Karen in VA Olivia the miracle baby! I'd vote for her! Coeur d'alene is beautiful but OH that winter!
Barbie fresh produce in lieu of flowers and helping you walk the dogs... now that is a friend indeed!
Rebecca does  nausea accompany the vertigo? Time for a 2nd opinion?
Dee I'd take looser clothes over whatever that mean ol' scale says any day. Well done!
Beth Thankful for successful surgery, praying "no infection" continues throughout healing.
pip we lost a dear friend to MS. ditto Katla's thanks to you for riding in the MS ride.
Katla after a year of only antenna TV back in Idaho, and waiting 2 months to get cable and internet to our new home, we are now hooked on My DVR. We love fast forwarding through all those commercials. Joe says "They're outside, smiling, having fun... somebody must be sick!" Somewhat dread when the free DVR promotion expires and they start charging $12.95 a month, but it worked, we're hooked.
SueBDew what a rough couple of days. Hoping September will be better for you!
Wendy thanks for leading us on to further self-education! "moderate carb consumption - or switching meat for plant-based protein and fats - is healthier." KJ's right, it sounds like Mama's "moderation in all things." Mother really did know best!
Michele safe travels! Take pics please
Heather, ditto what Karen in VA said. Marveling at how complicated buying a house in the UK is. Fingers X'd for you galfriend!
Allie what brand umbrella? I'd write to the manufacturer, and for sure post a review. That stinks!
Lisa con VERY grats on the new pants size!
Suanough what is WFPB food plan? Glad it's working for you!
KJ ditto about genetics and longevity. Would add lifestyle choices, as a grateful ex-smoker
Welcome trespence, let us know what you'd like us to call you and roughly where you are.
Welcome Ann. Let us know roughly where youare. Getting your mind right is key, and for me a daily re-try. ;} I had to pick one thing I knew I could succeed at (logging every bite and sip whether over under or indifferent) and do it for a week. Then building on that success with one more thing. I'm at 310 consecutive days and the most recent "try" has me down almost a pound a month. Dr. is v. pleased and said "keep doing what your doing."
Speaking of the Dr., at yesterday's sleep study follow up, got good/bad/great news. No need for CPAP. Oxygen down around 85, so Dr. wants me on oxygen when sleeping, warned of the effects low oxygen has on heart/circulatory system. Bit of a facer. Afraid (there's that word again) it's the first official notice of what may be COPD. IF Medicare approves, my copay will be about $30/month, as our Part B supplemental Plan F has a high ($2K) deductible to keep the premiums down to around $100/mo. And the concentrator is noisy, which may bother Joe, he's v. sensitive to noise. Gotta focus on the pound a month improvement that so pleased the Dr. and let the oxygen issue develop in it's own time.
Lighter, lovelies!

Good morning and I am thankful for every day I wake up. My Retina Specialist that I didn’t get to see Tuesday ( saw a Fellow) called me yesterday to say he was sorry nobody told him about my problem and he could have seen me yesterday in Ft Worth which is an hour closer for me. Every person I talked to on Monday said they would be sure he knew about the situation.
Kelly- I was hoping the antibiotics would help also but this is a macular degeneration issue. No better yet, in fact somewhat worse as the spots are all over not just at the top. Going to take it easy again today. Didn’t get to sleep until 4:15.
Barbara and Michele- thanks for your concern I appreciate you both.
Allie- Call Amazon customer service and the will send you a mailing label so you won’t have to pay postage. I would send them pictures or whatever they need as they need to stand behind the things they sell.
Be back later

Barbara - so sorry about your COPD. Losing extra poundage and keeping as fit as possible is as much as you can do. (((HUGS)))
Sue - Also hugs go out to you. Vision problems must be so frustrating.
I will see my brother briefly tomorrow when he comes over for the cricket. I am driving them down to a sold out stadium. Aaaargh traffic!!! I am taking some of the price off his ticket as a very late birthday present. I wish I could see him more often, but he is so insanely busy. Six children living in the neighbourhood and ten grand children. Plus very active in the church.
I have managed to find a birthday card suitable for my nephew, 17 on Saturday, and have put money inside. He did very well in his exams. The card is about farts.

Well it has been a busy day.... I am finally home.... was up at the credit union from 10 until 12:30 which was a long time, the check will come to the credit union from Toms 401k and I have it rolled over into an IRA .. once the check clears and gets there , thats when I start making decisions
I am happy that part is over .. supposed to go the a dear friends wake tonight, but think I will just send a card to each of his daughters... it is still very very hot outside and he was a townie , its what we call people who grew up all there life here like me, so it will be packed and they only let so many people inside.. and the rest get to stand outside and sweat.... nope dont want to do that.
Pip~ awesome good for you.. so proud of what you and Kirby do!!! xoxoxo
my mind is fried this afternoon for all the talk and figuring out money.. so going to relax and take it easy..
ok first picture is Trudy , my friend with dark glasses in front, and Fat Allie in the back smiling behind her..
second picture is first day of 5th grade for Taliah my granddaughter..
By the way that was ladies night out in July for us from our condo complex. the Tiki Taxi came and picked us up and brought us home.. it was a fun night....9 -
Heather: I am utterly gobsmacked at the complexity of your real estate system. Sending good thoughts that the chain of buyers and sellers holds tight and you'll see yourselves in the Hove house soon. By the way, I'm a third of way into the first Winfrith book. I seldom read fiction, but with a holiday weekend coming up, and us having no plans, this will be my escape.
Lisa: You're just amazing. Losing while travelling and working long days...I bow to you.
Katla: I feel for you. My new electronic goodies from Best Buy all came with recommendations to load APPS to my phone for controlling power and volume. Really? I thought that was what remote controls and buttons were for.
Michele: Have a great time in St. Kitts. I'm jealous.
Kelly: Happy Thanksgiving. What a gift you are giving those kids by introducing them to gratitude journals. You rock.
Barbara: Attagurl! Pound a month in a slow, steady, permanent pace is great. I hope you find the best treatment possible for COPD.
Suebdew: Owww! So sorry about your retina issues.
Rebecca: I'm queasy just reading about your symptoms. Hope you will find relief, and better yet, a permanent solution soon.
Pip: We hope you'll post photos of yourself in your MS Ride jersey. Well deserved!
I'm having knee issues. Arthritis was diagnosed 10 years ago, but it never bothered me. Since I've been doing some vigorous water exercises, it's nagging me all the time. I tried taking 1/2 teaspoon of tumeric daily, and after a few days I found that ALL my joints hurt, so backed off that. Otherwise, I feel great. August has been a pretty good month. As we are to the end, I'll post my resolutions and report card now:
August resolutions:
> Meditate and practice Reiki daily A
> Swimming and aquatics everyday, if possible B
> Embrace and appreciate being able to serve as a caregiver C+ This is hard for me...
> Start on scanning family album #2 F I'm stalling on the scannng project. Gotta get with it.
> Be lighter A down .8 I didn't measure but sure seems like my clothes are looser
Word for 2018 = Release
Stay well friends. We can do this.

Lisa . Hey hey, new pant size is a huge (I mean smaller?) NSV
LOVED my lunch today, straight from the garden—diced cucumber, zucchini, tomato then added red onion and hummus on flat bread—super easy and fun lunch. A big batch of homemade low fat plain yogurt (thanks Instant Pot!) is how I start my day. I have to pack both breakfast and lunch if I workout before work so far so good!

Thanks, guys! I appreciate the positive reinforcement. I am actually setting foot outside the house now, after a ten-hour day, to go get dishwasher soap, because I just realized I've had two days off out of the last 19, and I could use a break. Whee! Walmart, here I come!

In process of emptying entire huge French door refrigerator today. Compressor is failing and food spoiling. Less than 2 years old. So disgusted. So thankful my partner and I are doing this together as it is a thankless, onerous task even without the spoiling food. Heather & hubby did this recently & I was thinking I was glad I wasn't doing that task, LOL!

Hi all: Went to YM for water exercise this morning and then to cardiologist appointment. This month has not been good for exercising. I had my sister here for two weeks with her broken leg and then went on vacation for two weeks. Did not get to the YM nearly enough. Hoping to get back on a schedule now.Ejection fraction (the amount of blood pumped with each beat) for my heart has dropped since last test several years ago. It is now in the low normal range. He now wants to do a stress test since it has been seven years since my last one. But BP and cholesterol are good.
Margaret - Love the picture.
Rebecca - Wish things were going better for you.
Lisa - Wow! You deserve a break.
KJ - I like that you are teaching your kids to think about things they are thankful for.
Barbie - Bernie and Bessie look like they are enjoying keeping you company while you rest.
Pip - I agree. We need pictures of you in that jersey.
SueBDew - Sending healing angels. Eye problems are really scary.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA6 -
Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD., nausea only happens after my maneuvers, which means they're working👍. I am able to move my head around better, ears feel a bit filled with cotton. No real ringing in my ears though. I am going to get my prescription refilled for Meclizine 25 mg for vertigo, when I had it last.. I have been taking my husband's because he was prescribed the exact same thing, for his bout earlier this month.
Last night we had a BAT in the house! I, of course, freaked out, and hid in the bathroom! Son and awakened husband, corralled it into the library with wide arm movements, and afgans held up. I have no clue as to where it came from! I know outside, but no windows, no attic doors, ceiling openings etc! If we see one again, we will call the management office.
Today is husband's 58th birthday 🎂💗. I let him lick the bowl, and made him a round layer chocolate, devils food cake, with chocolate frosting. I used parchment paper, and it came out beautifully! I had just enough frosting to pack into the sides, inside, on on top! He had some frosting from the frig, from when he made his Graham cracker cookies. Its in the frig firming up.
He wanted pizza for dinner, so that's easy. I fixed him a large steak last night. He made the naked potato, and I fix the steak. Last night I was so out of it, I put a chair in the kitchen, with my head on the island, and dealt with life that way. Once the steak was completely browned, I took it out and sliced it up, placing the still very pink steak back into the pan. Then its just a couple of minutes until in a nice rare. I said goodnight for a bit and tested upstairs. I came down at 7:30 pm, and had some cereal. I haven't cared about anything eating wise. I have been just eating, sleeping, and coping. Vertigo is debilitating! Today I took a nice long shower, fixed my hair, and so that's a good first step!
Had a nice call from middle son wishing his Dad happy birthday!! We talked, and he's such a nice adult. We talked about his younger brother, and I think if my youngest son has the support of his two brothers, and us, he should get thru his issues just fine. He has Japan to look forward to! Hoping he is able to see us all before he heads over there. This momma needs to see him before he does his 4 years of duty there! Hopefully when he gets higher up in the roster, he can get a month off and have no problems using MAC flights coming home. The thing is you have to give yourself a week to travel, with all the bumping, and waiting.
We used MAC once, and we started off at Yokota AFB. We landed in the Philippines, got bumped off, waited a day. Then got a flight to Guam, got bumped off, waited a day. Then we decided to just go civilian. So we traveled back to Yokota AFB, spent the night and took a bus to the Narita Airport. There we took a civilian 19 hour flight home. Its not easy to travel from Japan to stateside!
Hmm I can hear my cake calling me from the couch!
Hugs to everyone that needs one!

Rebecca - Great cake!
Taking DH up our tea in a moment. Early exercising then getting ready for brother and DSIL to arrive for the cricket. It may be that she can take them down on her way home, but I will get prepared. England didn't do too well in the batting yesterday, but not a disaster. DH won't see them bat.
I hope to get a run in after lunch.
I have emailed solicitor and estate agent at 6 am this morning. Just to get it out of my system.

Morning! make sure all you newbies find us again on next month's thread. Our fearless leader barbie will post the new September thread later tonight.
Glad that it's Friday, DH and I have plans to run errands together (we both have a 1/2 day of work) and then settle up on the bills to pay for the trip, time to pay the piper

Katla - Have you got a photo of your grandson? If you don't want to post one because of privacy, that's fine.

she was so hyped up for this past vacation she forgot to pay me for one of the weeks I worked...UGHHH
Oh well I straightened that out.. will get a check today..
have a 3 day weekend , and this weekend we need to get the rest of the stuff out of dads house and on the market toot sweet, it needs to be sold...pronto
p.s.~ got an email from the umbrella company they are sending me a brand new one..9 -
OK girls, just got a phone call to say that our buyer's buyer has pulled out of the chain. ...........................!¡!¡!¡
Silver lining is that our buyer is prepared to refinance and take out a new mortgage so they can buy ours without selling theirs. This will take around two weeks to arrange they think. #×+÷%=~<▪
I'm just hoping the onward chain will hold ok.
To say I'm fed up is an understatement.
I had a feeling about the buyer's buyer. I'm usually right about these things.
Can't do anything but roll with it. Hope the patience stretches down the chain.
Haven't told DH who is hopefully enjoying himself at the cricket. Tonight will be soon enough.

Merry Christmas! lol Happy Friday, all! Tim was out when I began my decorating last night, so when he walked into the living room all decorated for Christmas, he just looked at me. Then he said, "You don't do this for the kids, do you?" lol I was definitely in my happy place last night with a mini tree with lights standing in the corner surrounded by presents, a few Christmas decorations on the mantle and above the tv. Jingle bells on the door knob and a wreath hanging on the door. I baked a small ham last night for the kids lunch today, and made a dozen sugar cookies for decorating. When he walked in I had a Christmas movie playing and a cup of hot cocoa in my hand (not on my meal plan; but worth the splurge). Bliss!
I have decided that the robins egg blue of my living room is going to look really nice at Christmas time. I wasn't sure, but it's going to be fine. (My walls used to be yellow)
About the gratitude journals/thankful books for the kiddos. YOu all give me too much credit. IF you worked with small children for many years, you would notice quickly how self absorbed they are (they are kids and haven't learned to think about others yet, so not really their fault) and the holidays bring on "the gimmies" for those over age three. Years ago, I started having the kids make thankful books at Thanksgiving. I also do monthly "trees". For instance, September will have an apple tree hanging on my wall. Each day I will ask the kids what they like about fall and write their answer on an apple cut out and hang it on the tree. October is "what do you like about October", November is "What are you thankful for?", December is "What do you want to GIVE for Christmas?". For my own sanity, I had to get them to start thinking of others because I couldn't handle hearing "I want, I want, I want..." anymore!
Which brings to mind, I am in the process for forming a partnership with one of our local assisted living centers. I have organized three other daycare homes and what we are proposing is having each daycare home visit the center once a month for a multi generational craft, activity, music time (probably a one and a half-two hour visit). I am really excited about this, because this was one of the things I wanted to accomplish with our provider network that started last November! Sorry...babbling...but really a multi-generational experience...!!!!
I can't believe August is almost done! This summer flew by; but I am ready for fall.
Hugs to all that need them! I have a busy day ahead, so I better scoot! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)7 -
Ugh! Heather! My hats off to you. That chain would drive me crazy! BUT, it sounds as if your buyers really want your place! Fingers crossed for you!1
-
Heather - hope it all works out, and the rest of your chain holds... bless your heart, what a frustrating experience!
KJ - My hat stays off to you. I'd be hiding in the closet at the end of the day hoping the littles wouldn't find me.
Family is headed this-a-way from over in Oklahoma this morning, got a four-day weekend of accomplishing stuff ahead of me... Can't wait!
In the meantime, I've got to sit down and get the plan of work sorted for the next fiscal year, so it won't leap up and bite me next week. Gonna be an interesting week or two ahead of us.
Love y'all,
Seeya in September!
Lisa in AR4 -
Had a call from our vendor's agent today to say the vendors are willing to hold on for us "because they've been so nice". Of course they are just as frustrated as we are.
I've just posted a side/hall table on Freecycle and someone is coming to collect it right now. Had two applicants. It's a great upcycling project.
