Wow. Didn't see that coming.
What kind of area do you live in that gives you access to cuddling piggies?
Lol.
These piggies.

No posting this without pics ma'am😋!
3.4 miles this morning and I am on the board for the month finally. Had to run at home this morning as voting before work. Also managed to find my headlamp and so running in the dark is now an option. Have a great day all.5 -
girlinahat wrote: »re: Guy Fawkes. It always seems odd to me, that we celebrate a man trying to blow up Parliament by using explosives. But then really what we are celebrating is the fact that he DIDN'T blow up Parliament, and I guess when the bonfire is lit and the 'guy' is placed on it, that symbolises him being hoisted by his own petard as it were.
Just as an aside, England does NOT have a tradition of burning at the stake. Even witches were generally hanged.
but I digress,
I went out to run this morning. Alarm went off, body was happy to get up and run. Brain kicked in a minute after the alarm and said
'go back to bed'
Body thankfully ignored this and got dressed. Brain continued mumbling, and even as I left the house it said
'go back inside and have a cup of tea'
started my run, got part way down the road and Brain threw a curve ball at me -
'I want to sit and cuddle the piggies'
well that won. Took a detour, which did give me a small hill, but probably cut my actual distance in half. Just for some piggie cuddles.
Body now needs to figure out a way of defeating Brain.
How about you edit your route so that you sweep past them on the way BACK instead? Do your miles get the reward!4 -
Haha cross post @girlinahat .1

06/11 3.15 miles
Missed 3 full weeks but not going to beat myself about it as this is my busiest time of year with work and its always the same.
Monthly question: What in the world have you done for your tomorrow self this year?
Not alot or what I had hoped anyway, I'd hoped to have lost weight, instead I've gained. I'd hoped I'd have got faster but haven't. I have kept running though, as I want to still be able to in 20 years time for my own fitness and wellbeing. It was an important year for 2 of my kids sitting important exams and one starting college which took it's toll too. Thankfully that went well. I am trying to improve my french for a road trip my husband and I are planning for next August. We plan to drive from Marseille or Montpellier to Geneva over 5/6 days.

@girlinahat so cute! I was guineapig monitor at junior school, looking after Bubble and Squeak. I loved taking them home for the school holidays. My mum and dad were always really sad when I took them back in September.6

LOL - I assume it means Woo Hoo!
No, it does not. It is a very negative remark, according to the mods. The mods also said they plan to USE it to make decsions, but they did not say what decisions. It is a horrible idea and needs to be struck from the board. But, eh, not my house, not my rules.
Oh no! Shows what I know! Thanks for setting me straight. I feel like an idiot that I've clicked it sometimes when I thought I was cheering people on!2 -

LOTS AND LOTS of people assume that. It is the most natural thing to think for most people when they see it. All the other options are positive, so "woo" looks like "woohoo." It is why the button is beyond stupid. But, as I keep telling myself, not my house, not my rules.
It is best to just completely ignore it.2 -
Today I decided to listen to a comedy playlist on Spotify while running. Not a good idea. At times I was laughing out loud and I learned it is hard to run and laugh that hard. So I kept stopping to walk. Slowest four miles I've run in a while. But it was fun anyway!
One more day of "deloading" on the Transform app and then I will be heavy lifting again. Yikes!
11/1 - 4 miles
11/2 - rest day
11/3 - 44 miles cycling + transform app - deload week, arms
11/4 - 3 miles + transform app - deload - legs
11/5 - 4 miles + transform app - deload - back
11/6 - 4 miles + tbd

If I see a 'woo' in this particular thread I assume it's a positive 'woohoo!' In any other thread I assume it's a negative 'you're talking out of your backside'.4 -
Hello again fellow runners! I ran 5.3 miles this morning, which brings my total for November so far to 28 miles- only 102 to go!14

Pretty much changed her entirely since the beginning of 2017: I quit smoking, lost 28 kilos and started running. Not only has my body changed, my mindset has completely changed too. I went from a doormat people walked all over who spent most of her time in tears to some sort of confident person who takes no chit from anyone and goes for what she wants. Sadly for anyone who doesn't like me this means a) I'm probably going to be around for a lot longer than I would have been if I'd carried on living as I was, and b) I'm far more likely to argue with them :-)8

i was a people pleaser. now. not so much. years in al anon and 11 years of practicum helped me learn.

@sarahthes The only saving grace about that forecast is it looks like the winds will be fairly light. Today might be a good rest day...0

Nah, I'm good for the temperatures. It gets worse here.3 -
New to the group, but I have been running some for about a year and lurking on the running threads for quite a while. I am currently using a 5K to 10K trainer to get ready for my first 10K in February and my first half-marathon later in the year! I never considered myself a "runner" and always thought once I got to the point where I could run a 5K I would just hang out at that distance. But, it truly is addicting seeing my distance and time improve!
My goal for the month is 50 miles estimated by the workouts on the trainer I'm using.

@sarahthes I glanced at that and thought - wow, ideal running weather, what's she complaining about?
then I read your comment.

November goal: 75 miles
11/1: 4.1 miles
11/4: 8 miles
11/6: 4.2 miles
16.3/75 miles completed
Today's run was 4.2 miles and it was beautiful. It was a little chilly (for me) so I was slow getting out the door. One good thing about running in the summer heat is I never have to think about what to wear. Shorts and tank tops are always right. But when it is cool it is harder for me to decide. But I finally set out about 6:15 and it was just gorgeous outside. It was still darkish, but the edges of the horizon were starting to lighten up and it got lighter as I ran. When I was heading home, the sun still wasn't quite up but the sky was light and the horizon was a beautiful pinkish orange color. I really wanted to just keep running all morning, but I had to go home and get ready for work.
My headphones also quit on me on this run. So I decided that I would just listen to music on my phone since I run by myself and I don't usually see anyone else that it would bother, but that didn't really work because I couldn't hear the music. When I was running along the highway the traffic was too noisy. When I turned and hit the backroads (which I was so happy to do since it wasn't dark anymore) I could hear it a little, but it was still hard to hear since the phone was in my flipbelt and the speakers were kind of blocked. It was nice though and running without music was more pleasant than I expected it to be.

Do any of you do the Galloway run-walk method on long runs/races? I did when running with the LA Leggers and for some time after that, although I haven't been doing so for the past few months. I am considering whether to do so again for my long runs as I progress past 9 miles. I'm considering whether the run-walk will help me feel better going farther. I know I should find this an easier decision as I used to do this, but I can't decide for some reason. I'm wondering if it would help me increase my speed on long runs. I think I was around 12-13 min miles yesterday, and I don't want to race yet when I'm doing that pace.
I started the walk/run method a couple years ago. I love it and hate it. I love that I generally do feel pretty good at the end of a half. I hate that I never get into that rhythm of running where it is just easier to keep running than start walking. My current routine is 5 minute run, 2 minute walk. I just read something about Galloway that if I remember correct - he does 1 minute walk, 1 minute run. That would drive me crazy. I think it's a good thing to try for long distances.5 -
bubblegum2fitness wrote: »So I want to start racing next year (with a max distance of 10km in mind) how do I find races in my area? The website I'm currently on is only giving me stuff that's hours and hours away, but I can't commit to driving that far with my money situation. I've found two races (one where I live one 90 minutes) but they're months apart and I want to do more than 2 races. I'm in Cranbrook, BC, and every other race seems to be in Vancouver. Any tips on finding local races?
Something I realized, if you see a race on Facebook and "like" it - suddenly all kinds of races start popping up in your newsfeed.8 -
@eleanorhawkins What a wonderful transformation, inside and out!
@Marissaxzxzxz Thanks for sharing that. I've had a similar year and have been avoiding the question. That's fabulous you are working on your French. Your trip sounds amazing. I would love to visit France.
@PastorVincent That is hilarious. What a great idea! It would work here because guns are rare, though you may get arrested for the effort.
@sarahthes I can't even remember what that temp feels like anymore. I remember -25 or -30, because I think those are harder to forget. Still, you'd never know I grew up in Alberta. It was 9C with no rain here this morning; such a treat. I hope it lasts all week. Good luck out there!
Today: 3.24 miles: 10 min run w/u, two intervals of 15 mins run/5 mins walk followed by upper strength training
MTD 11.29 / 45 miles
I couldn't do the prescribed interval pace today, but I still felt pretty good about finishing the workout. I have perfectionist tendencies; old me may have given up when I couldn't do it. For this month's question, perhaps that's my best answer. What have I done for tomorrow me: I don't give up when I fail; I pick myself up and persist. I also have gained weight this year, and I feel frustrated and disappointed. I'm still here every day. I'm still trying.12
