@PastorVincent Nice! I only have one pair with that many miles...0

Hey wow it's 130pm here and I've managed 20k steps! That's all because of this mornings crazy run.
I went out intending to do 7-8km depending how I felt. I got to 5k and felt great. Was just ticking along doing around 5:45 min/km. So decided, yep 8k it it. Got to the 8k mark and my time was 46 min something, and it was only 630am so I decided what's another 2k. I stepped up the pace and flew through the last 2k at about 5:25 min/km and did 10k! And I beat my PB by 1 second haha. Not bad for an unintentional 10k. Made up for the weekends pathetic (for me) 7.
It was a really foggy morning again and lots of idiots were driving past with their high beams on! One point the fog was so thick, and my glasses had joined in (didn't think to do any of the tricks you all posted cause it wasn't foggy when I started...) I couldn't see a thing! Took them off after nearly falling sideways into a gutter sigh.
And just now I did a gentle lunchtime stroll. I've been going for a walk at lunchtime for so long now it feels wrong if I don't!
Goal 140km
1 Aug - rest - 0km
2 Aug - 8km - 8km
3 Aug - 7km - 15km
4 Aug - rest - 15km
5 Aug - 5km - 20km
6 Aug - 10km - 30km11 -
@Avidkeo Great job on that 8k!
I walk 5k almost every weekday at lunch, even on days I run many miles. I just can not comfortably sit in the office and start at the screen all that time and NOT get out and move around. Go stir crazy on bad weather days.4 -
@KeepRunningFatboy You have that bike race coming up soon.... you ready?1
-
No run tonight. Had 13miles planed, but a 15 minute car thing turned into over 2 hours and a couple trips to stores. *sigh*6
-
Had 12 miles planned, but ended up with only 8.24. It was raining, which is discouraging. Also, I am getting super bored running in my little town and need some new places to run that are very close so I don't have to travel 2 hrs. each way like I do for weekend runs. Also, I am thinking I should cut back on the mileage increases briefly and give my body a chance to catch up. Yea... it was that kind of day.

0806-5.3k, total-5.3k, goal-80.5k
First run of the month! It felt like a tempo, but Garmin says it was not so. Ah well.
Re: critters, we don't have the option of carrying, so we attach cowbells to our backpacks on trail runs. Highly annoying but seems to be useful. The worst encounters I have heard of are wasps (can't shoot or pepper spray those unfortunately) and stray dogs. One friend once chased away four dogs at once, waving around his running poles and yelling like a caveman. He's a big guy - I probably would've just given up.
Upcoming races:
20181027 Mogan Ultra 30k
20181118 Shanghai Marathon (maybe)6 -

lol yep you got it. my job is pretty varied but still a long time standing at a desk (yes, I have a standing desk lol). I also do postgraduate study so anytime away from the computer is good time.1 -
Re: bear spray. I bought some to carry when I was running in the mountains and then proceeded to leave it in the car every time. Had second thoughts when I was running through a berry patch. I mentioned it to my cousin a couple days later (she's a bear safety coordinator) and she said that area is normally full of bears...
When I signed my life away to buy the stuff I had to acknowledge I couldn't legally use it against people or domestic animals (in Canada).
@sarahthes Yes I had to sign my life away also. Be very careful with Bear spray in vehicles.
Some local Fish and Wildlife officers left there secondary cans in their vehicle and in the heat it over-pressured and discharged inside the vehicle. The vehicle was declared a total loss as it could not be cleaned out of the heating - air conditioning ducts. For transport in a vehicle I store mine upside down in a sealed container filled with water.
Saturday morning run before heading out for August long Weekend family fun.
12 km Judah Hill climb and extended out on Hwy 744 another 3 km to give 6 km outbound. A tough climb of 255m out of the valley then a few flat km for distance on tired climbing legs. The reward - a downhill speed session. For me this hill is a little to steep and I feel uncomfortable any time I try to go all out on the descent. Still managed to get the downhill 3 km in at 5:38, 5:35 and 5:38 per km which felt decent on tired legs. Technically I am in Taper for my Emperors Challenge HM on saturday. I just feel the need to go hit Judah Hill or Misery Mountain one more time for a little extra hill work.

Yeah, during the day I am a software developer... at night I am a published author... and all the times in between I am doing research for the classes I teach, and the sermons I give. I get A LOT of screen time.
So I feel ya...2 -

I run in Nike Dry Fit, or Under Armor heat socks gear during the summer.
When it turns cold, I switch to Darn Tough wool socks. I hear good things about Smart Wool also but have not tried them myself.1 -

Glad you decided set a goal. This is my first "challenge" on MFP, but I do do one yearly challenge to raise money for Relay For Life. This month, my goal is 59 miles, because I turned 59 this past Saturday. Usually I set my goal for 50 miles and have a hard time meeting that, so this is truly a challenge for me. I too am trying to add in more running. My ultimate goal is to get ready to run a 10K when I turn 60 next year...the same one I ran when I turned 50, but I want to better my time.

You want June for the last sock conversation I think, starting with My Very First Blister. I ended up buying some Under Armor socks as recommended by @PastorVincent and they’ve been great so far, although I haven’t tried them for a run over 4 miles yet. For my longer runs I’ve been wearing Wrightsocks but they do give me the occasional case of hot foot so I plan to try the thinner Under Armor ones on my long run this weekend. I haven’t had a second blister yet, though!3 -
So @#$&! HOT this morning. So tired of this weather. Took it slow, but still felt hard. Had negative splits from 1-4, then purposely backed off on mile 5 to see if I would feel more energy. I think it helped. Backing off :20/mile for mile 5 allowed me to run the last mile about 40 seconds faster, and not feeling wiped. Need to
keep playing with pace to see where it feels comfortable.

New to running so at the end of August i want to run 5k. I know it doesn't sound much but I'm more of a couch potatoe so this month its low but later months I may up the mileage.12
-
I'm scheduled for 3.5 today but that will not be happening. I forgot that I'm manning the lib booth at National Night Out. Sitting out in the heat. Fun. It'll be cool enough to run when I get home, but way too late for me to feel comfortable running.1

Thanks previously I lost four stone for my sister'e wedding last year but after the wedding the weight came back on and last week I had gone back to losing 3 stone here's to another 3 stone to lose.5 -

You might want to check out one of the many "Couch to 5k" programs that are out there to help you make your 5k target.4 -
Intervals this morning, C25K W2D3 for times. 3.01 miles for 19.04/55 per endomondo so far this month. Just a quick loop through the local park from the wellness center.PastorVincent wrote: »hayleymace90 wrote: »New to running so at the end of August i want to run 5k. ETA: That program is what got me started on this weight loss journey over 5 years ago. I love that program even now for interval/speed work because I can jog on the "walk" sections and kick it on the "run" sections.3 -

@LaDispute57 the key to that race is how many donuts one can eat, and the find the bonus donuts at the last stop.

@Scott6255, hear you on being so tired of the weather. It's the humidity that's killing me, as it was actually quite a bit cooler this morning. But I'm so tired of how disgustingly sweaty I get and feeling like I'm running through liquid.
@hayleymace90 a 5k is an excellent accomplishment! Congrats on your weight loss progress and welcome!

ugh that was soup. the good news i feel like if i keep running in this heavy air, my lungs will be stronger.
speed demon speeded herself out too. and just soaked and rolled in the pool when we got home. i'll have to be careful with her on the longer runs
also new foster can't come run yet with me. his neuter looks to be half done. or something went wrong. the previous shelter did. so he is on forced rest. which is fine because he is terrified of everything right now. can' wait to take him for little runs to build confidence
old gal tweeked her hip after a previous run so she's resting, and i'll probably only take her on the shorter runs. she's a spry 11 but she's still eleven. so she was sulking when we got home.

Another day - another run. Apparently, I'm running 5 days a week now. We'll see how I fair. Going to take it easy on my new day, and slowly transition into it.
I see I'm not really going to be able to keep up with all the chatter in this thread LOL. Woke up this morning, and there were another 3 pages I missed! But I still will try as best possible to go back and re-read at some point during the day.5 -
