It's September!
Time for a new challenge.
WARNING: Following this thread may be addictive and it get's very talkative. Miss a day and you can be 50 posts behind. This is the most popular challenge on MFP. If you found us in the middle (or end) of the month, you're still welcome to join us. No requirements or special invite needed. Once you post, you're in. And yes, we do this every month.
You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to keep you accountable and enjoy a virtual coffee with your fellow runners after you run. Make new friends and learn a few things.
This is a continuation from the August 2018 Running Challenge which can be found at:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10685375/august-2018-running-challenge/p1
Anyone can join in. New & Old. And if you found this thread late, you can join in at any time.
We have members that are total beginners all the way to Boston Qualifiers and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch.
Here are the details from last month that applies here again.
Anybody want to join me for a running challenge? Set a goal here and mark it every day here. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (If creating one seems difficult, then don't let that stop you. Just type in your daily miles here.)
You can run, walk, or do treadmill. Just be consistent. I am setting a goal for 100 miles. Don't let my high (or low) goal intimidate you. Some can do 25, 50; whatever you like. We can help motivate each other. What do you say? If you are new to running, set a low goal. (You can also log your miles in km's if you choose.) Also, if you rather log your progress by time rather than distance, you are free to do that as well.
You can set your goal now but wait until September 1, 2018 to start logging your runs.
Also, don't forget to join our group which can be found at:
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/21182-monthly-running-challange
(We also have a strava group and Facebook group.)
There you will find lots of good info, and it's a place where everyone can talk to each other for further motivation. It's also a place to find help when there is a problem with this thread.
After you run, come into this thread and post what you did. (don't forget to hit the star in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread) Keep a running tally of what you did this month, and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chat it up even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things to include running. Very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time). Talk about a recent race or one coming up. Ask questions, provide answers, or just learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs, follow what many other people are doing. Even look at last month's thread that I posted above.
*******OPTIONAL TICKER*************
Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account http://www.tickerfactory.com and create your ticker.
Then you need to update it after you do a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your pin in that you set when you created your ticker account.
Then where it says "Your current cumulative value, there is an add button. Just add what you just did and the cumulative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
Now after you added your new miles (or km's) to your ticker you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting on how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the img tags around that link. So it will look, (removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets. ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker.
1: Use the link that ends in .png
2. Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
3. remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
4. YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
By the way, everyone here should consider themselves a runner no matter how fast or slow they are(unless you find a dead body- then you're a mere jogger). No judgment here. We all started somewhere. No comparisons, except to your former self. Don't compare my Chapter 20 to your Chapter 1.

I created it so I get to be first 🤣
I am in for 100 miles again!16 -
September Goal:
200 km (124 miles) total running including a 36 km (22.4 mile) run.8 -
Woo hoo page one!
Well I aimed for 130km in August and got just over half that - 85km due to injury.
Have started HM training this week, so I figure I should be able to do do that this month. So I'm going to try for 140ks... I'll increase slower this time, I promise.6 -
Let's say 100km this month. Ramping up the training plan slightly and hoping not to die in the upcoming races.8
-
Going for 160km this month. Does that mean I get to join the 100 mile club?13
-
100 mile club! That's my goal for September.11
-
September goals: I guess I’m officially “training for a half marathon” now. Huh. Neat! I’ve planned four runs a week, including one tempo, one speed, and one long, much as I’ve been doing the last couple of weeks. I have a 10K in the middle of the month* and another the first weekend of October. All in all, I’ve planned to run almost 100 miles this month. I think my main goal will be 85 miles, with 100 as my stretch goal.
As a side goal (side quest?) I’ve decided to try and run as much of the route of the Twin Cities Marathon as practicable before marathon weekend itself, when I’ll run the 10K on Saturday and volunteer on Sunday. I’ve scheduled runs covering everything but the first and last couple of miles, which are the parts on city streets that aren’t all that great to run unless all the traffic has been diverted for some reason.
* Of course all of the sudden it looks like we might not be able to go on the trip that prompted signing up for the 10K because we found out at 9 PM yesterday that another couple made an offer on the house we're interested in, so now we're up at 4:30 am because who can sleep at a time like this and there's *kitten* to do. Woof.8 -
I'm in! My goal is to run/walk 25km this month using Couch2 5K. 😀12
-
Page 1 for me to.
Not as much running for me this month. Have Half Marathon - City To Bay race on 17th September and then commence holidays. Flying out of Australia to Florida for 3 weeks. Going to have a hunt for a race while over there.
Running distance this month 140 km.12 -
Late October to March = good weather race season again. Getting excited! It’s almost time
September goal miles = 175 / 0 miles-to-date
Upcoming Races:
10/27 = Hill Country Halloween Half Marathon
11/22 = Georgetown Turkey Trot
1/26/19 = Miami Tropical 5K
1/27/19 = Miami Marathon
3/10/19 = ZOOMA half (potentially)10 -

Hello September! Please be kinder to us and provide cooler temps and less humidity.
I am starting marathon training in the middle of this month, and the beginning of the plan is quite a bit less than what I have been doing, but I need to back off anyway due to some on-going niggles in my legs. So I will just keep the monthly goal at 100 miles.
Thank you @shanaber for starting the thread!
ETA: Honestly, my real #1 goal is to stay healthy enough to get all the way through marathon training!10 -
The last 2 years I was training for a fall half marathon and August was highest mileage month at 110 and 126 miles in 2016 and 2017 respectively. This August was 159, and as I'm training for a marathon instead and it's later in October, I should have my peak miles in September.
September goal = 170 miles
That sounds daunting to me. But 5 Saturdays in September for 5 long runs and a marathon in 8 weeks should get me at least that, if I can remain on track. According to my plan, I have 6 really long runs left before starting my taper.
Upcoming races:
9/8/2018 Arc Race - Dunkin Run Half Marathon, Syracuse NY
10/28/18 Marine Corps Marathon, Arlington VA
9 -
The goal for September - get back into running 3-5 days a week. Break out of this mess that has me missing days constantly.
As for miles - not sure yet. Need to get back in control of life first. This is still offseason for me (January is when I get serious about training for the 50k) so probably aim at 30-40 miles/week. For now.10 -
50 Mile Club

I have been an on and off runner for 7 years. I have been “off” for a while. To get back “on” my goal is 60 miles in September.12
-
I missed goal last month due to the blahs. Target was 125km. This month I am NOT running a half marathon but I do start working with a running coach. I think my plan has me around 110km for the month so that's my goal.

Upcoming Races:
Santa Monica Classic | 5K | September 9th, 2018
Los Angeles Marathon | March 24th, 201910 -
New here but have been playing around with running for a few years now. I really need to do a better job committing to it again!! I downloaded C25K again and starting over albeit not from day 1! My goal is to run 25 miles this month, but I also walk a few miles everyday too. My ultimate goal would be to run 2 miles every other day effortlessly and get my exercise done sooner!
Little more about me:- Cat Lover!!!
- 53 years young
- Empty Nester with 6 grandkids!
- Cancer Survivor!
- Bad Back Survivor! (thanks to my chiropractor!)
- Committed to staying healthy from now on - I've had too many problems in the last 5 years!
Looking forward to getting started T O M O R R O W !19 -
I'll optimistically put myself down for 300 miles this month...shorter month, Labor Day weekend, Dr's appointment interfering with things...hence the optimistic bit.15
-
-
I am going for 115 miles for September, with my marathon on the last day of the month to finish it out!13
-
September goals..
Accept progress isn't necessarily linear.
60+ miles this month. Maybe. If my body cooperates. Incorporate more cross training and tolerated PT exercises.
My mantra is f*rt the world, I'ma *kitten* slap this month if it tries to pull me down. 😁15 -
I'm in for 175.11
-
I would like to run 48 miles in September. I would also like to speed my pace up. I am currently running a 10:15 mile. Right now I only run on a treadmill due to my schedule. I am hoping to run a 5K Turkey Trot this year.12
-
I'm in for 85 miles in September.11
-
Throw me in for 60.5 this month. Trying to steadily increase distance by 10% with a goal of making it to 100 miles a month consistently.
10 -
Aiight, I am going for the 100-mile club again this month. Here's to a better September than August. Temps will be a tad lower (I hope). I am also switching marathon plans mid-training, going for a tad less ambitious plan and hoping the speed will still come. I am debating dropping to the half but goddamn it I want to run at least ONE *kitten* marathon!15
-
Looks like I'm back to running just in time to join this thread! I missed out on August with a metatarsal stress fracture, but I'm out of the boot and cleared to run again. I'm setting a tentative goal of 75 miles (I'm hoping to still run the Chicago Marathon in October- the podiatrist said it is possible, but a little risky); my main goal though is just to build mileage as much as I can without re-injuring myself. Anything to stay out of the damn boot!20
