I think @MegaMooseEsq explained the negative factor enabled/disabled in the diary settings about the step count. I wanted to find that post to say thanks for the explanation.
I disabled it. I found it demoralizing. I prefer to use the garmin only to count the distance and calories burned that day. No longer counting steps. In my head felt I was going no where. It was eating at me.
So, for me to get out of that mode I keep at it don't stop but I have to find a logical way out to solve it in my head and move forward in a more positive manner. But till then I'm fighting with myself. Sometimes being stubborn pays off it doesn't let me quit.
I missed the convo on this, but I have MFP set to "no activity at all, I sit on a couch all day" - and let my Garmin Forerunner 935 update for activity level as needed. Then I only look at a week's worth of data when trying to see how I am doing. Works for me at least.6 -

@katharmonic what a great race! Wish there was a double-like button. Congrats on your longest distance, and feeling good doing it is the best!
I would also like a double like button! High five, @katharmonic!0 -

@MobyCarp - what's the OakTree Half in Geneseo like? Pretty hilly? I think I saw you have done this before and/or are doing it this year (next week).0 -
@katharmonic Well done!0

I was supposed to run yesterday but I wasn’t feeling it, so I didn’t. I wasn’t feeling it today either, but I didn’t want two rest days to turn into a week into a month without running and my husband was trying to get some work done, so I strapped the tiny human into the jogging stroller and set off. (I also managed to get bug spray in my eyes before leaving, so I was off to a great start.)
I cut my usual route short and only did 2.25 miles, but I got out and did it. We saw a mama deer and two babies, so that made it worth it for me. I tried to get a picture but it wasn’t the best.

8.25 was supposed to be 14. I couldn't get myself to go any further. I had done my second loop and stopped at home for some Nuun performance. Walked the block, put my water bottle back and started to run again. I got about .25 in and I couldn't go any further. I think this might be the end of my marathon training. 3 attempts and no starts means it's not destined to be. I will probably drop down to the half.8 -
Signed up for St Jude Marathon weekend 5k - considered doing a longer distance since it's rare to have a longer local race, but the St Jude 5k was my first race that I ran the whole distance and I wanted to do it again to mark the anniversary. I know at least a couple of other people on the thread are coming for the longer distances. Price goes up after the 29th so I needed to stop procrastinating!
Does anyone else fundraise for races? St Jude is aggressive with mailers asking runners to fundraise, and I feel kind of bad not doing it, since not only is it a cause I believe in, my uncle used to be in charge of fundraising for them. If you do, how do you handle it?5 -
@rheddmobile I don't usually. For the big charity races a portion of the registration fee goes to the charity as well - I see that as my contribution typically.5

I have in the past, but I am really bad at it, so I normally just make a donation instead of doing that. They get more money that way.2 -

I had a pretty good run today. It was hot though. I need to get up earlier on Sundays, but I usually need the sleep. We celebrated my Dad's 81st birthday yesterday so I got to bed late and just didn't want to get up before the sun. Plus I kind of like to wake up on my own and not have an alarm set. I'll be glad when it is cooler at 8:30 am.
My run was mostly uneventful. There was one loose dog. It would have been a scary big dog, but I could see the owner (a boy of about 10) following her with a leash and trying to get her to come home. I thought the dog was going to follow me, but finally she lost interest. I felt bad for the boy because the dog was just ignoring him when he called her. My min pin used to do that when she would get out and I know how frustrating it is. I was glad that the dog wasn't unattended though.

I finally got past my mental block and ran 20 miles today.
I will say though that it ended up in two chunks. I set out extra early (5am) because my best friend, who lives out of state, was driving through on her way home from a funeral and wanted to take a break for an hour during her 14 hour drive. She arrived earlier than I anticipated, so I had to stop at 16 miles. However, I went back out later and finished the final 4 miles. Not ideal, but I made it work the best that I could.
I have some soreness on the front of my leg. I’m hoping it is just sore from overuse. Maybe a shin splint. I’m really hoping nothing worse. I’m icing it and hoping it is less sore in a day or two.11 -

I did it one year. I personally just donated the $500 basic pledge. Love St Judes also. They sent some sweet swag for that 500 bucks 😏. I hate asking for money. So fundraising isn't my thing i guess. If you do it, I'm sure I can send ya something. Just hit me up with the deets.4 -
1---3.03 run
2---8.72 mile mtn bike ride
4---6.22 intervals
5---8.06 hike
7---3.31 intervals
8---8.60 muddy trails bike
11---5.27 interval run
12---5.80 interval run
14---4.02 interval run
15---4.88 ride
16---5.2 for Dennis
18---6.31 intervals
19---5.07 intervals
21---2.71 intervals
23---3.19 intervals
25---5.52 pathetic intervals
26---4.01 unfunky run.
How to get unfunked:
1) tell garmin to shut the feck up. Took it off interval runs and just let the clock tick away.
2) enjoy what you've missed while consumed with the next interval. I saw a white and a great blue heron. Ran a new section. That I loved. Caught the buffalos and baby buffalo out. Then ended with two fawns that had no concern that I existed and the mama deer wanted me to feed her and got rather close trying to see if perhaps I had something. She responded to "mama", maybe I should grab some apples next time.
3) slow down. Quit trying to be a bad *kitten* and run in the 100° temps at race pace, you doo doo. No one cares about your arm pit fat, your missing teeth, that your ugly, or dumb, or gimpy, or misunderstood, or what ever you decided to obsess over this week. All that matters is that your feet are moving and your heart is pumping. Focus on what actually matters in your life. Get over yourself and fly.

(pause in reading posts to reply)
@katharmonic
Oak Tree has two major down and back up stretches. The second one is the steeper of the two, including the famous Mile 11 hill. Actually, the 11 mile flag is right where that "up" stretch changes from being a hill to being a steep hill. The course includes about 8 miles of gravel road, including the major up and down hill stretches, and finishes with 3/4 of a lap around the high school track.
Rochester Half (September 23) has better marketing. Oak Tree is a tougher course. I was a bit worried about Oak Tree until yesterday's 18 miles in Mendon; now I think I'm ready for the hills. The wild card is what the weather does; I have not yet demonstrated an ability to manage a long race well in hot, humid weather.
Congratulations on the 18.12 race! Tom Lamme (holder of the 60-64 age group course record for Oak Tree) tells me that he always liked the 30K distance, because it was like a marathon without the wall. I've never run an 18 mile or 30K race, though I've done training runs of about that distance. I think running it as a race, even if it's not an "A" race, would be good for your marathon training. You've already described my mantra during the last 4 miles of my first marathon: Every step is a new distance PR. Every minute is a new time running PR. Keep going.3 -

Once, I set up a fundraiser page for a race. I contributed enough to get a message on the race shirt, mentioned it once on Facebook, and my sister kicked in enough more that the race organizer was impressed. I really didn't want to push the fundraising because I was concerned someone might feel obligated to give and I didn't want to guilt trip anyone. I learned that I Am Not a Fund Raiser. Just have to run my way to a BQ each year, because there's no way I'm raising $7500 for charity to earn my spot at Hopkinton.6 -

Today's notes – Summer humidity is back, dew point of 70º F. Waited till 6:30 PM to run, with the sun low in the sky and the shadows long. Temperature was falling from 81º F as I ran and there was a nice breeze from the west. Felt pretty good eastbound, kind of warm westbound. And of course it was a sweatfest by the time I got home.
The bad news is, all summer long I've had problems running more than about an hour in the humidity. The good news is, I only needed to run about an hour (okay, 63 to 64 minutes) to get my 8 miles in. It stayed pleasant, and that's the way I wanted it.

@katharmonic - Congratulations!! Well done!
@rheddmobile - I don't typically charity raise for my runs. I give independently to organizations that are meaningful to me and/or my family. Not that those that the races are for are not worthy, I just like to chose who, when and what I give. I hate asking others to support me because I don't like it when people try to guilt me into supporting their choices. I was so very glad that I didn't have to do it any longer when my daughter got out of school!
@qorphia - I liked that quote a lot too as well as another in what @kevaasen posted. So much so that I copied them off to save!
Today was supposed to be a long run but I just wasn't up to it even though the weather was much nicer than it has been and I was looking forward to it. Was feeling tired and having stomach issues before I headed out that I thought were resolved and were mostly. I had some weird thing with my HR too where it was high for me during my warm up and then dropped low for me during my actual workout. I chalked it up to one of those runs and will got out for a longer run later in the week. Can't believe it is already the last week of August - wow!

Love this part. Even the most uneventful run has interesting stuff happen.
On my long run over the weekend, I ran past a senior choir rehearsing in the park. With a band and constructor and all the shebaz. That was pretty awesome.5 -
7 semi quick miles. Thanks for the info @MobyCarp and for the kudos and encouragement.
I'm not sure I'll do the Oak Tree. It sounds beautiful and an interesting (challenging - not sure about the gravel part) run but it's 2 hours away for me and not sure I'm up for that two weeks in a row. A friend of mine wants to do it, she may already be signed up, so who knows if she can convince me. I agree the weather is the big factor and it sounds pretty iffy - not excited that we are back under heat advisory the next couple of days. Glad you are feeling up to the race and things have been going well for you (other than the miserable heat and humidity).
Thank you @shanaber, @skippygirlsmom, @cburke8909, @panini911, and @PastorVincent!!! Love the encouragement of this group.
