My goals all fell apart in late March for reasons out of my control. I don't know how May is going to go, but I'm hoping to start to pick up my fitness pieces.
For a start, I've signed up for a 5K run at the end of the month. A little goal.
And I've got some plans for more indoor cycling as winter comes on.

May goals.
TrailWalking 5 times a week 35 to 45 minutes x day.
Begin 3 times a week resistance training.
Continue with keto.
Sleep 9 hours a night most nights, in bed by 1030.
I would like to lose five pounds but as I only wish to lose it off my tummy
and add muscle mass to rest of my body, it is more of a reshaping.
Drink glass of water per hour.
Keep a gratitude journal, enter day and evening.
Hello to all, new here.
Cheryl from Newfoundland.

Thanks for all the compliments! Yes, Karen we are twinsies! I still color as it makes me feel younger! Best $3 beauty treatment I use!
Love all the pics. Fences, flowers, vanity and kiddos!
Dreary day here. Laundry, lite packing, exercise and some reading. Have book club at Barnes and Noble this evening. Hubs will be home late as he has to travel to the Houston Campus.
Best nites sleep in several weeks. Must have been exhausted. ☺

Sun came out! I went and did my 5k. I had different ear phones and hardly heard the cars! Oooops! Nice new(for me) tune on my phone, Roar, by Katy Perry. I tend to like the female empowerment anthems.
Then I sorted out all my jam/preserving jars and bottles and took a photo for the Recycling Group. Posted it, so we shall see if anyone wants them. There are funnier things on there.

Hair and haircuts Everytime I got my hair cut short (shorter than shoulder length) I have gone home and cried. In my opinion I look simply awful with short hair. I have also had bangs (fringe, I believe it is called in Great Britain) my entire life. Right now I have a typical for me hairstyle: long, straight and with bangs. (Yeah, the cartoon “me” emojified picture on my posts actually looks a lot like me).
But, with costs and expenses being what they are, I really can’t afford haircuts regularly either. So I cut (butcher, to be truthful) my bangs about once a month and use a curling iron to hide how badly cut they are. And then I’ll have my hair trimmed at the cheapest hair cut place I can find about once every year or year and a half. My mother is rolling over in her grave at these words, one place she would NEVER economize would be on haircuts.
Rye in Tx
I was trying to decide what the heck to do with my hair for nearly six months. I am curly but not in a structured good looking way...frizz and scraggly. I decided to straighten and grow out my bangs for the first time since I was seven years old! I'm fairly happy with it.10 -

Hi all. Wow 5 pages already! Well, I lost my 5# for April, so now it's time to focus on May. I want to lose 5# this month too. Nothing much new here, my final is tomorrow, so it's pretty quiet around here right now. It was stormy last night and will be on and off for the next 2 days as well.
So I finished my one book and I'm starting another soon. I thought I had until June 1 to get the first half done, but it's July 1, so now I can get a few things done at home and get better organized. Things are a hot mess there right now! First I need to do my taxes, lol.
Well I have a meeting to get to, so I'm off. You all have a wonderful day. I'm cheering for you! meg from stormy Omaha10 -
Lenora No more Nexium? I will have to speak to my doctor about that. Thanks for posting that.
Michele in NC my DH does the same thing;waits for me to start something then finishes it himself by taking over.
NANKAYK See a doctor about your water problem. There are ways to treat that. My mom did at 82 and now with meds no longer has to wear pads.
Carol in GA Guess there are more men out there that act the same way. I wonder why?? They think they can do it better, faster, easy to anger with angry outbursts.........
Spent the day in town yesterday. DH finally got his New Mexico license without too long a wait. Ate badly at Wendy’s but not too far over calories for day.
Windy again today. Too much for a walk with sand blowing. DH decided we might be staying longer to have our POD delivered and empty it. More info later.

Hi ladies,
Cheri, I love the short hair. It suits you. Mine is really short too and I love it. Sorry to hear about your niece. I’ll send good thoughts.
Rita, I too suffer from depression and know what you are going through. Hang in there. ((Hugs))
LaceyM1967, welcome to the group. We are quiet chatty (and very supportive) it’s probably best to check in a few times a day.
Boomintruma, welcome to the group. Sounds like you have a good start on the month with a set goal. You can do this.
Holly, I think I missed your post, but welcome!
Kim, how exciting for you to be anticipating a new vacation. Post lost of pictures.
Lenora, I’m like you, I hate touch pads. I have a wireless mouse too. Yeah the good colonoscopy results.
Holly, a lot of us do our posts in Word first.
Michele, like your DH, when I start doing something my DH will come to help or tell me a better way to do it. Then I just step back and before you know it he is doing it. Works like a charm.
Margaret, what an interesting museum. I’d love to go there.
Oh Barbie, that fenced in area is beautiful So calming and peaceful.
DrKatiebug, I love the vanity. We want one for our bathroom as well to put in when we have the tile put down.
Rye, we have a place in town that is like a discount hair place. I pay $18 for a cut. Not sure if you think that’s cheap or not. lol
Dana, glad the injection went well. Sounds like you have a very caring dr.
lisaMR63, welcome to the group. Tell us a little bit about yourself and the general area you are from. Since there are so many of us, this info helps us keep track of everyone.
Greenhouse, can’t remember whose it was, but it is gorgeous!
Heather, sorry to hear you are getting fed up with the housing situation. I don’t blame you as it seems you are continually on a roller coaster. Hope it get back on track soon.
Machka, I’m so glad you are taking care of yourself. Glad you had a day to rest. Think of you often.
Karen, ((Hugs))
Nankayk, I have the same problem with drinking water. The peeing does get better as your body gets rid of the excess water it is carrying. I started at home on the weekends and stopped drinking anything after 7:00pm.
Carol, good for you getting a handle on the clutter. It’s a lot of work.
Cheryl, welcome. Sounds like you have very realistic goals. You are on your way!
Meg, Snoopy happy dance for the 5lb loss.
Mary, what a wonderful way to start the new month.
Hopping along with the boot. What a pain in the butt. I have to say the pain isn’t as bad with more support. But I’m NOT wearing this for the rest of my life. Dr. says he thinks I’ll end up with surgery in the end. I was prepared for that news. I’m estimating that it with be in July. Work wise I can’t do it sooner that that.
My cousin told me that he read in Consumer Report that the cheapest place to get medicines is through called Healthwarehouse.com.
Healthwarehouse.com?? $66.00 CHEAPEST
Costco: 105.00
Sams: $153.00
Walmart: 518.00
Walgreens: 752.00
Rite Aid: 866.00
CVS/Target: 928.00 MOST EXPENSIVE
Well that’s it for me for now (you are probably thinking would she ever end this post). 81 (28c) and sunny here! Terry in VT

There is no need to force yourself to drink water. That has been out of date for years now. Just drink so you are not thirsty. Any liquid is fine. Your pee should be light coloured. I drink a lot of tea and sparkling water and I'm always in the bathroom.
I'm not sure I'm entirely over this cystitis. Grrrrrr! Poor DH is getting short shrift in the affection department.

hello ladies, this is my 2nd day back on my fitness pal. yesterday i almost joined weight watchers, then quick weight loss and suddenly i remembered MFP. it always helped when i logged on my food and exercise activity. last time i logged on 350+ days in a row. i got distracted when hurricane harvey fit and destroyed my home and all my earthly possessions. ive been rebuilding since then and thats been a big job. still ive managed to go to the gym since january 3-4 times a week and all in all, my eating hasnt been too bad because i love to cookmy own food. i think if i can get back into the habit of portion control and walking more, i will feel better about my progress. Life is good and I choose to be happy and most of the time, I am.12

Hi. I tried to join in last month, then I lost the board and didn't find it again until today when I saw this new one for May. Holy cow--6 pages already! I did figure out how to bookmark this so I'll be able to keep up.
Not knowing most of you or your names, regarding the "marriage counseling/divorce" topic, After 22+ years of arguing everyday, he wouldn't go to counseling. I didn't give him the opportunity to decide he'd rather do that than divorce--so I left my ex in 2010 (divorced in 2011). I am now 56 years old and in the last 9 years, I've lost 93 pounds. Had to re-lose 42 in 2017 plus an extra 24. I'm at my Weight Watchers goal weight but have opted to focus on calorie counting here. Still in WW though since it's free and I like the meetings.
I didn't lose a darned ounce in April, but I did hit goal and have been maintaining.
May's goals:
Lose 1-2 pounds
Keep up my weight lifting routine
Substitute spinning for 3 days of running
Yoga...maybe just start light and squeeze in two Yoga sessions this month
Find this board again

Machka, I’m so glad you are taking care of yourself. Glad you had a day to rest. Think of you often.
Only an evening ... I don't get whole days to rest anymore. Last evening I was just too exhausted to do anything on my list.
And thank you. I really appreciate the thoughts and prayers.

Cheri: Let the work begin! It looks like you've found a home you will love and a hometown that suits you, too. Yay!!! :flowerforyou:
Felicia: I am so sorry about the upset tummy. DH has been put on a gluten free diet and it is bringing him back to life. I am absolutely delighted. I didn't realize how awful the impact of gluten is on those with celiac disease. I've been lactose intolerant since I was 19, and understand how powerful intolerances can become. Juanita's Corn Chips are gluten free & it says so right on the bag. I haven't seen a nacho cheese version. DH LOVES them. I like them, too.
Trish: I'm glad you found your way back to us. The bookmark to this site has become very important to me because the ladies here have become friends.
Margaret: I love the notion of mini-goals. I wish I'd learned of it while I was still teaching. It would have been an empowering habit to share with the kids. I love the art in bloom photos you shared. Thank you!!! :flowerforyou:
boomintruman & LaceyM1967: Welcome!
Cheri: The super short haircut looks great on you, and what a wonderful way to give emotional support to your niece!
Kim: Enjoy your upcoming vacation!!!
Lenora: I've also had bouts of acid reflux over the course of my life. Lately I've been doing much better because I'm eating better. I dropped Nexium several years ago, after I read that there was a possible connection to Alzheimers. DH & I use ranitidine & TUMS when acid reflux is a problem. It does the job well enough and doesn't have scary implications. I hope you will discuss this with your doctor. :ohwell:
Barbie: The fence looks great & compliments your home!!! Congratulations on a successful project.
Machka: I favor year round daylight time. I seem to be a majority of one. :ohwell: As to hair color, I started out blond as a baby and eventually that became a darkish blond. Then it started to get lighter and lighter. I like the current color, lighter on the top and a bit darker as it nears my neck. I only colored it once in my early 30's, & didn't like the result so I let it go natural after that :ohwell:
Karen: I talked to my friend and feel somewhat better about things. She is in a nursing facility for physical problems caused by extreme overweight. They're working on her heath, and mobility. Her mind is still sharp, thank goodness.
Jackie aka Alison Lane: Look at the top of the thread for a blank star. Click on it and it will turn yellow. After that, all you have to do is click on the yellow star to find us again. :flowerforyou:
It is a gorgeous, sunshiney day today and being outside is amazing. I think my face may be turning a bit pink from the lovely weather. We moved a bunch of "treasures" from our garage to the storage unit we rent. It feels wonderful to have cleaned things up that much. DH is feeling tired and grumpy. I'm giving him some space.

3. Have fun every day.
4. Drink at least 3 glasses of water a day.
5. Monitor sleep. Average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.
6. Avoid alcohol.

Fineaswine, welcome to the group. If it took a hurricane to distract you then you’re all set. Lol
Jackie, glad you found the group again. I didn’t lose in April either. But it’s a new month and a good reason to give it another shot.
Heather, thanks for the information on water.
Terry at home, feet up & DH cooking dinner. Aahhh life’s good.5 -
Mary- AJ is beautiful, so happy for you. Has the teacher strike in AZ affected you or your DH’s jobs?
My friend who moved to OH is coming back to have the memorial service for her DH. We talked this morning and she will be here a week and wants to play golf twice. I have to get my old set of clubs back from my grandson so she can use them. Really happy she is coming “home”.
Fineaswine - Were you in the Houston area during Harvey? You are doing great and seem to know what to do to be successful. Atta Girl.

Well $180 for car registration, $137 for licenses changed to WA, $32 for my haircut, and I am done spending money for the day!
New bob, no ponytail!
Speaking of hair, my hairy leg! Haahaa! If it grosses some of you out, then just not look. I have embraced it.
Have a great day y'all!!

Rori, Here's more about photo scanning
*my printer is also a scanner so I found out how to use it
*I scan onto a memory stick, scanning about 20 photos in a session
*using my computer and the software that I have (Microsoft Office Picture Manager), I crop and rotate photos
*then I name each photo and save it in a file system that I created that works for me (I have folder for family, friends, animals, etc)
*deciding on a file system is a personal thing...I've added new folders as I've gone along
This is a challenging process and something I can do only for short periods of time (less than 30 minutes at a time) because it's a combination of tedious work and highly emotional feelings
I have photos that were my mother's and my grandmother's and they cover parts of my life that make me happy and sad and all stations in between.
Good luck
Barbie
Thanks for sharing your wisdom, Barbie. With thousands of photos to review, I anticipate this will be a long term project.3 -
I have about 5 albums I need sort through. Last year I went thru middle sons, taking out all he might like. I put it in a card file box. It is separated by dates and addresses. So he could always know his different addresses. I also made sure I had a bunch of photos of his various toys and room pictures throughout the years. It was a fun progect. I need to do that for older sons. I just put them in an album and called it good. When he moves in, I'll do it, and then do youngest sons. It will make a mess out of our albums, but really, I don't need pics to remember my sons...
REBECCA4 -
Rebecca, love the new bob. Your hair looks nice and thick. You are so lucky girl.
