2nd day of intermittent fasting. I'm doing 14/10 (read it was better than 16/8 for women) and so far I'm just really hungry. I've been used to eating breakfast for years so it's rough getting up and waiting hours to eat. I don't think I ate enough yesterday, so I'm going to try to eat a little more and at least get to my calorie goal. I'm going to commit to it for a week.and then decide if it's for me. So far it's not looking good. Lol
I would recommend you drink apple cider vinegar and green tea during your fasted period. Both are great for curbing hunger, especially apple cider vinegar. They are also both great detoxers. Some days I fast for nearly 24 hours with minimal hunger by consuming both of those. Also, if you do buy apple cider vinegar I would recommend you dilute it with water and drink it with a straw. ACV can be a little rough on your teath so drinking it with a straw will help minimize contact with your teeth. The first week or two are the most difficult to overcome but then your body gets use to it and it's almost effortless. It will feel more like a lifestyle change in eating habits. Continue monitoring calories during during your eating window which is obvious we are all doing, being that that's the whole purpose of this app haha. @SuzOh

They really don't. It's really popular to say on "pop" diet fad web sites that they do, but there is no evidence that's the case. Usually the idea is that they increase metabolism, but that's actually pretty easy to measure, and they don't help.

IF is a great strategy for a lot of people, there's no reason to get it mixed up in lots of unfounded diet industry woo. I do want to add some people simply can't do IF, whether for health reasons (like low blood sugar) or lifestyle or appetite issues, and they shouldn't be made to feel like they just have to try harder or are doing it wrong.10 -

You can try an earlier eating window (don't eat late instead of not eating early) or maybe it just isn't right for you. The key is finding a way of eating (meal schedule, macro distribution, etc) that makes it as easy as possible for you to hit the right calories and feel energetic and happy. There's no one right way. I drifted into IF when I realized I was basically forcing myself to eat breakfast. So I just started eating at lunchtime. But recently I found myself starving every morning, so I went back to eating breakfast. Hasn't changed my calorie needs at all. Good luck!7 -

What do you mean by "it works"? It works if it helps control hunger and calories. But there is not evidence that it does more than that. I've done it for years. If I eat in the morning, I am hungrier all day long. But I can put off eating without hunger indefinitely. I usually eat a moderate protein based mid day meal and a substantial dinner. Tonight was a 12 oz NY strip with roasted fingerling potatoes, grilled baby onions and a salad with a couple of glasses of wine. Stayed within my calories for the day. So, it worked.
Not everyone is like me. Some people need to eat in the morning for whatever reason. Blood sugar, habit, energy level, whatever. For them, IF doesn't work. There is nothing more to it than that. There is no magic and I can't really comment in any kind of charitable way to the woo and myth by the poster quoted by AnvilHead, so let my lack of comment speak for itself.4 -

Some caffeine, yes. Caffeine makes me jittery and my brain interprets that as hungry. So for me, green tea could cause weight gain. I wouldn't go so far as to make that a universal claim for all people.1 -

Yes. Somewhere around 15-25% of the amount of caffeine found in coffee. And there's no evidence that coffee significantly affects weight loss either. But I suppose if you wanted to drink a few gallons of green tea per day, it may speed up your metabolism enough to maybe amount to burning an extra 10-15 calories or so per day. Which is far inside the error you'll find in measuring your foods, even with a food scale.
Caffeine has been found to be mildly helpful with weight loss. But the amounts used are far in excess of what you'd get from drinking a cup (or even a few cups) of green tea. The green tea thing is just another silly Dr. Oz myth, like raspberry ketones, green coffee bean extract, hoodia, etc..8 -

There is some evidence that ACV helps but its because it makes you nauseous. So drinking it can make you feel sick and not comsume calories in ab litibum eating, lol.

There has to be some truth to caffeine curbing appetite that's why it's in a lot of weight loss pills.
I know if I drink coffee my appetite and cravings are gone..and Diet Coke.

Because the only way you lose weight is by consuming less calories than you expend. Period.
Well if it helps to curb appetite, then it does help in weightloss.

Doesn't green tea have caffine in it ?
Yes. Somewhere around 15-25% of the amount of caffeine found in coffee. And there's no evidence that coffee significantly affects weight loss either. But I suppose if you wanted to drink a few gallons of green tea per day, it may speed up your metabolism enough to maybe amount to burning an extra 10-15 calories or so per day. Which is far inside the error you'll find in measuring your foods, even with a food scale.
Caffeine has been found to be mildly helpful with weight loss. But the amounts used are far in excess of what you'd get from drinking a cup (or even a few cups) of green tea. The green tea thing is just another silly Dr. Oz myth, like raspberry ketones, green coffee bean extract, hoodia, etc..
Well maybe a bit more because of the calories burned from having to walk to and from the loo with all that extra liquid...1 -

There has to be some truth to caffeine curbing appetite that's why it's in a lot of weight loss pills.
I know if I drink coffee my appetite and cravings are gone..and Diet Coke.
Caffeine is in diet pills because it makes you feel energetic and maybe a little jumpy, which makes people think their metabolism has been increased. Most things "work" because once you've spent money on losing weight, you try harder to stick to your diet and exercise plans, and THAT is what causes you to lose weight. Plus the placebo effect.
I do feel that caffeine can be a mild appetite suppressant, but I doubt it's universal, and rather than waste money on diet products, I just drink a cup of coffee.
You know all those clickbait articles and ads that say "The one weight loss tip THEY don't want you to know!". "They" is the diet industry, and the "tip" is that you don't have to buy anything to lose weight. :drinker:
And on topic, intermittent fasting is free! You don't have to buy special food or drink anything nasty, just try an eating window and see if it helps6
