Went swimming this morning. It's a formal tonight so it's also a chance to wash my hair in the big showers. You would all laugh to see me criss crossing the pool in a diagonal. At the most it's 8 strokes across if I don't push off. I stay in for half an hour doing front crawl, breast stroke, a sort of back sculling for the triceps and a few dives to the bottom and swimming underwater.

Then it was line dancing after breakfast.

Just been listening to another talk by the Blue Peter guy- fascinating about all that appeals they did for charity. Now I'm going down for a talk about Hans Anderson.

got up at 4, got dressed, filled the hummingbird feeder with fresh go go juice for them and am having my tea.. going to take a deep breath and get to it... we will be down at park at 5 am to start decorating..my son will be down at 10 am I think to stay and keep an eye on the place...until we get there

So I've been on Sertraline for a week. The number of hot flashes each day do seem to have diminished a bit.

I usually have 3 that wake me during the night, but then I'm pretty good during the day at work. In the evening they start up again, but only about once every 1-2 hours rather than every 30 minutes all day long.

Unfortunately, one side effect of this medication is nausea, so I have been struggling with that all week. They say it should start to go away, and the last couple days do seem to be a bit better.

I'm really hoping that next week, both the hot flashes and nausea are gone.


Meanwhile, my husband is still in the Rehab Unit. It has been 12 weeks and 3 days since the accident.

Lenora - hope things went very well with your procedure.

Janet and Allie - hope the weddings are all the brides and grooms think they should be and more.

Machka - Seems impossible that it's only been three months since your husband's accident. He's made great strides, but much like weight loss, it must be hard to see that when you see him every day. It hardly seems fair that drugs that do so much good can have some horrendous side effects.

Ginger - So sorry your family's had such a tough year. Love to see you posting here, and hope this community lends some strength to you to deal with a really tough year.

One of the things I realized lately is that, no matter the day-to-day results, by making myself weigh every day and recording it, it's keeping me honest. When I start lying to myself, ignoring the scale, shoving food into my mouth without regard to the consequences, THAT's when I gain weight, get unhealthy, start hating myself, stop taking care of myself. Acknowledging the consequences of ALL my actions, good, bad and indifferent, is part of the change I'm making in myself, with the help of you amazing ladies.

Self-deception is the biggest lie of all... and trying to remember for myself that when I say I can't do something, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy, whether it's lose weight, stop other bad habits, or exercise. When I say I CAN do something that needs doing, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy as well.

DH is coming on amazingly in the ballroom dancing lessons. Today was Quickstep. For a couple of moments I really felt we were "dancing". We also revised the Foxtrot. For someone who could hardly put two steps together at the beginning of the cruise he has made huge progress.

Then we power walked a mile together round the deck. Now he is relaxing on our balcony in the sun. Earlier I sat on the sun lounger outside and painted my nails blue. At home I very rarely paint my nails a colour, just colourless varnish.

Next aerobics together, tea, and then relax a bit before dressing up for the formal.

The weather is glorious, the sea is dead calm, we are going slowly at 10 knots across the South of Sweden.

I am eating very similar food to what I eat at home, but I'm having more for lunch. As I'm only aiming to maintain, that's OK.
For lunch today I had a salad buffet, with grilled mixed veg, then skate with cauliflower and squash. Some cheese and celery for dessert. Sparkling water to drink, plus coffee.
Burning 600-800 a day. Lots of dancing.

Ginger I am sorry for your losses and other family struggles.

Asking for prayers for my friend Jane. She has pneumonia. She started antibiotics and cough medicine Tuesday and was not improving. She was going back to the doctor yesterday. She might be in the hospital. I took her some chicken soup on Thursday, but she was not able to eat any. Worried about her.

Katla, We had many happy times with our RV's. We went to places we wouldn't have gone otherwise and met some wonderful people. It was very interesting that we made the decision at the same time that it was time to sell the RV and vacation a different way. I hope you and your husband have just as many great experiences together.

Heather, you seem to have found a great balance between things you do alone and things you do with your husband. What a great trip for both of you.

Janet and Allie, I hope the weddings go smoothly and with no unneeded drama.

Ginger, It's good to hear from you again. Sorry to hear of family losses.

The rain is gone and warmer temps are predicted for today. I am eager to spend time in my yard pulling weeds and spreading bark.

Katla, regarding the two door RV Barbie posted. Thats not a motor home, its a bumper-pull trailer. Most all of the larger trailers like that have two doors.

Heather: Thanks for your good wishes. DH has medical problems that have robbed us both of things we used to do and love. I'm hopeful that the RV will be able to put a little adventure back into our lives and add a bit of fun. We had in mind to take a few cruises. Alaska was our first planned destination. Sadly, that is not going to happen but we can cruise on land in our RV.

Machka: I'm glad the medication is helping with your hot flashes. My doctor gave me an estrogen pill to help me with "the change" but the side effects were horrible and I threw them away. He said, "You'll be back." I didn't go back. I found this article that seemed to fit my experience.

janetR: I know that the travel trailer picture Barbie posted is not a motor home. We owned a travel trailer in the past. Neither of us can remember its exact length, but was somewhere near 20 feet. We never owned one as big as Barbie's, however. :noway: I was impressed and astonished with the size trailer she and Jake owned. Ours was big enough to have a bathroom that was located side by side with a 3/4 bed in the back. We sold it to friends long ago. :flowerforyou: I hope you have a lovely time at the wedding.


I plan to go riding with a friend about noon, today. DH is planning finish changing all the lighting in the RV to led's. They will save a huge amount of drain on the batteries.

Donna, I'm an early walking person like you. I go early with my dogs when almost no one else is out so we don't get interrupted. Where I live, it doesn't get too warm to walk during the day but too many other people in my neighborhood walk later in the day. I looked at your profile and you've made awesome progress on your weight loss journey. We can all probably learn a lot from you. Do you eat the same breakfast every day or just plan it ahead of time?

Katla, since Jake has been the driver, he has been the one choosing the size of the RV. We traveled with two big dogs and two cats so space was important. When we had the 34 foot trailer, it had no slides so it was narrow and when Shilo, the golden retriever, lay in front of the couch it was tricky to walk past her. Thus we decided that the next RV would have slides to make the living room wider. By then we had two dogs and really needed the space.

Rye Awww, Kid Kirby is sooooo cuuuuute! The office organizing spurt was an very rare occurrence. Very rare. I'm right with you and Okie on freezing single servings when I cook. Helps me with portion control and food budget (as Joe won't eat most leftovers). But not with you on the microwave, I'll reheat my frozen portions for 40 mins in the toaster oven. Haven't had a microwave for a couple of years. Didn't trust them for heating anything containing fats when we had 'em, only used for reheating tea...

Kim et al the prep you describe sounds sooo extreme. I've had two of the darned things and while the pooping uh er prepping was a PITA it was only for a day and a night, then the procedure, then nap, then back to normal. Have the protocols changed in the last few years?

Woke up with that "uh oh, is that a cold coming on" yucky feeling. Grabbed the Zicam, added lemon zest and cayenne to my 3rd cup of tea. Will change breakfast from planned cottage cheese to veggie sausage as dairy can phlegm me up. Was gonna retreat to bed but thanks to Ginger's reminder know I'll feel better if I do my knee exercises and meditate. Really want to take Tumble to dog school today, she did so well yesterday that walking her down the lane was actually pleasant.

Ok, much less free time with full time work, lol, so I’m certain I’ve missed some replies I wanted to make this week but found myself out of time, but here are some!: (The Saturday shift at work is annoying because I don’t want to work Saturdays, but on the positive side, it is slow and I have time to do stuff that is not work related like read this board! )

That is fantastic and SO SO speaks to me! Now that is the type of thing I’m going to post on my bathroom mirror. Doing so will make my husband cheer! John keeps telling me to stop with diverting his compliments on how I’m looking with my, ‘thanks, but I still have Thunder Thighs” or some such drivel. I need to stop that and just kiss him when he is being so supportive and sweet.

Lanette Being legally blind in one eye since birth I am totally paranoid about my remaining vision. Now knowing how much general health (or absence of health) can impact vision was a large motivator for me to start getting healthy. You take care of yourself!

TV watching and Activity: I only watch 4 current TV shows. The Good Place, Lucifer, Elementary and The Big Bang Theory. I’m very happy all have been renewed for the coming year. I have been making myself incorporate exercise while TV watching. Even if it is just grip strengthening or balance strengthening, I’ve made a rule that 10 minutes out of a 30 minute show (or 20 or a 60 minute show) will be active. It is one of the ways I combat my strong snacking demons that like to visit during TV watching. Brushing my teeth before TV watching also helps.

Kim glad that is behind you! Hope your hurting everywhere goes away as fast as it came on!

Allie and Janet: I hope you enjoy yourself in the family wedding events! And Janet, San Antonio is one of my favourite U.S. cities. It sure is more crowded than it used to be tho!

Rori: Kidd Kirby adores it when people love on him. He has to come up to everybody (especially workers like plumbers and electricians) and have a proper head bump and scratching session to welcome them to his world. LOL, seriously, I’ve never had a cat this social, and I’ve been companion to a large number of fur babies!

Machka I looked up Sertraline - commonly called Zoloft here in the States, I think. Wishing you the best on it, hot flashes are sure PITA and you don’t need that on top of everything else. Sending all the positive thoughts I can your way for everything.

Heather Nice nail polish. I like it when it is in different colors other than the pinks and reds. I can’t wear nail polish (my finger tips sweat and feel like they are suffocating) but I like how it looks! Your vacation sounds divine and I admit to envy!

RV’s I’ve never been in an RV – how does it work, it has plumbing and electrical connections that you can hook up at a RV park?

Working full time is requiring me to reformulate my exercise plans. Like I can’t swim very often so I’m going for endurance. Swam for one hour and 50 minutes yesterday, free style and breast stroke. And on SWSY I encountered problems increasing the free weights for the arms because my wrist isn’t strong enough – so I purchased some plastic donut looking things to try to strengthen the muscles in my wrist and my grip strength.
I already spent my first full time paycheck extra money on some luxuries we can’t really afford, but I needed. A new swimsuit. A new pair of shoes. 3 new tops for work. Another pail of Protein Powder (the type I like but not the most affordable).

The rest of the “extra” money for a few months is going to our trip to see my Father in August. Dad and I talk pretty frequently, but I have not seen him since my mother’s funeral. Too long. There were a lot of reasons (finances, my condition etc.) so I am so grateful it works out we can do it this year.

Well, same old same old here, trying to get strong, get fit and stay a good weight. Working and taking photographs and cuddling kitties. Penny pinching and house worrying. Loving and treasuring my dear husband. Situation normal.
