At yoga today someone said "Heather, you're looking so well!" I didn't feel all that well as my hips were complaining about the damp weather, but I'll take it. Then someone else said, "Have you lost weight? You're looking very good. " This was the same person who told me I shouldn't lose any more the first time around. I told her that I was now back to my goal weight, having put on a few pounds last year.
Considering I've been feeling a bit stressed and tired I'm assuming that all my demonic exercising is paying off.
This pm we drove to pick up my blood pressure meds, (I guess it's genetic) and then decided to spend a ยฃ5 off food voucher at the expensive store. I spent ยฃ35.60 as it was ยฃ5 off ยฃ35. Plus I bought a birthday card for Edie's 5th birthday next month. "THE COOLEST GIRL IN THE GALAXY".
Then I lured DH upstairs to the household department and they had 30% off cushions. We bought two for my sofa, I've been looking for cushions for more than a year, so RESULT! I was going to wait until we moved, but they were cheap and very nice indeed.
So, a good day. I'm going to do half an hour on the bike to bump up my calories, but I did walk quite a way in the huge store.

Barbie: It sounds like things are improving, bit by bit. I am happy to hear you are feeling a bit better. That is very good news.
Re Camp ground hosting: In our county there are hosts at several parks. Sometimes the hosts move from one park to another, but it seems to be a year around job. As I understand it they get free space and electricity. I donโt know how much actual income they receive but my observation is that they kept the facilities up. They also delivered wood to various campsites and the camper had to pay for that. I believe that was a profit item for the caretaker. We also have state campgrounds that have people on site. I donโt know whether they are similar to our countyโs camp hosts, or just regularly employed state workers who live someplace in the vicinity.
Rita: Where is your hosting job? Iโm sure youโve said, but I donโt remember. :embarrassed:
Sue: Nessa seems like a big girl if this is a puppy class. We took our dog to a puppy class back when and it did wonderful things for his behavior. I would do it again with any future pup.
Heather: I understand why you want to be near your grandchildren. DS & DDIL are visiting now and it is such a thrill to spend time with our dear baby grandson. Our daughter lives halfway across the country and flying here is very costly now that she has three children. It doesnโt seem likely to happen. She wants us to visit her. Weโre considering a road trip to see her in our RV. She is in the process of buying a place and we are all keeping our fingers crossed that all goes well.
My son is in the living room, and Iโm off to enjoy his company. It is a rare gift to have him here along with his wife and baby.

electronics while driving: ditto in Oregon. https://www.opb.org/news/article/oregon-distracted-driving-jail/
It is not only a ticketing offense, but can be a criminal offense to use distracting electronics while driving.
Blueberries our wild? evergreen blueberries are just coming in and boy are they tiny and tart/tangy. The semi-dried out wrinkled ones are sweet like raisins. Have just been grazing on them, guess I should pick em and freeze for vitamin C in the winter?
Grandparents and living close to extended family. I'm a little jealous of most of your grands experiences. Only got to visit one, a great grand actually, and I was only one yr old so don't remember. Then again mama and papa were older so it was like my parents were my grands too. When papa got out of the SeaBees he had malaria so he and Mama settled in the SF Bay Area to spare him the hot humid St. Louis summers. We went every other August [shudder] back to visit aunts, uncles, cousins etc in Missouri and Kansas.
Janetr that little great grand apple fell not far from your tree! What cuties you both are!
Felicia good to hear from you. Safe travels, loved London
Rebecca that pollen dusted mouselet in yellow tulip will keep me smiling all day!
Sue in WA that Nessa is a cutie but has a mischievous eye...
Allie love your arrangement with your neighbor, truly helping each other!
Karen in VA so now we need a current pic of your Olivia Where in Idaho did your grands live?
Lisa resemble the comment about the untrustworthy land in which you're living  ... but it sure made me laugh! Truly "friends are the family you choose."
Welcome back Purl!
Overloaded on sugar yesterday, floating me over on calories. When Joe asked "aren't you going to do your wii this morning?" I said "No I'm afraid of what it will say after yesterday."
Then I heard that darned old FEAR word and wii weighed in anyway. Miracle of miracles only .2 lb up from yesterday. Joe said "Then it's ok, you can do it all over again today." :noway:

Evelyn - Travelling in Canada is so very expensive. I am in Alberta and from New Brunswick. I have been looking for flights home and it's just not reasonable.
Heather - Lovely pics of your grandchildren. I don't blame you for wanting to be near them
Wendy - I have been an empty nester since 2009 when both girls moved out within 2 weeks of one another. They have both been back twice over the years. My eldest and her husband were flooded out of their apartment in 2012 with an almost one year old. They came to stay in July and left in November. In September that year the youngest moved back for a couple months as well. They all moved out again on November 5th. It was loud, noisy and crowded and oh so quiet when they all left again. We don't have room now if any of them wanted to move back since we downsized considerably.
Allie - I love that you and your neighbour help each other out. We have finally gotten to know our neighbours a little bit this summer. It seems its the first time since we moved to Alberta 20 years ago that we have friendly ones.
Kelly - What is King Cake? Baby in cake after cooking? I am not familiar with New Orleans customs. On the subject of Apples - today on the radio they were talking about apples and for the first time in 50 years the Red Delicious has been bumped out of the number one chosen apple for the Gala.
Lisa in AR - Love the Chicken Little reference, I have felt like that with co-workers several times in my life.
Kylia - Happy Anniversary tomorrow
I just love all the stories of Grandparents and family dynamics.
The pictures I shared yesterday were my Maternal Grandparents. My Mom was an only child so the only grandchildren were my brother and I. Needless to say, we were quite spoiled. My Dad was very poor with money although he worked extremely hard he never could get ahead. He was a "jack of all trades", and was a licensed General Contractor. Many evenings after he came home from work, he would gobble his supper down and we would be off somewhere fixing something for someone. He never charged enough for these jobs usually doing it for the price of gas to get there and whatever part might be needed. At the visiting hours following his death my brother and I heard over and over. "Your Father built my cupboards, I remember one stormy night our furnace went out and we called your Father, I had to have your Father fix my dryer, he kept that thing going years past when it should have been put out to pasture". It was remarkable the number of lives he touched just by doing for others. My Grandmother was a school teacher in the one room school days, she retired the year I was born when they closed the last one room school in the area. She tried substituting for a year but didn't like teaching just one grade. My Grandfather was a heavy duty mechanic. I was so fortunate to have them in my life for a long time.
My paternal grandparents lived in a neighbouring town. They had 7 children, every Sunday we would visit one Aunt or Uncle or another. I am the youngest Granddaughter on that side. There are only three boys younger than me. The oldest Grandchild was a year younger than my Dad. My Grandfather passed when I was turning 7 in 1974, but my Grandmother lived until 1997. He was a woodsman and then later a carpenter. He, my Dad and two Uncles built the McCain houses of McCain foods. This was quite a thing in the area where I grew up. She was a hard woman, and spent some time in psychiatric facilities over the years. They were married when she was very young and he was quite a bit older. She tried to suffocate my youngest uncle when he was a baby and at one time tried to stab my Grandfather. She wasn't this way when I knew her she was just very hard to please. I spent a lot of time with her because she was so lonely so I ended up being spoiled by her too until I reached my teen years. When I became interested in boys she became very judgmental of me. I still did my duty, but didn't like it as much. She developed dementia and spent her last years in a nursing home.
Love these trips down memory lane, I need to get some of these things written down so my girls know their history.

I did an hour on the bike. Yoga is fantastic, but it is not a great calorie burner.
DH has just had a phone call from our painter/decorator/friend. He was going to the cricket test match on Friday with DH (England v India) , but has had a really bad flare up of rheumatoid arthritis and can hardly walk. The ticket is ยฃ55 . He will pay for it, but DH is trying to find a substitute. The friend's mother died recently at 95 and that has set off the RA.
I am driving DH etc to the match and will get as near to the ground as possible, but it will be horribly busy. They are laying on Park and Ride buses. Picking him up will be a nightmare.
Thursday I am going to Portsmouth on the train to see my friend and have lunch at the fish restaurant.
This morning I emailed the solicitor (without telling DH) to nag him and he replied to say that they are about to pass the case on to the exchange dept once they have double checked everything. Keeping everything crossed.
Katla - Definitely think you should make that road trip. It will be nice to have your own space to retreat to.

Rita will have to answer the question, "What is a hosting job" herself, but from my experience many campgrounds have campground hosts who are usually couples, or even several couples for larger campgrounds, who welcome guests, tell guests about the facilities, attractions, etc., and generally monitor things so that everyone has a pleasant and peaceful stay.
In exchange, I think they either get reduced camping rates, or don't pay anything at all.
Machka in Oz
Machka and HOSTING this is exactly correct. In New Mexico we get free camping, with full hookups. There is another couple here for the rest of this week, then we take over by ourselves after Labor Day weekend.

Ps. Pics to come. Been busy!4 -

Ps.. some hosting jobs pay a small stipend along with camping. Depends on duties.

I am so fortunate that I have a simple life so if I doze on and off all day and night, it's not problem. I am also grateful that I can read without my glasses so if I fall asleep while reading, I don't end up wearing my glasses for extra hours while I sleep. A friend came for a quick visit to bring me the groceries I asked for---two peaches and three tomatoes and said I owed her nothing, that they were instead of bringing flowers. She helped me walk the dog and picked the two zucchini on my plant. I had one of them in an omelette for lunch.8

Heather: Iโm keeping your real estate deal and move in my very best thoughts.
Karen: What a lovely girl. Redheads are often extremely smart. Get ready. . . PS Many US Presidents had red hair including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Iโm having trouble getting a complete list at this time. Maybe your Olivia will be the first red haired woman President.
My son, DDIL and grandson are here. Yesterday we went to Cannon Beach and had a wonderful time. Today weโre at home, and his best friend from grade school will be here with his family. They plan to take the sail boat out for a sail. The sails themselves are in very poor condition, but everything else is ship shape. My guess is that theyโll end up motoring.

Oh dang. I turned this morning and my world spun. Vertigo is back with a vengeance!๐ฅ๐ข๐
I did my maneuvers this morning, letting my husband see my eyes as they swirl. He felt so bad for me, patting my arm as I counted to 30. Its tough to do then as I feel so sick afterwards! But I have to do them!

Do they know what is causing the vertigo? I can't imagine having to deal with this regularly.

Rebecca - are you having any hearing loss or ringing in the ears with this? I had Meniere's many decades ago and vertigo was a part of it, I remember the ENT had me on diuretic's for a while. I sure hope you get over this episode quickly and STAY over it forever.
Glad your DH is supportive, I'm sure he wishes he could wave a magic wand.
It's frustrating and depressing to be caught up in it. Sending healing thoughts your way!!!
HUGS!

I have been journaling my food and my rescue dog takes me for walks so I am so blessed. Met with friends for lunch and recorded everything and still have a little bit of calories left for dinner. Hope your day has been blessed

Karen, oh I love Olivia's hair color. What a sweetheart. Thanks for sharing.
BTW I love C'oeur d'Alene. When my girls were babies we lived just over the Idaho border in Liberty Lake WA. We'd drive over there every chance we got .

Hi all: Nessa had an early morning grooming appointment. She looks so lovely now except for her ears. She has been chewing off the ends of both. The groomer tried to even them up but they are pretty short. Dson stopped by last evening to chat and show off his new Audi while DGD was at swim team practice. It was nice to see him. DGD is going to stay with us for a few days in September and we will celebrate her birthday then. She is going to be 14. It is really warm today but supposed to cool off again. I had to go into town today to pick up a Rx and since this is county fair time it was crazy with traffic. The fairgrounds are of course between us and town.
Wendy - I had a standard poodle but she died in December of last year. My best friend bred her labradoodle and insisted I needed one of the puppies. So Nessa came to live at our house in February. Her parents were about 40 and 45 pounds but she is already up to 49 pounds at 8 months. We completed puppy class and are waiting for a basic obedience class to be offered.
Rebecca - Sending healing angels your way. Hope this goes away soon.
NYKaren - Sounds like you had a wonderful trip. Enjoying all the pictures.
Rita - Love the street lamp. LOL
Everyone take care, Sue in WA0 -
Hello Everyone - I am new here. August goals have been met, in that I continue stay with my plan and am losing weight. My September goals is that I kick up my workouts. I'd like to regularly hit 10k steps, get to 20 pushups/day and lose 5 pounds4

No ringing in my ears. I have only gone to the doctor once here. He just hemmed and based and told me to do this maneuver.

Sooo, the scale is not moving for me. But, I am not letting that slow me down. Since August 1, I have actually gained two pounds which is extremely discouraging and I don't really understand it, because some clothes I wore on vacation at the beginning of July that were pretty tight are now hanging on me. So, that mean old scale needs to play nicely.
On the positive side this month, I have increased my time on elliptical and recumbent bike to 10 minutes each. I have made it to 45 minutes on my home walking video which says it is a 5K, but my pedometer says is 1.4 miles, so I must take small steps, but over the month I have increased from 15 to 45 minutes. I have added a beginner dance video that is 15 minutes and today tried the 30 minute one for the first time although I only made it 17 minutes, it is definitely harder. I also am doing some strength training with weights and have been out for two good walks in the "wild" on 3 mile nature trails. Considering I was doing nothing for quite a while prior to this month, I am pleased with myself.
I also made some positive steps in reaching out to my dr and have now gotten a referral to a nutritionist. I also have an appt for early October for a weight management program orientation. And, I made a general dr appt for late Sept. to get labs all caught up.
I have been really curtailing my carbs (for me) and I am working to stay below 150 on those which is mid way on the National Diabetes counts and my fasting blood sugar is now in the high range of normal for diabetics. I am struggling to stay at 1200 calories though and am usually around 1500 per day instead, so I guess this is why I am not losing. I am also struggling to get enough protein and hope the nutritionist can help.
Would really like to be seeing some numbers change on the scale, but overall I am pleased with the progress I have been making this month.
Beginning to think about what my Sept. goals will be.

Thank you for allowing me to share my rainbow story...
Love the stories about the grandparents/family. Absolutely, you must all write it down for future generations. When I was about 13 my grandmother sat with me an told me family stories about the Civil War. I wrote down everything she said...and now have them forever in my very childish smiley/hearts writing!
KarenNY ... beautiful photos worthy of framing!
