This is my first time in the challenge! I'm setting a goal of 50 miles, stretch goal of 60
I've been listening to "What I talk about when I talk about running" during my commute, and it is getting me fired up for something big this fall/winter. More immediately, it's got me fired up to tackle this miserable heat after a lackluster July.12 -
Joining the 50 mile club this month for... let's see... that's 80.4672km. Yup, that's me.8

Welcome to all of the newbies!
@Stoshew71 - you are absolutely right! I missed updating that link and now I can no longer change it!
Welcome back @karlundy! Good to have you back!
@eponine1984 - so glad you are back! I am hoping it means you are doing well and things are going better!
I only run on the treadmill if I have to because of the weather, traveling time restrictions or safety. Otherwise I am out exploring and running in the fresh air!4 -
After a big overreach in July, I am going to set my August goal to only 100 miles. This is just to keep my base, and to try to help my body to heal going into September's marathon training.
Oh, and I just want to give a HUGE shout-out to @AlphaHowls for putting in 502 miles in July!!!!
Didn't want it to get lost in the old July thread. That is superhuman, no matter how you look at it!
Bravo, @AlphaHowls !!
Thanks for posting this, @Scott6255 Where are you at with recovery?

My goal is a 30 km run at some point.

I'm in! My usual 31 miles / 50k for August. However I hope to add more mileage than that and make 10k my regular weekly long run. Life is still a little crazy and I have a twenty-fifth anniversary this month which is going to take time out, so I'm not going to add it to my official goal, but my stretch goal is 50 miles. Secondary goal is to add speed work back in, as my knee permits, with the eventual goal of getting back under an 8 minute mile, which was my PR in February before being injured.8
-
My goal for the month is 120 miles and to do strength training workouts more consistently.
Upcoming Races:
8/11/18 Hank Aaron State Trail 5k
8/18/18 Madison Mini Half Marathon
9/8/18 Tosafest 5k
9/16/18 North Face Endurance 10k
10/7/18 Lakefront Marathon7 -
@RunnerGrl1982 Thank you. We shall see how I do. I have been slacking lately, so this is going to be a stretch. There will be a lot of walking in that 59 miles. Good luck on your 60.4

Are you doing Two Face at North Park?1 -
I'll try (not a new runner, just new to this challenge). I'll aim for 115km (not miles!)10

The 50-mile club seemed to do so well, I wanted to call out a 100-mile club. Who's in? @RunsOnEspresso @marisap2010 @Scott6255, others???
Upcoming races:
August 18 Chmielakowy Half Marathon (Krasnystaw)
August 26 Kolbudy 10k, Bąkowo (Kashubia)8 -
8 miles this morning. Weather was glorious 71F, low humidity (70%) compared to all last month, but I know it won't last. So took advantage of it with some speed work. Felt good to blow out the carburetor a little. It took my mind off the rolled ankle around mile 2 (stupid cracks in street), and the itchy ant bites on the other foot. But it's all good.
Yes @Orphia, the ant bite swelling is going down, but still VERY itchy. Wanted to take my shoe off and scratch with every step this morning. But hopefully it will dissipate over the next few days.
Welcome all new to the challenge!10 -
Hello fellow runners!
This is the first time I've posted in MFP.
I've decided to join this challenge to try & keep me accountable.
My goal for August is to complete 20km.
I haven't run for a while as I have shin splints but want to start up slowly again so I don't aggravate my leg. I've recently started C25K, so I'm hoping to eventually meet this target whilst being accountable on this forum.
Good luck to everyone...may you all accomplish your goals!
Let's see if my ticker works...if not, at least I've given it a go. Btw... I noticed someone else has a similar ticker (apologies...but you have good taste ;-)).
Look forward to reading posts!15 -
8/1 - 4 hilly miles to start the month
4 of 1108 -
August 1 - 5 miles
I ended July with 126.33 miles which was my highest mileage month since February. Heading out for a few days vacation tomorrow which involves a lot of time in the car but I have a couple of major events the first of September so I'm going to aim for 125 miles for the month.
All of you inspire me to keep going! I may not post a lot of replies, but I'm always reading and pressing the "like" button.
Upcoming Races:
September 1 – Iron Mountain 16-Miler
September 7-8 – Blue Ridge Relay
October 20 – Cherokee Harvest Half Marathon
November 11 – Rock n Roll Vegas Half Marathon

Hi everyone! New runner here. @eponine1984 I found that our goals are very similar!
Goals for the month:
- continue working through c25k
- Log food, stop gaining, start losing weight
- 50 miles running10 -
-
8/1 - 6
6 of 70 miles
I think I managed to eat 5 oz of protein this morning in gnats. Ugh!! The darn things were sticking to my forehead ha ha
@Scott6255 get some Caladryl clear for the ant bites, I get all the time it seems and it's horrible, but the pharmacist recommended it for Skip's bug bites and it really stop it from itching and dry them up faster.
@AprilRN10 we are twinning again at 70 miles

Wow you guys sound incredible! I wish I could motivate myself to run!6

Uggg, this morning has been kind of up and down. Down because I had a hard time getting out of bed, it was raining, the husband was yelling at the dogs who were yelling at me because I didn’t let them out promptly because my scale was acting wonky (no, I did not lose 11 pounds overnight), and because of the rain I had to take the dogs on a very damp walk (thankfully between showers) because the nervous one won’t do his business in the yard when it’s wet out.
BUT after all that, I ran anyhow, so that's a big up! In the rain, which felt pretty badass. In my sweaty hat that I had to dig out of the hamper, but kept my glasses mostly dry. A little longer than planned as I set my turn-around timer for eight minutes instead of four (brain not work so well when running), but I figured it out after six minutes and running in the rain was kind of nice anyhow.
On the non-running side, I’ve been struggling with staying disciplined working from home. I started a new job in April and I think there was maybe a month of “wow, this is new and awesome!” and then I was crazy busy with a big project and travel and personal stuff, but July was a slog trying to keep my hours up after the OT project ended. I don’t have a good sense of what’s expected from me when I’m working without a deadline and that stresses me out. And stress makes me want to sleep, and then my hours are short and stuff doesn't get done around the house, and that stresses me out even more. Sigh. Things are a lot simpler when I'm running.
AUGUST MILES:
8/1 We - 0:21:46 - 1.86
Total: 1.86/50 miles
Races!
July 4: Red, White and Boom! 5K Chip time: 0:32:20
August 25: The Glo Run Night Race 5K
September 8th, 9th, 15th, or 16th: MN Brewery Running Series 5K-ish fun run
October 6: Twin Cities Marathon Weekend 5K
Shout out to the August 50 mile club! @mbaker566, @robdavis1, @Teerai, @hanlonsk, @grrrlwonder, @noblsheep, @ireallylikeyourface1989, and stretch members @5BeautifulDays and @rheddmobile! Sorry if I missed anyone!13 -

There's nothing all that great about running - what's great is pushing yourself physically just a little more over time. If that's taking a ten-minute walk three days a week when last week you only took one, then that's incredible. It turns out that if you're consistent about making small improvements, that WILL build up to something great a lot faster than you expect.8 -
@skippygirlsmom thanks for the advice. I do use Caladryl clear, and alternate with the Calamine 'pink' stuff. Was hoping one would win out, but both are about the same. Think it will just take time. Seems the older I get, that is the usual cure
But thanks, I really do appreciate it!2 -
August Goal: 60 Miles
8/1: 3 miles (1 mile warm up w/6 x 200m hill efforts + 1 mile cool down)
Mile To Go: 57
Upcoming Races:
Santa Monica Classic | 5K | September 9th
_________
Out of the gate this morning with a 3 mile run.
I had 6 x 200m hill reps. This went so much better than the set I did 2 weeks ago. What a difference. It goes to show that just continuing to get out there and log the miles really does help. I managed to get all the efforts in with minimal breaks in between. Quite pleased. Still a long way to go, but it was a solid start.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone smash their own goals this month no matter the mileage.

Did my first run of 220km

One step at a time, you can do it.
Just start walking and when you're ready add short running distances. Its hard but amazing when you can look back and see the progress.4 -

@Scott6255 you're welcome. My next recommendation is tec-nu it's a white and green spray bottle. It's for poison ivy and stuff like that.1 -

August goal: 75 miles
8/1: 4.5 miles
4.5/75 miles
The first run for August was awesome! It was so nice out this morning! About 64F with ~70% humidity and dew point ~55. It was a really nice, cool morning as I started out. I was able to keep my pace at 10;38 which is really good for me. I did get hot and sweaty because I was running, but I couldn't ask for better running weather in August in Texas.
I decided to set my goal at 75 miles this month. Last month I had a goal of 80 and surpassed that by about 10 miles. But I have a couple of weekends in August where I am not sure if I will be able to get a long run in so I will set a conservative goal.
2018 races:
5/19/18: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon - 2:43:59.7. - 2nd place AG
11/10/18: Wags & Whiskers 5K11
