Sorry pages and pages behind... if anyone asked me any questions the answer is probably 42.10
-
I’ve been slack in posting my runs but did the park run last Saturday & struggled. Many walk breaks & I stupidly didn’t take water ‘because it’s only 5k’. I sweat a ridiculous amount and felt a bit pukey halfway through hence walking a bit.
Annoyingly my run/walk time was better than the complete run (bar one incline) time a few weeks ago.
Anyhoo final tally was 52/50km which I’m thrilled with because summer runs are a struggle & the heat waves are crazy.
I’ve enjoyed everyone’s posts & in awe of what you all do. Well done everyone especially the crazy snow runners! 🏃🏼♀️👍😀11 -
So most of you guys are in a cold snap, and here in NZ we have caught Australia's heatwave - thanks @orphia! It was 19 degrees this morning (around 66F) at 5:30am, and due to get up to around 90-95F this afternoon. So I'm really REALLY glad I went out early. but that's warm, and I really notice the difference running in that warmth. I definitely prefer running in the cooler around 10 degree (50F) temps.
But yay I went out. I've been torturing myself with dreadmill runs but I can get to about 3km before I get really bored. Though the treadmill has to be off cause my heart rate and just how I felt I was not going at that pace at all.
This morning I was hoping to do about 8k so that I could close out the month on 100k, but after about 6 I had had enough, and decided to cut it there. So unless I do 8.8k tomorrow (not likely) I'm going to be just short. And I'm not worried. Given that for the 6 weeks prior to the new year I was sporadic at best for running, getting up to over 90k in a month again is a pretty awesome achievement.
@Avidkeo please take all the heat we don’t want it 🥵. Back up to 37c on Saturday ☹️. I’ll skip the park run & go out super early to the bike path. Stay cool!3 -

Today I ran a quick 22.2 miles at lunch. That will be my last run for January so I'm ending the month at 88.12 miles which surpasses my 75 mile goal. I'll be running a half marathon on Saturday so I want to be fresh for it. Hopefully the weather will be nice. The forecast is looking good. This will be my second half and my goal for this race is to beat my previous HM time and I'm feeling pretty good about it. The run today was nice. I almost waited until after work since the weather should be the same as it is forecast for Saturday morning, but Wednesday's are busy days for me so I went ahead and ran at lunch. I was just glad that my "kind of chilly" is nothing like the cold weather some of you are facing. I honestly don't think I would leave the house if it was that cold.
I did wear interesting socks today. I usually wear plain solids, but I got these one time when I donated blood, so I thought I would share.

Did you just run a marathon as LAPS in the BASEMENT? Crazy is right, go you!0 -
@Elise4270 I wear socks ya, but boring ones. I did have a pair of Winnie the Pooh ones, but they've somehow gotten themselves lost. Or eaten.
@shanaber I'm still around...just haven't been posting regular updates here, that's all.Today I ran a quick 22.2 miles at lunch.
Eight miles this morning: 2 miles to warm up, and then three sets of 1 mile at 5K pace, and 1 mile of easy. I'm over half way through week 2 of taper now, and this run marks the last fast run of training...from here on til race day, it's easy running with a few miles here and there at marathon pace.

Can you explain "crazy laps in the basement"? How far is a lap? I'm also trying to comprehend what you did for 27.11 miles today!0 -
Did @AlphaHowls really run 27 miles in her basement? Did @kgirlhart really run a "quick" 22 miles on her lunch break? I know @7lenny7 really ran at a windchill of -57 F. It's crazy town in here.
I took my rest day and I certainly appreciated not running at -20 F wind chills and not even going out one more time in it at all. The dog went to day care today so it also saved me a walk. I got a lot done on my work project, thank goodness, after a rather sleepless night thinking about it - including writing out a few paragraphs at about 4 am (and they turned out to be not bad ones either, even in the light of day).
No strength training or pull-up practice today either, but a little yoga. Just one day left of that 30-day challenge.
Stay warm and safe everyone in the polar vortex. And stay cool and safe those of you down under in the heat. Maybe we could meet in the middle somewhere?10 -
2.5 miles on the treadmill today. I was supposed to do 1/4 mile repeats but wasn't really feeling it, so I did a few 1 minute sprints instead. I was pretty pleased myself for managing to run on the treadmill at a 10 min/mi pace without tripping or being flung off the back. Lol. It's the little things in life, really...
Also officially signed up for my first 5k of the year, a week from Saturday! I'm curious to see how much/if my time has improved since my last 5k in the fall.
51.5/45.0 miles for January so far12 -
No run today... it is 36F (almost 0C) in my kitchen. Found a big hole behind the dishwasher so trying to get that plugged. Oh and by big, I mean I could crawl through it...10

Hah, it's like a game of two truths and a lie typo. I live close enough to Lenny that I can confirm that's no typo!7 -
I am becoming a weather wimp, and not just in comparison to @7lenny7 running in Minnesota.
This morning, it would have been physically possible for me to go out running when it was 9° F (-13°C) with 10-12 mph wind. I had 12 miles penciled in. I considered chopping it back to 4 or 5. But . . . the major task for today was to get all the laundry done and pack. I get on a plane at 6 AM tomorrow, when the forecast calls for 1° F with 19 mph wind. I will go from my heated house to my sheltered garage, get in my car, drive to the airport, and have to get from my car to the terminal in this weather. Then I fly off to Tallahassee, where I anticipate hearing the natives gripe about temperatures in the 40s F. I come back Sunday, after the really cold weather is supposed to be past.
My rationalization this morning was that if I went out and ran in the weather, the amount of post-run self care I'd need would interfere with preparation to travel. Maybe so, maybe it's all in my head. I could have spared the time to run in the afternoon . . . except the temperature had dropped a few degrees (3° F when I shoveled the driveway at 3 PM) and the wind had gone up to the mid-20s mph. I wimped out on even driving to the fitness center; didn't even check online whether it had closed.
So . . . I might or might not get a run in tomorrow after I get to Tallahassee. I'll get a shortish run in Friday as a course preview, and Saturday I'll run 8K of cross country. It remains to be seen whether I can work a run in Sunday morning before I have to check out of the hotel; I have lots and lots of time before my flight leaves, but I don't want to run and not have a shower before getting on the plane.
If I don't get a run in tomorrow, my January total is 208.43 miles. If I do, it will go up by less than 10 miles. And I kind of wish I had a crystal ball that would have told me to spend the money, leave a day earlier, pay for another day in the hotel, and do more Florida running.13 -

I was thinking the exact same thing! Else everyone has frozen fingers and are having a hard time typing But HUGE props to you all!! Much respect.
Kinda makes my 50F and 13mph wind seem like a mid summer day.
So 6.2 miles this evening. I guess you would call this a tempo run. Really just did about a 0.2 mile fartlek at roughly the start of each mile. The rest felt just comfortably hard. But it was good to see my stride length increase over 1.05 meters for a change.
Not a bad monthly total with a 2 week taper.7 -
I rounded out the month with a swim this morning - a much more suitable activity given the weather. The girls' aunt came with us and she played with them while I did 34 laps of a 60m pool, which equals a smidge over 2km, my longest swim ever.
Sunshine, blue skies, salt water. Ultimate summer bliss.

Well, kgirlhart did not run 22.2 miles today. That was definitely a typo. The other two are probably right though.8

@rheddmobile
@Scott6255

@polskagirl01
Not kidding, would not lie. Yes, I ran 27.11 miles in my basement. I call it crazy laps, when I just do not want to go outside. It took me 4:45:03 (time). I do not really do anything. I listen to my music and travel through my mind (making sure not to hit furniture along the way). The stairwell comes down the center of the basement, so I can essentially just 'lap' round and round (maybe about 25 steps?)
I was fretted this morning at being so close to 500 miles, then work called and cancelled, so I just kept running...now I am within 10, so in the morning, I will get it!polskagirl01 wrote: »AlphaHowls wrote: »1/30 27.11 miles, 275 days on the run, arctic/frigid air, crazy laps (cold and work canceled = crazy laps in the basement.)

For some reason, I cannot select the 'edit' button. Wanted to say....I am pretty much easily entertained in my own head, hence 'crazy'. Running soothes the wolf inside (mental health). I just want to run and run and run...6
