Missed my mark in August and school is back on so I'm dailing way back for September. 25 miles for me. I'm so ready for September's cooler temps.
Happy Birthday @workaholic_nurse ! All the cool kids are born in September6 -
0901-11.3k, total-11.3k, goal-100k
Slow longish run in misty rain to kick off the month. Temps were not high but man it was humid. Did something funny to my Achilles tendon stepping on a bump in the road. We'll see what it feels like tomorrow.
Upcoming races:
20181027 Mogan Ultra 30k
20181118 Shanghai Marathon (maybe)
Edit: happy birthday @workaholic_nurse !8 -
11 SLOW but steady miles this morning. Should have been easy, but didn't feel all that great.
Happy Birthday @workaholic_nurse!8 -

Since I was a royal fail at trying to do 59 miles last month, I am going to be more reasonable this month. I am going to start Jeff Galloway's 5K training schedule. Does anyone else on here follow the run/walk method he professes? I think it will work for me, as I have a mental block about running for long periods without a break. Anyway, following his program, and knowing how fast I walk, I am going to accept a challenge for 30 miles in Sept, but hope to go a few miles further.7

Happy birthday, @workaholic_nurse - enjoy the lake and your adult beverages! Sounds fab!
Date :::: Miles :::: Cumulative
09/01/18 :::: 18.2 :::: 18.2
Off to go a pretty good start for September. I wasn't anywhere near the pace that I ran the 18.12 race last weekend, and it felt quite a bit worse, but got in 18 miles. 5 more long runs to taper!

I managed to run 30 miles last month when my goal was 20, so September’s goal will be set at 25.
We spent all day Thursday driving from PA to TN to visit my sister. 12.5 hours driving + stops for gas, food, stretch legs made for a very long day. Yesterday we planned to run while the baby napped, but then he woke up when we were getting ready. So we packed him up and his stroller and my mom and husband (who forgot to pack workout clothes) pushed him while my sister and I ran. I’m not sure of the name of the trail - it’s in Clarksville, TN and has markers every quarter mile which is nice. The trees shaded us nicely from the sun, not so much from the rain.
I ran about 2.5 and my total distance was 4.5. Silly me, I didn’t stretch afterwards and now my hips are letting me know. Husband and sister went to run today, but I’ll probably start September with a rest day or a walk later.
Happy birthday @workaholic_nurse ! It’s my birthday month too (and yep, I celebrate all month.)12 -

Images from my run this morning in order from beginning to end. Saturday running is just rough, but managed 4.1 mile run plus cool down on this most auspicious of days, the day I was born 41 years ago. The rest of the day will be spent in the company of family and friends in the middle of the lake where unless I recently became a divine being, no running shall ensue. Many adult beverages will be consumed(I'm not driving) and fun to be had by all. Have great runs today everyone and I'll see y'all tomorrow. 😃🏃♀️🏃♂️💪
Have a great Happy Birthday!
And be safe......
Don't forget to keep those life vests on.1 -
All of you that said you did not make your goals last month, read this but put "month" in where it says "day" ...

September Goal: 70 Miles
9/1: 6 miles
Upcoming Races:
Santa Monica Classic | 5K | September 9th, 2018
Los Angeles Marathon | March 24th 2019
__________
Kicking off September right with 6 miles in the bank. It was and wasn't my best 6 miles. Energy was super low today, but I don't believe I was properly hydrated all week and it caused my running to suffer as I had to stop and walk it off a few times. On the other hand, I did somehow finish 3 minutes faster than my previous time. So, eh...it's a toss up. I finished strong and take away that as a positive that I didn't give up.
Also, I used my new handheld water bottle and threw a Nuun tablet in there. Big difference in how I felt after the completion of my run. I didn't feel nearly as run down as I usually do. It felt more like I had ran a normal short distance (short for me anyways LOL) run during the week, which made me extremely happy.
Wishing everyone well on their September adventures! Can't wait to see the month unfold for everyone! I've got a 5K race next Sunday, so I'm super excited to see how I do. I at least know I can finish... HAHA. XD @MegaMooseEsq I think you also have a race next Saturday, so good luck to you as well!
And a very Happy Birthday to @workaholic_nurse! Cheers to many more!

I started incorporating run/walk a couple years ago. I have mixed feelings about it. The downside is that I never get into a "groove?" with the running - I never hit that place where running feels easier than walking. The upside is that I do feel better at the end of 13 miles. I've played around with the run/walk ratio. Right now I'm doing 5 run/2 walk - but my better overall pace is a 7 or 8 run/2 walk.
@ariceroni - wishing you well for the Chicago Marathon! I did that one in 2012 and had a BLAST. Always planned to run it again but just can't bear to think of all that training.
@PastorVincent - that is a GREAT quote. Especially since I missed my August goal by two miles. Shoulda coulda woulda. All kinds of excuses. But not gonna beat myself up about it. Just movin' on.
I was planning on running in a nature preserve this morning - but we've had rain, rain, and more rain so I'm assuming the trails are a muddy mess. So did my 8 miles on the road. Temps weren't too bad - but the humidity was a killer.
June goal - 44/44
July goal - 52/52
August goal - 55/57 miles
Sept goal - 8/60 miles
Sept. 30 - Wineglass Half Marathon; Corning, NY
October 7 - Viking Dash Half Marathon; Toledo, OH9 -
9/1: 2 miles +ST
Goal: 2/115 miles
9/3 Labor Day Road Race 10K
9/30 Wineglass Marathon
Started out the month with two miles today. I have to rearrange some of my running/strength days this week, but I wanted to start the month with at least a short run.
A big focus for the month is trying to really pay attention to what I’m eating as I get close to the marathon. I don’t always log as I should, so I am trying to be a little better with that.9 -
Was planning a long run this weekend, but it is in the 90s so thinking of planning a rest day instead...5

Ahhh, that lovely feeling after getting your Camelbak, fuel, and clothes all ready for your long run in the morning.quilteryoyo wrote: »I am going to start Jeff Galloway's 5K training schedule.

They used that even when they were training for Boston. I have ran with other's who also do Run/Walk.
Ultimately find and modify a program so it works for you and then continue to tweak it as your abilities and confidence improve. Before my first HM I did a double loop of our local Riverside trail 2 x 11 km with a short walk at each turn around = 3 walk breaks. Gave me the confidence to know I could survive a HM.
A 10km with the Walk-Run ladies I mentioned above - they went for 20 I was supposed to do 15 but had a major math mental error - forgot to subtract the 2 km distance of a residential loop while calculating - my math had me at 14 km which then would have required a 500m extension and loop back to finish. So when I got back I was 4 k short and mentally checked out already so just coasted to a 10k and said done. Back to back 10k's with a good hill thrown in today so it okay.

New here too but not to running! Marathon Maniac, Half Fanatic and Double Agent. Been out of the game for almost 2 years due to having my first child @ age 40 (yep, you read that right), grad school, working full time, Navy reserve nurse and wife to an Active Duty Air Force member (who is often gone). Gained about 20 pounds and miss my “ME” time. I would like to set a goal of completing 50 miles this month. Thank you for having this thread and look forward to getting back on the pavement!! 😁20

Happy birthday @workaholic_nurse!
This is my view this morning...
You probably can't tell but it's blowing a gale and wet. And it's my day for a long run. I'm not happy with you all cause now every time I try to make an excuse to skip it I have all your voices in my head saying go anyway. I HATE wind.
I'm not going out for another hr, I just ate breakfast, so maybe I'll be lucky and it will clear up...6 -
9/1 - 9.84 km
9.84/110 km
My coach says since my next race is a trail race I should do my long runs on trails so I decided to do that today. Not even thinking that it's been raining every evening the past 3 nights. Pretty much a slippy slidey mudfest, but a nice run regardless. I decided to run a preview of the race route except I'm pretty sure I ran it the wrong way as I started on tech single track and ended on double wide. Meant I got to coast back to the parking lot so it was all good!

@biketheworld & @juliet3455 Thanks for the information. I'm all for feeling less drained at the end of a long run. I know I will have to play around with the run/walk ratio and see what works best for me. I imagine it will change as I run more and get more fit. I do think it will help with my mental confidence to do longer runs and survive. Being older (59) I am hoping it will help reduce injuries too.

@Avidkeo I love your view this morning. Even with a blowing gale, it's beautiful. I, too, hate getting out and running, or doing anything else, in the rain and wind. I hope it calmed down a little and you were able to get your run in.2

Happy birthday to @eponine1984 and @workaholic_nurse ! And to the rest of the September babies.3

Good thing it is almost fall. I mean I just walked to the mailbox at the end of my driveway and lost 5 pounds in water weight from sweat. Yep, can really feel that fall weather in the air...8

Unplanned rest day to start off the month, but I rearranged my long runs a little bit so that my run tomorrow doesn't require a pick-up (husband going out of town) and it worked out to get me another two miles of the TC marathon route in, so that's nice. Man, a few months of (ETA: mostly) clean living and I get knocked on my *kitten* for a day just because I drank a half dozen hard ciders and a bottle of wine...7

9/1 16.7 miles
Terrible long run this morning. I had this great idea that I would run towards my friend's house and she would run towards mine (we live 17.5 miles away). We'd meet in the middle and run back to her house. Fun right? I set out at 7am. Mistake 1, should have headed out by 6 or 6:30. I put 50oz of water/powerade in my hydration pack and it was heavy and it was hot and humid. Well, it felt decent at first, but after the first hour of running SLOW I was dying. I made it to 10 miles and I had to start walking. I "found" my friend at 10.5 miles and we started running really slow and I had to keep taking walk breaks. My heart rate was so high and I was sweating so much. My socks were soaked by 10 miles! We ended up walking most of the last 6.7 miles with a few run breaks - lol
By the time I got home (hubby picked me up) I was a wreck. Just standing made me dizzy and out of breath. I had to sit in the shower just to finish my shower! I think my electrolytes were messed up and I had a bit of heatstroke. I think I need to look into salt tablets for these hot/humid runs. After a short nap and some salty soup I felt much better.
I was so disappointed because my last 2 long runs went great. Oh well. There's always next week to try and improve I'm going to repeat this weeks training so it's going to mess up my goal for the month.

Trying the ticker. Let's see if this works.
First try didn't work. Second one did. BTW, is there no way to delete a post once you saved it? I tried to delete the above fail, but couldn't figure out how.3
