Well I'm home and in bed, what a lovely evening with good friends...music was great..3

Kim from N CA - Your costume is perfect. What did you use for the hair? Raffia?
Lisa in AR - My Goldie kitty has a mew that sounds like “mom” also. And that word causes me to turn and say “What??”, even though I’m 75, in the supermarket. I’m glad you found “happy” again once you got back home.
Carol in GA - Thanks for trying again to vote! I feel very strongly that it’s a right we should all exercise.
Heather - I had such joy in the photo of you two by the sea! I love happy faces! By the way, I’m glad you found your underwear! It’s the little things that count. Being with your grandkids is a HUGE thing! You’ll love watching them grow and change from a close range.
Penny at the NP - I love the way you greeted trick or treaters!
Oh Beth! Your mindset is so very wise! And your family is blessed to all be in the know and able to prepare for whatever comes - good or bad. I’ll have you in my thoughts in the coming months.
NYKaren - How right you are about habits! It’s something I hear all the time in my bypass support group!
Machka - Please schedule some just-for-you stuff in that workload. We have to refill ourselves sometime! I have fun by getting a new audio book, going to my daughter’s house for dinner and to play w grandson and watch a movie her DH has chosen. I do that once a week and plan to continue after surgery, only I’ll provide my own dinner. A day or two can feel like much longer, and you need it. I love your 30 days of gratitude calendar!
Okie! How wonderful that you can fit into that prom dress! You look lovely. There's nothing better to me than spending time with a lifelong friend. So glad you had fun.
Allie - Doesn’t it feel a bit odd to regret they cancelled your colonoscopy? I’m sorry for the reason, though. Hope they get it sorted out.
Jo in Ill - Welcome! Sounds like you do a great job of setting up a goal and plan and sticking to it. I’m starting to plan for that day by questioning now what it will feel like when I get there.
Josie from Palmetto - I’m glad you found this group. They’re amazing. Aren’t you in the area that Matthew impacted? Hope all is ok. Most of us spent a while finding and losing the same pounds. Tracking my food faithfully has helped me keep track of what I ACTUALLY atevs what I pretended.
Karen in VA - You are doing great! Being aware of trends is important. I know you are likely to make better food choices this month! The photos of your grandkids are darling! I still love dinosaurs since my DGS showed me what there is about them to be passionately interested in.
Rory, seeing inches lost is a big deal. I haven’t seen much of that yet, but people say I look like I’ve lost weight, so something is going on.
Dana in AR - I’m so glad your DD is finding her way a bit since the hurricane, but her ex sounds too stalker-ish for my comfort. Tell her to be careful.
Kathy from Portland - Logging is the right ticket! You’ve done the big job, now learning how to maintain is the rest. You CAN do this!
Barbie, I just know you’re going to love the changes in your kitchen. Small things make a big difference.
KJ Kelly - I’m so glad there are folks like you to care for our children when we need it, even at their worst, without judging them. My life would have been very much worse without folks like you, and so would theirs. I love the typewriter thing!
Janetr, those babies are too sweet for words!
Sue in WA - Hugs! Hope the results from biopsy are ok.
Kim from N CA - A trip to an ice cream museum is a “know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em” kind of experience! I’d do likewise.
Lisa in AR - Running around the house nekkid time is imperative for my happiness. I’m glad your son is doing so well coming out of financial problems and depression. Either one is tough.
Cari in N TX - Good for you! That’s an astonishingly rapid loss. Did your doctor express approval of all you’ve done?
Wessecg - looks like you're having the winter troubles a lot of us have. I don't think it's just the holidays. I think a lot of us get a bit of SAD in the winter. Start by logging your food and drink on here. This app makes it easy. Lovely horse, btw.
Mary from Ontario, has your doctor ever brought up weight loss surgery with you? It sounds like something you might think abou I'm 75 and will be having mine in December, I think. Who gave you the 1630 calorie goal?
Lanette, the political thing is precisely why I simply urge folks to vote. We need to hear all voices before we understand which way to go.
Felicia, try to plan something fun while your DH is gone! I wish you could go too.
Sofia - it's easy to get depressed when weight gain gets us down. Try focusing on one thing, like logging your food every day at first. That will help you see where you can make healthier choices. It IS hard to keep up with posts, so read what you can.
New Carol - Welcome! So glad you found us!
Barbara AHMOD, those symptoms can also mean stroke. Please at least call your doctor and ask!
Irish Terri, you're my kind of gal! No boredom for you!
Kate in UK, so I'm still, so far, the oldest on here, but you're all getting fit, so I have hope too!
Sharon near Seattle7 -
Oh dear! I won’t post so huge again! Sorry!3

My sister-in-law posted this and I thought it was good ...
So ...
Nov 1 - my roses.
Nov 2 - social media and staying connected with family and friends.
Nov 3 - blue. The blue of the mouth of the river/bay/start of the ocean out my window. The blue of the sky. My new blue sleeping top that was nice and comfy last night.
Machka in Oz
Nov 4 - food ... cheese. I ate a lot of grilled cheese sandwiches when my husband was in hospital. They were my comfort food. Also cheese has calcium which I think I need. Unfortunately, cheese does tend to be a bit high in calories so I shouldn't eat too much of it. But anything cheese-y is comforting.
Machka in Oz
Nov 5 - sound. I like listening to the waves and the birds, but I think the sound I'm most grateful for today is my husband's voice. Just the fact that we can talk to each other again.
M in Oz4 -
Did the entire 10 Minute Solution Tighten and Tone Pilates DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do one segment of the 10 Minute Solution Butt Lift DVD, hold my plank, then take the extremepump class.
M – how I wish summer was coming! We just turned the clocks back (boo, boo)
Kate and Lisa – I so agree, I’ve learned that a pound or two isn’t the end of the world. That’s one of the things I’ve learned on this forum
Does anyone else keep getting the message “site temporarily down for maintenance”? It gets annoying because you close the app, open it again, and it works! Or if I go to log a food, it’ll say that site is down but when I go back, the addition has already been done.
pip and Kirby – great run!
We trimmed the bushes today. I really don’t care for the bushes (at least some of them). To me, they are too large and a security risk. Vince feels they’re OK as long as you can see between them. I still want some smaller ones. And there is one that really scares the life out of me when Vince has to trim it. It’s on a slope and he has an electric hedge trimmer and has to stand on a ladder with me holding it. I’d love to get a tree like we had when we were in PA. It’s an evergreen, in Christmas tree shape. But it grows VERY slowly. In the 12 years we lived in PA, I don’t think we once trimmed that tree. Now that’s the kind of tree for me. But I know that he’s concerned about the cost. He feels that its only once/year that they have to be trimmed. I feel they should be trimmed more than once/year. Last year we didn’t trim them – life just got in the way. I’d like to get bushes that don’t grow above 4 or 5 feet.
Sorry, I don’t remember who asked for it, but I remember someone asked for the recipe for the grapefruit pie:
1 (9inch) pie crust, baked (I used graham cracker)
4 pink grapefruit
½ cup white sugar
2T cornstarch
¾ cup grapefruit juice
1 (3oz) pkg strawberry flavored jello-o
Peel grapefruit, removing all pith. Cut up into bite-size pieces, drain in a strainer for 4 or more house, collecting the juice (this can be done the day before)
Combine the sugar, cornstarch, and ¾ cup juice in a small saucepan, if the collected juice does not measure ¾ cup, top it off with water. Bring to a boil. Stir in strawberry gelatin. Cool slightly
Spread grapefruit in the bottom of the baked shell and pour gelatin over the fruit. Chill several hours or overnight
Cool Whip can be used as a topping. Enjoy!

I had a long riding lesson, a good time, & came home with a very sore backside. I was using my bareback pad to work on balance & had a great lesson but—ouch!3

Didn't get to sleep until well gone 1 am and then I was wide awake at 5.20. Grrrrrrrrrr! I'm not anxious about anything, just have a lot of new experiences to process I guess. DH has been sleeping well.
I did fall asleep on the sofa late afternoon yesterday. Probably why I wasn't tired at night.
Another day of emptying boxes and changing addresses for us. Slowly getting there, but we need to clear some space in DH's study, so the aerial man can get in there on Thursday. The room is full of boxes and he will be running in a new aerial from the roof. . . .
Generally though the house is giving me joy. Every box emptied and put away is a small achievement. Every new address notification is satisfying. Google now knows where my home is. So does BBC weather.
The flow of the house is good on the ground floor. Our living room is like a cave, with it opening out onto a light dining area extension, which then bends round into a galley kitchen. That makes a loop back into the living room. Makes it easy to communicate without all your washing up all being on show.
Upstairs there are two floors. DH has the bathroom on our bedroom floor. I use it in the night. My bathroom is bigger and has a big bath in it, but is another steep floor up in the loft extension. I intend to write up there and it will be great as a guest suite and for the grandchildren. Bea is still a bit young for the stairs. She still sleeps in a cot at her house. Sometimes I'm annoyed at having to go upstairs to the bathroom, but stairs are good exercise and it's very private. It was my choice.
The garden is much bigger than we expected to have in this urban area and is very shrubby. Lots of small trees and large bushes, so there are masses of little birds out there and a squirrel. A beautiful jay yesterday. They are all tweeting right now!
It is lovely having breakfast and lunch sitting at our table looking out into the garden. In Hampshire we rarely ate at the table unless we had guests. Breakfast there was in bed, but here we love it in our kitchen/diner.
I'm still taking DH up a cup of tea though.
Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxxx5 -
Pip That is so inspiring. Wonderful run for both of you. Congratulations!
Michele That grapefruit pie sounds fascinating. I have never seen a citrus fruit recipe before. It sounds like a fruit jello dessert/salad but in a pie shell. Do you like it?
Cheri Did you get yourselves totally l moved in and your new furniture exactly where you want it? Would love to see a couple more pics. I've been enjoying Ros's cat pics on FB.
Heather So glad for you after all the anxieties you endured getting into your house.

Hi newbies!
Penny here. I sign myself /Penny at the and that's almost true. I live with my arctic scientist husband in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, just 800 miles from the North Pole. We have a son and a daughter living in Stockholm, Sweden, and our son has a son and a daughter, 7 (almost 8) and 6 years old.
Living in the High Arctic has its challenges and rewards. We have no trees and no real summer, but no mosquitoes or snakes either. It's nowhere near as cold as you think, but on those rare occasions when the weather turns really nasty it can be dangerous walking as little as 10 yards outdoors. We have midnight sun (=24-hour daylight) from mid-April to late August and polar night (=24-hour darkness) for about three months in the winter. The sun dipped below the horizon about a week ago and won't rise again until mid-February. But don't anybody feel sorry for me! Like most of the long-term inhabitants, I LOVE our dark season!
I'm 63 years old, 5'2" tall and currently weigh 150 lbs. My weight has varied over the years but I've generally been a bit on the heavy side. When I log my food, I lose weight. Back in the spring, I lost about 7 pounds through consistent logging. For the past couple months I've had far too much work to do and quit logging my food, but I've maintained weight stability by getting lots of exercise. I jog almost daily and recently hit a grand total of 600 kilometers since 1 July. (I hope to get to 1500 km before 30 June 2019.) I'm a freelance editor and translator, mainly focused on scientific literature. I also teach scientific writing to PhD students.
Machka - Great gratitude calendar! I'll add my two-bits worth.
1. Smell - The spicy, musky smell of the sun-warmed fur of a cat at the end an outdoor summer. Or a Scandinavian peat bog, which smells surprisingly simliar!
2. Technology - Modern dentistry! I shudder at the thought of the agonies people must have endured in the old days. (And I sympathize with those of you who are currently discussing procedures involving orofacial/maxillary surgeons and endodontists!)
3. Color - The translucent coppery color of newly unfurled oak leaves. I rarely get to see that nowadays.
4. Food - The sweet, crunchy rutabaga in my daily 500-gram raw veggie box. I found a really good one this week!
5. Sound - Silence the vast, living silence that often envelops me when I step out my door in Longyearbyen. It rejuvenates my soul.

Bonfire Night here, lots of fireworks last night but expect more tonight. Hairdresser this morning for the full works, too much grey showing.
Have to get exercise done before I go so will catch up later.
PIP well done

Can't believe it is 5th November and I'm already 12+ pages behind I'll have to stop reading now as I need to get ready, getting my eyes tested (broke my previous pair of glasses) but it has been nearly two years since my last eye test so maybe a good thing?
Weather turned quite cold here so I'll need to wrap up. Have a great day everyone and welcome to the new people

Morning, all,
Welcome to all the new ones, and welcome back to the ones we haven't seen in a bit! Viv - it's good to see you posting again. Hope the eye test goes well.
Up at 3:30, as someone else said, because was out of it by 8 p.m. last night. Was restless sleep, as it was the first time in a while I haven't taken a sleep aid, so only made it 6 and a half hours, but nonetheless, feel fine.
Penny - I'm right there with you on the quietness - and my husband marvels at how quiet it is here all the time. Not like "nearly to the North Pole" quiet, but so much better than in the city.
My favorite sound is the domestic noises that mean I'm home. I miss them so much when I'm traveling...
I did take pics yesterday, but was too exhausted to post 'em up on the blog. Going to go do that now, as I'm pleased with how it's all turning out, especially the bathroom, which has just a few tiny things left, getting the new door put up, a bit of baseboard trim, and it will be fully done.
Next weekend, three doors to put in (one outside, bedroom and bathroom) and we're yanking out the dishwasher. We need a bit more storage in the kitchen, and want to be able to put a bar stool both sides of the kitchen counter. We've decided we're only going to work one day each weekend on the house, and reserve Sundays for ourselves, and whatever we couldn't complete on the Saturday. We all need a break.
Love y'all,

Had to show this one again3 -
lol It took me two hours to write the above as I was up and down doing things. NY Karen I giggled when I saw coffee as your grateful food. Coffee has made my gratitude journal too many times to count! (probably more than any person!)
Especially the first one in the morning!! For me, that's when I arrive at work. Drop all my stuff in my office, go make a cup of coffee ... and then I can begin my day.

Machka love your Tips and Extras, sounds similar to what works for me. When I'm feeling low or bad, the "just do one thing" to make myself feel better really helps.
I'm doing a lot of the "just do one thing" lately. Last week, I felt like I was spinning in circles and getting nothing done, and then on Friday I told myself to "just do one thing" ... I did and felt much better for it. And I've been doing that each day since then ... and actually getting some stuff done!!

Good morning all! Happy Monday!
Janet- Love the ornaments! You always use such gorgeous colors! I love the jewel tones.
PipWhoot! Go girl! Did Kirby scold you for waiting for him and missing the under 2 hour mark? I am guessing you and Kirby carry phones in case one of you needs the other or help? IF you tell me that those calls that interrupted your race were political; I would believe you. Those are maddening and should be illegal! O.M.G. Your legs are gorgeous!
Michelle- I had problems yesterday logging my food. I had no problem logging in, but every time I tried to log a food item, it will send me to the "site is temporarily down..." page. I just hit the back button and it would take me back to the food diary page, I would hit refresh and it would let me enter it AND it would accept it. But yes, a pain in the booty having to do that each time.
Sharon- lol don't sweat the long post; we all do that from time to time. Except maybe Pip, she tends to keep her posts short and sweet (or sometimes not so sweet )
Well, time to fly. I have one who just finished his breakfast and a couple more pulling in. ttfn xoxoxo

It reminds me of my late sister and a book we read when we were little about trees with golden leaves and little chocolate cookies grew on the trees. lol I can NOT remember the name of the book and I have searched for it, and asked sis (who couldn't remember), so I am wondering if it really wasn't a tree that grew cookies and that storyline was just one that we made up before we were able to read, and had to tell the story from pictures in the book...
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has trees that grew various candies and cookies and things.
The Magicians Nephew has a tree that grew from a packet of toffee, with leaves like the paper the toffee was wrapped in and fruit that was like toffee but juicier.
Or maybe it was "The Cookie Tree".
https://www.amazon.com/Cookie-Tree-Jay-Williams/dp/B0006BPSUU
To quote one of the reviewers ...
""The Village of Owlgate was quiet and tidy, and nothing surprising ever happened there." So when an extraordinary tree with silver bark, golden leaves, and cookies growing on its branches, inexplicably appears in the middle of the square, the villagers are at a loss with what to do with it. Some don't believe it exists. Some think it's a sign of impending doom. Some just can't figure out what its for. The children, however, believe that it is a gift to the city from a kind magician."

Many, many years ago when hubs and I were living in Shanghai, we spent Chinese New Year in Australia and New Zealand. Our hotel suite in Auckland had an oven, which we didn’t have in Shanghai, and we made nachos with lots of jalapeños. We had been missing Tex-Mex and that was the best we could do.

Rebecca - thank you for finding my mojo! Looks like it's having fun.... but it hasn't showed up here yet, lol. Maybe today.
Machka - I am considering going into the cookie tree business, lol. That looks like a great little book, by the way.
Pip- congrats on the race! Drat that phone. Bet it felt good to be in warm sunshine. Looks like we'll be having cool sunshine later this week - some of you are seeing temps in the 20's or lower already at night. Yikes!
Penny - I always love hearing about life in Norway. Is your DH Scandinavian? Do you speak both Norwegian and Swedish? You probably posted and I skipped right over it. Way to go on the jogging!! Is the lone reindeer still around?
Lisa - love the house tour. What lovely property (now that you can see it, lol.)
My decluttering today will be a shelf, maybe 2, in the office. I look around in the living room here and there's plenty that needs to be attacked, but I need to get DH out of here for a few hours so the activity doesn't interfere with his TV watching. Hey, I might find some of my mojo hiding somewhere, lol.
Here's a question about pain.... do any of you notice when you binge on sugar, your arthritis/various aches and pains seem worse? My shoulder pain seems to have started a month ago when those fun size candy bars jumped into my grocery cart. Seems it's getting better now that candy season is over.
Have a good week, ladies!

Today is my 69th birthday. I received this card from 19 year old newlywed granddaughter. Things like this remind me of why I want to be the best, healthiest me I can be.

Heather: I am happy that you are so pleased with your new home! I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a home that was three stories high, unless it was actually a basement plus two stories. I hope you’ll eventually post pictures. :flowerforyou:
Pip: Congratulations on your medals. WTG!!!!!
Allie: Congratulations on a wonderful evening. I hope your new office manager turns out to be a good person. :flowerforyou:
Machka: Today I am grateful for nature’s hummingbirds. I love your 30 days of gratitude. Thank you so much for sharing.
Michele: I’ve seen the site down screen, too. I seem to be able to get around it.
Penny: It is so good to see your post! I’ve missed you.
Lanette: We haven’t had frost yet. The forecast for us has a potential low of 34 on Thursday night. Being next to the river, temps are often more moderate here than just a few miles away &/or higher in elevation. I’m NOT complaining. :noway:
I’m hoping to go to yoga today, and shop for a new phone charger with a nice long cord. The one by my nightstand disappeared. I have no idea where it is. :grumble: Yesterday's bareback pad riding lesson left me with a very sore backside. I think I've already whined about that. I'm guessing I'll have to work at keeping my whine to myself.
