@quilteryoyo Running definitely cuts into my hobby time! I had way more hobbies when I was fat. I still enjoy quilting, however. I like the challenge of miniaturizing quilts in different styles for my 1/12 scale dollhouse.3

Got way too late of a start and ran well past full dark. Had no lights or blinky thingies (very not smart). Forgot my water too, but I stayed out till I reached 8.1 miles for @KeepRunningFatboy then beelined it for home and something to drink!
Saw probably a dozen deer munching happily on someone's field.9 -

10k yesterday night. Was supposed to be 2km longer but cut it short for a reason I can't remember now (brain does weird things when running).
I remember reading the Last Battle in the Narnia series when I was young, and the part about the afterlife, said something along the lines of "they could now run as fast and far as they wanted without getting tired". My ten-year-old self did not grasp how wonderful that must be. I certainly do now.
Upcoming races:

20181118 Shanghai Marathon (maybe)21 -

30 km (18.6 miles) this morning while thinking of Dennis / KeepRunningFatboy.
Had a few morbid or superstitious thoughts, such as when seeing some Arum lilies, and running past a cemetery.
But I overcome the negativity because Dennis was such a positive, unclichéd thinker.
I felt really strong, and it was perfect weather to enjoy a run on my own out of town, and I ended up doing my second-fastest 30+ km run out of 14 so far.
I had such a big smile on my face when I achieved what I set out to do, and emerged from my shock and sadness with renewed inspiration from my inspiring friend.19 -
@Orphia A very touching tribute to someone who, although I didn't have the privilege of getting to know him, was obviously a special and inspiring person.

This morning I got to do speedwork. I say got to instead of had to because I dedicated it to @KeepRunningFatboy because he did not get to do speedwork today. He didn't get to run at all today. I hate speedwork, but today it was a blessing. I didn't know him, but he seems to have touched many. I was quite touched by the story of how he chose his MFP name given that I had a similar experience about 100 pounds ago. I took an entire minute off my best 5k time this morning.
August goal: 70 miles
8/1: impromptu rest day (3 miles were planned)
8/2: 3.15 miles (6 miles were planned, but heat was too awful)

@garygse loved that you made a full marathon for @KeepRunningFatboy . I thought about that yesterday.
I wondered what states he had left and if Oklahoma was one, i could perhaps one day run one for him. Hes got Texas now.8 -
Had a few morbid or superstitious thoughts, such as when seeing some Arum lilies, and running past a cemetery.
I had a creeped out feeling today. My usual "hill" area was super dark. Tried another place. Super dark (even with my light and phone flashlight). Ended up at the park near my house.1 -
On a lighter note....
I have a work trip in October to Waukesha Wisconsin. I'd really love to catch one of our MFPers for dinner or perhaps even a run. If anyone is interested, holler.2 -

Sad to hear about one of us suddenly dying. I'll admit I have morbid thoughts of what would happen if I keeled over while running - it's usually, after I read articles about perfectly healthy athletes suddenly dying. I wonder why he died? 52 seems way too young
Ran a really hot 7 miles this morning. I was running slow, but my heart rate zone kept climbing, at about 5.5 miles I started walking and running. Trying to conserve energy for tomorrow's longest run yet.
My kids got their teacher assignments yesterday. It was quite comical to see the flurry of texting and messaging between all the moms trying to figure out whose kids were with which teachers. Hard to believe there is just 9 days left before school starts!
RE active activities aside from running... does taking care of 3 kids count? I feel like aside from running my life is spent running a house and keeping my 3 kids alive (harder than is sounds lol) - it certainly feels really active to me

Been really busy with life the past week. I just had a chance to drop in and I was going to update my runs. @shanaber thanks for checking on me, all is fine just life getting in my way this week.
Like everyone else I’m shocked and sadden to hear about Dennis, what a huge loss to this world. Just a super great guy, always a kind and encouraging word when you needed it. I’m just sitting here staring at my screen. So sad.
@Teresa502 so sorry to see your post on the family barn. Thankfully no one and no animals were hurt.

Shoe shopping today! I was going to leave my run till tomorrow (Sunday) but I'm going to try get it in today after shopping. Im way too excited to be shopping, and I know that new shoes won't necessarily fix all my problems but I'm boy do I hope they fix most of them haha! I've got one more week before I hit the training full on!
I still have to drive 1.5hrs to the shops with a 4yr old and a 2yr old sigh but 35% off all running shoes and they have most of the brands! Yay7 -

Today was 5 more miles of awful humidity and hip/ankle discomfort, but completed. I need to go again tomorrow, but may do streets rather than trails. The place where I run is pretty rough due to rain right now, so I've been wearing my trail shoes. Unfortunately, my toes bang up against the ends and my callouses were accidentally removed a few days ago (I didn't warn the pedicurist before she did her dastardly deed!). Ouch. But I didn't want to mess up my pretty Mizunos, either, so I threw on an old pair of Guides with 200+ miles on them. I don't know the science of over-pronation or how many mms of drop...but I do know that unsquishy old shoes = pain. I'm retiring these guys to the "walk the dog" pile!
Fun stuff: ISFJ "the nurturer" which is appropriate since my hobbies/work are raising and teaching kids.
Also, I'm a Hufflepuff (with probably a fair splash of Ravenclaw) and my patronus is a Polecat (don't mess with Mama's kids).

I'm really sad to hear about Dennis. I didn't know him, but I was inspired by his story. I will hold him and his family in my thoughts and prayers on my next run.

I had a really difficult time getting outside today. It was hot and very humid again when I got up and I knew I needed to get out there if I was going to go at all. I decided I would take Hobbes the Vizsla for a walk (in my running kit) and just run a bit if I felt up to it. I am sore all over from my workouts this week, lifting heavy and routines we haven't done in a while that have left my muscles literally shaking immediately and DOMS the day or two or three after... I think I am tired. Well I got myself together and rushed out with the pup but did not eat anything and did not eat enough yesterday. I did do some running intervals sprinkled into the walk and felt better for it after the 1st couple of miles. I was drenched, drank all of my water and Hobbes was really really hot so we ran from shade to shade mostly. Strava said 3.99 miles but I am counting it as 4 on principle Now I just want to take a nap.

Shocked to see the news which in a roundabout way I found out through Strava. Good we are all here, keeping tabs, spreading love.
Happy to take on the U.K. marathon mantle. I booked myself onto the same crazy marathon I did in June for next year. The route is backwards next year, more than happy to dedicate it to @KeepRunningFatboy11 -
@Elise4270 I really like the idea of MRC runners pooling together to try and complete his "marathon in every state" goal.
Today's run was a marathon done in memory of @KeepRunningFatboy. Run in peace, Dennis.

Me too. We could do a google sheet with a shared link. Each tab could be dedicated to each state/providence or country.
Any better ideas?
I can get it started and we can let it take shape?
You computer nerds (haha-love ya) wanna write a script or app or newfangled wizardness of virtual magic?
I invited Dennis brother, Steve to mfp. Idk if hes up for us or ready to welcome the loving insanity and chaos of our virtual running group. I kind of feel like a predator, drawing him in because we miss Dennis and any part of Dennis that could potentially join us, is comforting to me.
Today is harder for me than yesterday was.8 -
@Elise4270 Just saw your post above.
I sent condolences from all of us to Dennis' wife.
I told her about us wanting to add to his list, and asked which family member would be best to help with the technical aspects.
(On your Strava runs, you can click the "Add Friend" button and the friend (ie his son using his account) can accept the add, and it will post the run on the KeepRunningFatboy Strava feed.
She recommended their son could help, so I have sent him a message this morning.

That nice. I really hate to bother his family too much. Im such an introvert, I'd be a bit irritated with the family disruption. Thats just my wierdness. My social circle is warped. It probably more of a scribble than a circle with unpredictable and invisible boundaries. Some potentially hostile. All very neurotically patrolled.
I think, looking back through his strava activity we can get a good idea of his runs. And i think i may have him on athlinks... But if hes already got a state/place and someone wants to do one for him, i dont think it should be dismissed because hes already done it. Ya know, no rules. Just run that mfn mile 😁
So not only to finish his list, but to do his list as a collective, would be the goal. But again if 2 or 13 people wanna do the same place.... I say it counts. We are one.6 -

I was nervous, and weighed it up, and considering my 2 messages contain such a lot of support from many people, and a plan for continuing his memory and life goal, I thought it was worth it.
I wouldn't have bothered them if it was just me alone.
So great to be a part of all this. Really makes you think and appreciate how precious and wonderful life is.8 -
