@skippygirlsmom thank you for the welcome
@amymoreorless I agree with the earlier comment that as runners we don't know what TMI is.
Today's run was 2.5 of intervals with totals for rhe month of 8.7 outdoors and still 1.6 treadmill.5 -

At least, I'm pretty sure that was my thought process, although it might just have been, "oh, *kitten*!". Not sure. Anyway, a nice lady saw me fall, didn't laugh at me, and helped me up. And then we both kept running. I'm a little bruised and battered, but my teeth and glasses are intact so it's all good.
@5BeautifulDays LOL That's a very well-written description of a millisecond of clever reaction time.
Hope the bruises don't hurt too much.Another point of anecdata for you
@MobyCarp How have I not heard that term before? Love it.1 -

It really is amazing how much time seems to pass in that millisecond too! Almost feels like you are in a movie and stopped to do an aside in the middle of a fight or something.

Run Goal: Complete a Half Marathon.
Bonus Goal: Handstands.
Runs
July 1 – 11.0 km (6.8 miles)
July 3 – 9.0 km (5.6 miles)
July 4 – 17.3 km (10.7 miles) 2 hour run
July 8 – 17.2 km (10.7 miles)
54.5 km run total.
5 minutes of handstand practice daily so far since June 1.
This morning I did the Sunday Social Run with my running club.
Very enjoyable 17 km, and felt easier than Wednesday's 17 km.6 -
7/1 - 15.0 km
7/2 - rest, 2 km walk
7/3 - 5.1 km
7/4 - 7.2 km
7/5 - 4.8 km
7/6 - rest
7/7 - 13.1 km
45.2/120 km
I think this week has the most miles I've put on in a single week since I started running. Cool.
So today's challenge was finding time to run between the thunderstorms. I, ah, may have misjudged slightly. Let's just say I was soaked from ~5.5km onward during a 13.1 km run. Oops! And then I called my husband for extraction as my legs were dead (from running so much this week) and we learned that the road was closed and he had to detour. Oops again!
Some nice footage from my run in the link below. Much of it is not bouncy as I stopped to walk & talk.
2018 Races: (italics means not registered yet, only pondering)
1/1/18 Resolution Run 5K ~38:00 (no official times)
3/4/18 MEC Road Race #1 10K 1:30:57
3/17/28 St Patrick's Day race 10K 1:24:53
4/7/18 Jasper Half Marathon 3:05:55
4/22/18 MEC Trail Race #1 5Kish 1:00:00? (Or 48:45...)
5/20/18 MEC Trail Race #2 10Kish 1:56:15
6/24/18 MEC Trail Race #3 10Kish 2:03:15
7/1/18 Canada Day 15K 2:03:04
7/28/18 Idaho Peak 10K Trail Race
8/18/18 Edmonton Marathon (Half Marathon)
8/25/18 MEC Trail Race #4 10Kish
9/22/18 Heartbeat Run 10K
10/7/18 MEC Trail Race #5 15Kish
12/1/18 Santa Shuffle6 -
But the trail bits are bouncy.0

Hey all, rest day today as I ended up staying out late with my husband last night - his boss offered us seats in his VIP box at a big outdoor festival and we decided to go for it even though we're technically supposed to be having a quiet month. I mean, free VIP seats, come on! We had our own bartender! There's been a bunch of drama in our friend group recently that we haven't touched base on so we stopped in at our favorite bar after the show and hashed through a bunch of stuff that needed hashing through. And because the best decisions are made over wine in the backyard after leaving a bar well after midnight, we decided to pull the trigger on a big life decision we've been mulling over for a while. So who knows, maybe I'll have a new running buddy soon.
Long story short, rest day today, long run tomorrow AM.9 -

Wow, you are way up there! I am only at 40N. Sunset is 8:53 pm and sunrise is 5:57 am.
@PastorVincent @Orphia Yes my little community is North of 56.
PastorVincent Like you Tailwind does not agree with me. Might have to try a differant flavor in case it's just a reaction to something in the flavoring. When Asics discontinued the 33-M, I tried Mizuno Wave Riders as my walking shoes. Felt great, but I got ankle twinges before the tread wore out, using them only for walking.
@MobyCarp I use the Saucony Guide and Mizuno Wave Inspire for running and have never had an issue with them giving me twinges unless they are worn out - my last Inspire pair was at 700km with tread left and not giving me any pains when I decided to retire them for the safety of my body. I did have a pair of Saucony Peregrine 4 Trail shoes that quite literally fell apart while out running - Heel Cup broke - made for a slow uncomfortable stumble home, the good part with my Strava data ( ~90km ) Saucony gave me a store credit for full value. The bad part the 4 was a better shoe than the 7 or 8. Ultimately I don't care if a shoe wears out a little early as long as my Toenails are Happy and the rest of the body is not crying in pain.Arieslife88 wrote: »Having terrible shin splints and I’m hoping they get better, but I’m glad I haven’t given up yet!
For me, shin splints is a sign my shoes are wearing out and need replacing - or that I'm wearing the wrong shoes.
@Orphia What App do you use for timing the ParkRuns?
It has been pouring rain all day so am just now getting ready to go out for a run.1 -

I'm at 34.17°N. 0623 sunrise, 2048 sunset. @PastorVincent i didnt realize you had an extra half hour of daylight from us in the south.0 -
Ok. Metaphorically something clicked.
My gait became more efficient. My stride wasn't forced.
You're so silly Scott.
@shanaber Thanks for the props! I credit the cooler temps. Last time i tried that work out i petered. But it was 95+. Might be time to increase those running times!
ETA i really hate this new update on mfp mobile.
I can't see the entire response field.

Exactly! Slow motion!
When I fell two weeks ago and rolled my ankle, it honestly felt like I was *placing* myself on the ground.0 -

Honestly, a few years ago when I looked it up, I was surprised too how much difference there was across the USA. I just do not think of USA being all that big and definitely not that tall (north to south).1 -

You would think with all that time we could come up with a way not to get hurt on the way down, but somehow that does not really seem to work out!0 -

It's parkrun Virtual Volunteer.
https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/parkrun-virtual-volunteer/id1309438300?mt=8
It does timing, and also parkrun barcode scanning (scanning the finish tokens and the personal barcodes).0 -
Re: Shin splints
A lot of times it is a signal about shoes but last week or so I had a run where I got shin splints. It wasn't the shoe. I hadn't been stretching much. I am super tight and definitely need to stretch more than I do. I started stretching, no more shin splints.6 -

Oh stretching is a must! That's my one big thing doing all this, stretches. I've actually taken up yoga during my lunch break to get more stretching in during the day1 -
0708-5.2k, total-12.4k, goal 90k
It was raining so waited a bit to head out. Wrong decision. The temps weren't bad but man it was muggy. In better news, the back didn't speak up until last bit. We're getting there.
@RunsOnEspresso saw your post and immediately started stretching6 -
11.01 km along the Riverbank trails. The wild Saskatoon's are just starting to ripen so there were a few stops to adjust the Berry Load on the Tree Branch's. Which explains why my fingers have a dark purple stain. Packing for 2 weeks of rough bush/tent camping with some mountain runs tossed in for Emperor's Challenge training. Bear spray attached to the outside of my Running Hydration pack and a spare canister inside a 2nd pocket. Especially after my GP Friends had a dance around a trail with a grizzly bear last weekend.

I was supposed to do an Xterra trail event this morning but it was over an hour's drive away, and as I was only doing the mid distance, about 10k, I couldn't really be bothered. This is where I need a dedicated running crew. I have never had a support crew and it doesn't bother me except for the long drive to an from events. I'll note that for next year when entering different races. Instead I went out for a nice long run around the neighbourhood - a few extra kilometres but a lot less mud and waaaaay fewer hills.
Running challenge

June Running Update
Week 1: 26.6
Wasn’t able to run on a beatific morning to get to 36+. Had a mild knee discomfort/stiffness at the beginning of a couple of runs earlier in the week and it compounded on my long run yesterday where I now have difficulty extending or bending the leg. Seems like runners or jumpers knee which has to do with patella tendon based on my self diagnosis and consultation with Dr Google. On a rest/ice/compression/elevation treatment plan and clearly no running to see if time will allow recovery. Pretty bummed. Hoping no more than a week or two. Will see doctor if it doesn’t improve in the next few days to confirm it isn’t anything worse. Seemed to come from no where....thinking a hard track workout may have been a initial culprit and I’m nearing useful life of my shoes which didn’t help minimize the issue as it really didn’t feel painful until after running 2 hours yesterday and only now causing real pain and discomfort10 -

I have now been on MFP for three years. My starting weight was 223 lbs. My original goal was to lose weight, until I hit normal BMI. I passed that by and just kept right on going till I found a range I was good with. My range is 125 lbs to 135 lbs. I started walking when I first started MFP. After about nine months, someone asked me if I was a runner. I adamantly stated 'no'. After that day I thought about what the lady had asked and thought, 'why not?' I started running in spurts, no plans, just repeat in my head, 'don't stop'. Now here, I am pushing goals I never thought I would ever achieve. I ran a marathon a few months ago, now I just want to run, no destination, no alarming goal, just get up, get out and run. I thank everyone here for all the help, I have learned so much in reading about everyone. Thank you so much for the inspirations, insights and the smiles that go with my miles.25
