications that accompany extreme overweight. He did agree to meet for lunch, and said he'd go and pick her up from her care facility for the occasion. I hope that she is able to come for the lunch.
Katla in beautiful NW Oregon
I worry about this with one of my best friends. She missed my sister's memorial service because she had a health scare and had to go the emergency room. :-( I'm sorry, Katla.

As requested -- greenhouse pictures.
Well my chip eating binge finally caught up with me. I was careless a couple nights ago and shared a snack bag of nacho cheese Doritos with my little guy, not realizing, (i.e. not checking) that they are not gluten free. Needless to say, my tummy is very upset with me. I had difficulty sleeping last night. I couldn't wear my wedding ring today, and I am making multiple trips to the potty at work. So stupid of me.

Just watching our local news and found out that in Barcelona they have run out of the local stone for use on Gaudi's Sagrada Familia ( think I've spelt it right) so they being supplied with stone from a quarry in Warrington which is just down the road from Liverpool, I think that's really cool.
Worked out calories for my lunch today needless to say scary but will go really HFLC for 3 or 4 days and 3 days in gym

Nankayk - the 10,000 steps thing is just a number. Dreamt up by a Japanese tracker manufacturer. You can get the same benefit from 10mins vigorous walking 3 times a day. You have to walk fast enough to be slightly out of breath. It is very doable and can even be done in the house by marching on the spot. Good luck. Of course, any exercise is great - climbing stairs, doing housework, gardening, keeping on the go.

Well this is the news...I will be in a boot for 3 weeks Allie the time except for bed. Then I transition to a “corset “. I see dr again in 5 weeks and see if the swelling and pain have gone down enough that it is tolerable. If it is I’d wear boot and brace off and on for the rest of my life. He thinks that I will end up having to have surgery. Could be worse as it wasn’t a complete tear.

May Day Greetings!
Barbie, "thank you" just seems so inadequate, but thank you from my heart.
Apologies for the multiple quotes and typos yesterday. Now you know why I prefer to post from my laptop, I'm soooo touchscreen challenged! Just give me a keyboard and a DOS prompt, please!

Pat in PA My last mammo was 3D and I don't remember it being any longer or more (or less!) agonizing than the 2D. So much depends on the tech's experience and expertise. Back in Boise I read that applying a topical anesthetic containing lidocaine, then wrapping with plastic for an hour before washing off for the exam (1) but the FDA (2) warns against. Since my breasts are heavy and my tissue thick, I'm going to try the wrap next time. If you can tolerate NSAIDs an aspirin or ibuprofen about an hour before can help.

Betsy "so I got out and walked with Ella" Well done. Safe travels! TMI alert: Joe's attitude about my rescue Wheaten was the straw. He told me to get rid of it. (Hello, I'm Barbara, you've been married to me for 20+ years and you think I'll "get rid" of a dog? Who are you? Who do you think I am?) So I said we needed counseling, he replied he didn't need counseling to know she was a GD bad dog. So I packed up the dogs and my most important belongings and ran away for the weekend. Came back and asked him again to go to counseling. When he said no, I said "well then, I want a divorce." "Over a dog???" "It's not the dog, it's us." I bunked (dogs and all) with a buddy, consulted a divorce lawyer and a counselor through my work's Employee Assistance Program. Had the pups in doggy daycare while I worked, and leashed to me while at my buddy's. After a week he decided that he'd go to counseling with me. It was just what we needed and exactly when we needed it because the next year was a hard one for me and he was really supportive. Our marriage had been rocky for close to 10 years and I must say that the past 10 years since this event have been the best ever.
Okie is there room for one more at your patio events?
Terry SNOw? Oh NO!!!
Felicia jealous of your greenhouse, would you share a pic?
Mary 3 week keto challenge? What an accomplishment!
Lanette "... make our own 'families' And how lucky we are to have this group of sisters" Amen sister! Eating canned salmon with bones and skin :noway: sounds yucky to me but I do love the canned albacore. TJ's had beautiful big globe artichokes for 99 cents each. In our small coastal town, Freddy gets $3.95 apiece!
Beth glad to hear from you, safe travels!
Rori so glad you had DH at gym with you to counter the helpless feeling about your brother. You are not useless, you got his GF to alanon. Well done!
Kim your boundaries advice to Betsy was right on point and so succintly said!
Rebecca broth and toast, how comforting!
Michele, sometimes with husbands "what they don't know won't hurt..."
Katla jolt indeed! Caution to us all...
NYKaren I'll climb back onto that wagon with you, okay?
Cheri good luck with the move. Share pics of new living room furniture when it comes?
Welcome Kay in TX. (((hugs)))
Welcome golfergal "lifetime quota of rain in the NW" made me laugh out loud. My DH got his lifetime quota of sagebrush in SW Idaho so we find the rain a real treat!

Enjoy the day, lovelies!
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD.
To be specific it was roasted beef broth ( Better Than Bullion), with a drizzle of olive oil. I like the sheen the olive oil gives it! The toast was actually a French roll cut, buttered and broiled. I dipped, then slurped!

So I paid bills today... I had balanced the checkbook last week, so I knew that this would be easy. Only about 5 debit card transactions to check to see if they had cleared, take my checkbooks balance , add the 1 of 3 insurance mental deductions back in, and voila, it should balance what the bank shows. Ok, husband made a $100 error, a $3 error and listed one of the debit card amounts as .10 instead of .02 in the cents part. Really husband?? So I had already listed all the bills in the checkbook, and had a balance. I first had used that handy dandy white out for the $100 error, but then noticed I would have to change all the blinkin math, so in the area of the white out I put a sad face and the word Aack! Good news is that we have a bit more money to fiddle-fart with!
Once we get son's stuff in here, it will be not so echo-ish in this house. We had a pest control service come and spray around, checking here and there. I guess that is a thing the owner set up, and pays for. So we got her card, and if we see any critters all we need to do is call her up. The fact that the owner has it, makes me leary. Sending evil rodent thoughts about my house now.....
I am feeling better today. All that news about my blood tests, upcoming procedures, had me in a tailspin. Plus that grazing of too much protein, and dairy on Sunday had to be worked out.
Hugs to those transitioning, moving, may you find peace in your chaos!

Lenora I'm so sorry you have lost a grandchild as well. It's just devastating. My daughter has done exactly as yours did! I have been unable to see her since our Bradley died. She has misdirected anger and unfortunately it is aimed at me. She has caused such an upset in our family because of it and won't even let us talk to her two little ones, ages 5 and 6, on the phone. And her oldest son, our other grandson who is 22, is doing the same thing! He sent some scathing text messages to me and my husband a few days ago making all kinds of accusations. And none of it even made any sense. It's just insane. I pray that both of our daughters will finally come around and heal these relationships.
And thank you everyone for the warm welcome and cyber hugs. ❤️️9 -

Subbed in a delightful class today. In writing they did 10 min goal setting. I find this intriguing i.e. set mini goals. Goal for dinner one taco and small salad. Short walk after dinner. Bed by 10:30 asleep by 11:00. I found when I went to bed too early I would wake up too early in the morning. Wake up time goal 7. When I do this I'd like to try 3 mini goals that meat my long term goals. Better eating, exercising, and sleeping.

Thanks to those who welcomed me and to the one that said you are a very chatty group and it can be a challenge to keep up, oh girl, you are ever so right about that! I haven't really kept up at all. I have near 250 to read just to catch up. Maybe I'll just start over again, since I dropped out of my previous threads. With good weather I'm outside a lot and I'm working on my Family Tree, which consumes huge amounts of time. My diet has not gone so well lately because of eating too much sodium because we've been eating out too much mostly. Today I will start to log again and say no to eating out. The fluid retention and the weight are really bothering me and it's just STUPID to continue to do what doesn't work!!!
To my surprise I posted this on April, not thinking about it being May 1st, then went back and read that page only to find it was on the wrong month and now I'm three pages behind! Guess I better do some reading tonight to try and catch up!

Well my goal for May is to start living a little healthier. It seems once I hit 50, weight loss, energy and proper sleep seem to escape me. I'm hoping MFP will be my new friend and will keep me honest with myself. It's May 1st and I will make this my mission. Start eating smarter, healthier and get the heck outside to enjoy some nicer weather.7

Holly, welcome!
I would rather spend a couple of times a day reading a couple of comments then have to read a bunch of pages every couple of days. Then I put my own bookmark on that, and delete the old one. That's how I digest all your comments anyhow... Lol!

Hi ladies, I'm a complete newbie and really enjoying the community posts! I am 51, from Dublin, Ireland.
Need to lose well over a stone but I'll be happy if I can lose over half a stone by my holiday in late June, I'm very lazy about exercise and find it hard to give up the chocolate but have managed to lose 4lb in the past two weeks.
One of my main aims also is to try to get to bed at a reasonable time as I'm a real night owl which doesn't go too well with getting up for work in the morning!11 -

April goals all tolled about 70% successful. Not so good. Bad month with winds, heat, and depression.
May daily goals:
3 miles (7,000 steps) 7/7
10 min stretches/strength/yoga 2/7
9.3cups (74.4 oz) water
4- 1/2 cup servings veggies
3 - 1/2 cup servings fruit
1 serving dairy
Lose 3 pounds to get to 187.2 or less by May 30.
Starting weight 190.2 up one pound over April.
Lannete No one here to walk with. On private property and we are the only ones here.
Katla I'll give the D3 another try. I used to take it daily when I lived in New England. Stopped when I landed in New Mexico because of all the sun here.
Kim My family never connected before either. Unless they physically got together, they never keep in touch with each other.
Katla I too have a high school friend who is in a nursing home due to health and weight problems. My sister in law is in an assisted living facility and she is younger than me too. She is overweight, smokes, drinks, and does drugs. Scary thinking about this and the possibilities..
Trish I am much like you. When someone hurts me or to avoid confrontation, I walk away and try to stay away.
Gofergal(I think?) You got your 'lifetime quota of rain' living in the NW, well I got my lifetime quota of snow, rain, and clouds from living in the North East (CT). Living in an RV in New Mexico for the last 6 months and loving it!
RV Rita in Columbus New Mexico for now.

Had a wonderful time at library book club this evening. We read and discussed The Life She Was Given by Ellen Marie Wiseman. We also had a chance to pick up some advance copy books the librarian had on hand. So thankful for this library here in College Station as it is the place I go to for book club, adult coloring and adult crafting and have made some really nice acquaintances.
My young niece, Heather, the mother of 4 young children under 7 yo age was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer last month. It has been quite a blow to the family but they have an extremely supportive support system. I wanted to do something for her and had asked her what I could provide from a distance. She asked me to not worry and to ponder something scary as she is facing the scariest thing she has ever had to. So I decided, as I was giving my husband his monthly haircut (Wahl clippers #4) that I would cut my hair. Ultra short. I've worn my hair short always, except those few times when I thought I could grow it into long flowing locks, jokes on me. But as I buzzed my hubs head for the umpteenth time I thought could I let him do this to me? Could I look and feel good with really short hair? Well the results were wonderful! I love my hair! Scary yes. Going out in public scary yes! But we think it looks great. And I feel a kinship with my niece and she gave me strength to do something during a time when her own strength is being tested. I may never enter a hair cuttery again!
