Allie: I like to stay local, too. I think you’d be brilliant, and the place where your DFIL lives has made a foolish mistake. Perhaps you will find a job that you love at a different senior care center. It is great to hear that you’re working on your health. WTG!
Heather & Lisa: I also read Little Women as a child, as well as Besus and Ramona, & Henry Huggins, both written be Beverly Cleary in 1955. She was an Oregon writer. I read them a year or two later, and then read them again to my own children when they were small. Good memories. My children and I both loved the Dr. Seuss books, & the Narnia series, too. Dr. Seus books taught my kids to read.
Sue: I am willing to bet you could sell that firewood for a nice amount of money. This would be the season when people want wood to heat their homes. I doubt the chemo will be much fun for your DH, but it seems likely to extend his life. Wishing you both best luck.
(((Rebecca)))
Dana in AR: I never thought of fallen leaves as cornflakes, but I can almost here your DH walking in that photo. Nice!
KJ: I think you are right about the Little Women book. It very well could be a first edition. I read Little Women as a child, probably checked out from the library. My mom would have wanted to protect that copy from little girl hands. :flowerforyou:
Lisa: I read some of Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse books in recent years, but eventually found them a bit too dark for my taste. :ohwell:
Margaret: Sending good thoughts for the purchase of a home for your son. :flowerforyou:
Jan110144: You and Annie are a glorious sight! Is she a Lipizzaner? Welcome to a great group. Stop by often.
I’m planning to go to yoga today, and have nothing in mind after that, other than a telephone chat with our financial advisor. DH has some questions.

Happy to have had my new job for a month now. I joined my fitness pal and I am working on my health. Thankful for my family, friends and hope for my future. Because my job has no insurance, I'm continuing to seek a job with insurance. But still happy that I have the job that I have.4

Good Morning Ladies,
#9 What place are you most grateful for – my home where my family and friends are always welcome, the door is always open is my policy. Grateful for the wonderful man I am married to and both of our boys who are the joy of my life.
Well got my exercise in yesterday had to do the treadmill to cold out to exercise outside but got 4 miles in and logged all food intake. Stayed within my range and cut back on my salt intake.
Woke up to some snow on the cars and grass. Melted on the streets so traffic wasn’t bad for my morning commute to work.
It’s Friday looking forward to family dinner night of pizza (Friday night winter ritual), then heading out for our family weekend getaway for my husband’s 60th birthday that is coming up. So looking forward to mini family vacation.
Katla – Love to do yoga so relaxing – Awesome treasure from your Antie
Grandmallie - Narnia another great series of books I enjoyed reading with our boys. Sorry to hear you’re by yourself now. Make the changes you can do it, make a monthly goal so then you don’t feel so overwhelmed.
Carol in GA – Secret Garden – awesome book and a good movie if you can find it. I too love mysteries.
Lanett, Paige, Katla, Sue in WA, Lisa in Arkansas - thanks for the list of new authors put a note on my phone with the list from all of you.
Paige – I to did a month to month goal (had an event each month that I made by goal for) and do not get discouraged if you don’t meet it (with the Holidays coming upon us) but do be accountable to us. Being accountable to someone helps. Sending encouragement to you for the month of November.
Cari in North Texas – I to had the issue with keeping a running response so read Michele in NC response because now I am following her advice. I to have awesome in-laws and would not hesitate to have them move in with us if needed. Can you post the orange fluff salad recipe to share???
Michele in NC – thanks for the Word document idea !!!! Doing it with this post.
Margaret - fingers X’d that they accept your bid.
Jan – welcome and age is just a number!!! Your only as old as you feel!!!! Be positive you can accomplish anything at any age. We are quite active in postings so hopefully it will continue. Annie is absolutely beautiful!!!! Thanks for sharing a picture.
Signing off for now
Have a wonderful weekend.
Jo from Windy City Chgo.

I've been reading California fire news and it is devastating. I have cousins that live there, but the one I feel closest to is now traveling with her daughter. If I was in charge there, I'd be working on new building codes that give homes and businesses better protection from fire. I think the Pueblo Indians in the Southwest had the environment well in mind when they built their adobe communities. My heart goes out to the individuals & families who are in danger now. I sure hope Kim is safe.

Jan - Welcome! What a wonderful horse. You must be very strong and skilled. It is always hard to lose the last pounds. I lost 57 in total in 18 months, but the last 4 took me four months! Now it takes me ages to lose anything, but I am happily below goal and only one and a half a pounds to go to make it 60 lbs lost.
So sorry to read about the California fires. Devastating.
Now to make spaghetti bolognese for the kids' dinner. I did some Bea duty with games on my tablet. The parents are Skyping at 6.30.
I've arranged for the window man to come tomorrow and the electrician to come on Tuesday.
Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxx2 -
Allie - Sorry to hear you didn't get the job, maybe this person won't work out and they'll realize their error.
Carol - I love Nora Roberts. When I downsized a couple years ago I kept her books and a couple other authors but donated the rest of my books
Lisa- I have all of my Mother's diaries, both Grandmother's and my Father's. I have not been able to read them all yet but it's one of my plans for the winter. My Mom is still alive, she has Alzheimer's though so she is not the same.
Cari - I write notes on a piece of paper to try to keep up with who I want to say something to. Did I read that correctly, you have lost 50 pounds from August to November? MFP has a recipe builder that works quite well for determining calories.
Lanette - I want to write my memories for my girls to have when I am gone. My Grandmother did it and it is very treasured by me. I want to pass that on.
I made the craft last night for the craft night I've been asked to do, I think I need to come up with something else though as it was quite messy and we will be in a boardroom. I have another idea, I just need to find the items I need for it.
I'm looking forward to this long weekend. I have a lot to get caught up on at home!
9- Place I am most grateful for my home. We lost a house 2 years ago to foreclosure so I don't take for granted that I have a roof over my head and my husband to share it with.

Woot! Got an interview Tuesday afternoon with the Girl Scouts Diamonds of Arkansas, with a teensy little bit of Oklahoma and Texas thrown in, for basically the same position I have now, but more heavily leaning toward grant writing, rather than fundraising per se. And it would be from home, as I am now. And no more plane flights, I can drive anywhere in the council. Talked to my prospective boss for nearly an hour, and she'll be in Fort Smith to meet with me Tuesday... already made sure she had full disclosure of the upcoming knee replacement, and it didn't seem to faze her a bit.
Rori will be so pleased to know that I might stay with Girl Scouts. And I'm over the moon at the thought of continuing to use what I've learned in the last year and a half to benefit the girls of this amazing state! If I can get to the interview stage, I usually get the job offer. Possibly because I am intrinsically lovable and confidence-inspiring. Your guess is as good as mine.
Love y'all,
Keep a good thought for me...

Yeah Lisa! Good luck! Your lovable confidence inspiring self has this one handled!
Barbie - So glad you are almost back to your pre-injury self! I hope Jake is doing well after finishing his treatments.
Heather - I am so happy for you that you can easily spend more time with the grands now!
Okie in the TX Hill Country where it has finally dropped out of the mid 80's!

The place I am most grateful for is Heaven. I look forward very much to be in the presence of God one day.
I did my exercise with the kettle bell today. Starting out slow. I am saving all my calories for going to the Golden corral today for the early bird special rate for seniors. There is a large group of us going. I already filled out my diary of the food that I will be eating there today. Just because it is a buffet does not mean I have to have 20 plates full of food I actually love the options there because you can eat very healthy. Also my only meal for the day so I have a lot of calories to work with.

I have Type 2 Diabetes and have finally been trying to take control of my blood sugars since April by eating lower carbs than what I was previously eating. My A1C in April(it was 9.2 - the highest it had ever been) scared me into doing this. My A1C last month was 5.4! and I have lost 36 pounds since April 10th. Anyways, this past week I have been eating low-fiber(which is exactly the opposite of how I've been eating since April!) in preparation for my colonoscopy on Monday. I hope this doesn't set me back.... Can't wait to go back to eating salads, etc7

Supposed to be cold and rainy here today. I have a pulmonologist appointment this afternoon. Should go okay. I have not had any breathing problems except this summer with the smoke.
My favorite place right now is my gazebo. It sits in front of the house and I can see out through the trees to the gate and the road. It is just a peaceful place.
I love the book discussion. I need to make a list and read some of these books. Many I have already read so I feel right at home with all of you.
Lisa - Hope the surgery gets scheduled soon. It will be nice to have it done. Also good luck with the new job, sounds perfect for you.
Jan110144 - You and Annie look good together! My DD's first lesson horse was named Annie and she was white but much smaller, a 1/2 Arabian.
Everyone take care, Sue in WA3 -
Our offer was accepted now we just have a few minor points to work out and we are good to go.13

I'm behind on the 30 days of gratitude project, so I'll catch up here:
#1: I am grateful for the smell of grinding roasted coffee beans.
#2: I am grateful for my blood pressure cuff (technology)
#3: I am grateful for the color blue (the sky, my husband's eyes)
#4: I am grateful for curry. (A new "discovery" for me, and I could eat it every meal. Lol)
#5: I am grateful for the sounds of my children (who are mostly adult now) laughing and getting along.
#6: I am grateful for the ocean.
#7: I am grateful for the memory of having "tea" with my great-grandmother when I was 3.
#8: I am grateful for The Great Gatsby. The most perfect novel written in the U.S. to date.
and #9: I am grateful for Crater Lake -- which I haven't yet been to since I moved back to Oregon but which I have visited a few times before I left Oregon in my early 20s.
Happy for the weekend. I have a women's breakfast to attend tomorrow morning, and that always makes me happy.

All kids in bed.
Glad there isn't any alcohol in the house! I think we would be tempted to hit it. Poor DH still has his chesty cold and has been working hard all day , keeping Bea entertained. The parents did FaceTime this evening, chaos as usual! I was going to Skype, but just before they were due to call I realised that Skype had wiped out my account, so I struggled to reset it, getting more and more desperate. I still haven't figured it out and now my accounts are all mixed up. Boo! Luckily their iPad had just enough charge in it for them to FaceTime. Max showed us how to work it.
Don't know how you manage it KJ.
Three kids is a lot to organise with the different ages and they all want DH's attention at once.
I managed to make some kind of dinner for the two of us with packaged lentil curry and boiled eggs. All I could find. I added a tomato and cucumber salad. Hot pickle. Not bad. We still have stinky cheese, pears and chocolate to come. Will be well over calories as I only got the school run in exercise today. It's just one day.
We have both found it hard work, but also wonderful. It tried my patience occasionally, especially when I was struggling with the Skype thing. If DH had been well he wouldn't have been so tired, but even his infinite patience with Bea was tested.
It is so worth it though as we have given my son and DDIL the kind of break I could only dream of when I was a parent. So good for a couple and a marriage. I know they are very grateful.
My favourite smell is gunpowder. The kind you have in fireworks. I love that smell and it reminds me of my back garden when I was a child, when we had our Bonfire Night on the 5th of November. Wellington boots, damp weather and waving sparklers around in my gloved hand.

Lisa! So excited for you, just know you will knock it out of the park and one groups loss will certainly be the other groups gain!
Cari, what I sometimes do is open MFP in two windows, read one and comment in the other, then when I'm done I can just post the reply and everything is done. I don't do that when I'm at work or on my tablet, can only do it when on my desktop at home, but I have found it helps me. My posts tend to be longer that way, but I do get to comment on more things directly. My posts aren't usually very short anyway, so probably nobody notices a difference....
Barbie, so glad to hear that you are feeling so much better, you've done a wonderful job with knowing your limitations and staying within them, I'm sure that contributed to your healing fairly quickly! Also, thank you so much for starting this thread anew every month!
Rebecca, feeling sad for you, missing your boy. My boy moved a few provinces away and, while I have seen him most years since he's been gone, it's only once per year, and only for a few days at a time. He keeps saying he's moving back here, I've quit hoping and will believe it when I see him standing on our doorstep. sigh.
Heather, so glad things are getting organized in the new home.
Machka, I continue to marvel at how much you accomplish and at your husband's steady progress.
I know there were others that I wanted to comment on, but my memory fails.... I am still struggling daily, but I think I might be getting a handle on things again, keeping my fingers crossed for that!! lol
In the meantime, hugs for those needing one, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Finished this yesterday, busy with a final push so I can deliver the ornaments to the craft store the day after Thanksgiving, which means only two weeks from today!! Argggghh
Love you my friends,

Lisa: I’m with you on Walter Farley and Dick Francis. His son is now writing the books. I am sending good thoughts for the positions that you are aiming at with the Girl Scouts. I think you’ll be brilliant and happier.
Jan: Annie is gorgeous!
We’ve had a weather shift to much cooler air. It is definitely chilly today and I’m cold even though I have on a thermal top and quilted vest. BRRR!

Had my flu shot this morning. We walked to the surgery and I got in most of my steps for today.
💖 All the Gratitude posts. We have so much for which to be thankful.
30 Day of Gratitude:5) Sound - the sound of hubby snoring in the middle of the night. Very reassuring8) The book which means the most to me is my Journal. I have been writing Journals for over 20 years. I started in hard-backed notebooks, and they have gone through many reincarnations. There are so many volumes they have their own shelves in my study. At present I am using a bullet Journal format. 9) My favourite place is my garden. It's quiet and peaceful. It's taken us almost 40 years to create, and we have many mature trees which block out the houses around us. When we started, it was a flat field, with the countryside beyond, and a field of cows directly behind us. No wthe town has washed past us, and we are in a leafy suburb.
6) In Nature - walking along the coastline which is just a mile from my home.
7) Memory - nursing my 11 day old granddaughter at 6 am on her first Christmas morning.

Fabulous garden Terri!
Lisa - Sounds like you have a great chance at the new job. Much better for you without all the travelling.
Good luck.

Heather UK : It's wearing it's summer finery. At the moment the trees are ablaze with autumn colour, but it's too wet, and dark to take a photo tonight. Lol!1

#8 BOOK. Like many of us here, the Bible, but not just one version, all the different versions allow for a better understanding of the writings. As a child, anything to do with horses, like Black zzz Beauty, or science fiction. Still a sci-fi fan!
#9 PLACE anywhere in nature. There is so much beauty around us if we just take the time to notice.

I started a new exercise routine at the gym since I was given the ok to exercise after an injury. I've join MFP when I shifted to maintenance mode. I'm eating less than I should. I lost three pounds the last two weeks of October, but the weight loss has stalled since.
Are you not wanting to lose more? You said you’re on maintenance now. With the holidays coming, we’ll all cheer each other on to make good choices. We DO worry about our kids, don’t we, but they’ll turn their lives in new directions, and we get to stand back and cross our fingers that it works. Just because they’re back in your house doesn’t mean you live your life for them. It’s time for YOU, now. Just my opinion.
