    @grebber1 My older daughter started keto on Jan. 1. I had told her to start cutting carbs about 2 weeks before but she didn’t. She experienced “Keto flu” at work on day 2. Not good! The gal who first told me about keto suggested 5% carbs, 20% protein, and 75% fat. It seems to be a good starting point. Best of luck!

    @SheilaBoneham, Aww😔 Cutting wheat, milk and sugar, you will definitely notice changes in a week's time. I can tell you though, after being without wheat for about 6 months, you may be able to tolerate a muffin once in a while.

    @L2HS, Congrats! for breaking up
    with your X

    @puttyputty, I hope you are feeling better soon. I have sinus problems too.

    @3DCAKE, LOL, You got that right!

    @quiltingjaine, You are so right about bread not tasting good anymore. As a matter of fact, I have gained many insights on a few of the food products I had been eating before keto. They all are tasteless, taste rancid, too sweet and the salt used in them does not provide flavor enhancement.

    @tiabirdie56 Isn’t it interesting how our crummy eating affected our taste buds and created a desire to continue eating the crap?

    @quiltingjaine, I agree cutting carbs first helps tremendously. That's exactly what I did before starting intermittent fasting. IF gets your blood sugar under control and puts you in a mild ketosis. I did not experience keto flu, went into ketosis right away and became fat adapted within 2 weeks.

    @grebber1, When you only look at calories consumed and calories burned, you only get part of your nutrition picture. I've been on MFP since 2011 and NEVER considered trying to understand my macros as long as CICO was recorded. Then, FINALLY last year I took a hard look at my carbohydrate allowance. It was ridiculous, 170 something grams! That's when I decided to cut carbs and learn about macros.

    @quiltingjaine, Yes. Also very interesting is how we are all brainwashed to thinking that if we just limit those offending foods, we will lose weight and keep it off. Not, or as my DGD says, "No, Can't"

    @tiabirdie56 thank you! That would have been a rather sudden gain ....

    I am fascinated by keto/low-carb lifestyle and should study up a little on it just so I can partake in the conversations both here and when people ask what I did to lose weight. most of the carbs I eat come from veggies. the rest of them seem to be eaten as a tool to deliver protein (buns, chips, tortilla shells) and to be honest I cant justify eating most of them because they seem to be high in calories. that is why I make triple burgers and double/triple stuffed snacks. this is just a comment and not advice in any way. I am not smart enough to advise.

    @tiabirdie56 that's exactly what I'm talkng about. I couldn't believe how many grams of carbs I was taking in. Sure I'm better off then I was when I was just eating everything in sight.
    This time around I'm trying to learn more about foods, Macros, the whole nine yards. I simply can't lose weight to the point I want to be at and stay there being ignorant about nutrition. Which I am but working on it and I feel better about losing weight this time because I'm taking the time to educate myself while I'm doing it.

    I’m curious about where everyone is and what your high temperatures are. I live in the desert SW - Las Vegas, and the temperature this morning at 5:30AM was 91*F with anticipated high of only 109 today.
    7/30 133.5 Water fitness was great!

    With LV temperatures it is great that you are able to do water fitness. Our heat wave has ended and we are back to cooler temperatures. Yes it was a bit humid but mostly it is just lack of anyone here on the West Coast of Canada being used to the heat. No AC most homes.
