I'm around here, just life getting in the way. Wunjo products are pretty awesome. They are literally a brand new company, so some kinks are getting worked out. Add to that the fact that it takes about 2 weeks for packages to come from Norway, and it can take a little while for things to arrive. That said, I've been running in my X2 and LOVE it. Hands down it's my favorite vest. I normally hate running with a reservoir, but with my X2, it's easy. The vest is super light, perfect for shorter distances under 50k.
If I recall right the X2 is a bit smaller than the X5. I got the X5 because I have a belt that holds 40ish oz of liquid and was looking for a big step up for times when I am really thirsty. But I suspect both packs are essentially the same other than that.
@LaDispute57 here is the X5 with two water bottles added...

Don't say that! The one I'm training for starts on a gentle climb for the first 5k or so, then is a very gently downhill from there. 😂
Kerikeri? That’s an awesome half. Guaranteed PB as long as it’s not too humid. Done it three times and hoping to fit it in again this year.
yep Kerikeri! Lol. well It should be a PB as the only other HM Ive ever done was 3hr 7min in wellington in 2011 - that was hell, I did not train properly, walked over half of it, it was POURING down with a head wind in both directions (u shaped course) and was only 10 degrees. I would have happily quit at 15k but had to get to the end because my ride home was there. Hence all my questions about training for this one - I want to do it in 2.5 hrs or less, and I want to run the whole thing. Hopefully you can make it!
Piece of cake!! Plenty of time to train. Word of warning, however, that's a 7km uphill at the start and while it's fairly gentle, you are running on cold legs. I would recommend plenty of hill training in the coming months. Also, the last five k's are flat, which after around nine k's downhill are a real mind *kitten*.
The event has a great atmosphere. It's a nice smallish field (especially for those of us who've run Auckland three weeks before with its monster crowds). What makes it especially awesome that they close the road for most of it (eliminating camber issues) and you get to enjoy the countryside and the cow smells and everything. Also, the fudge factory a few k's from the end always has a few people handing out samples!!! Can't lose really.
@ContraryMaryMary Fortunately my training run has a couple of decent hills, and right at the beginning usually. I've driven the course just last week to get an idea of the rises, and I'm going to include in my training a couple of other hills as well. When I start doing my longer than 10k runs, I plan on doing the hill bit twice - its about 2k ish - then do the flats after. try and replicate the course a little.
Oh I like the sound of the fudge, I wish Makana (the chocolate place) did that. their Macadamia toffee crunch is so incredibly decadent...

I did 10 miles tonight with temp. of 91F, humidity 79%, dew point 77F. It was slow and there was a lot of walking mixed in... it took nearly 2 hours to do 10 miles. Normally I'm slow, but not that slow. Anyway, I weighed before and after and factored how much I drank to determine I sweated over 102 oz. of water. Fascinating, eh?

I didn't have time to call Garmin today so I will take care of it tomorrow. I charged my old Fitbit Blaze instead so I would have something to track my daily overall activity until I can replace the Garmin, and I used Strava on my phone to track my run today.
Easy 5ish km today. Hal Higdon half marathon Novice 2, week 6 day 1.
I was Googling around the internet and found a bunch of race pictures of myself from earlier this year. So that was fun.

No vlog today because I had a strong headwind and didn't think the mic would pick up my voice over the howling. I'm leaning towards just doing a weekly recap for now until I can get a gimbal.

@Avidkeo You can probably deduce from my SN that I am an RN. I am about a year from completing my NP education. I have to say that grad school, work, family, and fitness are a lot to juggle. However, I am stubborn, so I get it done! What are you studying? I LOVE to learn, so I am always in school!
Thanks for the race wishes!@Avidkeo What healthcare do you do? I also work in healthcare and totally get your phone's autocorrect!

@AprilRN10 lol yep pretty big give away haha. I'm going to be doing my masters in image interpretation. Oh NP is a big job. Good luck. I find study is kinda addictive haha. I'll probably do my PhD eventually!3 -
Woo hoo I made it out for a run at 5:45am and it was BEAUTIFUL! stars were out, no wind, moon in the sky. So still and relaxing. I managed an average pace of 6:20 min/km which is good for me over 6.5k!
So half way through the first week, 18/90km done for July!
And I totally agree, kiwis and aussies should run the world, though we fight like siblings over out favourite toys - aussies keep claiming famous kiwis as their own for example.
Hahaha You can have Russell Crowe back. He was saying he's Australian the other day somewhere!1 -

So, I do not know your level of fitness or training, but if you are newish or even intermediate to this you will want to make sure you are taking at least 1 rest day a week. It is way too easy to overdo it and burn out or get hurt. Just something to consider. Some of us (including me when schedule permits) do run every day for big stretches, but by far most runners only run 3 or 4 days a week.
No I don’t take rest days and I’m really fine with doing this,it’s helping me loose weight.
I don’t over exert myself
Anyone else a bit worried about this?
@Iffiormana Are you saying you walk 5 miles every day and are now going to run every day? I hope not.
Rest days are when your muscles get stronger and faster. You can walk on rest days, but you shouldn't run, and if you're a beginner you should only run 3 days a week.
I didn’t understood that people here are just talking about running. My bad !!
How long have you been doing that? Are you doing Couch to 5K?
If you've been doing this for a year, and you still can't run constantly for more than a mile, you're running too fast. Slow down, and your range will get longer.
Have you tried doing any of the c25k programs? There is a brilliant one on www.podrunner.com where the DJ has the beats matched to cadence! My diet was cr@p and I'm like 3 stone over weight but I still managed a mile after a few weeks training with it... Might be worth a try because previous to that I was able to run like 2 or 3 mins at most but it was because I was running too fast, you need to slow it down to speed up! Sounds counterintuitive but I followed the advice from some people in here and I'm well on my way to 10k distance now!4 -

We lived through the Stars and Stripes 5k! Temp about 90, heat index over 100, dewpoint 77. For me, being used to running at night, this was seriously the struggle zone. They had volunteers to spray people down but it didn't do anything but make you sopping wet. Hate humidity!
I don't know what to think of my time. With the heat and the distance (the map for the course shows it as 3.24 miles) I knew this was not going to be a PR so planned on running easy, which for me right now is about 11 - 12 minute miles. Which is what the official timer has for me, more or less, 11:19 pace. But my phone, and the watch of the lady running next to me, has more than three minutes shorter time, with us running our first mile in 7:49! And the phone called the mile exactly when we passed the mile marker. My phone has been known to mess up on distance but never on time. On the one hand I want to claim that sub 8 minute mile because that is really good for me, but on the other hand it didn't feel like an 8 minute mile. Even accounting for the "running with other people effect," during the first mile I was trying to get around walkers and just not able to stride out, so I dunno.
Since many people's personal timing was off by three minutes from the official timing, I think maybe the timing mats screwed up? And it was counting us as running while we were still waiting to get through the chute, which took several minutes. Since it's showing my official time as only one minute less than gun time, and I know we took way more than a minute to pass the start, this seems possible. How often does something like that happen?
This was not a negative splits kind of day, I honestly thought I might not finish, and my "finishing kick" consisted of me plastering a smile on my face and praying - just one foot in front of the other! Good news is my knee gave me no trouble at all. Now if I could only tolerate heat better.
Anyway! Big race, lot of people, I placed in the top third of my ag which isn't bad considering that the ag winners were running 20 minutes or so and the weather seems to have weeded out the casual runners. No medals but they did have live music and hot dogs and a BBQ stand! We had fun.9 -
@rheddmobiler it is possible they messed up the timing mats but I personally have never run in a race where it happened. I am sure that your phone and the lady's watch both kept accurate time, so assuming you started and stopped them at the right place, you can go with whatever total time they say, then divide by the 3.24 miles (THAT is very normal for a 5k) to get your pace. I would discard the splits though.1

My trainer held a special session this morning at 7 am for several of us. She's about to head out to have a baby in the next couple of weeks so wants to make sure we've all made up any missed sessions before that. Which made it 3 days in a row of circuit training for me. Because the forecast is another scorcher today, I decided I better get out there and run beforehand, so did a 30 minute warm-up run outside. Then during the workout we had some laps and I added on after, on the indoor track. I figured while I was at it, might as well make it a decent run. So now I'm pretty exhausted! Ready for a lazy rest of the day. Although the dog still expects to be walked...
Good job on your race @rheddmobile. Good luck anyone else with a race today! Hope it is/was fun! Celebrate safely, everyone!

The Vegas medals came out and I want that marathon medal. So buckling down and getting to work!
My plan called for a 40 min recovery run. Since I switched up my schedule and had a rest day after tempo day, I didn't NEED the recovery run but I did it anyway. I went above my HR zone a bit but don't care. I was slow, took a few walk breaks, and could talk/sing/whatever the entire 40 minutes. Mostly I was too lazy to figure out what to do instead so stuck to the plan. HAH
I think Friday I may redo my threshold run. If I remember.6 -

Didn't set an alarm, woke up after 9am, would NOT let myself get into the "oops, too late & too hot now, just do it later.." thinking. Got up & got dressed, walked the dog, and headed out!
AND thanks to @JulieS3103 , I saw there is a 5K in the area I will be in next week, ironically, just the other side of the highway from where my 1st house as a child was! (Bristol Progress Days) Seriously debating doing it, if our plans and time allows!!
Where am I from? Originally from Wisconsin, currently in the Suncoast Florida. Plan next year to be moved back up to SE Wi!

@marisap2010 You can keep your alligators. I will stick with cobra chickens.1
