Allie - My colonoscopy prep was $108 with insurance. Ridiculous!!
I shall not complain about having to pay $20-$30 for colonoscopy prep ever again! Now the actual procedure, well, that I will complain about! I've been fortunate, I had one done several years ago, more to get a baseline and because my dad had had some polyps removed. I had no issues. Hubby, on the other hand, had one done and had several polyps removed and now has to go every year, he is less than impressed, to say the least. I'm guessing that eventually he won't have to go so often, as long as everything comes coming back clean (sorry, pun not intended!).
Kelly, that employment person that your hubby spoke to needs to be reported. That is so very clearly ageism and is against the law. I'm sure there are lots of things your hubby is still more than capable of doing for an employer, he just needs someone with a brain that does more than hold their ears apart helping him find that position.
Busy day yesterday, got a lot of laundry done, felt good to get that out of the way. Today must vacuum and do bathrooms. Don't really feel like it, but it won't get done on it's own, so..... Right now I'm procrastinating, big time! lol Must stop that!
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to any newbies!

Husband wanted to have a day off today with the gym, and a chance for them to change the gosh darn lightbulb in my sauna. I think he used that as an excuse. He has been upping the weights, as I have been as well! I have no problem doing the 20 lb weights on many of the machines. Its interesting also to be assertive enough to tell some of the "machine hoggers" "um can I do my 10 while you fiddle fart on your phone there".... Really, they are using the excuse of the weight room to text and husband and I are doing the whole room. Or they grunt and strain their reps and I use the machine and its set to 30 lbs! Hey young dude, my husband does that setting! Oh the woes of proper etiquette in a gym.
I have forgiven the front desk ladies at the gym, when I found out the rules of the sauna. No I can't be nude, sitting on a towel in the sauna located IN the women's locker room. When I first heard that I was floored! Its in the women's only area, why do I have to cover? Oh that's why, someone might see my private areas! Sheesh! Its by the shower, which have changing stalls included. I bring a cotton swag to wrap myself in, and then I can cover if someone is in the sauna with me. 99% of all the women are completely covered with yoga pants, shirt, shoes, its disgusting! Yes let's marinate in our clothes shall we? Also your clothes get all heated up in a sauna emitting chemicals! I rinse off after I have exercised, then go in. Then I rinse off with a cold shower after the sauna. I take my time to coconut oil myself, knees and elbows. Plus I am a walking and talking advertisement to get over yourself already. Self love, acceptance and perfectly imperfect, that's ME!
Ok my Navy son is having waaay too much fun making coffee for me! I have yet to have to make a pot of coffee since he's arrived! Today he put in a scoop more, so it was extra strong! Presently son is upstairs with his laptop, in our bedroom playing Dungeons and dragons online with husband.👍
Tonight I am making fluffy tapioca pudding for dinner. I know so wrong, but so right!

Had some time today for a change! Lol. We are the only hosts and the campground has been full every day! Plus rangers out, and no help from them. Seems like every time I go to the bathroom or sit to eat, someone is at the door asking questions or complaining about no campsite available! Lol. Still enjoying it though. Supposed get help the end of the month. The date keeps changing so we will see.
Gotta go help ranger collect self pay tubes now.

Hello all: Put weed and feed on the back yard and cleaned out the fire pit. The leaves are falling and it is supposed to rain tomorrow and Friday. DD and I will get the rubber mats back in the goat shed this evening and get them resettled. They are out in the dog run right now but they don't like rain, the little wooses. Taco soup for tonight and then choir. We have started working on our Christmas cantata.
Pip - Enjoy the new machine.
Rebecca - Sounds like you are having a good time with youngest son.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA2 -

Here in Alberta we have 9 now, we don't have one in March or April depending on when Easter is. June we don't have one and August is not recognized by a lot of businesses. One of the refineries here have one every month they have one that they call 12th day it is in June just so they have a stat.
Tracey in another sunny day in Edmonton
I was counting up all the holidays ... so Good Friday and Easter Monday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. I think there's 12 in total. But they are spaced better.
Jan - New Years
Feb - Family
March/April - Easter
May - Victoria
July 1 - Canada Day
Aug - whatever that holiday is
Sep - Labour Day
Oct - Thankgiving
Nov - Remembrance
Dec - Christmas & Boxing Day
Here it's ...
Jan - New Years
Jan - Australian Day
Feb - Royal Hobart Regatta
Mar - Labour Day
March/April - Easter (usually 3 days off instead of the 2 I used to get in Canada)
April - ANZAC Day
June - Queen's Birthday
long wait
Oct - Royal Hobart Show Day
Dec - Christmas & Boxing Day
And I remember that, at one time, there was a bit of a push to ensure there was a holiday in each month in Canada ... seems to me there was talk about having a holiday in early March especially when Easter was late. Or maybe that was just within the organisation I worked for.
But here, no one seems to care that there's nothing for 4 months in winter. Maybe everyone just goes to the mainland or the northern hemisphere for 2 or 3 weeks.

Really beat today. And a little down. I had my well-woman visit yesterday and it turns out that my kidneys look like they aren't doing perfectly well. The markers have been going down over the past couple years. So she ordered more blood work so we can see if they are still heading in the wrong direction. Cholesterol isn't great either, but not scary bad. Yet. It's just frustrating because I really don't have any of the characteristics of someone who should have problems like this (high-ish blood pressure, high-ish cholesterol, scary-ish kidney numbers). At this age. She even said, "Well, as we age, these things happen, but these scores . . . I usually see them in someone 80, not 57." I'm a little overweight (10 pounds right now), but I've never been obese. I have exercised at least some much of my life. I've never been a big drinker, although I'm thinking of taking it up seriously. It just sucks, sucks, sucks.
On the positive side, my glucose levels are still wonderful, so at least I don't have diabetes. Yet.
Felicia, whose kidneys, now that she mentioned it, do kind of ache a little

Hi, all,
The meeting with the interim CEO was a mixed bag. Still processing. More negatives than positives, but then, that's what she's here to do. She's here to fix things, and so her filters are all set that way. That's what I'm telling myself anyway.
Like I said, still processing. Got lots to think about.

Jake is concerned about driving until he has his cataract surgery so I drove him to three appointments today which sure ate up a lot of my day. The good news is that he'll soon have a reprieve from his weekly cancer treatments and he is sufficiently recovered from his cold to be cleared to have his cataract surgery so the day was a win. My walking friend will drive him to his infusion tomorrow so I can have the morning to go to line dance class and not have to interrupt it to drive him. I'll pick him up in the afternoon.
Felicia, I understand your frustration at having health issues in spite of your otherwise good health and healthy habits. I felt that way when diagnosed with high cholesterol even with healthy eating and healthy weight and later with osteoporosis in spite of healthy eating and exercise. Some things are just hereditary. I can blame my parents and grandparents but that didn't make me feel any better.

Did an advanced strength DVD today. I have to go for bloodwork tomorrow which means that I need to fast so I’ll probably just do a Leslie Sansone walking DVD. Fortunately, I can have water.
My sinuses are starting to act up so I took a Sudafed last night. Got an hour of sleep. This is nothing unusual
Newcomer board meeting this morning. Wonder what they’re going to say about the website? On the agenda (and please don’t ask me to explain this) is something about a “backup Treasurer”. Just what this backup person is supposed to do is beyond me. There’s already another person on the checking account. So what’s this backup person supposed to do? Update: still don't really know what the "backup Treasurer" is.
Had the Newcomer board meeting. The guy who is webmaster right now was there. He was talking about this thing where you get a map of where people are located. For one thing, we don’t know what we’re getting. The president and Adra were all excited about it. This is fine, but how does he think the information about where people are living will get on this map? Especially since the old directory is more up-to-date than the new one (the one he did). He said that I don’t have the ability to delete members from the directory. I’m sure he’s talking about the new one because for years I’ve deleted people from the old website. My understanding is that he wants to be done with the Newcomer website come December. Well, we don’t get renewals/unpaid households until April. So what is he planning to do? Is he going to take them off? This is ridiculous. I take the off the old website, the mail list, the spreadsheet and he’s going to take them off the new directory? And what happens if there’s a member who doesn’t renew and is not on the new directory? Ahhh…well…I’ll just continue to do what I have been doing. Hopefully, someone else will step up to do the website. I'd be willing to help.
Tracey – I’m sorry they don’t do BOGO offers by you.
SuebDew – congrats to your gs. Have you gotten out the blueprints for the ark yet? Have a good time in Disney World
Vicki – the only time I’ll ever drink Gatorade is when I’m getting my colonoscopy

Machka - it took me a long moment to realize why you wouldn’t have long weekends in the winter, lol! You could try to get them to celebrate Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day (US holidays)! I actually kind of doubt they’d go for that, though.
Oh, Barbara, AHMOD! I lost my beloved Basset, Sam, to chocolate poisoning. My stepmom didn’t know it was toxic and never called the vet after he ate a large Hershey bar. He suffered awfully, and the vet thought someone had poisoned him. She didn’t think of the chocolate at all.
Tracey (see? I remembered!), I’m moving to Canada forthwith. We have March, April, June and August with no 3-day weekends. And most businesses don’t give you Veterans Day off. Many don’t give Presidents’ Day either, so there’s February and October without as well. I think the Sunshine Coast in BC would do nicely!
SueBDew, maybe you should remove the “dew” part! You’re encouraging it!
Heather, I’m ashamed of how much “old” stuff is in my cupboard. I think that should go ahead of clothes sorting and donating.
Rebecca, I’ve never understood why in a women’s locker room so many act like our bodies contain some sort of secret from one another. I weigh 238 at the moment, and have a number of scars, to boot. If it doesn’t bother me, why should it bother them?
Felicia - Genes? Any family history of cholesterol. My DD (middle one) inherited bad cholesterol problems from my dad and her dad. I’ve never had trouble, but her doctor said her body manufactures too much. It has nothing to do with diet for her.
I had an “escaped cat” scare, but fortunately she came yelling to the inner door of the sleeping porch. I left the outer one open, hoping that’s what she’d do! I Utterly panic when she gets out a couple of times a year. And she’ll drive me nuts for weeks now trying to do it again! Little minx!

Hi Gals,
Rye – take care – we will be here waiting for you!
I find the holiday discussion interesting, here in the US, there are federal holidays, state holidays and those affect the services provided by government agencies, and many companies honor them too, but they are not required to, and I have worked at places that honored them all and a few extras – the best place I worked honored 17 days, and at the other extreme I worked at a company that gave us 3 days Christmas day, 4th of July, and Thanksgiving – and as that company was open 7 days a week, on the years that Christmas and 4th of July ended on a day you were not scheduled to work that was just tough for you.
Now that I work for myself – I can do it any way I want… LOL
The embroidery business has really exploded I took today off from all gardening and just sewed and sewed – about 9pm I got a call from my tomorrow’s garden job and she cancelled, tomorrow’s visit. So I can sew all day tomorrow too. I would really like to do some of my personal Christmas gift ideas too.

Morning ladies. I'm looking to my gratitude/attitude to push me through today. No time for exercise today, but I can walk a little further between meetings and pack a little lighter lunch. I will also have to pack a dinner that will keep me satisfied and away from poor food choices that are all over the place at work, dessert tables and buckets (yes, buckets) of candy. The more I notice this "stuff" the more ever present it seems to be at work, walking away is a habit now, but staying positive in my choices and making sure I've carried a lot of good food to make the walk-by easier is very very important when I'm feeling stressed!

Good morning all! Happy Thursday! I am a little later than normal hopping on this site. I have added walking on the treadmill to my morning routine; as it is getting a little more dicey weather-wise where it concerns getting the kids out. It isn't so much the weather as it is poor clothing choices by the daycare parents. Still trying to make them understand that the kids need more than a thin fleece jacket, now. Sometimes I feel like I spend more time hand holding and explaining to parents than I do working with children. I am sure this is something all of you teachers are familiar.
Allie and Okie- Holy Crow! That is some expensive prep beverage!! I have never had great insurance; but thankfully the prep they prescribed for me only cost me $5 after insurance. That was two years ago, though. I wonder what it would cost now that I have a state insurance plan...
Holidays- Technically I have no holidays off, unless I schedule them off myself. (The benefits of being the boss AND owner/employee) After 23 years of providing care for kids, I have finally allowed myself all national holidays off with pay plus four weeks paid vacation. That gives me about five weeks off each year. I don't take what I consider the "fluff" holidays off (like President's Day/MLK or presidential birthdays/Columbus Day). I would love to see them add an "indigenous peoples" holiday and spend that day studying our Native Americans and finding ways to help them, rather than continue to take advantage of them, as our government seems to STILL do. (sorry, stepping down from that soapbox)
Oh! I got a message yesterday from my older sister's best friend. My sister's 58th birthday is in January and her son is surprising her with a flight back to Michigan (they live in Florida) AND a ticket to see ELO in concert next July! She will be staying with her best friend, who called me and invited me to join them for the concert and an overnight in her new place (she just bought a posh loft condo by the venue)! Woo-hoo! Sister's friend is paying for my ticket as part of her gift to my sister, so I will just need to put aside a bit of money for dinner/fun. This will be the first concert I have been to in about 30 years! I think the last one I went to was in the 80s; Jefferson Starship and Night Ranger. Another fun fact: My sister and this friend were the ones who took me to see Prince when I turned 16. They took me out "outfit" shopping and bought my outfit and then we all headed to the east side of the state for that concert. I don't remember much of it because I had full blown strep and a temp of 104; but what I do remember, it was GREAT!
Well, my daycare parents really came through and have been completely understanding of Tim's uncle's funeral on Friday. They will be picking up their kids at 11am so that I can be there with Tim and his family. Very thankful!
Sending love and hugs to all who need them! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Barbara Was it you that asked NYKAREN about how much yogurt you get from a half gallon of milk? I have some experience in this...and I can tell you there is no answer to this question, LOL! It depends on 3 main factors: The fat content of the dairy product, protein content (part of which ends up in the whey), and the amount of time you drain the whey. In commercial full-fat Greek yogurt, there are 23g of fat in a cup of yogurt. Made from whole milk, which contains 8g of fat per cup, logically you are losing about 2/3 of the volume to drained whey, if you are trying to mimic a commercial product. So 1/2 gallon of whole milk would make:
0.5 x .333... x 16 cups = 2.67 cups of yogurt.
This yield seems low, so maybe I don't strain as much whey as the commercial makers do.
You can end up with yogurt cheese if you drain it for a long time, and that is wonderful as a cream cheese substitute. When I choose this option, I choose a very high-fat product to start with (you could use heavy cream if you were really decadent) and let the whey drain for about 2 days. Delectable!

Hello, all - first, apologies, as this will be longer than is probably warranted. Please skip if you choose, I'm writing more to sort out my own thought processes than to gain a tremendous amount of input. There's just nowhere else I can say these things, so again, my apologies.
First - Rori's advice to always consider this interim CEO's filters was absolutely invaluable. She's here to fix things, so that's how she looks at EVERYthing, including me.
Second - she always sees me at my most highly stressed and tense, as I don't like traveling and I don't want to be away from home, so I'm always a bit on tilt when I get here. I don't eat as healthy as I could/should, and in general, am just not myself. I'm an introvert, I know it, traveling drives me FAR outside my comfort zone, and honestly, I'm OK with who I am. She told me, in these exact words, that I am an angry person, and I have edges. Not arguing with that--the only time she talks to me is when I'm here. There's little other interaction. This "on-tilt" me is who she knows.
So, when she told me she considered my travel a "benefit" that adds $11,000 a year to my pay, I was taken aback. I woke up with the realization this morning that "benefits" in a CEO's world are "costs" to anyone else. In other words, the amount they pay for me includes that amount, so whether it is actually a benefit to me is irrelevant to her. It's part of the costs the organization is absorbing to keep me employed, so that's what she's considering.
But her overall assessment was that it is still up for question as to whether my grant work over the last year was enough to offset that cost.
Which leaves me trying to cope with the fact that, to her, the grant work I've done over the last year was for something she does not believe should have been done (long story, not worth going into--chalk it up to a huge difference in philosophies from my previous CEO). This means that all the work to bring in a half million more in grants than the year previous has been dismissed as not worth doing, and of no value to the organization. That is her truth.
That one hurts. A lot.
She also advised me to start applying for other positions. She hastily added, "It's not like we're getting rid of you," but that was kind of closing the barn door after the horse had already gotten loose.
There were a few sideways compliments mixed in, that she believes I'm more "self-aware" than most, and a "tactician." I came away feeling that I had been judged and found wanting, and my work was without value.
Not a good place to be, inside my head this morning. Trying to wrap my head around all this in a hotel room when all I want is to be home is not helping.
Sorry, this ended up being even more of a bummer than I thought it would.
Thanks for being here,
Love y'all,
Lisa10 -

Lisa - where did this interim CEO come from - has she been in the organization for a while? She doesn't pass my sniff test for being a good leader and evaluating everything in terms of the "big picture". She sounds like a "kid" someone tossed in there. Maybe I'm wrong.
I don't blame you for being shocked at the $11,000 being termed a "benefit" - is it listed on your W-2 as income? I am the type that if an authority figure tells me something I know is incorrect, I assume a lot of what they say is wrong. I am so glad you have Rori for an advisor!
Sending hugs and good thoughts that things will settle out once you are home and catch up on sleep. In your new home! One of your unique skills that I really admire is that you are able to land on your feet no matter what. Lisa's Lemonade

Rita: When we stayed at South Beach State Park there were three or four camp hosts that rotated duty and the park was nearly full. They all seemed to be parked near the entrance and were easy to find. I hope your help turns up soon. I didn’t notice any camp hosts at the other two state parks where we stayed. The weather was dry, & we were there in the middle of the week. Those parks had a little space available but were well occupied, too. Our Bounder is back at the RV repair place because the water heater isn’t working properly, The thing leaks like crazy if we’re hooked up to water. So far, we’ve never had a shower in our RV. They’ve all been in park facilities. :grumble: :ohwell:
Sue in WA: Taco soup sounds wonderful. I’m putting it on my “to do” list.
Machka: What is ANZAC Day?
(((Felicia))): I hope you’re able to get your kidneys back in top shape. I had bladder infections years ago, but no problems with that in a very long time. I was advised to drink cranberry juice back then. It sounds like your doctor is getting right on top of things. That is good. We’ve found that female doctors are usually better and more aware than male doctors. DH was the first one to mention that. Our current doctor is a gem, but the last doctor I had was also a female and I didn’t think she provided adequate care. She always wanted to refer me to someone else, even for very minor things. I didn’t appreciate that. :grumble:
SueBDew: Love the discount policy!
(((Lisa))): I agree with Lanette about this interim “CEO.” She seems to be way off base in my opinion.
Heather: You’re doing a great job getting ready for your move. WTG!!!
Yoga today! Yay!!! We have a rainy day & I think we’ll be cozy at home for most of the day. We will see what happens as the day goes along.
