I'm so glad you are feeling better about it now! I was thinking about you at one point when I was running on Saturday, wondering if you'd've felt better if you'd only done a half, and also trying to imagine how I would've felt if I had to do the whole marathon distance on trails like that. I would have finished, but it would not have been pretty.
Oh I’m glad I did the marathon. I was even glad I was doing a marathon at the time, even if I didn’t ‘enjoy’ every moment. It was just a day out with new friends. That happened to include some hills, a lot of heat, some difficult terrain, for 26 plus miles.
Oddly I recovered better than last years half, or other runs I’ve done which have affected my quads more.

@HeatherRivet - Welcome!0

Not yet run in July. Went to see my folks at the weekend and had a swim in the sea. All these years of being by the coast or even visiting and I’d never done that. I’ve missed out. A lot. It was fabulous. Not as cold as you might think. Very snotty though - certainly not a @HonuNui snorkel experience!!! (Although I’ve dived a lot of the U.K. - it’s pretty amazing and full of life, but not quite Hawaii...)
Today has been an odd day. Went to work to open up for a new worker, then went to a beautiful natural burial ground for the funeral of one of our long-standing self-employed stonemasons. Then back home to go to a lecture on cannibalism of all things.
Getting back into my morning routine means tomorrow is a run day - AND a crossfit barbell club day. Wednesday will be an ow-eee day.

Ack
Miss one day, have to catch up on ten pages.
I didn't run all weekend due to just utter laziness. But my vacation week starts today so I did run today. It's been crazy hot lately so hello treadmill.
3.6 miles today. My goal for this week is to run at least a little bit every day M-Sat.
As far as a July goal... I will make it my goal to be able to run 10k again by the end of the month.5 -

Beautiful winter's day here today. Perfect for running - cool, clear and crisp. Warm enough to shed my merino after a few kilometres and just run in a t-shirt and soak up the sun, but cold enough to keep the gloves on! I'm glad I went out early though as it seems the wind is starting to pick up.
Running challenge
1 July: 5.30 at 5:09 pace (race pace)
2 July: yoga
3 July: 7.01 at 5:45 pace
12.31 of 150km for July6 -

Bah. Starting July with a big fat 0. I planned to run when I got home after the heat of the day dropped a bit... but right now it is all thunder and lighting... last bolt the thunder was almost at the same time as the light, so storm is too close for comfort (before anyone asks, I have a battery powered laptop on a wireless network that is connected to a bank of UPSs )
Ah well, maybe this will break the heat wave...4 -
Can we do a Where in the World are you? I keep seeing others posting about it being winter and I wanna know my fellow winter runners are! I assume this gets done every month or so, but I'm new so please!
I'm in the Far North of New Zealand - called the winterless north, but it didn't feel that way last Saturday when it was 4 degrees Celsius outside. But to be fair to anyone further south, we are averaging about 10 degrees atm so I feel a bit bad about complaining...1 -

@Scott6255 @RunsOnEspresso It is 104 at 6pm here to. We need to have a southern summer runners PTSD group. I am sure the northern people here feel the same way about the winter months.4 -

It's definitely not winter here! I live in northern Virginia, about 15-20 miles from the swirling vortex of awful that is Washington, DC.

I'm in Auckland (New Zealand). @avidkeo I was up in the winterless north last weekend and can confirm that it does get winter - ok, a stunningly sunny and beautiful winter, but it was rather nippy in the morning. That being said, it was a balmy 20 degrees by midday so you really have no excuses at all!!2 -
I’m in the Kansas City, MO area where it’s hovering around 100F. It did drop down to like 86 yesterday though perfect for a run2

I’m in the middle of Georgia, the home of heat and humidity!3

July Running Totals (miles)
7/1 – rest day
7/2 – 5.11 not easy enough
July running total to date – 5.11
Nominal July mileage goal: 100 miles
Real goals: Get healthy. Build base. Work toward being able to run Wineglass in September.
Today's notes – Yesterday I felt healthy enough to run, but I stuck to the decision made on Saturday to treat it as a rest day. It was really hard not to go out for an easy 3 to 5 miles yesterday afternoon; but a temperature of 95º F (35º C) made it less hard.
This afternoon I had a PT appointment. Did the ultrasound thing on the Achilles, did the wobble board on both ankles, they felt symmetrical. Got told to go out, run, and don't let Denial outweigh Hypochondria.
So I got out to run about 5:15 PM. It had become overcast (yay!) and the temperature had fallen to 90º F (32º C). This is prime commute time, so I ran a windy route around residential streets in my neighborhod because I didn't feel like dealing with traffic. Got back to my driveway at not quite 4.5 miles, still felt good, and ran an out and back to get over 5 miles.
The idea was just to run easy, but I was a bit worked up over something that shouldn't really bother me, and I ran harder than I should. Average pace came in at 7:24 per mile, which would be marathon pace for me in near-perfect running weather. Oops. But it was only 5 miles, I don't really have to work hard tomorrow, and I'm pretty sure I got away with it.
The left Achilles felt totally normal. Before, during, and after running. Still need to be gradual building the mileage back up, but I'm optimistic this can be done. Probably still won't run a 4th of July race, but I could go take in the town's fireworks display and then run home when it's fairly cool.
Where in the World Response: I'm in the Rochester, NY metropolitan area. It's a great running community, and it's close enough to Boston to get a direct flight. A bit warm right now, but that's normal for July and August here. We'll make up for it in January and February.

Super hot day and I was dreading run group tonight, but then we had some thunderstorms roll through. The timing worked out almost perfectly. Got into the gym, started to pour, circuit training done, rain had stopped. Change and eat at home, started to pour, stopped before I headed out to the track and had cooled down quite a bit. Workout was a 30-minute tempo, and although it felt cooler I soon learned the humidity was still there in force. Toward the end there a was a bit of rain and at least a decent breeze, but we made it through without another soaking.
Wasn't my best tempo run due to legs being tired but I'll take it.
I'm in Syracuse NY.
