Kelly - totally understand what you are saying.
Linda in Northern Ontario - Welcome back, sucks you lost everything and I’m glad you weren’t hurt more than you were. That could have been much worse.
Katla in NW Oregon - Great resolutions and pictures of the completed afghan I bet it is beautiful. Hoping things get better for you with the air quality, the fires in California are devastating.
Irish Terri - I have had to start exercising indoors due to the weather turning colder and it gets dark so much earlier. I love being outside to do my exercises but at least it will only be for a few months.
Heather - I have a typed up list of medication along with dosage that I have in my wallet behind my license in case of an emergency. You should do that so you have the list with you at all times. Wishing today be a better day for you!!!!
Penny - That is awesome you are going to visit and help out with your dad, enjoy them they won’t be here forever. My dad is gone 19 years and I miss him just as much as the day he left us. My mom is still her (going on 93 in Jan) and we all try to spend time with her. Love the scenery where you live.
Barbie from NW Washington - I would go outside to exercise in the chilly weather but when I get home from work I don’t have much time before it gets dark. But the wind here (hence the Windy City) has been terrible and it is not as enjoyable exercising. Enjoy your warmer weather.
Machka in Oz - great job on the 10K distance!!
Pat in Oh - Welcome back !!! Gorgeous pictures. Hope the health challenges improve.
Lisa in AR - Awesome job on the weight loss 42 lbs is terrific. Fingers crossed on the job possibility
Barbie - Loving your quote about Thanksgiving
Pipcd34 - my in laws and a really good friend have been to Alaska on a cruise and loved every minute of it. So happy Cruising for your 60th. PS I will also be 60 in June!!! HAPPY 60 CLUB!!
Gratitude # 15 My season is summer when we can spend time at our summer home in IN, the kids and their friends coming to visit, boating together, hanging out, BBQ’s, bond fires at night. Love spending time with our boys and their friends keep us young.
Busy evening last night, my sons girlfriends daughter who is 6 and like a grandchild to me wanted me to help her make Christmas presents for all of her family. So Oriental Trading her I come, ordered Styrofoam picture frames and all kinds of bling for her to put on them. She had a blast. I have to get the pictures printed up (been taking pictures of her with family members the last month for her) and then I am going to let her decorate plain colored gift bags with markers.
Got my hour on the treadmill doing intervals finished before she got there so had over 18,000 steps in for the day. 12,000 is my daily goal.
Also received awesome news my mom (who I mentioned is going to be 93 in Jan) called she is cancer free after getting the results from her CAT scan last week. She had Large Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in her throat and a spot of cancer on one of her lungs. She did a few weeks of radiation for both spots. Best Holiday present ever.
Signing off for now!!! Hugs to all

Hello ladies, Will introduce myself. Been on and off Pal for many years. Fighting this weight battle since I was about 4 years old. Had Gastric Bypass 15 years ago and lost around 180 pounds. Gained 50 back and want to get that and about 10 more off. Never did reach my goal. Never did conquer my food issues and don't honestly know if we every do if we haven't by this age. I am 51 and been feeling very lonely. Lost the last of my family last year. My only brother who never married or had kids, neither have I and folks are gone. Have distant cousins etc. but no one I am really close to. A few friends but basically feel pretty alone. Can't seem to find a decent fellow. Seems like they only want one thing these days. Since I was extremely overweight most of my life I didn't really date until my 40's and met a few nice ones but no one wanted to settle down. It was like I was living my 20's in my 40's and they were over that. Been at a rock bottom emotionally and physically but just met with a trainer at the gym and started seeing a counselor so hope to do the work this year and leave the results up to God instead of obsessing even though my hope is to get the 60 off and build my strength and endurance. I am going to try this philosophy as a bit of a change as I've always been so goal focused and then when it didn't go as I hoped I'd quit. Found a mug that said Quit dreaming and start doing... that kind of hit me. Anyway feel like I am babbling. Also just hit menopause in July and SAD for the year so am sure that lent to my BOTTOM. Like the Wynona Judd song and I've been sideways for a while so ready to go straight up! Look forward to getting acquainted.11

Barbie—Your new stove looks exactly like one I had to leave behind in NC. I loved that stove. I've got a new one here, but it's gas, and I'm used to electric. Everyone says gas is better, but I'm not buying it. When I turned the electric on, it came on. It didn't click and throw sparks, refusing to ignite until the second or third try. It never made me worry it might catch something beside the stove on fire. And it was MUCH easier to clean.
Heather—Three years ago I moved from North Carolina to Texas—who does that after being established for 30 years? It was stressful in ways I never expected. Getting my driver's license was just the tip of that iceberg, and I think I'm still trying to get settled. You tackled my nemesis, with all your calls. I hate calling and making arrangements by phone—or worse—by email. At least most of those things will stay done, and you can cross them off.
SueBDew—I'm in Lewisville, and I'd be happy to meet new friends.
Michelle—could you store the cookies in airtight containers in the garage? My grandma used to bake cookies two months before Christmas, and store them in a cold crawl space under the stairs. If the containers seal, they'll keep and won't attract bugs.
You could order your tea pods online. I've discovered there are so many online resources, and these days many places offer free shipping.
Margaret—I admire that you're working to help your son, and make sure he has a forever home. I've got a son back in NC, and he's struggling. He chose to stay behind when we moved, so he lost his home and support. We do what we can, but he prefers to “couch hop” rather than come here with us. He's trying hard to make it on his own, and he's always welcome here if things get too tough. It's hard to want him to succeed, and be unable to help.
Machka—Congratulations on the personal best! I envy runners. I grew up in a house of smokers, and running always makes me feel like coughing my lungs up. I could walk for hours, but pick up the pace and I can't get enough air.
Penny—your pictures are enchanting! I never imagined stark landscapes and snow could be so beautiful. Good luck on continuing your streak.
Pat in Oh—Is that Ohio? I grew up in New Philadelphia Ohio. I sure miss the fall leaves there, so thanks for the pictures. You're not a downer. Your attitude is positive even though your circumstances are sad.
As to the gratitude calendar, it's hard to choose one season. I even like winter, with its crisp air, and the scent of wood fires. It really depends on where I am. In the north, I love fall. There were so many maple trees where I grew up, and fall would bring out their brilliant colors, and the crunch when you walk through the leaves. It's always better to bundle up to stay warm, than undress and struggle to stay cool. My all-time favorite is Indian Summer, after the leaves change, and you get that last week of warm weather before you put summer behind you.
Here in the south, spring tops Autumn. Up north spring slips in unnoticed, and it's not until the daffodils are fading before you realize it's really going to stay warmer. In the south, spring bursts in like a fireworks display, with red buds, forsythia, Bradford pears, dogwoods, azaleas, AND daffodils. Spring is like the starting pistol of the year, and everything goes green before you've even had time to pack away your winter clothes.
I appreciate winter more here in Texas. It gets cold enough to kill off the mosquitoes, but deep snow is rare. I'm not likely to need to dig the car out, or shop for bread and milk because of ice in the forecast. Winter means no mowing, no sweating, no fire ants, and no homeowner association telling me to pull the weeds from the flower beds. It means cuddling under warm throws in front of the fireplace.
Cari in N. Texas4 -
Cari: I have fuchsia baskets on hangers. We bought one new plant this year, and dislike it due to the ratty appearance of it. It doesn't do well in wind, and we are in a windy spot. HOWEVER, we have 5 others fuchsia plants that have over wintered, some of them more than once. They have lived through snow and ice storms. We take them down from their hangers and tuck them under our rhododendron bushes. I wonder if they’ll make it through another winter. Re: Thanksgiving leftovers: Many of the food items freeze very well. Send pies home with your guests. You can have pecan pie if you want it, simply count the calories and eat less of something else.
Lanette & Peach: I love the idea of using men’s socks to make the grain bags. Great idea!
Heather: Changing doctors is stressful. At the time we moved here, our long-time doctor retired and moved away, so we went looking for new. DH found someone he liked, but the lady I went to wasn’t what I was looking for. She wanted to refer me to a specialist for every little thing. DH’s new doctor closed his practice and moved away, so DH went looking for a new primary care doctor again. I went with him and we both liked a local internist very much and both switched to her. I would recommend looking for a woman doctor. In general, they seem to be more thorough and better listeners. Good luck.
Pip: Great photo of you and Kirby with the water feature behind you.
Lanette: I loved Third Rock from the Sun.
Barbie: The new stove looks great!
Machka: #15: Favorite Season: My favorite seasons are spring and summer. I love the long period of sunlight. It is fall here and the days are getting shorter. We’ve filled our home with daylight temperature light bulbs. They really help combat the wintertime blues that come along with shorter days of winter. Congrats on your personal best 10 k run.
Trish: Love the fall leaves!
Lisa: Sending good thoughts your way for the job and the knee surgery.
Allie: I can’t imagine snow before Thanksgiving. The truth is that we rarely get snow at all. Most of the snow events I can recall have come in January.
Penny: I’ve stopped visiting facebook. As a result, I’ve lost contact with some of my friends. I have phone numbers and email addresses that I use for those I want to stay in touch with.
Lucyogrady: Welcome to a great group of supportive women. Stop by often and get to know us.
I’m washing clothes & getting ready to go to yoga. My yoga pants are in the machine and won’t be dry in time for class, so I’ll have to go in my jeans. I hope they’ll turn out to be okay for the task. The pair I am wearing are stretchy and I think they’ll get the job of bending and stretching in yoga done well enough.
Have a great day!

Hello all,
Busy, busy day!
With the doctors over here you register in a practice and it's pot luck who you see. I know exactly what my ONE medication is, but that is not what they want. They have to have official notification of your repeat prescription. Not take your word for it. My old practice has faxed over my script, I hope. Will try again tomorrow. Remember medical treatment is free here, even if a bit chaotic.
My Portsmouth friend came over by train today and I walked over to Hove station to meet her. Then we walked back here and I cooked lunch. Then we all, including DH, went out for a long walk taking in the park, the fish market, the prom and an ice cream. We ate the ice cream sitting on the beach. Then we walked her back to the station via my son's house.
All in all, I walked 6 miles and that was after my 600 calories exercises this morning. I think I deserved the ice cream. It is the best ice cream I have had outside Paris. My friend and I had chocolate. DH had salted caramel.
The woman who wanted the icing cutters took them this morning. I have put a bicycle as WANTED on the Freecycle site.
Now relaxing. DH was in the garden this morning and managed to slice his finger open with a secateur. It's unusual for him to join us for a walk, but he seemed quite happy.
I broached the idea of cancelling our spring cruise with him and he didn't seem devastated, or even surprised. We have until the New Year to decide. Apart from the high cost, which we could do without, we will be leaving the day before Brexit. If the worst happens and there is no deal, then I don't know what the situation will be re going ashore etc. The port will be jammed because of goods piling up. At least we don't have to decide right now.
Hope the job works out, Lisa.
Sorry to hear about your circumstances, Trish.
Welcome new people! :drinker:

I guess it’s time for a formal introduction since I have been lurking and sporadically posting.
I’m Ann, been doing WW and MFP off and on for 15 years. Had great success with WW 14 years ago, goal weight, best shape of my life, then we moved from Cincinnati to eastern Washington when I took a new job and the stress was significant. Add to that 3 kids all starting various sports/hobbies and a husband that started coaching at a local high school, and before I knew it, I had no time for myself. Need to lose 75 lbs, but would be ecstatic with 50 cuz it just doesn’t come off like it used to!
Youngest kid is now a senior in HS, so I am starting to rediscover more time for myself, and need to cuz the blood pressure, cholesterol, etc is getting higher. I NEED to focus on myself because quite frankly, I am an emotional wreck with the imminent departure of my last chick - who decided to go to college 2500 miles away next fall.
Looking for a little camaraderie and support, and love the vibe you all have with this group!
Love the inspiration posts, so let me catch up on the more recent ones:
13 Ability ...Organization. Sometimes to my detriment cuz others just leave things to me, but order/juggling has just come naturally.
14 Sight ...Seeing all three of my kids together at dinner, Xmas morning, whenever. As they are all going different directions nowadays at 24, 19, and 18 yo, I treasure seeing them all together, laughing, and teasing their dad!
15 Season ...Fall. Something about the change in the air to frosty, crisp, and cool just makes me feel good. Plus I love football, so start of the two go hand in hand! 😉

Well, made it to the doctor. I really like her. She actually read my paperwork before talking to me, and was very thorough about addressing my concerns, and honest about what she thought I could/should do. She is going to wait before putting me on any meds for anything, she gave me a nutrition plan and wants me to try that for about three months and then get new labs done. As far as the irregular menstrual cycle, she has ordered an ultrasound and about three other blood tests. Once I get those done and see if I can get a few pounds off, we will talk and see when she wants to see me next. IN the meantime, I did schedule my annual physical with her in March and also my mammogram in January. So fingers crossed, there will be nothing that gets me in there sooner than that! She had the most wonderful Russian accent!
Gratitude #15 What season am I grateful for today. Well, today I am grateful for winter! I am a four season girl. I enjoy them all. They begin when I am ready for them and change just when I need them to (yes, I do get sick of summer). BUT...as I get older, I seem to enjoy the peacefulness of winter, more and more. Maybe because everything and everyone just slows down. There is less going on (once you get past the holidays) and more time just to be still. mmmmm
Beth- Well, obviously, seeing your talents and abilities is not one of your abilities! So...allow me to help you! You have the ability to multi task and take care of yourself, your hubby, and your boys. You have the ability to stand up and be the voice for those who need it. You have the ability to persevere! Stand strong and lean in. YOU are amazing!

Omg—Joaquin is a heartbreaker—such a cutie
Welcome Ann I found this wonderful group of ladies when my DD was a senior in hs and I didn’t want to feel (or look) the way I did for her graduation. She’s a junior in college now and I’ve lost the weight and kept my blood pressure in check. One step, one bite at a time and keep checking in!
NYKAREN3 -
KJ -- That Joaquin is too much!
I'm suffering a little today because my husband is gone, and when he is gone, the cat likes to sleep on my bed. Which is fine, if she stays at the foot or the far edge, but last night, she decided to get all loving right up in my face, and I let her settle down on my chest for a nap. I am allergic to cats. Tough way to be because I have come to realize that I am a cat person. Anyway, my eyes were really bad by time I had her move, and this morning, my voice/breath is really raspy. I put drops in my eyes last night, so they are better, but one is still itchy and scratchy. Totally worth it though. She is a doll.
Here she is on my chest -- right in my face!

KJ: Your comments to Beth were excellent. Beth is amazing, and so are you! You have clear vision and understanding. :flowerforyou:
I have been knitting a baby blanket for my grandniece's baby and had a mishap. Somewhere I dropped a stich, so I backed all the way out past the dropped stitch and am going forward again-- at last. It felt like it took forever! Of course it didn’t actually take more than a few hours. . :grumble:
Have a great day!

Joaquin OMG I love that little boy and I've never even met him! LOL!!!
___________
Most of you know I am homeschooling my grandson this year for the first time. He has some Asperger-ish characteristics. I decided to give him a weighted blanket. It arrived yesterday. He loves it! When I told him about it, he couldn't quite visualize it, but now he's enamored with it. Yay!

My new stove is a Kenmore. It's prettier and newer than the stove we bought in 2004 when we moved into our last house (alas, we had to leave the stove with the house when we sold it). It will get a big test for Thanksgiving. Today I cooked omelets in one pan and hash browns in another and now I'm making some packaged freezer stuff in the oven.
Jake had cataract surgery on his second eye this morning and all seems to be going well. He came home, ate lunch, and lay down for a three hour nap which gave me some much enjoyed alone time that I used partly to do kitchen chores and partly to watch TV and do computer stuff. He'll have a check-up on his eye tomorrow morning.
At dance this morning I felt extra clumsy and was worried until I noticed that I'd accidentally worn dog walking shoes instead of dance shoes so my feet were much heavier.
Penny, I feel your pain about troubles with your step counter. I have had troubles with mine and I was surprised at how sad I was about it.
Jo, I am really fortunate to be retired and living in a community where walking in the dark is safe. Otherwise, I'd have to seek more indoor alternatives. I walk my dogs for about two hours in the morning which at this time of year is mostly in the dark. Good news about your mom.
Cari, On one of our moves we bought a house with a gas stove and spent a significant amount of money getting the kitchen wired so I could have an electric stove. I had to use the gas stove for five months and I didn't get used to it and didn't like it.
lucyogrady, Welcome. I found MFP at age 62 after decades of failure at weight loss. I started by making a plan for my day of what I would eat and logging the food into my food diary. For many days I found myself watching the clock waiting for time for my next meal. I read this thread every day and read other things about healthy eating and exercise to help me create a slightly better plan each day. I figured out a plan that works for me. My eating is simple and I stopped eating for recreation and entertainment. Willingness was the first step for me. I hope you will keep coming back.
Ann in SE WA, you have found the best place for camaraderie and support. I hope you will keep coming back.

Trish, so sorry to hear of sil's passing.
Kelly, oh my! Can Joaquin get any cuter??? I don't think so! lol
Lisa sounds like you might have a new job soon! It will go well with your new knee!
Penny, love the photos from the top of the world, stunning!
Heather, we moved over a year ago and are still finding places that don't have our new address! We did all the "important" ones, but I was just at the optometrist a few days ago and they still had our old address and phone number.
So, as I said, saw my optometrist a few days ago, was all ready to shell out for new glasses but he said my vision hasn't undergone any significant changes so it's not necessary! Woohoo! He also didn't dilate my eyes and I didn't have to pay anything as my extended benefits thru work covered it! Yay!!
That's my excitement for the week, lol.
Welcome to the newbies, hugs for those needing them and congrats to those celebrating!

Did an advanced strength DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to take the water class
Margaret – I didn’t realize you knew that the house needed TLC, I thought you just found out. At least you were prepared. If the radon level had been bad, wouldn’t they have had to remediate it before the house could be sold?
Janetr – I’ll have to look at my WalMart. The last time I looked the one didn’t have tea, but since then the WM Neighborhood Market opened. They carry some different things that the other WM. For example, I can’t get the 8oz cups of yogurt at the Neighborhood Market but I can at the smaller store. I can get the individual boxes of raisins at the Neighborhood Market but not at the smaller store. Go figure!
Unfortunately, it’s raining cats & dogs here, but I really want to go to the soup kitchen and get the snacks from the general meeting out of my car and take some of the cookies to Lynette (less to tempt me). Even tho I’m supposed to be at the Green Room tomorrow and it’s supposed to be sunny, I want to get them out of my sight so I might very well stop there anyway.
Viv – what does MOT stand for?
Penny – there is no way Vince will touch Facebook. More and more people that I know won’t go there, either. It’s so frustrating when you forget something. I do hope your husband finds the cord
NYKaren – love your feeling of counting blessings not calories. I’d heard the quote from barbie before (the calories that matter are the ones between New Years and Thanksgiving). So true!
Trish – lovely photos
Newcomer bowling tonight
Went to the soup kitchen and dropped off the food then Lynette’s to give her some of her cookies. Volunteered at the Green Room then went to Dollar General, they had some toys on sale so I got some for Toys for Tots. Then went to Food Lion to get chicken to cook and sweet potatoes (29 cents/lb!). Made oatmeal raisin cookies, some for us and some for Lynette Got dinner ready and my breakfast for tomorrow to take to the Green Room. Update: I'm going to make another batch of the oatmeal raisin cookies for us and gave Lynette the ones I had for us since there wasn't much.
Jo in Chicago – that’s just great about your mom.
We had a breakout today. I was at the Green Room so I never opened the screen door for Shadow. Vince was in the living room and out walks Shadow. Seems she pushed the screen off the wooden frame and got out. I took a picture of it and said to Jess “where there’s a will, there’s a way”. I’m glad that Shadow feels comfortable enough to WANT to come out. I can tell she’s still conflicted, coming out means she has to be with those “other” cats. But one step at a time.
Cari – I’d be afraid to store the cookies in the garage. One time I put cookies on our screened-in porch. But some animal chewed thru the screen! I’d be afraid they’d chew thru the container. That’s a wonderful idea to get the tea pods online. I never thought of doing that.
Welcome to any newcomers that I may have missed
Have a butternut squash in the oven roasting. The timer just went off so need to go see if it’s soft enough.
It rained so much that our septic is pretty full, when I run the water in the kitchen the sink downstairs starts to gurgle. So trying to use as little water as possible. Vince said to me “you go to the bathroom at bowling, not at home”
Ann – welcome to a great group of women
Kj – Joaquin gets cuter and cuter all the time. I especially like the look on his face in the second pic
Trish – So sorry for your SIL
Allie – sorry to hear about your aunt
I did find that if I take Vince’s 16oz cup (stainless steel) to the Green Room, I can get 12oz of water in it. I just have to remove the drain while I’m brewing the tea, then return the drain. But at least I can get a larger amount of tea
