I think I've hit the wall for 4 am wakeups. I will have to dig deep to go after work. I'm usually exhausted by the time I get home.10

To all those with the wireless ear-buds: I have a pair that I've been using for a while now that I got for $5 from 5 Below. I understand that yes, you get what you pay for, but quite honestly, the only issues I've had so far is 1: not water proof, 2: only 2 hours on a charge and 3: I have my phone in a waist pouch, and on occasion, they will do the cutting in & out if the phone is too far away (if It is on the other side of the body, for example). I usually have only 1 bud in (my right ear) and the phone on my right hip.
Do the newer buds - like the AfterShokz or MPow Flames for example - have issues like that or is it just cause I'm cheap that that is a problem?3 -

9/20-23- feeling sick. pushing back my training plan a week. fever, aches, headache, runny nose, cough, scratchy throat. i have a half a peck of macintosh and jonamacs to keep the dr away. I am feeling my hike from saturday. my garmin said i did 10 flights of stairs up. i didn't turn on the hike feature, it would have been nice to know what that translates into as elevation change.
i might try to get a 5k in later. i will be eating popcorn pork belly hopefully tonight.
if i mow on a regular basis with a reel mower, is that considered cross training? cause that needs to happen in the next day or 2 as well. living by yourself has many good things about it but no one to help with the chores can make things difficult when it's chores or a run

Plan this am was to do 2.5 miles. However, forgot to do my inhaler, and was just having a hard time breathing today! I was gasping like a fish...ahhh fun times! But at least I ran.

I have the aftershokz trek minis and haven't noticed any of those issues. I sweat a lot and just wipe them off when I get home. I usually have my podcasts downloaded but when I do my audiobooks its streaming and never had an issue with connection. Streaming music isn't bad either. I've noticed a couple hiccups when buffering but Amazon does that on my phone when I'm not using headphones too.
I did once run out of battery on my long run but I didn't know how to check the battery level. 😂2 -
@dreamer12151 I had issues with every pair I had. They sounded horrible, they cut out, my sweat killed them. Any or all of the above. I now have the bose soundsport wireless. Waterproof or at least they haven't died yet. They have lasted longer than other I had. By the time I kept replacing them all, I could have had a couple of these. I asked for them as a gift, though because they are expensive.1

My headphones are actually waterproof, as in submersible. Most are "sweatproof" - which means "you can lightly splash them and be okay" - those always fail for me. Jaybird, Jlabs, etc. None hold up for long.
But, yes, every problem you mentioned I have had with lots of different BT headsets of various price points. There are very very few good ones. The Plantronics Backbeat that I and a couple others here use and are good. There are two or three other brands that get mentioned in this thread regularly but I doubt any of them cost $5

I bought the Anker SoundBuds Slim Wireless in May, and they have held up in the rain so far. I paid $30 Cdn. I mostly listen to audiobooks. I have small ears, and they came with different sized tips and the smallest are very comfortable for me. A little wire connects them and has a clip.
My husband has the Plantronics Bluetooth ones for over a year. He paid $115 Cdn. He loves them, and the sound quality seems good. They must also be waterproof as we live in Raincouver and he runs in the rain much of the time. I also like that the behind the head wraparound arm is reflective, since he mostly runs in the dark.
Today, I had my Garmin set for C25K Week 6 Day 1, but when it came time for the walk break, I decided I felt good enough to keep going. Progress. Anyway, I repeated Week 5, Day 3: 20 mins run, 5 mins walk, 5 mins run.
I get one more run before my wide-excision surgery on Wednesday, so it is unlikely I will reach my goal unless the surgeon tells me I can exercise shortly after.

Today I got to run 4.18 miles. I wasn’t sure how it was going to go the day after a long run and I’m still not entirely sure it was a great idea, but so it goes. My right quad has been grumpy on and off since Saturday, but it was my calves that were really unhappy as soon as I started my 5 minute post-run walk home. Tomorrow will almost certainly be a rest day.
I’ve decide to keep this particular 4 mile loop as my easy-to-medium perceived effort route so like last week I didn’t check my watch at all until I got home. Unsurprisingly given my run yesterday my pace was about 20 seconds/mile slower than last week. I also had a pretty solid headwind off the lake today, so it wasn’t just my legs. Mostly my legs, though.
I spent a little time updating my race list with the next few I’m considering but not signed up for yet. I dropped almost $70 on a Captain Marvel running shirt last night so I think I’m going to wait until October to sign up for more races. What prompted me to buy the shirt maybe gets a little political for this group, so let’s just say that I was feeling a little bit depressed by a couple of items in the news and cheered myself up by watching the new Captain Marvel trailer a million times and reading Brie Larson’s Twitter page and decided that giving money to a woman-owed business for a shirt celebrating a female superhero was just what the doctor ordered. The 13th doctor, natch.
@biketheworld: *hugs* I’d be really interested to hear how the coaching works out.
@dreamer12151: I use AirPods and they do not have any of those issues. I’m not sure how much more than two hours the charge will last, but the case is a charger so you can give them extra juice on the go if you’re out for a long time (ETA: I charge the case maybe once a week). I’ve never dropped them in water but they’ve gotten pretty wet sitting next to my face, and I’ve worn them in the rain a few times without issue. I run with them connected to my Apple Watch and they don’t cut out, but they do sometimes get a little fussy about initially connecting. They will cut out if whatever they’re connected to is too far away, but we’re talking maybe 10-15 feet.

On a full charge my flames get about 10-12 hours of play time. They will occasionally have connection issues, but that is typically more my phone needing to update something and being temperamental.1 -

Yeah, it would be fair to note that Bluetooth is a form of radio and all radio can occasionally have hiccups for an uncountable number of reasons. Once or twice a week I might have a connection problem when running under the high tension power lines for example. But it should be a minor issue if at all.0 -

I Have $99 double-ear wireless bluetooth and it cuts out sometimes just turning my head.
Some of the cheapest tech has lasted me years though. I have a pair of ‘free-with-a-purchase’ headphones that are over 5 years old, lived though the abuse of being ‘cheap’ and they are still absolutely static-free, outliving some ‘higher-end’ headphones which were babied but only lasted several months.5 -
Rest day today, early in the final week of taper. It's easier to take it easy while basking in the glow of a well run race from yesterday. Today the team medal shot made it onto Facebook:
That's our 5th runner holding the plaque. The guy next to me wearing a medal is our 4th runner; he won the 65-69 age group as an individual. The other two guys are our first and second runners; team captain is on the end opposite me. Looks like I was the only one to change from the wet singlet to a dry tee between the race and the awards ceremony.19 -
Regarding earbuds - I got 2 pairs of the cheapest $5 pairs. one was awful and died within a few months. The other was great for about a year or so. it now has a loose cable so the left one cuts in and out. and It needs to be close to the source. If I had my phone in my bra or in a arm carrier on the left, the reciever on the right would cut in and out. phone in a running belt midline and it was fine.
My new ones (2 days old) so far are great, no cutting out. beautiful sound (for me, I'm not picky). I got them for half price, around $40usd. but will see what happens. I tend to be pretty brutal to earphones.
Today I nearly skipped out on my scheduled 5k. It was blowing a storm overnight, cold and wet. The wind hadnt let up in the morning but it wasn't as wet. So I went - damn you @PastorVincent you have become a flea in my ear when it comes to crap weather and almost not running lol. The wind was harsh with horizontal rain, and it was FREEZING! Fortunately the rain eased within about 5 minutes, and the wind dropped about 10 minutes after that lol. So the first 2.5k was nasty, but the remaining 2.5 was fine.
I'm happy with the new shoes. A friend showed me a trick on tieing them and I think it made a difference. some much more comfortable!10 -
Heads up for anyone running Wineglass Half or Wineglass Marathon: I learned today that my sister from Nebraska will run (or walk/run) the half. She will get there Friday, because she's smarter than I am about building in time to not be pressured. I won't get there till Saturday. I told my sister if she sees anyone wearing an "Embrace the Suck" shirt they probably know me online as MobyCarp.
If you see anyone wearing GVH maroon and white, they almost certainly know me in real life; but "MobyCarp" won't mean anything to them.9 -
6.2 today in Misty 70 degree weather. Very pleasant. First time ever doing 6+ miles back to back. Feels good to get some relatively longer runs in on a regular basis.

I just signed up for a 30 min slot on Sun 10/14. This is the weekend prior to my race, so want to stick somewhat close to the plan and not overdo it. I will see if I'm also able to the the virtual group runs at the start/finish, but not 100%.
His death really hit me hard since we're close to the same age and he was always motivating and giving great advice. When I started to see Memorial runs on Strava, I looked at the running thread here and got the details and read the obit... such a great human being and is greatly missed.10
