Hi Sisters,
Happy Birthday Kirby-you two are the happiest, best-matched couple!
It is grey again today but if it doesn't rain (too much) I've got a plan... Yesterday I hooked Daisy Duke (my van) up to the float (horse trailer) and took Lady (my rescue Arabian who had a terrible floating experience before I got her) for her first ride in my float. I loaded good old Mani first, leader of the herd. She was reassured by his presence and was very easy for me to load. I gave her grain and carrots in the float to make it her Happy Place. I took them for a drive to the end of the road and back (ten minutes) then unloaded her at home. She was good and loaded straight up when I asked her to get back on. So now I feel sure (well, as sure as I can be) that if I take her down to the beach I should be able to get her back on the float and home again. The good thing is that the beach is close enough that if things turn to custard I would be able to ride Mani and lead her back home in under two hours. Part of the road is dangerous though as I'd have to go on the main highway for about 20 mins. So anyway, I left the van and float hooked up and all I have to do is load Mani and Lady and GO, so I'm hoping for a successful beach ride today. It will be Lady's first time at the beach and crossing streams and bridges-always exciting and challenging!
That said, I better get a move on and do the morning chores, so I can leave in time for low tide. I find that having horses and a large garden and dogs are the best ways for me to get my exercise in. It is all part of my daily life so I don't even think of it as exercise. I never count what I eat because it would be impossible for me to figure out how many calories I need to burn off. I need lots because I use lots. I let my hunger tell me what I need. I am high carb! A vegan (99%) and I choose healthy food like raw pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, walnuts( from our two trees), fruit, salads, brocolli, celery, radish, parsley and greens from the garden, rice and beans, wholegrain toast, veggie pizza (that's what we had for dinner last night) and lots of mushroom gravy over roast veggies because that's what I like!
My focus is on eating for optimum health and longevity and keeping my body as strong and vital as I can. Everybody does things differently and I have tried many different things. Right now, this is working great for me.

Just got word that one of our best friends Mom's passed away this morning. It was not unexpected, but not expected this soon. Hubs is away so I will be heading north to St. Louis for a funeral soon. I am not looking forward to driving in St. Louis for the first time, heck I don't like to drive anyway let alone somewhere new when I'm alone. It will be too far from the airport to the church to just uber though. This makes me even happier that we made the effort to go up for her birthday year before last.

Ok, I took a long walk to the downtown part of Oak Harbor today!👍
I walked to a coffee place, and bought a double latte'. On the way I visited with the nice lady that runs the candy store. Then I went to a little gallery area, where inside there are a couple of small shops, a restaurant, and also a piano. So I played for about an hr! I chatted with a lady, who wants to meet up with me with her acoustic guitar. Sadly, she's a recovering alcoholic, smokes marijuana, and was kind of a strange bird, but I felt like she wanted to talk, so we talked. When she went into the restaurant, I received $1 from a Mom and son who had been listening to me. Then later, the strange lady came back out and have me $5. So I made $6! I was a fun way to make my coffee money back!
Called my husband at a hair salon in the way home. Got my hair cut a bit shorter for summer!
My youngest Navy son called from OS school, and he sounded really good! We laughef, and had a great chat!
So a good day. My husband is a bit down from dealing with a cold. His colds always start with a bang, and he sweats them out.
He drove around looking for me today. He had gone to Wendy's, but I am not sure if he was just waiting for me to walk by or what. I called him from the hair salon, but I felt bad he had gone out earlier looking. Next time I will bring his phone, so he won't worry. We spend 99% of our days together, so that 1% he is worried about me. You might think he is too over protective, but trust me, he has a right to be. But its sweet, and I will slant it more to that he cares, and not that he is a psycho! Haahaa!
Love

Hi Gals,
Machka – Like you – so happy to hear of the rescue with no additional lose of life!
Pip – he’s looking fine now! The reminder of what he went through…
Feeling a bit off the last few days, not sick, kinda just in the dumps, I know it is because many friends are off on fun vacations – or even day trips – and although I have all of you and some dear friends here, most are married/living with their significant human – truly the only single gals I know are over 80 (or in their 20’s)….nothing wrong with that but just at a different place in life. And only 3 of my friends would consider just taking off and doing something just us girls; and that would take a bunch of coordination so hubby had something for lunch and dinner ready in one case he would need to have plans too. Periodically I wish for a friend, or even better a date – but then realize there is no time or money to facilitate that so go back to being content with Levi… 4 paws, fur and un-conditional love….
Emily, my god-daughter arrives tomorrow; and I love being with her, but it’s not the same as a friend, just to begin with I pay for everything – she’s still in college (not working) and her folks while certainly able would not offer up any spending money. Never have – I remember years ago I took her to Disneyland (I paid for everything) for 4 days and her folks sent her with absolutely no money…I would have sent a kid of mine with enough money and instructions to take Auntie Kim out to dinner or lunch as a thank you; and spending money for her own souvenirs.
Truly it isn’t like she takes advantage, we eat in and take picnics – and she’s not demanding at all - When her brother got a job I started things like if we go out to eat instead of eating in I’ll buy dinner, but you buy the drinks…. It’s just not the same as hanging with friends.
Smiles

Tracy in Edmonton: The photos are lovely!
Meg: I'm glad you checked in with the group. :flowerforyou:
Heather: I'm sure your brother will be pleased and touched by your participation in his wedding vows renewal.
Wendy: Your plans for the trailer & beach ride with your horses are well thought out. I'll bet you and the "ponies" all have a good experience.
Rebecca: Congratulations on a very good day. Your DH seeems to be a great guy.
My cousin stopped by today along with his wife and a couple they are friends with. He brought me a memento from my grandmother's days running a coffee shop, and later a restaurant to support herself and her children. (My grandfather died early on when my dad was a young boy.) I got a mug and saucer. As a child growing up, my parents had some of these cups. I drank my first coffee in one of them at an early age as part of our morning routine. Picture it as a cup of milk with sugar and a little coffee in it. Today's gift brought back good memories and was a generous thing for my cousin to do.

Kim - Hugs!! I have very few local friends. I work from home and the first 3+ years we lived here I had a Dog that required a lot of care so I didn’t get out much. I can’t imagine the parents not sending spending money.
Katla - you made me remember my cousin trying to teach me to drink coffee when we were kids. She filled the coffee cup the same way. I hated it. I still don’t like coffee or milk.

Did Tony Horton’s 10 Minute Trainer DVD. There were about 5 sections so in total it was about an hour. Tomorrow we have a Newcomer general meeting, so the plan is to do a DVD on the bosu at home.
Ordered new water shoes. They should be delivered in a few days. If they don’t come in time for when I go to the next class, I’ll just use the ones I have. I think over time the elastic on the top gets stretched out, especially from the chlorine.
Happy Birthday Kirby!!! You’re one real lucky dog! Those hospital pics just give me a sick stomach.
Drcrn – welcome. I’m TRYING to avoid carbs, but my problem is that I love my vegeps and especially my fruit that I almost always go over.
Meg – so sorry for your friends
Vicki – when you said the ceramics place had more to choose from, do you mean different bisq or more colors of paints? Glad you had fun painting. To me, it’s somewhat relaxing. Somewhat? The problem comes in when I paint something and expect a different shade of the color and don’t get it. It’s also frustrating when you’re looking for a certain piece of bisq and can’t find it.
Exercised then went to Target to get some Tone It Up protein powder. This is the only powder that I’ve found that doesn’t contain any type of sweetener – artificial or otherwise. I usually add some cinnamon to it. Then went in the pool. Vince went to the dentist this a.m. He has shooting with the Newcomers tonight. I’ll probably stay home and work on putting the jewels on my latest ceramic “creation”
Okie – sorry to hear of your mom’s friend.
Put the rhinestones on my ceramic firefly. I’ll post a picture when the glue dries. Killed 4 more wasps. Boy, it seems they multiply overnight....lol

Happy Birthday to Kirby!
Kim, I sometimes wish I was single as I do have a few single friends that I don't see much simply because I can't just up and go somewhere or do something. Oh well, at least I've got a GOOD man to complain about! lol That is odd that the parents don't give your god daughter some spending money while she's with you. I would think that she would want some too. Certainly different!
Heather, sounds like the house thing is coming together, still keeping good thoughts for it to happen! Glad to hear that the weather wasn't quite as horrid as it was originally predicted and that you had a good visit with your friend.
Wendy, how nice that you were able to get your Lady on to the float. I'm sure it has a LOT to do with how you are treating her, trust goes a long way!
So very happy to hear about the boys and their coach getting rescued from that cave, what a huge relief that has to be for all concerned. Sad about the one SAR that died, but could have been so much worse!
So, have been getting some weird and not so wonderful numbers on the scale so decided that maybe it was time to change the battery. Bought a new one yesterday and this morning's wi was definitely better! And I got on the scale several times and got the same number every time, so that must have been the problem. Will be interesting to see what tomorrow's "official" number will be! I have been really good with the food and late night grazing the last few days, so I'm hopeful! In fact teeth are already brushed and it's not quite 7 p.m., so I'm happy about that. I did go over on calories today, but I also did some housework, vacuuming and folding laundry, and didn't count any of those calories against my eating, so as I didn't go over by much (less than 100), I'm fairly certain that I burned at least that many extra.
Really must go to bed earlier today also, I'm tired and would like to get up early enough to get my workout done and be home by mid - late morning, rather than early afternoon! My plan is then to do some yard work on some of the common property in our strata complex. Some weeding definitely needs doing. It's not bad, but easier to do it before it gets bad. Okay, that's it for me!
Welcome to the newbies, hugs for those who need them and congrats to those celebrating!

I got a call early this morning from my walking friend who just came home from Texas. She had been having pain, got a cat scan last night and had to go the hospital today for an ultrasound to see if the pain was her gall bladder. They told her not to drive to the hospital so I said I'd take her. She was extra anxious because her mother died last month from cancer in her gall bladder that spread to her liver. I delivered her to the hospital and waited until they determined that surgery was required. It was a long day of waiting. The doctor called me awhile ago to tell me that the surgery was successful, probably no cancer but they'll so a biopsy and that she has to have an endoscopy to search for gall stones that they couldn't get with the surgery. I can't believe how tired I am after sitting so much. I'll be available to pick her up tomorrow.

I know how you feel.
It seems like just about everyone I know went to Ireland this year and are busy posting great photos. I am happy for them and I like seeing the photos ... but I was supposed to be on a 3+ week trip to Canada right now, and of course, I'm not. Instead, I'm dealing with a million issues I never imagined I'd ever have to deal with, and there's absolutely no prospect of a holiday or break of any sort in the foreseeable future.
I just keep reminding myself that this is why I 'retired' for 3 months in 2004 and my husband and I 'retired' again for 8 months in 2012. Just in case something really bad happened and we weren't able to every 'retire' again. Well, here we are ... something really bad happened. Thank goodness we 'retired' earlier in life.
And I'm hoping I might get a day off in late August. Maybe.

Condolences to all who have lost friends, friends’ moms, and others near and dear to you.
Question for the low-carb followers: how low do you go? I was looking at one plan that was 20 or less grams per day. The sample meal plans called for 8 oz of meat at one meal and only 3 cups of veggies all day. I don’t think I can do it. No carrots, no caffeine, no fruit. It said you could have all the meat you wanted if you were still hungry. Just thinking about eating all that meat or eggs with no toast or grits makes me want to gag.
Report from second opinion. The PA checked me first. She thought my breasts were normal. The surgeon checked me next. He could tell exactly where the area of concern was, but said that he felt I just had very dense breasts. He said he could do a biopsy to satisfy my doctor but he recommended that I first try a round of Vitamin E and Evening Primrose to see if it would reduce any inflammation. I’m going back on Sept 10. If he can still feel the tender area, he will do a biopsy in his office. I picked up the supplements on the way home and took one of each with dinner.

HI Sisters, back from the beach. Lady was very, very good. The weather was crud! Sunny when I left, but down at the beach I got hailed on, blown to bits and rained on. The sun came out briefly and I took a few pics. Here, Mani is giving Lady advice: "The beach is a good place to visit, but don't drink the water!"
And here, Lady is tasting the sand. She loved pawing in it and galloping on it.
I tied her to a bit of driftwood so I could move back and take a decent photo of her. She was so funny. She tried to eat the moss on the driftwood.
Even though the weather was temperamental, everything else went well so now I am just putting covers on and doing a few chores before it's time to make dinner.
Barbara, you are a good friend to have. Hope your friend recovers quickly from her surgery. Wendy

Dr. Katiebug adding ginger, cinnamon, turmeric/pepper are good spices to add to your diet if you are trying to reduce inflammation naturally. Reducing sugar and refined grains also helps as does adding more fiber through fruits, veggies, and whole grains. That is the diet I am trying to follow. I have protein but try to make it grass fed for beef and cage free for chicken. Fish as long as is is not a bottom feeder. For dairy organic and grass fed. Cows are meant to eat grass when they eat grain and are fed antibiotics it sets up inflammation in them when we eat them we it adds to our inflammation. I stick to a single portion of protein. For fat I use avocado and coconut oil in moderation. I do allow myself some maple syrup and honey. I also still drink some Kombucha and non sugared yogurt for probiotics It is easier to follow this diet right now because the farmer market provides many of the veggies and some of the fruits I eat.
I started this diet at the end of May and have lost fifteen pounds. What I notice is my gum disease which is a sign of inflammation is clearing up. I also heal faster when I get a scrape.
What I notice is yes sometimes I miss some of the foods I used to eat, but what I notice is that after I eat now is I feel better and not sluggish like I used to. I know the foods I eat nourish. They are what I need to become healthy.
If your condition is due to inflammation making changes in your diet could make a tremendous difference. I think it is worth a try.
Staying up too late need to get to bed.

Okie: We all have different tastes. I love coffee, but not black tea. I love the herbal teas, though, especially peppermint.
Barbie: You are a good friend to take your neighbor to the hospital to get her gall bladder out. I had mine out years ago because I was having severe attacks of pain at night or if I ate anything fatty. You were able to help her get though with that and feel better by taking her to the hospital. :flowerforyou:
(((Machka)))
Dr.Katie: I am generally lower on carbs and higher on fat and protein. Today is 62% protein, 11% carbs, & 26% fat. Yesterday was 39% carbs, 35% protein & 26% fat. Every day is different. I choose foods that make me feel good and they tend to be higher in protein and fat. I wouldn't recommend this to everyone, but some of us thrive this way. It really works well for me. :flowerforyou: I second what Margaret had to say about the value of turmeric. (((HUGS)))
I had a good day today. My cousin came by and we had a nice meal together, and I went to a city meeting this evening. I'm almost ready to settle down for bed, but not quite yet. It is currently 11:55 PM.

I’m up early! I woke up and thought it was 3:50 so I thought I’ll try to sleep a bit more. I couldn’t go back to sleep so I got up. I looked at the clock while brushing my teeth (this time with my glasses on) and it was 3:20!! I was already wide awake so I put on my workout clothes and I think I’ll get my miles in now. I’ll get my lists made for what I need to do before I leave for the funeral and lay out my clothes I’ll need to pack. I have a great dress I haven’t been able to wear in 10 years that is actually a bit big but will work great. Won’t wrinkle in the bag and is comfortable.
Have a great day!

Hello, Ladies!
Re: Facebook... Never had it, Never will. Just don't see the need to let everybody know that I am darning socks, or watching TV... I don't think folks need to know every little detail of my life - and frankly - until recently, the idea of posting pictures of myself was horrifying. So, no - no Facebook for me.
Hugs to all the people faces losses.
Pip - Happy Belated Birthday to Kirby... those pictures of him all bunged up made me ache in sympathy. I am glad you posted the other pictures, too. You guys are too adorable.
Heather - Hugs for your DH. Tell him all the crazy ladies are thinking about him.
Wendy - glad you got your beach ride in, weather not withstanding.
Katie - when I was doing it, I had great success on Low Carb - but, I never stressed too hard about vegetable carbs. I just tried to get MOST of my carbs from veggies - green ones, Hon. Grits don't count. I ate a lot of eggs - with bacon and cheese. But, I ate a LOT of green leafy veggies with butter, too. I just tried to stay away from the high-sugar stuff like corn and carrots - and stick with broccoli, cabbage and that sort of thing. If you like corned beef and cabbage - as I do, it's greatness. You just don't get to eat too many potatoes. Alas, like you, I couldn't envision a life without toast - so... I didn't keep it up forever. But, when I want to change things up and shake my body out of a slump - I will still do a couple of days of low carb for the body-shock value. Generally, if 90% of your carbs are coming from vegetables - rather than the processed stuff like sugar and flour - you should be fine, even if you go over 20 grams a day.
Off to sleep, now. I have met one of the new trainer options, today. Saturday I have a solo workout with him. We will see if we get along, then.
Hugs for Everybody!

Good morning!
I have a hair full of hair dye! Got to wait 25 minutes.
DH posted a real letter to the widow yesterday. He hasn't shown it to me. Don’t know if he doesn't want me to see it, or is expecting me to ask. I will ask him.
Cleaner and boiler man coming this pm. It's the same boiler man we've always had and he has great customer rapport. He will get a nice cup of tea. Going to write a nice wooden heart label for the cleaner to go on the jam.
Yesterday a neighbour up the road put out zucchini for anyone to take, so we grabbed a few. Going to use them for dinner with prawns and homemade pesto. Tagliatelle for DH and shiritaki noodles for me.
I'm mainly low simple carbs, but not rigid. I eat healthily with little sugar and loads of veg and fruit. It suits me fine and is great for gut health. I suppose it would be called Mediterranean, but with less bread. The important thing for me is to exercise enough so I can eat a lot. Good food is a passion. Not into self denial. Luckily I have never had a sweet tooth though I do like a couple of squares of 70% plain chocolate last thing - 100 cals.
Had another delivery of AF wine today. Now I have red, white and pink that I really like, plus loads of AF cocktails and beers. Wonderful. It's made a huge difference to my life. I just wish restaurants and pubs would up their game. The only one that does my delicious Seedlip drink is Pizza Express. I learnt there to put fresh mint in it. Heaven!

Morning Ladies~
I went to the Mr Rogers movie.. outstanding..... he was a true pioneer of feelings of children, like adults, children have feelings too and he knew just how to talk with them..our grandchildren would have learned alot from him, this generation of kids is off the chain.. I try and live my life being kind to both children and adults I am empathetic to both, I try not to judge a book by its cover..and you never know what someone is going through..
found out from Tom this morning a friend of mine passed away.. she found out she had stomach cancer that had spread and she lasted maybe 2 months.. Tom is good friends with her husband, and I am glad Tom has been there as a sounding board and friend to Bob..
I have the test tomorrow for dental xray exam.. I have studied ,but it is all bobbled in my head, all I can do is the best I can and hope for the best ... and between this , and lawyer stuff for my dads I am going a bit bonkers...
Kim~I have been blessed with some dear friends and being single has let me feel the freedom. I cant afford any vacations either.. still trying to figure out my budget now that I own the condo... between insurance and mortgage and condo fees that is it, I lie low... but do set aside enough to do something fun once in awhile...4 -

Margaret - I was going to respond to Katiebug in a similar fashion. That's pretty much Mosley's guidance his 8 Week Blood Sugar Diet book.
Some folks do well cutting carbs way back, but I am not one of them either. I like this more moderate approach. Where did you get the plan you are following?
I am so glad you are having such good results - not only on the scale, but in general better health!
