@Orphia @girlinahat , Yeah, if you get that list going, let me know and I will see where I can run one for him.2

No run tonight... probably through Tuesday. Traveling and left my running gear at home. Very busy trip so did not want to tempt myself with the ability to escape for hours in the middle of it Kind of important I am around for this (see my prior post about my baby sister).3

@orphia, @elise4270, @garygse and all of the rest that I can't think to mention by name - I think it is so great that we are pulling together on this! I don't run marathons but I am willing to help in any way I can.
@orphia I think it is awesome that you reached out to his family. I know Steve said on Strava that he was also going to let their mom know about all of us because it was helping her to know how much had touched other people's lives.
@elise4270 - I am having a hard time with it too. Still can't understand why the passing of someone I never actually met is hitting so hard but I think it is just that he was such a great person here and so encouraging to everyone as well as that he was just too damn young!
@pastorvincent - good luck with your planning trip! It will be awesome for you to be so involved in her big day. For her and for you! 💕5 -
Lifted lower body this morning but it didn't really feel complete without a run, so I hit up a quick 1.16 miles for totals of 42.61/55 per endomondo for the month so far.6

@Elise4270 Just saw your post above.
I sent condolences from all of us to Dennis' wife.
I told her about us wanting to add to his list, and asked which family member would be best to help with the technical aspects.
(On your Strava runs, you can click the "Add Friend" button and the friend (ie his son using his account) can accept the add, and it will post the run on the KeepRunningFatboy Strava feed.
She recommended their son could help, so I have sent him a message this morning.
That nice. I really hate to bother his family too much. Im such an introvert, I'd be a bit irritated with the family disruption. Thats just my wierdness. My social circle is warped. It probably more of a scribble than a circle with unpredictable and invisible boundaries. Some potentially hostile. All very neurotically patrolled.
I think, looking back through his strava activity we can get a good idea of his runs. And i think i may have him on athlinks... But if hes already got a state/place and someone wants to do one for him, i dont think it should be dismissed because hes already done it. Ya know, no rules. Just run that mfn mile 😁
So not only to finish his list, but to do his list as a collective, would be the goal. But again if 2 or 13 people wanna do the same place.... I say it counts. We are one.
@Elise4270 he does indeed have an Athlinks profile. Each and everyone of his 45 marathons logged if you go to results and select Marathon sort. Should be easy from there to determine which states are left.5 -

Right on!
I have something started. I got the first and last page. Group effort ya know. I'm alright delagating and asking for direction and help since it is a collective effort.

I was nervous, and weighed it up, and considering my 2 messages contain such a lot of support from many people, and a plan for continuing his memory and life goal, I thought it was worth it.
I wouldn't have bothered them if it was just me alone.
So great to be a part of all this. Really makes you think and appreciate how precious and wonderful life is.
I'm really glad you can do that. Its bordering out of my comfort zone approaching his brother.
When i was 18 i worked at a movie theater in Irving Texas. John Ritter was filming in the area and stopped in to watch a movie. I accepted his money, wished him "enjoy your show" like he was no one. I just cant bother people. I'm probably timid or as kids, ya know- dont bother adults.0 -

I was like that most of my life, but parkrun has given me a bit more confidence, plus losing weight, quitting drinking, and running have made me able to recognise when I'm in a situation where if I don't act, I'm going to regret it forever. *kitten* regrets.5 -
Package pickup today. I won some free socks. I think they might fit my 6 year old LOL.
The smoke is supposed to clear tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully it stays gone or at least low until after 3 PM Sunday - that's an hour after the marathon cutoff. It's really awful right now.

I love that we are going to continue his legacy, and I mean WE because most of us may not be running marathons, we will all be behind those that do. Gives me a bit of impetus to actually do a marathon, just not in the next couple of months lol.
I got new shoes today and went for a 3k test run. They are better than my last pair, I can tell I'm. Not over pronation like I was (interesting cause technically these are a neutral shoe) but I'm still not 100% convinced. I think part of the problem is I'm comparing them to my old running shoes which were absolutely perfect and I'd still be running in them except they are getting a bit worn. These shoes were definitely the best in the shop though I'm learning that doesn't always translate outside.
They are under armour hovr phantoms. Butt ugly shoes on the shelf but look good on. Very comfortable.

We have a star in our midst.
@garygse is in 151st place in the Strava Distance Challenge for August, out of nearly 180,000 people.
To put that in perspective, a guy I admire like a guru who has just done 10 marathons in 10 days is in 225th.
Absolutely awesome.
That is especially impressive giving the amount of cheating on Strava in those things (for reasons I can not fathom).1 -

Nike Running App has similar competitions and I often wonder how these people get the mileage they do. Unless they are all @AlphaHowls there is no way.2 -

I haven't posted my miles yet this week. I am a little bit behind for the 100-mile club.
This morning was a "recovery" run which means zone 1 for 40 minutes. It was awful. And I had to take several walk breaks. I actually worked while I was running! If you can call it running... it was more like a shuffle. I need to get my HR in better shape! LOL I need to be faster and get more mileage in during my weekday runs. I assume more people get 4-5 miles in a 40-minute run while I am lucky if I get 3. I miss my old speed and I am afraid I will end up with a DNF in November because I will surpass the 5-hour limit. Ugh.6 -

What an amazing group this to be so thoughtful regarding @KeepRunningFatboy. It's nice to think he's leaving a legacy. If he affected this group that much, I can only imagine how much he affected his family and friends.
All the talk about introvert/extrovert/not invading people's space - I'm the manager of a small airport and sometimes an entertainer will fly in for a show at one of the casino's. People (including my husband) will ask me if I shook their hand or asked for an autograph or had my picture taken - but I would never dream of doing that - it seems so intrusive! So here's a comical story. Jay Leno was here a couple months ago. The weekend lineman, who is 20 years old, didn't even know who Leno was. His mom had to explain it to him. I had a good laugh about that. And then it made me feel old.
Had a great 5 mile run this morning. Was right at the tempo I'm aiming for at next month's race. I was completely wiped out by the time I was done - but then it feels SO GOOD!!!
June goal - 44/44
July goal - 52/52
August goal - 33/57 miles
Next race: Sept. 30 - Wineglass Half Marathon; Corning, NY

Hi, all. I know I've been MIA in this thread for a long time, but after hearing about Dennis @KeepRunningFatboy the other day, I thought I'd pop in and give you all a virtual hug. I'm recovering from being sick this week, but was able to get in 6 slow miles dedicated to Dennis this morning and I love that so many of you have done the same. He was a great guy and an awesome inspiration to many runners, myself included. I know that he paced many races (and seemed like he did a phenomenal job at that as well), so I can only imagine how many other runners' lives he touched outside of our group as well. Dennis only lived an hour or so from me and I figure we would cross paths at some point since we've run some of the same races and I'm very sad I never got the opportunity to meet him in person. I saw that some of you are trying to help Dennis complete his goal to run a race in every state and I think that's a great idea. He recently mentioned to me that he was training for Lake Tahoe, Tuscon, and Houston Marathons, so if any of you were already planning on running those races, it would be awesome to do so in his memory. I'm not at the point in my training right now where I can run a marathon (training for a half right now and trying to remain uninjured) but the next one I do will be in memory of him. I'm hoping to do the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati next spring and that definitely wouldn't be a new state, but it was one of his favorites, so I feel that would be appropriate. I hope you all are doing well - I see many of you crushing it on Strava, so I gather that you are14

I ran my memorial run for @KeepRunningFatboy today.
I wish I was in the shape to run a marathon for him, he would have deserved that. But I'm not, so instead I tried to make the gps track look like a flower.
It didn't work as well as I might have liked, but it was the best route I could find after a long time spent planning and discarding ideas. There is a little church with a small but beautiful graveyard in the centre of the "flower" route, so it seemed the most fitting.
During the run, I thought a lot about Dennis, but also about what being alive means in general, and that we should remember to live our lives the best we can and never forget the things that matter most to us.

I wish I was going that speed dear. You and evry other person in this groups continually inspire me to push faster, run smarter, avoid injury, and run farther. The speed will come with the time and distance and consistency. I am continually a tiny bit envious(okay a little, scratch that, a lot envious) of everyone else's mileage. Then I remind myself that we are not all Wonderwoman( @AlphaHowls, @Orphia ) or Superman ( @garygse , @PastorVincent to name a few) and for a lot of us the inspiration to get off the couch and do something(read anything!) comes from bwing a part of this wonderful running community. @RunsOnEspresso ,whatever your speed, know that you getting out there inspires me too. 3.04 miles with 0.3 mile cool down walk for total of 45.96/55 per endomondo for the month so far.8 -
10 miles this morning. Whatever the opposite word for fun is, that is what this run was. I can't remember a worse run. Had to take SEVERAL walk breaks, and could barely lift my feet off the ground. Averaged over 10 min/mi. Just horrible. I guess I need to back off on training the rest of the month to go fresh into marathon training next month. Gotta do something to get my mojo back.OSUbuckeye906 wrote: »I saw that some of you are trying to help Dennis complete his goal to run a race in every state and I think that's a great idea. ETA: Oh, I just saw this. I think that is a sign from above (and from Dennis) and exactly what I need to give me my inspiration back. I am registered for my first full marathon, and it so happens to be the Houston Marathon (January 2019)! So I will take that one on. Thanks for posting @OSUbuckeye90623 -

No Strava for me..I believe that takes a real cellphone/smart, whatever. I am still using a flip phone with nothing but the ability to call. Granted my siblings ever so often text me, but I just do not answer. Some things about the future just flat out frighten me.

Ran my 5k road race this morning and came second in my age-group. That one is for you, Dennis.23
