Glad to be here. After close to 50 years of drinking, there were some really heavy decades of abuse, I read Rational Recovery (yeah, I'd done 4 years in AA-sorry it's not a disease, cirrhosis is a disease) and have been sober for months. I know longer have to sacrifice food to satiate my drinking desires. I'm free.12

@lorrainequiche59 That was so sad to be at the funeral and to see all the grieving friends and family. My sympathies to you.
@errydayimmusclin Bravo! You still had a good time sober and no hangover! Happy for you!
Sober Super Bowl Monday- I am grateful to be awake, heading to work with no headache this year (or last). I saw a lot of drinking at the party last night. I drank a liter of Perrier. Hope your weekend was nice! And if today is your Day1, 10, 60 .... make it a great one. Today is all we have. Xo10 -
It was odd yesterday evening to be at a Super Bowl party without an adult beverage in hand. But I noticed there were a few water/lemonade drinkers like myself. I never noticed before. But this morning I got the reward I was hoping for...10 AF later, I no longer need BP meds. I am 100% med free
On the down side, I am no longer taking a diuretic and have gained 2 pounds because of it.
On the plus side - everything!14 -
@errydayimmusclin Proud of you too
@RubyRed427 Thank you. The actual funeral is this morn, which I'm not attending. My daughter will be there though. Sadly it's the same minister who they got for a family member who overdosed a few months back and who offered little comfort because she spent most of her time berating the deceased for causing so much pain to his family...unbelievable that they would get the same person...anyway to each his own.
I was talking with someone at the viewing yesterday who had visited my ex in the jail he is serving his impaired driving sentence of 40 days..with good behaviour he`ll be out in 17. It is apparently the largest max/med security jail in Canada and the worst jail in Canada. There is a lockdown every other day due to riots & shortage of staff. The conditions are appalling and this person said, that my ex is having a difficult time with it all. There will be no trip for him to pay his respects to his brother because the powers that be do not care...no compassion is the order of the day...BUT little wonder that working in that type of environment over an extended period of time may make a person jaded.
Anyway, most who I spoke with yesterday about him are hopeful but doubtful he will reform himself once he gets freed. One person said 50/50 chance, just not sure what side of 50!! ALL due to alcohol...drinking & driving in Canada is a CRIMINAL offence and you get treated just like a criminal if you get caught. They don`t care whether you are a murderer or a drunk, you get treated the same. For him it was ALL because of alcohol...9 -
Okay no drinking for me. I have felt great about all the wonderful changes I made at the beginning of the year. I drank two glasses of wine last night and of course wanted more. Family called with not good news and decided to hit the bar and had a shot of jack. Needless to say, I need to stay away from alcohol. It doesn’t work for me and I have a bad relationship with it. We had some family stuff come up last month and with no drinking handled it just fine. I am stepping up and committing to myself that alcohol is not a good choice for me. I have regrets of things I said last night and went for a noon workout.
Mad and angry at myself, however, not going to stay there and motivated and to continue on my AF life.12 -
@ed_zilla. Awesome!! All the positives of not drinking!3

Yep, that's the realization I had to come to myself as well.....Alcohol is just no good for me. And being left with regrets of things you said or did while under the influence, is a horrible feeling, that you can't take back. I'm glad you've decided to hop back on the AF train! I'm right there with ya! You've got this!9 -

Hang in there! Great resolve! Sometimes it takes some time to be 100% sure!5 -
@Fitness327wk Stuff happens and THEN....it's over...this is over & you're moving in the right direction for you...It`s ok to be angry with yourself and you`ve decided to learn from it and move on...
@errydayimmusclin Happy ~no hangover~ Isn`t it awesome to wake up and have NO regrets
@Ed_zilla Congrats on the no meds!!! That's celebration worthy!

Went to have a much needed nap later this aft & went to put my pup on the foot of my bed and it was soaking wet & as I stepped on the carpet got a wet sock & felt a drip on my head...there was water dripping out of the sprinkler...a bit later I noticed a bubble expanding from the ceiling down the wall...hours later & a huge hole in my ceiling & repair guys back to patch things up tomorrow....so much for my much needed nap!!! This is turning out to be one of those weeks BUT you know what? This TOO shall pass
Everyone sounds like they`re doing really good. Have a good night`s rest and productive/relaxing day tomorrow10 -
All, thank you! 🤗👏6

Had to switch from "maintain" to "weight loss" today. Weight climb from no BP meds is now +4 pounds. That'll be off shortly.
Talked with my wife yesterday about the AF transformation. In dollars and cents, the money savings is going to be about $400 for the annual doctor visit and BP meds and probably close to $2,000/year in savings from not buying liquor.
Bottom line is - Going AF is going to enable us to do more nice things with the money we will be saving.10 -

Next time someone tries to push alcohol on you, simply say sorry, can’t. I’m allergic to alcohol. And leave it at that. Walk away.8

I really feel like I have some allergy to alcohol, at least the beer I'd drink cuz as soon as I'd drink a few sips my throat itches,I start sneezing and my eyes swell but who knows, better to just avoid it for me,everyone sounds fab! Have a great AF day8 -

That’s ok. I think you are stronger than last year. You may not slide down into the abyss. For the next few days, get back on track , fight the urges and see what happens. Hugs!9 -
I liked all the tips!! Drinking water at 4:00 was a simple good idea. Xo4 -

Good point. My sister used to say “I have an ulcer.” And people would not press on. Allergy is good too.4 -

Sounds like you do have an allergy. I know a friend who is a wine aficionado ... huge, fancy, temperature regulated wine cellar. Then, he developed an allergy to wine!! So, if he does have wine, he has to take an antihistamine. How ironic.6 -
I’m doing fine. Today at work, I was thinking you know instead of working out, I’ll just mosey to my fav happy hour. Then, my brain said, “Go workout first and if you feel like wine, then have it.” Of course after my workout, I had no desire. Good night, friends.13

one psychological issue i have is that i like very well defined goals to succeed...so dry decemer worked, then going back to back 2 months worked.....my mental issue is that now that i have had a drink in Feb in my mind this month has been tarnished and i cant do a dry February...
so if anyone can give me a new interesting goal that will allow for that one eff-up, i would be grateful5 -
@NormInv
We all know the race to the goal is often not a straight line. You had a misstep 2 days ago - so what! You are on 2 days AF today! Winners recover and and get back on track. Two prior months AF tells me that you are a winner.
I do better with goals as well. Let's pick a goal together. What do you suggest?

Morning all,@Normnlv I'm like that too, kinda like well I drank may as well keep on til the next month, ugh, the starts and stops I've had these past few years are ridiculous! Did anything trigger you? Or was it just a fluke? I hope you can get your momentum going again RubyRed,great job on getting thru the thought, darn brains! Some of our thoughts are just put there I swear, waves to all and wishes for a happy AF day!4

Thanks for the kind words. I thought about it and my new goal is to make the rest of Feb AF despite the hiccup. Lets do that!5 -

I'm not sure what an interesting goal would be to you, but I remember a concept that Melodie Beattie relates in her book "The Language of Letting Go. The purpose is to practice the positive and to get us unstuck. " It's 'Acting as if.' It is a positive form of pretending...it can be helpful when a feeling begins to control us. We make a conscious decision to act as if we feel fine and are going to be fine.
When a problem plagues us, acting 'as if' can help us get unstuck. We act as if the problem will be or already is solved, so we can go on with our life...it is a positive way to overcome fears doubts, and low self-esteem. We open up to the positive possibilities of the future, instead of limiting the future by today's feelings and circumstances. Acting as if helps us get past shaky ground and into solid territory.
