Drkatiebug ... I would love your help!! But given your quite a ways away, I'm going to have to brave it alone ...

Barbara ... I decided to research some of my meds ... I've been continuing with the RXs through the stomach flu, but nothing OTC. It seems my Aleve (NSAID) 2x a day might be the culprit. I suffer with vascular problems to begin with and according to my research Aleve can worsen edema problems. So I take Aleve for arthritic symptoms ... the answer there is going to have to be less weight and more gentle exercise. The difference in my ankles is significant.

Felicia .. my older son has congenital issues the affect his kidneys and until this last year never really bothered him. What kind of diet is kidney healthy?

It's been a rough week, but it's over. The weathermen are promising a miserable weekend, so this is perfect time to get some things done inside.

Beth. It is mostly a healthy heart diet. Low fat, lots of veggies, with the additional restriction of phosphorus, potassium, and protein. Things, I guess, the kidneys have to work harder to process. My protein calculation came to about 6 ounces a day.

    Not impossible to handle.

Oh, and no NAISADs. I could probably do one now and then, but since they can be hard on the kidneys, I will pass.

:) I got an email last week from one of my line dance friends telling me that there would be a Halloween party at the line dance class that I teach (the one I haven't been able to teach since my back injury in July)) and she hoped that I would attend. So yesterday morning I donned my pumpkin costume and showed up in the middle of the class and danced one dance before the break and one after and during the break got to talk to everyone. I know they miss me and I miss them and I had to stay firm in my resolve to continue the slow and steady recovery. It was fun to see everyone but I came home after and lay down for 90 minutes.

:)Lisa, I admire your ability for self reflection and analysis and I know you'll make the right decision about what to say to the interim CEO and whether you need to look for other work.

:)Allie, I'm glad you're packing up your dog and personal items and going home. Your only connection to Tom should be co-parenting the dogs. It's time to get busy at the gym in your new home.

:)Heather, great plans for the rest of the move. It will be challenging and you and your hubby have what it takes to meet the challenge. Sorry to hear about your childhood friend.

:) More bulbs planted today....it should take about 12 more days to finish.

Barbie-can’t wait to see your glorious flowers in the Spring. Be careful with your back while planting bulbs.
KJ- thanks for all the info on the butterflies. I went out and stood by them and really looked after reading your descriptions. You are so smart! They had covered my fig tree this morning. There are still figs on the tree so they were fueling up for their trip.

We had the most beautiful day. We tried to burn our burn pile of tree limbs etc but it didn’t burn very well due to all the rain. We had to stay out by the pile until it sputtered out so I made us a picnic and we sat down by the river. Saw two white pelicans floating down stream. The river is still high with major currents. Pretty soon they would fly back upstream and float down again.

Heather, I'm so sorry about your friend. Just goes to show how precious our health (both physical and mental) really is.
Rebecca, lovely photo of your boys and daughter in law. So happy that you were able to get together with them, and get your boys together, very important for them to know each other too! (as adults, not just as "the pesky younger/older brother!)
Elizabeth, that is one seriously cute pup! I'm not a dog person, and I think he's just adorable! lol
Sue, the garden and butterflies are beautiful!
NYKaren, very good advice to eat regularly in order to be able to avoid the temptations! I try that too, don't want to be so hungry that I will grab stuff indiscriminately. That usually ends poorly, and with me unsatisfied!
What do I do to avoid boredom?
Go to the gym, craft work, meet up with a few friends on a weekly basis and we craft together, work 3 days a week, read voraciously, and unfortunately, I enjoy cooking.... :)
The halloween candy at work is starting to lose it's lustre. Not entirely, but I have definitely cut back! Was watching the World Series baseball last night, expecting it to end by about 7:30-8, yeah, no, I gave up at midnight and it was still going! I did take a break after the 13th inning and went and had my shower, the game was still on so went to watch some more, sitting there falling asleep in my chair, I decided it was time to go to bed, if I was going to sleep, I might as well be comfortable in bed! Looking forward to the game tonight, sure hope it's not another marathon game. I'm sure the players feel the same way!
Hope everyone has a great day!
Hugs to those who need them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

SueBDew: Which river goes by your home? The Columbia River goes by mine. I've been wondering whether any of the Monarchs you are seeing now spent some time here this summer. Their migration and life spans are so far beyond what I'd ever imagined. :flowerforyou: We have Osprey that are also migratory. They spend their summers here, and head south of the border for the winters. One of them has been here more than 10 summers in a row. He likes to sit on the ship's weather vane we have on the community gazebo. It is so easy to underestimate God's wonderful creatures.

Rebecca - loving all the photos! And you are right, babies and dogs do well together. Will Japan bound DS have to fly to CA for his departure?

    Heather
    - so sorry to hear about Shirley! I keep in touch a little with my childhood classmates through Facebook, several passed away recently from complications due to diabetes (Lu spent her final years in a nursing home), two of brain tumors. What's interesting is that when I think of them, I still see them as the children in my classroom.... in my mind, they have never aged since I moved away when I was in my early 20's and haven't seen them in what... 50 years. Whoa! Time flew! Wishing you lots of strength and patience the next few days. You have everything planned very well so I'm sure it will work out with few hitches. <3

SueBDew - thank you for sharing those butterflies! So glad to see them!! I haven't seen any monarchs this far north (I think I'm maybe 50 - 80 miles NE of Katla) but we have beautiful black and yellow swallowtails and numerous moths. Monarch migration is so fascinating, like salmon spawning. And geese flying south, we've heard lots lately.

Barbie - I remember you in your Hallowe'en costume, lol. Glad you could make it out and be with your line dance gang for a bit. Your bulbs will look spectacular when they bloom next spring!

Vickie - good for you getting a Prius, let us know how you like it as time goes by. I think we'll be driving our old Subaru and Toyota for a long time but Prius sounds so interesting. I see a few charging stations here and there. Better than the gas pump!

    Felicia
    - sounds like your kidney disease is manageable. How did they find it - blood test? I have a friend who has genetic polycystic kidney disease. And she is finally on dialysis, not a candidate for a transplant. She is taking it all in stride.

Rye - I know you have left us for a while. Good thoughts are heading your way constantly, young lady.

Lisa - speaking of young lady, who are those 2 gals in the photo you posted. Really! It's OK for you to be here with us even though you are in your 30's. B) That CEO has a knack for getting everyone ticked off, doesn't she? WOW!! Hope they yank her in before there's no one left in your region. I'm starting to think she's threatened by anyone who does a good job and she certainly doesn't think of the impact of her decisions. I know it will work out great for you, however it works out. Hope someone pops up really quick to take over your rental.

    Have a good evening ladies!

Did part of the Slim in 6 DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do the Yoga Burn DVD.

M – thank you for the link. I went thru the itchy skin period. But this is different. It’s like welts. But there’s one welt on my leg, one on my hip, two on the inside of one arm. A few around my waist. But why the ones (and only one) in different locations? It’s not crawly. When I went thru the itchy skin period, there were times when I’d be so itchy and scratch myself while I was sleeping to the point that I bled. But I haven’t scratched myself until I bled this time. Read that antihistamines work so I might buy some Benadryl. It’s just strange. What a shame that you can’t wear certain clothes!

Rori – I still can’t believe I found those ankle weights. I think some people just passed them by not knowing what they were. Good for me. You know how they have those weighted “bars” that you put in them to make them heavier? Well, a few are missing. But I don’t think I’ll ever get to the point where I would need them all. WOO HOO on that bathing suit fitting!!!!!! That’s awesome!

Newcomer membership: I’m still waffling back and forth between whether I should continue to do this or not. On one hand, I can’t work with someone who doesn’t want to work with me. But on the other hand, I have the knowledge from the past and they’re in too much turmoil right now. So maybe I should just continue to do what I can and not be bothered with anything else. Like no one bothered to show me how to put someone on the new directory or how to take someone off (I was told that I don’t have the ability to do this anyway). Let them figure out that people are on the old directory who are not on the new one and why. Let them realize that non-renewing members are still on the new directory. I’ve done my job, they’re off the old directory and the mail list. But I DO NOT want to continue with hospitality. No way, no how. I’ve done it long enough, it’s time for someone else to do it. Besides, that means that the hospitality person has to be at all the general meetings. I didn’t have a problem when Vince was treasurer and had to be there anyway, but now that he’s not going to be, why should I make a commitment that I’ll be there every month?

Fried up the crab cakes for this week then made shrimp. I’m getting to like my electric fry pan more and more (do they even sell them anymore?)

Elizabeth – good luck with the personal trainer!

Heather – so very sorry about your friend

Barbie – I’m so glad you made it to the party. I know everyone enjoyed seeing you.

Helped Vince put out some Halloween decorations. I think we’re about done now, just a little tweaking that he has to do. We couldn’t get much up this year because it was so rainy and it got so cold so fast.

Rebecca – how do you make your fudge? No matter what I do, it never comes out like the fudge you buy in the store.

Just skimming, as I'm really sleepy and ready for bed.

Rori thanks for the calculations, will give yoghurt making a try. Fage greek yoghurt says no hormones, but doesn't claim organic so I'm looking forward to trying to make my own from organic milk.
Lisa so glad you got to enjoy the path!

    SueBDew beautiful pics, safe travels.
Barbie hooray for the pumpkin costume and Brava! For your determination to heal slowly and completely.

Too sleepy (and to embarrassed) to update the stats. Maybe tomorrow.

Clocks went back last night, so guess what? I was awake at 4.30. Grrrrrrrrrr! Did some breathing to get my heart rate calmed down and then decided to talk to you. Last proper day at this house as tomorrow is all systems go. Using up things from the freezer so tonight's meal will be an English Breakfast, including black pudding (blood pudding). :D<3 Lunch is Avgolemono with the last of the chicken stock.

Sue - loved your butterflies. Have you read Flight Behaviour by Barbara Kingsolver? It's one of my favourite novels. A fictional account of the monarch migration. There will be rare butterflies on the South Downs near our new home. One of the blues has a very complicated life cycle which involves ant burrows.

One interesting nature fact about Brighton and Hove - some years ago, in the 70s and 80s I think, all the elm trees in Britain were killed by Dutch Elm Disease. Caused by a beetle. Brighton and Hove is the only part of the country it didn't get to, probably because of the South Downs (hills) that protected it. Consequently there are avenues of elm trees and, in the Pavilion garden, an old National Heritage elm tree.
I remember the big old trees at the back of my parents in laws' house having to be felled. Great sadness. So it is rather wonderful to see the elms down there.

Glad you are feeling more sanguine, Lisa. Once the pressure is off the rental, things will look rosy!

I think I will wake DH up a bit early today. I will read for half an hour first.

Just written 400 words of my memoir! Hooray! Almost worth waking up early for.
I was writing about my grandmother's bedroom, her hats, wardrobes and dressing table. :D:D:D<3<3<3

Just the other day I was writing about how I used to go across to the phone box out on the main road to ring Shirley. We didn't have a phone in the house. Press button A. Press button B for the change.
Once I had to walk two miles through three feet deep snow with my dad to get to the station to pick her up from the train. The train from London was late, but she made it. <3<3<3<3<3

HEATHER you always bring back memories for me, I used to go to phone box to ring my cousin. We didn't have a phone but they did. I loved going to their house because they were 'posh' with an indoor bathroom and a car and of course the phone. For years I could remember the number, in those days it was an exchange name and not a code. Nice memories. Good luck on Monday I'm sure the move will go well thanks to your planning. You are going to be so happy in your new home :D

Heather, I'm SO excited for you... You'll find all your routines waiting for you there, once everything's in place. I had just started finding mine again when this biz trip started, but I'm looking forward to getting those settled, and finding where everything goes.

Barbie, so pleased to see you dancing again--your self-discipline always inspires me.

, glad your Audax events went quite well.

And, good news on the financial front, the first potential renter is walking through on Monday morning at 9:30 a.m.! It really is at a good price and in a good neighborhood, and mine and my husband's efforts made sure that it is completely ready to be moved into as soon as someone says they want it. They wouldn't even be walking them through if they hadn't already passed the credit check. Getting out from under the lease would be a MASSIVE relief from an outlay that basically takes a bit more than half my income each month to support.

In writing mode myself this morning, and slept well (with the help of Nyquil about midnight). Been on a salty food binge of sorts, and everything's showing it this morning, swelling ankles, fingers, toes, and I'm sure my weight. Time to get that back under control in my last three days here.

    Love y'all,
    Lisa in Texas 'til Tuesday
