Hi Gals,
Terry – I totally think you can be-dazzel it!
Cheri – that was brave I can’t imagine doing it…. But you look really cute!
Welcome all the newbies!
Trying to get ready for vacation, I’ll be gone a week – that is the longest I have been away since 2008, and there are little things that need to be done that I had not thought of, like eat, give way, or figure out how to freeze stuff out of my refrigerator… timers for the lights… and on and on…

@coastalgosgal- I visited Washington State a couple of years ago and loved it but I didn't get out to any of the coastal islands. I love to watch Island Living on HGTV and Whidbey is on there pretty often, so I really would like to visit there next trip! It's very beautiful. And thanks for the tip on more frequent viewing of this thread!
@Lenora and @2aycocks- My deepest sympathies. I lost my grandson at age two very tragically, I know that pain but for me, my son didn't turn against me, so I don't even have a clue how difficult that must be. For me the worst part was not being able to say or do anything to comfort my son. Watching him suffer was so unbelievably hard on me. He has not been the same since and it's been 30 years now. He is much better but I think maybe that is something you never really truly recover from. I'm praying for you two and your families.6 -
Barbara – Invest in a $19.99 wireless mouse. Then the only thing that will be a challenge is keeping up with it. I brought bright colored ones. I am so ‘touchpad challenged’ that I wanted to throw it across the room; but, you will have to ‘disable’ the touchpad so they both won’t continue working. Some programs it is automatic; but, I use Outlook, so I had to go in and specifically disable the touchpad.
Terry – I have done just about everything. I should have known better not to ‘push’ it; but, some days you wake up ‘stupid’ and that is what I did on my ‘stupid day’. Not too tight; just knuckle swollen. My knuckle is a size 8, the base of my fingers is about a 7 ½ . I thought about just waiting until I lose a few pounds and try it again, before I end up having to have them cut off and resized. That’s cost about $90 to do. I’ve been expecting a birthstone ring; but, IF it isn’t here by Friday, I am going to tell PayPal to take it off my account. The last tracking of it was it was ‘in China’ … WTH did it do to have to go to China first. Expected it within 10 days of ordering it.
Oooo, how and heavy … sister had to wear one of those.
Oh, good grief; I did not realize how much of a Southern Drawl I had until the first time I heard it recorded. NOW I know why, when I went to Oklahoma after my junior year in HS, they made fun of my accent. They wanted me to just ‘’talk’ … Y’aaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllll!!!!! When I talked to Michelle the first time, I expected more of a 'drawl' from her, didn't get it.
I’m HOON-gry and could drink a PAINT of water. No problem pronouncing ‘tint’ … go figure?!?!?
YEAH!!!!! Don’t have to repeat my colonoscopy. My surgeon said that the younger MD is just twice cautious about them. I’m just happy that he did not see anything to worry about. Now I have Barrett’s Esophagus and they will be sending a spaghetti size tube down my nose and into my throat to see how well the muscles are contracting to push food down my throat and into my stomach. Depending on that, there is a procedure they can do that will correct that. Just waiting for insurance’s payment status. It will prevent me from having to have to take Nexium for the rest of my life. Acid will stay in my stomach and help break down food so it will come out without stopping me up. This burning coming up and going back down is ‘awful’. But, thankfully it isn’t cancerous.

Cheri- you look great in short hair. You will love it when it is pool time in TX.
Kelly - great picture of your family and you have a great camp grandma to look forward to this summer.
Wish I had taken notes. Welcome to all the new ladies so glad you joined us. Rember to bookmark this thread.
Played golf and did ok so feel like I can keep getting g better.
Thanks Barbie for holding us together.
As far as accents, I grew up in the South and we could tell which town people were from by their accent.
I have a hard time telling an English accent from an Australian accent. Makes the Assuies laugh.

OK I've read all the post and it was a bit overwhelming so in the future I will make a word document to make comments on as I go and that way, I can just copy and paste it and not lose it like I have so many times before on other threads!

Did Denise Austin’s Boot Camp DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to take the water class
Lenora – so sorry for your loss. Sometimes my knuckles are so large from the arthritis, I have a hard time getting my rings off. I usually put glycerine on my hand and the ring eventually comes off. True, sometimes I have to keep turning the ring and it take a little elbow grease, but it does come off.
Katla – I can imagine the shock. I called my cousin and her hubby answered the phone to tell me she was in the hospital. Was I shocked! I hope your friend can make it to the lunch. I’m sure it’ll be good for her to get out of the nursing home
Cheri – so happy for you. That’s exactly how we moved to NC – moved almost everything ourselves and then had movers move the few pieces of furniture we took. For us, we looked at the price to move a piece of furniture and could we buy new for the same amount. If we could, it was a no brainer.
Heather – I prefer an exercise class that isn’t wall-to-wall people (or close to that). I hope everything works out for you
Hi there Amy and nankayk and lacey and anyone else that I missed!!!!
Trish – when someone hurts me, I also walk away and figure if they had to do that, they have a problem – not me
Exercised then went outside to get the ground ready for my Mother’s Day gift of mulch (yes, that’s what I want). It was also a gentle reminder to Vince that that’s what I expect. Looks like the pool MIGHT be fixed, Vince needs to cement some pipes. He’ll probably do that tomorrow while I’m at exercise then need to get my hair cut. I’m going to try going to the local cosmetology school. They’re less expensive, and all I want is just 1-1/2 inches shorter. So I’ll give them a try. It’s only hair, so if they mess up, no big deal. I do feel like I should tip them, but at $5 for a haircut I’m not sure how much to tip. $1 seems too chincy yet $2 is almost 50%
I gave Vince a sort-of ultimatum. I told him that if he didn't have this one picture hung by Thurs, that I would do it. His excuse? "I was waiting for you to tell me where you wanted it". Well, why didn't he tell me that's what he was waiting for? Or was it just a convenient excuse. Whatever. I know that the minute I start doing something, he'll do it.
Steve called last night. He’s coming here Monday and leaving Wednesday. Guess I’ll get some ribeye for him since that’s what he likes. I’ll make something for me since I’m not big on red meat. I’m thinking a broccoli stir fry. May make a banana bread and get an ice cream cake. I know he likes lemon bars, not sure about banana bread. Otherwise, I’d give that to him to take home. Also thinking of making some of the spinach feta. Need a potato/rice. Gotta think. Anybody have a good recipe for a cheese sauce? Maybe I will just give him some of the banana bread. Last time he was here and the time before I gave him lemon bars.
Yesterday 71. Today 81. Go figure
Made the appt for next year for my MRI and audiogram.
Barbara – I have a wireless mouse. I really don’t like the touchpad at all. What bothers me a lot is that if I hold my fingers just right, the screen gets real big and then I have the hardest time getting it back to normal.
Lenora – you probably didn’t get much of a “drawl” from me because I have just been in the South for the last 10 years. You most likely heard more of a New Jersey/New York accent. How wonderful you don’t have to have the colonoscopy redone

Pictures from Art in Bloom this year. Hard to choose my favorites.
I liked the one below because the florist and artist were one in the same. There was also a lot of symbolism in the work.
The top one is a Chihuly and the florist dedicated it to his wife
.
The Frank Llyode Wright was hard to get a picture of because the floral arrangement tied in two pieces of his work a room and a chair.
This one I like because it it enhanced the work of the artist.
I thought of you Michele with this one because the florist created the vase to complement the work of art.
A fun day with friends as we explored the musuem.
Time to sign off and get ready for bed.

Lanette… Oh my you understand the “guy grump” syndrome. I can’t imagine anyone opting to jump in and gripe. Life is too short. I remove myself from unnecessary negativity. Then when time passes and emotions have calmed down,, I always address what happened. It has changed our marriage and makes it a true partnership. The last years have been fewer episodes of outburst like happened yesterday. In the beginning of our relationship his angry outbursts were more frequent and we discussed separating and divorce. Through oodles of hard work we are best friends. But I have to be consistent and confront every single time. ☺ I’m not commercial fishing. My sister and I suction dredge during the summer months. I’ve been doing it most of my life. I make expenses and sometimes have a good year but mostly I do it because I love the underwater world and the thrill of looking for gold.
Felicia… so true the angry words and yelling is ugly and abusive. I left my first marriage because of physical abuse and vowed I would never live in a system like that again. Men, seem to have different boundaries than women and my DH needed to be educated about what is fair communication and what isn’t.
Kim…. I’m a believer in counseling and know it works.
Barbara, Oregon Coastie…. Thanks for sharing. You are one smart woman and have the strength of your convictions. I always said after my first divorce that I wouldn’t ever marry a man that needed training. I didn’t know what I was talking about.. because I’ve come to believe loved ones need training. I mean that in a good way. And My DH is worth training. We’ve been together for 30 years and married for 25. It’s still an ongoing learning process.
April came and went and I got in my walking every day. I wanted to lose 5 pounds but stayed the same.
My May goal will be to lose 5 pounds and walk 10.000 steps daily.
Happy May Day to all

Fence from the outside of the yard
Our new fence is finished and we love it.

Rori,
I'll write more tomorrow about scanning, but the first thing you have to do is decide what photos (or documents) you want to scan. That's a huge job that precedes any of the other aspects of the job.

Barbie, the fence looks fantastic!
I went shopping for a new bathroom vanity today for the guest bath redo. I have looked and looked with no luck. I had a picture in my mind of what I wanted - espresso finish with an open shelf on the bottom. To everybody’s surprise, including my own, I came home with this...
When I put the taupe hexagon tile under it with the shower curtain print draped over it, the gray just popped. It was quite amazing.10 -
Hair and haircuts Everytime I got my hair cut short (shorter than shoulder length) I have gone home and cried. In my opinion I look simply awful with short hair. I have also had bangs (fringe, I believe it is called in Great Britain) my entire life. Right now I have a typical for me hairstyle: long, straight and with bangs. (Yeah, the cartoon “me” emojified picture on my posts actually looks a lot like me).
But, with costs and expenses being what they are, I really can’t afford haircuts regularly either. So I cut (butcher, to be truthful) my bangs about once a month and use a curling iron to hide how badly cut they are. And then I’ll have my hair trimmed at the cheapest hair cut place I can find about once every year or year and a half. My mother is rolling over in her grave at these words, one place she would NEVER economize would be on haircuts.
Michelle I wish I had a student hair salon near me. I used to get my hair cut at one when I was growing up. I also used a student salon when I was a student in London, but, lol they messed up BAD! That was London in the 80’s tho, so some diy temporary purple hair dye for a party (which ended up being bright pink permanent tinting) and an attitude and I fit in with the punk scene - so it ended up working!
Well wishes to everyone

A very long day for us. I had my injection this morning in Little Rock which is a good hour from Hot Springs. The neurosurgeon’s office change my appointment to 7:45 am for the MRI with contrast and the injection at 9:15 am. I took a hydrocodone pill after the MRI so I wouldn’t be feeling the injection as much. My doctor is very good and taps the steroid in carefully. It was between L5-S1 vertebrae’s in the lower back. I also had nitrous which I was breathing in at a fast deep rate.
Then I had physical therapy for about 30 minutes and rest heat and a Tens unit on my back.
In the way home I was hungry so DH stopped at Popeye’s and I got popcorn shrimp jambalaya and a biscuit. EKKs! 730 calories.
When we got home I went to sleep for 3 hours. It was 6:00pm when I woke up and I headed for the kitchen. DH bought an Apple pie while I was asleep. Another stress eating dinner! Pie and ice cream!better day tomorrow ‘
machka Wondeful news! I bet your are during the happy dance! Prayers will keep coming for his recovery!
Michelle yes we have coleslaw served on our pulled pork sandwiches. . Delicous

Hello everyone! Not new to MFP, but new here. Thought I'd check it out and see what it's all about. Happy May! Finally the weather is breaking and getting nice here.7

Good morning all! Happy Wednesday! We have rain coming today, so I used tape to make a "road", complete with mailing tube tunnels and bridges, all through my living room and kitchen; and got the bin of matchbox cars out for the kids. Should keep them occupied for quite a while.
Woke up with two questions on my mind. One: The e-coli/romaine lettuce scare. This confuses me; is the e-coli IN the lettuce itself? Or is it merely, people not washing it properly and then getting sick? How come the romaine got it and not whatever else was grown? Question Two: It seems I have hypothyroid condition. Doctor says the thyroid panel shows my numbers are just over the line. She seemed very pushy with meds to bring it down; but is there a way I can do this with change in diet? I looked it up and it says many people go on a medicine for a time to bring their numbers in line and follow a special diet (which looks very, VERY similar to the one I am already using). Anyone, bring their thyroid in line without drugs?
That's all for today. It is pancake morning, so I need to get those going for the kiddos. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)
P.S. to Cheri- You look adorable! Your DH did a great job! I like short hair. Very empowering!7 -
Margaret what great museum pics, wish I could be there!
Cheri Love your short haircut, wish I was brave enough to go for that look. I have a hard time going every 6 weeks to the salon, I keep forgetting! and a short cut requires more frequent trips.
Barbie love the fence, the yard looks terrific.
Who has the terrific greenhouse? man I'm green with envy for that!!!
Today, summer in NY, gonna be 90 degrees, I shaved my legs and am wearing a skirt todayNYKAREN

I have several episodes on DVD, and some of the books. Plus I've read many other books from the library ... and it's on ABC here now and then.
One of the things I like about the series is that it is set in a part of Australia around where I used to live.
Plus Essie Davis is Tasmanian.
