@sarahthes - what a beautiful run!
These came in yesterday's mail - never heard of these socks until some of you recommended them. Purchased one of 3 different "varieties." I figure I'll try them out and order more of my favorite.

First try didn't work. Second one did. BTW, is there no way to delete a post once you saved it? I tried to delete the above fail, but couldn't figure out how.
Nope, you can edit for up to an hour, but not delete.2 -

Well then, guess we'd better review and re-review before hitting that post button. At least we can correct a typo. Hopefully I won't ever post something on here I wish I hadn't.2 -

@quilteryoyo That's where the edit button comes in handy. Delete all the material and insert a emoji then save it.
Of course there's always one of us who might be online and catch it (quote function) and torture you with it - in good humor that is.2 -
Whew intense run! So it didn't rain, but boy did it blow! The first 2k was OK despite being mostly uphill. Then mostly flat for 2k and i thought the wind would be worse cause its on the harbour head
Taken at 3k mark and first turn around point.
Then it's flat for a km then downhill for another km. The remain 5k is mostly flat. I had a cup of water waiting for me at 6km, trying to drink from a cup while running is hard lol. It was feeling really good until the beginning of the 9km when I ended up with a really strong side wind. I had to hold my hat it was that strong. But I powered through and did my 3rd fastest time, 58.36. Yay. Walked to cool down and did a lot of stretches and rolling on my calves, followed by a cross fibre massage that annoying tendon.
The tendon was a bit sore, especially with the cross wind, but settled really quickly with the stretches and massage.
Happy with the shoes. Now I just want to vegetate lol13 -
Happy birthday @workaholic_nurse !
Yesterday was a lifting day. I'm pleased to finally be back to deadlifting my own weight again - it's been a long slow climb back from docs saying I shouldn't lift with my legs at all. Also a little pleased that my weight is lower than the last time I was lifting my weight. But I expected legs to feel tired today as a result. It honestly wasn't bad, though. I still like my Altra timps, this was my first long run in them. Not a long run for most here, but a PR for running distance for me! Was planning to run 10k on trails, finished and decided to keep going to 6.55 miles just so I could say we did a quarter marathon. Then our usual two mile walk.
It has rained the last few days, which means that now, not only is it sweltering hot and humid, the ground is mucky. The timps have some reviews which say they aren't great in mud, but they seemed more than fine to me. We raced two deer through the woods for a while, which was fun, and then a bunny got onto the trail in front of us and just kept hopping down the trail. I guess this was our day to run versus the animals!
After running I stopped off at the ladies and a wide-eyed little girl asked me, "Is that sweat?" Yes. Yes, little darlin, it is. To be fair to her I looked like I had just jumped in a pool. Love this humidity! The little girl's mother said she would only run six miles if something was chasing her. I said, well, something is chasing me, I'm running from diabetes!11 -
I'm a bit late to the party. I'm in for 70 miles this month. Today was the first day I didn't cry trying to straighten my knee since I fell on my trail race last week. I should be able to start running again tomorrow.
In other news, Skip had her first COLLEGE! XC meet on Friday night. She wasn't happy with her time 24:26, but she looked good and you all know I cried when she crossed the finish line. She was 3rd fastest in her school of 7 and we learned DAMN those college girls can run. On an extra happy note, after the meet she came home with me for the weekend.

Any recommendations for a hand-held water bottle? I've never run with one but as my runs are getting longer I'm thinking it would be good to give it a go. Plus I super don't love all the disposable cups at races. I was looking at this one, but $21 for a water bottle makes me sad. ETA: This also looks interesting, but maybe too small? Second edit: This seems cool, but maybe awkward with high-waisted compression shorts? Maybe a belt instead?0

Oh interesting! I own an Amphipod water bottle! Mine is this one here:
I had never used a hand held bottle until recently, but when I went out for my very first run I had zero issues with my running gait or tempo dealing with the new accessory. I thought it might throw me off at first, but it was a smooth transition to using it.
The one I have is a bit larger, but I like the snug feeling of the grip. Mostly because, I don't have to grip the bottle at all while I run; it can just hang on as I run normally, no sliding. So I think the product line is good in my opinion.
Edited: Needed to add some spaces. Everything was formatted incorrectly.2 -
I have a Nathan hand held. The 16 oz. I think it was $20 at Dick’s which is a lot but there really weren’t any other cheaper options.

I hate carrying anything, but it’s much better than actually carrying a bottle if that makes any sense.1 -

My husband uses the Nathan SpeedDraw Plus Insulated Flask, and I have a belt which is the same size flask across the back. I like the insulated Nathan flask because otherwise the water is warm before I want to drink it. In Southern heat anything less than 16 oz total isn't enough for me. You might consider a belt with two bottles if you like Nuun or something else with stuff in it.1 -
Starting the month with a planned rest day, on a Saturday. Feels weird. Hope it helps when I get up tomorrow morning to go run a half marathon.
@MegaMooseEsq - The key to a handheld bottle is to get one that doesn't bother you carrying the uneven weight. I can run with anything, a Wegman's half liter bottle of water, a 20 oz. Gatorade bottle, whatever . . . but it gets old after about 3 miles. For intentional long running with fluids, I want a hydration belt.
The key to a belt is one that you can adjust to be snug but not cut off blood flow, that the bottles ride well, and that you can get the bottle out and back in without looking. I find that bottles ride best in the back, okay on the hip, 3/4 back is a good riding bottle and fairly easy to retrieve. You may have to test drive a couple to find one that works well for you.
My first hydration belt had a 20 oz. bike-style water bottle that was carried diagonally across the small of my back. It was a dream as far as the bottle riding well, but a PIA to get the bottle out while running. Now I use a variety of belts with the typical dorky-looking runner's bottle in sizes of 8, 10, or 12 oz. The reason they look dorky is because that's what a good design for getting the bottle out, drinking, and putting the bottle back came out to look like.
I don't know what to look for in a hydration vest or backpack. I got as far as learning that backpacks including Camelbaks were prohibited at Boston after 2013, and never bothered to learn to run with one.1 -
I'm baaaack! Finally. I stopped trying to cough up a lung after the first three kilometres, and for most of it just let my legs do their thing. I will admit it was hard, and certainly not helped by the astonishingly severe headwind around the peninsula head.

For belts I have tried:
Amphipod RunLite Xtech 4 Plus Hydration Belt
But I find the belt is acutally too big for me and I can not make it comfortably snug.
I normaly use something like this:
Nathan Peak Waist Pack
But the one I have has a bigger pocket and I can not find it for sale anywhere. That one would probably work good also.
For much longer runs, I use:
Wunjo Hydration Pack
Which can carry my food and even extra clothes in addtion to hydration.2 -

That's a good point about belt vs. handheld. It turns out that the one I linked had free delivery tomorrow, so I got that and hopefully will have it in time to test on my PM run. I needed a new reflective vest too, so I picked one of those up as well. I didn't need a bib/medal display, but I wanted one and that's good enough for me today.4 -

I’m in for 50 miles this month. Started out on a good foot today and added some miles to the bucket today. It seemed cooler at the campsite, but the shade from the trees were decieving. Was still feeling warm around 8:15 so we t for a dip in the pool to cool off. I guess it’s the first time we’ve done a night time pool dip with the kids as they thought it was the greatest thing ever (there’s an outside pool at our campground).

As for belt vs handheld- I will probably always choose belt. I like to keep my hands free to respond to the environment. Form pushing back branches to catching myself if I fall to dealing with dogs. There are just too many times when I might need to repsond without time to deal with a bottle. Heck even just taking out my phone to snap a picture. 🙃
Anyways that is what works for me.5 -

I've done hand held bottles and doesn't work for me. I've even tried half way one hand then switch nope. Not fòr me. I've tried the belt with one bottle it's ok on short runs but long run it's frustrating. I prefer a belt with 4 removable bottles that way you have option to remove the front ones on shorter runs and still feel balanced.
Now, the belt your showing not only look cool but seem practical . the two bottles are side ways so if you buy bigger bottles they won't be jamming into your ribs. Like the belt I have.
That actually makes me think maybe for next year I can upgrade my belt for birthday like the cool one your showing.
Thanks didn't even know those existed.2 -
I did not meet Aug. goal of 200 miles, so I'm going to put that down for Sept. again in hopes of achieving it this time.
Moved from August thread because I forgot the calendar had turned already.
First run for Sept. was 12.34 - shorter than I planned (20 miles). My insulin pump battery was low and I forgot to change it out before leaving home. It died on me while I was out running, so the next time I got around back to my car, I left to find the nearest gas station to get it replaced with minimal interruption.
Also, I was running around a lake on a trail I had not yet visited. I liked the trail and area, but at one point noticed a woman off to the side of the trail poking something with a stick. I stopped to investigate / inquire, and it turns out she had noticed a snake caught up in some netting used for landscaping (I think sod comes in that and it just gets left out). She was afraid to get too close, so I looked closer and was able to determine it is not a venomous snake. So between us, we were able to free it and move it to a safer location nearby. It was damaged a bit as the plastic netting was wrapped so tightly, it cut into the snake. But I don't think the external injuries are life threatening. More concerning is that the snake had been chewing the plastic netting and swallowed some. How much, or whether it will die from that, I don't know. But we did all we could at the time and place... and now I am frustrated about that plastic netting used for landscaping.

@biketheworld Those are my favorite socks by far!
Rest day for me today. On vacation since Wednesday. Wednesday was a concert. Four bands and terrible but wonderful food. Thursday was the same but six bands, four of which I got to check off my bucket list. Friday was family downtime and I had to take my final in my current class. Today was a MLB game as is tomorrow. Of course both filled with wonderful but terrible food. Ahaha! Monday will be a rock festival adding more checks to my bucket list. Also running a 5k that morning.
Today we walked over 7 miles. A total NSV was opting to take the ten flights of stairs to our hotel room instead of waiting for an elevator.
September goal: 100 miles
9/1: rest
