Sometimes I run on the mill even when it's perfectly nice outside. Why? Fewer people in my house than out in the real world.
I am a hardcore agoraphobic. It takes quite the effort to get my butt outside. And what happens the first time I run outside in a long time? I aggravate my hip bursitis again. Nope, them there outdoors can't be trusted.
Edit: Actually, the real reason I probably busted my hip was because I ran too long, too soon.7 -
Not going to set a running mileage goal but decided to follow the thread since this is the only “social” app I have on my phone and I use the word social very lightly lol. Hoping that next month I get some actual answers to my knee issue. Finally went to the doctor last week and when I explained my knee pain she stated I most likely had arthritis, without even examining me and then proceeded to call me an alcoholic and a drug addict. Had she taken the time to read my chart she would have seen I was diagnosed with pancreatitis when I was 19 so clearly I don’t drink. Needless to say when I tried to file a complaint with them I got nowhere. Thankfully I was able to change my insurance and I’ll be seeing a new doctor next week. That being said, I plan on walking 1-2 hours a day on top of going back to school full time. Not sure how I’m going to do it all as my school starts 2 weeks before the little one starts but as Theodore Roosevelt said “ With self-discipline, all things are possible”14

Hmmm, maybe didn’t want to dodge kids and bikes, get chased by dogs, step in that stupid gum or have to slow down and be courteous to that nice older couple holding hands taking up the whole path or the toddler trying to tie his shoe while the family stops to encourage him but again, blocking the whole path just in the spot where there is no out around.
On perfect days there are tons of people and all their toys out on running paths Lol

Hi I'm in for 350 km. Didn't quite make it to goal last month but I'll continue to aim for it.

Hot and humid August beckons, and a week of on-call support at the end of it, so I'm putting myself down for 250 miles again. I reckon I should still make it, as I'll be upping the mileage a little with longer Friday runs.6

@AlphaHowls honestly I'm not sure I drove 500 miles in July! My hat, if I wore one, would be off to you. Amazing!
Yeah to seeing new faces and the return of old...well not old faces, but faces from the past.
As a side...Skip is alternating between a 4 and 5 drop shoe when running now and she is like wow I love it. Good advice I got for her to do that. Her PT appointment today went great. She said she didn't cry once, which is good since she was crying mighty good last week. She did a 3 mile run this morning at a 8:40 pace so she's very happy to be on the mend.11 -
Beginner marathon training is ramping up... goal for this month is 175.... but it’s August... in the south so it’s an optimistic goal.

I got close to 75m last month, so I'm going to shoot for that goal again in August. What is different this month is that I've drafted a running schedule that hopefully will help me achieve that 75.
I have a pretty serious case of race envy. So I'm thinking of looking for a small race somewhere in Nov-Jan. I'm not seeing much going on in Berks County so I'll probably have to look closer to Philly.8 -
I am in for 25 miles. I need a goal to stay motivated through the August heat.13

Welcome to all of the new people joining the monthly challenge. Great to have you. There is a lot of good support here, which many of us are going to need these hot and humid days of August.
I agonize about setting my goal every month, especially now that marathon training is ramping up. Just 12 weeks to go! The last two months I did 127 miles and 145 miles, so I'm going to guesstimate 160 miles. That may be ambitious?
I have two races in August. The first is purely a fun destination race on Cape Cod with a bunch of running friends. I'm super excited about that. The other is an 18-miler, so that means I have to at least get up to that mileage this month! My distance PR is currently 14.2 miles. Scary!

Careful Pastor my dad used to complain about runners who ran listening to music. He couldn't understand why they wouldn't want to just hear the sounds of nature and enjoy the peace.5 -
Thanks to tropical holidays and pre-half taper I’m lowering my target for this month. I’m guessing about 120km... my main goal for August is to get a good tan, oh yeah, and maybe run a sub-1:50:00 half on the 25th!!7

The difference is that we are talking about a dreadmill where you run in place in a cloud of CO2... it is just hard for me to understanding choosing that. Sure I do it when outside is horrid... but the park was essentially empty and peaceful and had AIR. You know, like Oxygen?

I'm new to your challenges. I am turning 59 on Aug 4th, so my goal is going to be 59 miles! My want to be consistent and be ready to run a 10K on my 60th birthday...the same one I ran on my 50th birthday, but only better!15

Okay, I don't know why people run on the dreadmill when it's really nice outside. The most striking case I saw was in Tallahassee, when I came into the hotel after running in gorgeous 62º weather, and saw a guy running on the dreadmill in the hotel fitness center. WTF? To be fair, Tallahassee is hilly (as Florida goes) and to get a mile run from the hotel without crossing a major street you'd go down and back up a little hill; so maybe he was afraid of hills? (Not that @PastorVincent would recognize what I ran up and down next to that hotel as a hill.)5 -
July, I set a nominal goal of 100 miles and came in at 168.22.
The calendar and my training aspirations say, nominal goal for August is 180 miles. I'd like to say 200, but I don't think my base is quite that solid yet. I'm working on it.
Real goals: Avoid injury. Continue build base and training toward Oak Tree Half and Wineglass Marathon.
Yes, I have a stack of registered races in August. They're low key, so no specific goals for the IEXC series. It does occur to me that I'm emulating @PastorVincent on August 29, with 3 races that day; but 5K, 1 mile, and 400m doesn't add up to all that much.11 -

Before I started racing and collecting weights, I did the treadmill because I could go to the gym and bust out a run and weight lifting session after work.8 -
Yay for a new month! My July goal was 50 miles, and I ended with just over 78. This month's goal is 70 miles. It's going to be a busy month and I don't know if I'll meet it, but I'll try!

I have trouble holding myself accountable, so I downloaded the c25k app. My goal this month is to participate in this app and related strength training apps daily. I hate focusing on weight because j always get discouraged at the plateau. I really just need to build a habit and learn how to adjust as necessary. I'm also a new vegetarian and have a lot to learn about how to get enough protein outside of dinner.12

Since I just skimmed over 50 miles in July, I'm going to up my mileage a bit and go for 60. *nail biting ensues*

@5BeautifulDays @MegaMooseEsq @robdavis1 @teerai I am glad to see 50 mile club is alive and well again. It nearly worked for me this month. So, I will set my goal at 50 and my stretch goal at 60... that at least got me to my base goal this month, so we shall see.8
