Did the Orangetheory class today that I missed on Tuesday to round off the week. I’ve never done more than 4 consecutive days of running before and this takes me up to six, as life meant I’ve had to swap a couple of sessions and miss a double-workout day. I won’t be making a habit of this, not only because my body needs a rest, but mainly because I can’t be bothered washing my hair this often! What a faff.

This made me laugh because I do the same thing. My running schedule is partially designed around washing my hair! Don’t need or want to wash it every day, but I have to after running more than a couple miles because I sweat so much. It’s also one of the reasons that my Sunday or Monday run is short and easy. Don’t want to wash my hair 2 days in a row. I just don’t have it in me to style my hair every. Single. Day.

Yesterday, I had a pretty decent run! I felt good, and I pushed myself a little more than I usually do. My only battle was with my stupid earbud, kept sliding out & shifting. Ended up letting it hang down a good part. SO need to get a better headphone/set!

ETA we’ll keep you accountable on the pull up. In solidarity I’ll plank or do “sally” push ups. (Push ups to Moby’s Flower- bring sally up). I won’t leave you “hangin’”

@Elise4270 The Sally pushup challenge looks nuts. I might try it in the privacy of my home, but will never say anything about it in front of my climbing coach as this seems like the kind of torture he would love to inflict on a regular basis!

@martaindale I have definitely planned my plans around my hair washing in the past! I’ve given up now and just don’t bother to style it most days, but it’s a consideration in all my planning. I’d love to cut my hair short for this reason, but running already controls everything else, maybe cutting my hair off for running is a bit extreme

@katharmonic - OMG, Stella looks adorable in her gear! My Stella will "tolerate" a coat, although she runs away when I get it and only finally comes over reluctantly to get it on because she knows it will come with a walk. Pretty sure she would never go for the boots. Your Stella looks like she is ready to go!

I had to get up around 6 to get my 16 miles in yesterday because my hubby and I were driving to Indy for the day to order our new camper. I was not happy about the early start time as temps were in the low 20s and it was windy, but once I got out there, I appreciated the solitude of an early Saturday morning before the sun comes out. I had no preplanned route because I know the segments in the area well enough that I can usually just wing it. But when I got to the bike trail around mile 11, it had lots of standing solid ice, so I opted to take the road route around it. This wound up adding some extra distance to my run and I finished about a mile from my house, right at the base of a hill. Since I hit my distance, I stopped my watch and decided to walk the rest of the way because I was pretty tired. But after about 6 minutes of walking, I was cold and just wanted to be home, so I turned it back on and ran home. Yesterday ended up being 16.9 miles.

Snow flurries and high teens F today, courtesy of an Alberta Clipper that left about three inches of fresh snow behind. Some good footing and some not so good footing. I think those Sally pushups are for the under 60 crowd...

I'm curing 10 pounds of pork belly today. Asian on the left, pepper maple on the right. I'll smoke it next weekend. I haven't decided what kind of wood yet. I may smoke some cheese while I'm at it.

Running related? Of course! This will be my fuel for my long runs and races.

My first run in 10 days this morning. I originally intended to just walk the dogs for a mile, as I'm still coughing. Once we were out there, I decided to double that, and after half a mile thought, "Maybe I can run today". I was overdressed for it and had my old running shoes on, but it was worth a try. I could walk if I had to.

I didn't have to. There is nothing like a cold to keep you honest about running easy though! Still, I felt great, so I took the longer route - and doubled that! Altogether, we ran about 3.4 miles. My longest distance in years. I know I won't make my goal for the month, yet again, but right now I don't care.

Kody and I went out for 6 miles of paved trail yesterday but ended up with over 10 miles, 2.5 of which were on trail...honest to God TRAIL! With no other traffic on the trail I released Kody from heeling and I be he ran 12 or more miles.

The weather was awesome. 5F/-15C air temp with a -6F/-21C wind chill and a light snow falling. This may now be my favorite running temperature. I had my run clothes dialed in perfectly and didn't sweat very much at all. Regular trail sock, regular road shoes, medium tights, thin poly base layer, mid-weight layer, and a thin wind layer. Gloves, beanie, and a buff around my neck.

On the way to the trail, we hit some really slick roads on the highway and I saw an accident three cars in front of me when the van in my lane suddenly lost control and darted out into the next lane, hitting a car pretty forcefully. No one appeared to be hurt (bumper to bumper) and I kept going around them. I thought about going home to run but I was close to the trail so continued.

My plan called for 6 because I wanted to save my 10 mile long run for today because we have snowstorm in the forecast for tonight and running in snow is heaven. We hit a relatively new paved trail along the river for our run, but I screwed up...I thought it was a 4 mile out & back but it was actually 4 miles one way. I know I wouldn't want to just hit part of it so I decided we'd hit it all and get 8 in. At the end of that 4 miles I discovered there was unpaved trail beyond that. It was flat as could be, but it was trail nonetheless, so I HAD to keep going, right?

Oh my....first trail in 98 days. All the old feelings came back our souls were renewed. Heaven. Simply heaven. Thank you, God, for that.

The first 4 miles of the trail went along the Minnesota River and along the road leading to the local power plant. In fact it went right through the power plant property. I was surprised they agreed to this. The trail ended at a boat landing where you could continue on the east side of the river on an unpaved trail, or cross the river to an unpaved trail.

At the point I hit the unpaved section, I was re energized and felt I could run all day. Common sense told me that I might regret doing so, so I ran an bit past the 5 mile mark and turn around.

On the return, I noticed that the land around the trail was very similar to some of the land we pheasant hunt on so I told Kody to "Hunt 'em up! Find a bird!" and he went into hunting mode, quartering back and forth and even finding several mouse nests, but alas, no birds, not that I expected any.

After we got home, we ate then settled in for some down time.

Tonight we have 9 to 12 inches of snow forecast. I'm just waiting for it to start before we hit the trail again.

My time sucked (5 hours 18 minutes). It was SO hot and humid! I guess Miami is know for that. 😂

Anyway, my everything hurts and I am exhausted from catching the 4am shuttle bus. Race report later.

Morning all. Its Monday today and a public holiday here which means no work! I slept in a bit, strapped on my shoes and immediately noticed pain in the outside of my rt ankle. I continued my warm up and started my run, but half a km in the pain was just getting worse. So I stopped. Walked home with a slight limp and googled. Looks like peroneal ligament? I know someone else gets this. What's the solution? New shoes (that's usually the answer haha). I've massaged it which seems to have helped and will rest it today. Could it be from a lot of barefoot walking? I have relatively flat feet.

Long run for Sunday Runday! I had a wave workout scheduled for Tuesday, but Tuesday looks gross and rainy and cold, so I moved it to today. I did 2 miles to warm up, then 3 sets of 1/2 mile HM pace, 1/2 marathon pace, 1/2 mile HMP, 1/2 mile MP, 1/2 mile easy. That came out to 7.5 miles. Then I did 2.5 miles easy to cool down. The workout went really, really well. I wanted to do 7:15-7:30 pace for the HMP and 7:45-8:00 for the MP, and I ended up pacing more like 7:05-7:15 for HMP and 7:40-7:50 for MP. Really pleased with how easily I dialed into the different paces and switched between them. I haven't done this kind of workout in quite a while, or a workout this long, and I ended up having a blast!

I was a little worried to start because I hit my shin really hard when I tripped on a heavy wooden stool at work yesterday and I scraped it up through a layer of jeans and a compression sock. When I started running it was a bit tender but only because my leggings were rubbing on it, I think. I could put pressure on it, and I don't think it altered my gait much, if at all. I iced it when I got home, feels ok still. Not going to worry about it too much.
