Getting things ready for our trip up to Son’s house for Christmas. Today is an easy day so we may go to a movie.
Happy Birthday Karen. Hope you have a great day
Margaret- I find that I am not doing as much in the cooking area. Will make peanut brittle today because my son loves it. Gave you ever had jalapeño peanut brittle? It is really good.
Be back later.

My Dad worked for a man that hosted a huge Christmas party for all of his staff every year, dinner, dance and open bar. He also bought turkeys and gave out Christmas bonuses. One year after the party the boss overheard one man complain that a 200 bonus was not enough. The bids quit doing at all after that. It was sad that the one ruined it for all.

I am going to let off some steam ...My dad is going to be 90 on January 1st. He and my mom live about 4 hours away from me and require that I drive along the Great Lakes. Generally, we do not travel to visit them at this time of the year because of my older son in the wheelchair. Getting off the road with a motorized chair and a fragile disabled person is a risk we no longer will take having driven on some of the worst road conditions imaginable in the past. Anyways, my brother lives about 8 hours from my mom and dad, but heads in from a different direction. He rarely has "lake effect" snow worries and he's rather arrogant about driving through anything. He and I are both adopted and, while we had a normal relationship growing up, I'd say we've drifted apart. With my dad turning 90, my husband and I had been discussing whether we should try to travel since this is a pretty remarkable milestone. My brother just texted to let me know that he's made reservations for my parents and his family to celebrate my dad's birthday on January 1st.. "Was I planning to visit on his birthday or after?" For some reason this just sent me fuming. It's not the first time my brother makes plans without regard for what others might want to do. He's very wealthy and really doesn't consider what I can or can't afford and my husband will not accept his charity. My family, for example, will need to stay at a hotel since he and his family always stays with my parents (there's not room for all of us). I guess I would have preferred that he text ... or how about call?... and ask if I wanted to join him and his family to celebrate OUR dad's birthday on this momentous occasion. I have to confess it took me a few minutes to politely respond that we would like to celebrate dad's birthday ... was there room for my family at his planned restaurant? He, of course, said the more the merrier ( I am sure oblivious to how his text was received) and then suggested a gift that I know I absolutely cannot afford to contribute too. So I just ranted to all of you because I do not want to have lingering grumpy feeling at this time of the year. Thanks for listening.10

Oh Beth, I feel with you.
Family have gone home. Max said he "had the best day ever in his whole life". I love how Bea has a wonderful sense of entitlement. Nothing fazes her. Edie is her usual mischievous, sensitive soul.
I made the falafels out of the mush. They are heavenly. I cooked the sausages and poached the chicken. Then I added all the extra chicken bits to the stock and blasted it. It is totally amazing.
Tomorrow we are going on the bus to my son's house and we will ALL go in their car to see Father Christmas at Preston Manor. Then we are coming back here for a feast and to open their presents as we won't see them for Christmas. I have fruit to dip in melted chocolate and sprinkles for dessert..

Sounds like everyone is busy getting ready for Christmas. Time is just flying by. I work everyday until Dec 28th. Part of working in a hospital. Christmas eve we plan to go to ODS and spend the evening with them. Then Christmas day when I get off we will go over to YDS and celebrate with them. Since the kids are older we can not get them to get along and we don't try. I have a couple gifts left to pickup and will do that when I get off this afternoon.
Weather here is in the high 40 maybe 51 today and tomorrow. But sounds like we could get some rain and snow Christmas eve.

Bright Yule to you all!
"Yule is observed on the day of the Winter Solstice. Also known as Jul, Yule predates the Christmas holiday by thousands of years. There is some debate as to the origin of the word Yule. Some linguists suggest the word is derived from “Iul”, the Anglo-Saxon word for wheel. This makes a connection to a Celtic calendar, the Wheel of the Year."

This makes me think of my dad. He had a Christmas sweatshirt he wore every year that was a picture of Snoopy with the words "Have a Cool Yule."
So, please everyone, have a cool yule!!

I am going away for a week on the 27th to my favourite little fishing village on the South West tip of Cornwall. My friend is coming too, we have booked a little apartment overlooking the sea!
Love from Karen UK
Jealous! I am a big fan of Poldark, and one reason is for Cornwall. I hope to visit one day. I love the coast line.
Enjoy!

Hello all. I'm still a little grumpy. Hubby called me out on it last night, and I kind of let him have it. He was pouty. Nothing will change, but I oddly feel better.
I have bought nothing for him for Christmas yet. And I am really stressing over it. He doesn't need anything -- he buys anything he fancies -- so whatever I get him will be something he doesn't want because if he had wanted it, he would have already bought it. Sigh. And he doesn't get it at all. "I don't understand why people think I'm so difficult to buy for." We have all given up. But I do need to find something.
Everyone else is purchased for.
Is Christmas over yet?
Felicia, maybe more than a little grumpy still

Happy birthday, Karen UK. :drinker:
My son's family is house swapping with a house in Cornwall from Boxing Day onwards. It is really near the beach. I adore Cornwall and we have friends there we house swap with. St Agnes. Also stay in a friend's chapel near Bodmin. It's even better out of season.

Beth ~ I think you should let your brother know that it is too dangerous a time of year to be driving to your Dad's with your disabled son and that the gift HE has chosen is just to expensive. Let your Dad know that you will visit when the weather is better and that y'all will celebrate his birthday again at that time. JMHO!

Been in cleaning, decluttering mode... we bought some custom-made barstools, as we wanted oak, and we wanted them to have arms. So we got them in yesterday... and when we put them in the dining area, I realized there were just too many pieces of furniture in that room. And... I needed a table to paint on... but my office needed to be rearranged in order to put it in there. So, with my son's help, everything is now rearranged, and exactly like I want it.
For now.
And, in the process, I ended up cleaning both rooms. And, laundry's in the dryer, and dinner's in the slow cooker... and it's been a lovely, domestic day.
I know I'd be crazy inside of a few months, but oh, it's lovely just to have TIME.
Oh, and when I talked to Corey at lunch, they're giving him a raise starting January 1. Well-deserved, I might add, and proud of him and proud of them that they're doing it. This is his third raise since he started the job!
Love y'all,

Home , and sitting and relaxing.. will go see the movie tonight, and maybe enjoy a small cocktail... I can't really relax until after work tomorrow then 3 days off0

lisa your smile in those pics say it all. Enjoy your time off, have fun moving things around in your new place.
Beth. Visiting when it’s safe to travel is more important than celebrating on a specific date. Seems like your brother isn’t thinking about others IMO ((<3 ))
Phew I am officially done teaching jingle bells for another year, aaahhhh joy.
Kelly checking in, hope all is well.
