Meg (((hugs))) to your best friend.
Rita good luck with NO SWEETS AT ALL, :noway:
Okie those St. Louis highways are narrow, the drivers go real fast and the exit you want is always from the left when you're in the right lane. Good luck!
Barbie you are so active it must have been very hard to sit and wait all day. Hoping your friend's biopsy comes out clear.
Wendy love the pics, Lady is one lucky horse.
Machka love the exahausting=most relaxing meme.
Welcome drcrn! Can you tolerate dairy? soy?
Back on track yesterday... and it feels soooo good!
Enjoy the day, revel in every moment!

Can't wait for the match tonight, although not normally a footie fan I'm loving this England team. Will probably be watching behind a cushion as I'm not too good with tension just hope they get through to the final. We English deserve some good news with all the c***p our politicians are putting us through. Sorry for slightly political rant
Centenery of RAF this year, wonderful fly past over Buckingham Palace yesterday, quite emotional and made me proud, although anti war
More politics, sorry but feel it needs saying, feel free to skip it
Want to say (sorry bit more political stuff) DH and I think that flying a blimp of USA president is disgusting, rude and totally disrespectful, seems a lot of people here don't remember or choose not to, the debt we owe to USA who lost so many service personnel, to enable us to have free speech.

Did another HUGE purge of typescripts this afternoon. Oooffff! It was really exhausting - paper is so very heavy! Plus I got brain ache trying to ensure I had one copy of each novel, story or play and wasn't throwing away the only, or revised, version.
Nice big box in the recycling.
Still got masses more to purge, but that's two huge boxes fewer to take to the new house.
Don’t want to lose important stuff, but don't want endless duplications.
I also did a bit of work on my speech for Saturday and read the poem aloud a couple of times.
DH had his hair cut and bought green grocery items.
Still waiting for the boiler man.

Lanette what got me going was I was at the top of my weight. I get to that point and I know I have to do something. The basics of the diet is from a book I read BrightLine eating. I did decide to keep Kombucha in my diet. It was off her list. The author had given up sugar as much as possible and refined grains. She goes a step further and weighs everything she eats. I do not do that because I have a good idea what a serving size of protein and fats should be. It was too obsessive compulsive for me. It works for her so I say go for it in her case.
I also read the book The Microbiome Solution and the diet in their is also similar. It is the fruits and veggies that promote a healthy gut. It is also why I decided to keep Kombucha in my diet for a probiotic. That book got me thinking about the effects of antibiotics and cleaning agents that kill off bacteria. Your bacteria in your gut determines how well your food digests and how you absorb nutrients.
The book that was the most inspiring for me to try to get sugar out of my diet was the Case Against Sugar. There was a lot of history in the book and some repetition. The most fascinating part to me was how big business tied to sugar and other sugars that sweeten our food worked so hard and still do to convince us that sugar is okay to have in our diet. The history of how sugared cereal came to be I found sad. Their reasoning was those who ate cereal were putting on teaspoons of sugar anyway and if we don't do it we will not be able to compete. They also marketed these cereals to children during Saturday morning cartoons. I remember this. The founders of the cereal movement Kellogg and Post would be turning in their graves. They invented cereal to be a health food.
As I read labels I see how much sugar is in almost everything. Sugar is not much better than High fructose corn syrup. Sugar is 50-50 sucrose to fructose. High fructose corn syrup is 45-55 sucrose to fructose. The problem is neither have the fiber or nutrients to add anything to your health and they both create an insulin release that makes it difficult to manage blood sugar levels. In other words it makes it more difficult for your body and mood to stay on an even keel. Too much insulin sets you up for diabetes, cancer, and gaining weight especially in the belly. Unfortunately refined grains have a similar effect.
I still have a way to go I do not expect this weight to drop off in a day or even a month. I just want to keep seeing progress. I have also dropped 2 inches off my waist since I started eating like this.
I wrote this out to help me stay on track. If you find it helpful I think that is great. If you find another diet works better for you I say go for it. What and how you eat is a personal decision and you know your body best.
My closing comment is what ever you eat the question to ask does this food nourish me. As much as I made a case against sugar I do see times when people are brought together in celebration and sharing food is an important part of that. What I am trying to say is the people are more important than the food and an occasional slip is not going to destroy my progress.

yo peeps, they let a cs rep (what i do) go yesterday. guess it was attendance issues. if they thought we were busy b4, well, letting one go is not gonna help any. i don't have that issue, i'm here before the bosses are because of my riding and getting here early all the time.9

Good morning ladies! I took my daughter to the doctors yesterday. Her doctor told her that her cysts are shrinking a little in size so the antibiotic is working. They are taking the pic line out today. She will be on oral antibiotics for the next couple weeks. Then she will be reevaluated to see about surgery! So that sounds positive so far. Thanks for the prayers and well wishes sent her way.
Facebook - I love it for immediate family and friends. It's nice to be able to view pictures of their special events. I don't follow some people because they post too much junk but my kids usually just post pictures.
Have a great day everyone!

Re in TX: It is good to see you posting here. :flowerforyou:
Heather: Your neighbor giving away zucchini reminds me a bit of me in the past. I used to drop them off on neighbor's doorsteps in the night. That was long ago and far away.
Allie: I've always admired Fred Rogers. I didn't know there is a movie. :flowerforyou:
Machka: I'm glad you can cycle. It is excellent exercise and you love it. Win, Win!
Kate UK: You are not alone in being disgusted by our President. Our political choices last go round were Cruella DeVille and Simon La Gree. YUCK! :grumble:
Margaret: I'm glad you've found an eating plan that allows you to feel your best. I have, too, although my plan is not very much like yours. We need to pay attention to how we feel after our meals and choose things that leave us feeling good and energetic.
Pip: I'm guessing that you're a top employee. I hope they let you know that you're valued. Too many businesses don't do a good job with that. :flowerforyou:
Our dog goes to the groomer today, and I'm going to walk him up there. We jsut have him combed out and his nails done. DH will pick him up after he's been groomed. It isn't a long walk but it is long enough to get my metabolism kicked into gear.

@drkatiebug There are dozens of versions of the ketogenic diet. The benefits to being in Ketosis is lack of hunger and cravings. The key to getting into Ketosis is to limit carbs. The carb limit to remain in Ketosis can vary for everyone. Strict Keto calls for carbs to be limited to 20 total carbs per day, 7 carbs per meal. A looser version is 20 net carbs per day. Net carbs are calculated by deducting the fiber from vegetables. Most people can remain in Ketosis at 50-100 carbs. Ketosis is a state where your body is burning fat for fuel rather than glucose. Berries are the only fruit that would be included. Avoid sugar, grains and starchy vegetables.
Keto is low carb, moderate protein and fat. 8 oz of protein at one meal seems extreme. The guidelines include eating to hunger and stopping when satisfied.
A good resource for how the Keto diet works for weight loss is the book by Gary Taubes, “Why We Get Fat and What to do About it”. A recent documentary is “The Magic Pill”.
I have followed the Keto plan since Sept 2016, going from size 14 to size 0-2 (I am 4’11”). This is the longest I have maintained a 60 lb weight loss. I had a huge sweet tooth and could eat sweets over food all day.
Any food can be adapted to Keto. I have made biscuits, muffins, pizza, and homemade ice cream. I use almond flour, whey protein isolate, oat fiber (insoluble fiber that is not included in carb count) and erythritol, stevia, and xylitol for sugar substitutes. Sugar alcohols can also be a excluded from carb count.
As Keto has become more popular there are more and more processed foods labeled as Keto. I avoid these.
Hope you find this helpful.

KATLA sorry I didn't say your president was disgusting, I was commenting on the plan to display a blimp above London ridiculing him. Disrespectful to the office of president rather than the man, not really sure what I think of him.

I am attaching a picture of a Dutch Baby pancake that I made yesterday for breakfasts this week. I have it with fresh blueberries. The recipe is included in the recently released cookbook pictured.

Cathy Arlington TX- so nice to see you posting again! You have made fantastic progress! Great advice on the keto way of eating. I have to check that book out.

Sorry y'all, I lost the thread. Sheesh! But I did manage one of my goals, for the first time in 67 years (that I know of, it might have happened when I was a babe and I just didn't know about it! lol). My birthday was 7-5, last Thursday. We went out for dinner on Saturday to celebrate, with a delish dinner at Longhorn Steak House. AND I LOST WEIGHT! All I wanted to was not GAIN weight, but I actually lost .5 pound the next day. Right now, I'm down by 6 pounds since last Thursday. lol NOT good. I don't have that much to lose to be dropping that quickly, so now going to start eating a few of my exercise calories, try to get my energy lvl's back.
Ok, I have to try to keep up with the chat MUCH better than I have been managing, summer is just such a busy time for me, SOOO much yard work down here in FL, I swear, you can actually SEE the grass grow!
@clowe1028 omg, that looks GOOD! I've never even heard of that before, Dutch Baby pancake!
@ Katla49 any extra movement is a good thing, so walking your dog to the groomers is good for BOTH of you. You GO girl!
@fanncy0626 great news on your daughter!
@pipcd34 glad you don't have to worry about your job, but sorry your work load has increased!

Katie Yes. What Cathy Arlington TX said.
For most of us, 50-60g of protein a day is plenty. And you don't have to restrict carbs to 20g to benefit from low carb.
It comes down to high fat, adequate protein, and low-ish carb - very beneficial for insulin resistant people.
Other people do well on a high carb diet, or something inbetween. CICO is most important to weight loss.
Karen in Virginia2 -
I should have added if you are not used to a lot of fiber in your diet to add it slowly it can be hard to digest if you try to add to much too soon.1

Thank you Margaret and Cathy and everyone else eating lower carb for sharing your stories. I used to think that to be successful with it, a person needs to do Atkins, but good to know that even cutting out added sugar and simple starches helps immensely.
My doc visit yesterday went well - fasting blood sugar was high when I took it first thing in the morning - 10 hr since last meal - but had blood drawn at 16 hours of no food so it had better be under 100, lol. She is testing the A1C to see if my sugar and cookie binges have really zapped me.
A good thing - I asked her if losing 5 lbs of belly fat would help the situation, since I'm at the top of the BMI for my height. She said since I do strength training and have been building muscle, the BMI isn't that accurate in my case. And it's good I'm building muscle because that's what burns glucose.
When I was out doing my Strong Women Stay Young this morning, I thought about that a lot and marveled that 20 minutes three times a week has had such a good impact on my health.
Mary - glad your daughter is getting better...whew!
Kate, appreciate your good thoughts about the US and your respect for the position of President. No matter who is in office, there will always be protestors. Seems our parents generation, and our own to some extent, remember what was at stake during WWII.
I found out the hard way to keep my opinions of whoever is in office to close friends. History has been good at making me look foolish for the past few decades, lol. I now say there's always something going on behind the scenes when the bigwigs get together and I believe in prayer! How's that for bending the rule of about discussing politics and religion all in one paragraph?
Wendy - love those horse pictures and wish I could be on the beach with you, my favorite place to be in the winter. Also you have the perfect eating plan for you - isn't that great? I always enjoy hearing what you are eating. Glad you got the doc to order progesterone cream, I've read Lee's book and was actually using progesterone (Emerita) during the final years before menopause. Did it help? Not sure, possibly, but my symptoms could have been much worse so I think it did.
Rebecca - I liked hearing about your walk in Oak Harbor, such a neat town! Getting to know everyone. Hopefully your DH will relax when you are out enjoying yourself and making friends. And $6!! Do you ever hear anything about your neighbor back in Oregon? I think it was Prudence? Didn't she end up in assisted living? Stretching my brain here, lol.
Barbie - you were such an angel to take your friend to the hospital like that. You are on the move so much during the day, I'll bet you did get antsy! Hope she's OK.
Lisa - love your blog this morning, so informative!!! Hopefully not closing on a house for a long, long time but I'm saving this information just in case. Did anyone ever tell you that you should be a writer? LOL
Heather - good job with the continuing cleanout! Hope the boiler man makes it soon. Sorry to hear about your DH's friend, what a nice gesture to write a letter to his wife. Hugs all around.
OK better close now and get something done.

I'm not watching the football. I'm happy for those that follow these things to enjoy it, but I have very little interest.
DH has gone upstairs to watch it. Don’t think next door are having a party this time, they seem to have gone out to some other house to watch.
It would take far too long to explain what I feel about identifying with a bunch of footballers. Or what I feel about the idea of "nationhood". Let's just say I am an outrider on all this. Nor do I want to go into how I feel about the RAF flypast. Again. I am an outrider. There are so many things I don't support that most people take for granted. Of course, there are many things I do support, mainly ideas and ideals. It's quite tiring being me. I have to question everything and make sure there is a good, rational argument to support it. Very tiring. But I am fervent about the values I believe in.
I think England have scored! Next door seem to be there after all!

Kate UK- I, personally, am not offended by the balloon. I figure, other countries are going to call it like they see it. And I LOVE that about other countries. A different perspective is a good thing. For everybody. And every overinflated ego. that's all I will say (politically)! KJ2

to them, no, i take too long and thats due to being detail oriented which is what slows me down. so i am lowering my expectations to meet theirs which has speeded me up a bit... i have only had one time where i was off in all the time i've been here and thats when i broke my shoulder. other than that, its been planned/scheduled days off3 -

Kate UK It's better to be disgusted by an offensive message than it is to quash expression of the offensive message. I applaud Freedom of Speech and the countries who protect it. It is one of our most important rights.2

Hello Ladies, new to My Fitness Pal. Only here two days and still figuring things out. I would love to lose 60 pounds and then go from there. My goal the first month is 5 pounds, I want to do this right, slowly so I don't put it back on. I'm incorporating the Plexus with this site and It's going pretty good. I started Plexus over 2 weeks ago and loving it. I look forward to our conversations and comments.

To all the new ones to the thread, welcome! We're glad you're here... as some of you have noted, just tell us what you'd like to be called, and some basic geography, and help us get to know you.
Lanette - Glad you liked this morning's post. I figure if someone who's on their fifth (and hopefully final!) house purchase can be confused, and I am on occasion, then others might find some clarification handy. This may be overweening pride on my part...
Pip - I'm sorry you're in that place where you aren't valued as you should be. Sorry I missed Kirby's birthday, too! Hope it was grand.
Heather and all who are discussing national values, freedom of speech, right to protest, etc. - I can only speak for myself. I think peaceful expression should be protected, and raised my right hand to defend those rights a century or so ago. I was a mere child when I went in the military and said, "I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic," I meant every word. Still do. I might point out that the framers of the Constitution did not believe that all enemies come from other countries. I know we agreed in this group that politics and religion are off limits, and my apologies for the violation. I just see it as a much bigger question than politics.
I rewrote that like six times, and am still not sure I said it in a way that won't cause offense. Again, I'm only speaking for myself.
Love y'all,
As always,
Lisa in Arkansas12 -
This is awesome! Just starting here, and checking this group out. I’m in serious need of some motivation, since I have around 70 lbs to lose to be at my best. I was on WW for many years, and the current program isn’t working well for me ☹️ Lost 30 lbs, only to gain it back.5
