Tracy, your ornaments are lovely! Enjoy the holiday train!
KJ, sorry to hear about your MIL, I sure hope your hubby does go to see her, and soon. When my dad was in hospital and the end was near, my older son and I went there for a few hours early afternoon. That night, around 7, I just got the feeling that I should go back up, but talked myself out of it and rationalized saying I would go up first thing in the morning. He passed around 11 pm. I am really trying to follow my instincts now and if I have a strong feeling like that again, I will follow through.
Lisa, my cats used to try different doors hoping for better weather too! Pretty hard to convince them that it was going to be the same....
Machka, love the snow and sand men! Your hubby is sure lucky to have you on his side, I can't even begin to imagine just what would be happening to him if he didn't have you as an advocate!
Karen in VA and all others in the path of the storm, I hope you all keep safe and warm.
Allie, Mary must be one unhappy woman to have to inflict that much conflict on the workplace. Not fun for anyone else either, to have to put up with her.
Staff Christmas party last night, managed to drag hubby there, he didn't even kick or scream too much. Honestly, sometimes it's just easier to leave him at home! We didn't stay late as I'm at work this morning, and worked all day yesterday also. Was supposed to be off at 4, but a couple came in at 3:57 and wanted to rent a storage unit. I was tempted to ask them to come back today, but then I asked myself "What would Donna (our manager) do?" Well, Donna would stay late and rent them the locker, so that's what I did. I still got home in plenty of time to get ready, I really don't need a lot of time, I don't do too much for makeup and was just wearing dress pants and a dressy top, so not a lot of fuss and bother there. And I will get paid for the extra time, so it's not like I'm out anything.
Hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Happy National Weary Willie Day!
"This holiday was named for the character made famous by Emmett Kelly, who was born on this day in 1898. Weary Willie Day celebrates the art of clowning and the impact that it has had on our lives." Willie is before my time, but the history of Emmett Kelly and Willie says a lot about how we as a society use entertainment to get us through hard times.
Evelyn - Good on your for giving yourself a break. This time of year seems to come loaded with all kinds of expectations and temptations. Allowing yourself a little "time off" to enjoy the holidays sounds like an excellent idea, especially since you're going into it with clear goals starting January 1.
Cathy - Oh, I absolutely adored "The Art of Racing in the Rain." That home is a beauty, especially with its Christmas decorations. I want to stand in the little cupola up top!
Allie - I hope that having that perfect buyer come along helps ease some of the pain from selling your dad's home.
Barbie - We don't have children, and I'm highly conscious of the fact that someone will have to tidy up after us once we're gone. Hopefully we'll be able to benefit from a lighter "stuff" load now, and then my siblings and/or nieces and nephew will have an easier time of it when we leave this world!
Lisa - Every now and then I get a friend request from one of my clients. I'm sure some program or other has just found my email address in their contacts and recommended me, but I just ignore those requests. There is no reason for clients and me to have any connection via Facebook, and friend-request spam is so common I rarely accept a new friend request from anybody unless they've told me it was coming.
Tracey - The little A-frame is my favorite ornament! It reminds me of our home in the mountains of New Mexico. I was lonely there, but I really miss wintertime in the mountains.
Heather - I doubt any of us are really easy to live with! I adore my husband and he has many great qualities, but helping around the house is not one of them. There are a few chores he does semi-regularly (but now as often as I'd like) and everything else I have to ask him to do. We have a lot of clearing and cleaning to get ready for hosting his parents for Christmas dinner, and I'm already aggravated because I know most of the load will be on me unless I feel like being a nag. It's important to pick my battles, and I don't feel like nagging at Christmas so I think I'm going to do what I can do and leave the rest. Fortunately, neither Philip nor his parents have strict housekeeping standards!
Carol - I still remember talking with the minister after Mom's funeral. We knew Dad would have a hard time copiing, and he said, "With great love comes great loss." Theirs was a beautiful love story, but that was a reminder to store up every moment because sooner or later one partner will spend some time alone. There's been a song on the radio about exactly that, and it makes me tear up every time.
Pip - My gosh, that hotel is gorgeous!
Michele - No, I've taken a fair number of bellydance classes in the past, but it's been a long time. I was never very good at it, but it is great exercise and if this class gets off the ground it'll be a great way to meet some other women in this town.
Karen - We've also seen Trans-Siberian Orchestra once. It was kind of like going to Mardi Gras... I'm glad I did it but I feel like once was enough.
Karen - Ooh, it's grey and overcast and lentils sound great today! Think I'll plan on green lentils and onions for dinner. So simple and perfect for a winter evening.
We went to our dear friends' tamalada yesterday and had a lovely time. I have no idea how many tamales we rolled out, but it was great fun and there were certainly some creative fillings. I didn't get any of the strawberry and nutella tamales, so I'll have to be sure and ask how those came out! I'm OK with dessert tamales, but I'm not sure those flavors combined with masa are going to work. Anyhow, it was definitely a "vacation" day so today I've got my nose to the grindstone again!
I'm going to put on some warm clothes and go work on getting the ground ready to lay a pad for my new greenhouse. I needed that thing assembled a month ago but with one thing and another, it's still in the box and the plants are still in the bathroom. Philip is home sick today so we can't start building but I can at least clear the ground and maybe go pick up a truck load of pavers.
Stay warm, y'all!

yay barbie muscle memory is an amazing thing. So glad you will be back teaching line dancing again.
Pip congrats on another happy jingle bell run. WTG
It truly is overcast, cold and gloomy here but I will take that over the snowstorms in the southeast any day. Take care everyone in it’s path.
DD is making dinner tonight so I am sitting back and relaxing before my crazy busy work week

Pip - I think you run at twice my speed. You go gurl!!!!
Managed to just sneak in at my calorie allowance today, thanks to our afternoon bonus calorie walk. Meant I burnt off 840.
Will try for a run tomorrow, depending on the weather.
I hope to tidy up the room at the top of the house, where my elder son will be sleeping. He works in a warehouse, so I don't want him to feel he's sleeping in one! My wardrobe shoe rack arrived today, so the big box of shoes and boots is emptied. Still have heavy things, like books, to shift, which may be DH's task, and I have to shift beds around. He is too large to sleep on one single, so I will put the two beds together. Hope he doesn't fall through the middle. I will put a fitted sheet across the two to anchor them!
We will also be making up the king size in the spare front room for my DSIL and her boyfriend who are arriving the day my son leaves. I have already decided we are going out to the real pizza place with them in the evening. Will book it tomorrow. I will make lunch for them and give them orange cake for tea. Must remind them to bring their free bus passes.
Katla - How lovely that you got to see your son. And you have other company. We are so busy at the moment it's a bit overwhelming, but we will be alone from Christmas Eve onwards. Not sure how I feel about that.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx2 -
Pip and Kirby, congrats on the great run. Thanks for sharing all the fun pictures. You two look awesome.1

Love the pics, Pip!
Corey and John and I are home from Mannheim Steamroller. Parts of it were very good. Parts were quite Star Trek, many parts were reminiscent of the 80s (which is when they began). All of it was entertaining.
However, it's possible that when you go to a concert and are home in time for dinner, it means you're old.
Then again, there were few young faces at that concert. Most were my age and older.
Feeling my age...
Love y'all,

Pip and Kirby great pictures and run.
Barbie you are amazing. Love the picture of you and your substitute dance teacher.

Did Body by Bethanny DVD today. It’s snowing, Hickory will be shut down for at least 3 days (ok, you gals in Canada can stop laughing now), so the plan for tomorrow is to do the last segment of the 10MS Butt Lift DVD, hold my plank, then do Patrick Godeau’s Lean Hot Body DVD.
Got up this morning, exercised, then looked out the dining room window. One of the inflatables that we have to leave running 24/7 was down but I could still see a light, so I thought that maybe it was just the weight of the snow that’s causing it to be down. So I went out and brushed the snow off and, sure enough, that is why it was down. It’s supposed to snow until around 6. Vince just said that we only need to be concerned about the snow not getting too deep where the X10 controllers are (not like I totally understand, but that’s OK)
Karen in VA – you know one of the things that surprised us about TSO is that they aren’t real real loud. One time we went to see them and we were sitting right in front of the speakers. We thought surely we’d be lambasted. But we were pleasantly surprised that when we left we could still hear. But, yes, sensory overload. You have no idea how many times Vince has commented that he wishes we’d brought out snowblower down here. He didn’t think we’d need the shovels, at least I got him to bring down that much. Now he’s grateful. The snow is very wet – good snowball fight snow. The kids are out riding their ATV’s. Not throwing snowballs. Not making snowmen.
M – Ken, who went with us, commented that what the violinist played was pretty basic. Ken just started violin lessons. But with the violinist running around so much, it would be hard for him to play something real intricate. However, the violinists in the string section (the one that they get at every city) was working real hard.
Lisa – I’m sure that when the database for the original website was set up, the guy did an excellent job. His career was web building. You should see some of the things that can be done! Now this “new directory” is a nightmare! We do the same thing with Shadow and our cats, as long as one of us is home, Shadow can come out of the bedroom on her own terms. There have been staring contests and, yes, some growling. If it’s only growling, we let them alone. We only interfere if there’s the chance that one of them can get hurt. That’s happened. She needs to learn that our cats aren’t going anywhere and our cats need to come to the realization that she’s not going anywhere. Thanks for the directions on how to make a spoiler. I’ve printed them out. Now don’t ask me to explain this. When we go out, Vince doesn’t like to leave the dryer running (understandable) or the oven on (even on low). Yet, he doesn’t seem to mind if I run the dishwasher while we’re gone. Huh????

Forgot this part:
Oh, its starting…Vince has the weather channel on and he’s in the office. That means that I’ll have to listen to it all the time. To me, what’s on the ground is on the ground. Watching the weather channel isn’t going to change anything.
Just found out that TSO cancelled their show in Greensboro.
Lenora – oh goodness, you sure have had your hands full with Louis. I hope the doc finds the root cause of your blackouts. That must be so scary

Hi Gals,
Rebecca – thanks for the “Jig” picture - I do that jig often as a small business owner!
Lanette – telling the truth about public things never seems like that much of a breach, the investigator could have just seen what was there if they had the time. Although the idea of checking first is a good one. My dad had high level government security clearance and we’d hear from neighbors and friends when they were once again checking things….
Heather – good talking to yourself! The neatness of the place, the fanciness of the food is not worth as much as a good relationship with DH – and as best I can see from the outside looking in on relationships nagging is rarely at relationship builder.
Lisa – the buns for sandwiches and with meat in them sounded so good! I ended up making a batch of buns with bacon and cheese in them – Very good.
Pictures have been great!!! Love the sand-man! As a kid the sandman was who left the sleepy-s in your eyes while you slept, but that picture have a whole new meaning to Sand-man.
So December as been crazed and it’s only the 9th, I’ve been to one funeral and have another one on this coming Saturday- My mom (last Thursday) had to have urgent surgery to replace the battery on her pace maker, my brother is doing far worse, I have seen him go down hill since Thanksgiving, I had surprise out-of-town guests this weekend (they left about noon). And there is a TON of work to do for embroidery orders prior to Christmas. My friend family is celebrating on Dec. 22-23 so I would like to have all orders done by then. And my personal gift embroidery done too.
Pip and Kirby – congrats!
Smiles

My daughter and I had a wonderful time at the holiday train. The performers were wonderful! When we go with the Grands tomorrow night I doubt we’ll be as close. We won’t want to stand for an hour waiting for it with them,

Pip: Lovely hotel room! Enjoy your run. I love Pike Place but haven’t been there in a few years. It looks like you are having a great time. WTG!
Barbie: Red is your color. You and your friend look wonderful together.
Rori: I had an amazing cat that I got for free at an auction when I was a freshman in college. She was with me for many years, but suddenly disappeared. It broke my heart. When we sold our house and were in the last stages of packing to go, the neighbor lady told me that her best friend’s husband was a cat poisoner. They lived across the street. He poisoned Peter Cat and three more before we moved.
Machka: “Them and Us”
Auntiebk: “Pay the grocer or pay the doctor, you choose.” Brilliant and absolutely correct.
Lenora: Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukah backatcha! Its good to see your post.
Pip: I love the photo of you and Kirby with Santa & the Snow Queen, & you and Kirby in front of the Christmas tree.
Heather: We were on our own last Christmas and felt sad and lonely, so this season I did some inviting. We had a great time with our niece and her son at Thanksgiving and again yesterday when we all watched the annual Christmas Ship’s Parade that goes right by our house. Both occasions really helped to lift my spirits. Then we got a surprise call from our son who is in Washington State for a short time on a business trip. We drove up to Tacoma this afternoon & had a lovely time with him. We went out to dinner, enjoyed the food and the company. After our meal we spent a little more time visiting with him at his hotel room. Then we drove all the way back home. It was well worth the time and distance.
Kim: I’m sorry about family health worries for your mom and your brother. I hope things go well for them. It sounds like your work is very busy during this season. I admire your independence. :flowerforyou:
