Lanette ... that sounds like a wonderful way to prepare delicata squash!
Karen (prisoner2food) ... hang in there!!
We finally got a snow storm here near Buffalo. Not nearly as bad as some in the past ... about a foot of snow with drifts much higher. Husband and I got up early as we usually meet the pastor for prayer at 8:00. We cleared the vehicles, didn't bother to blow out the driveway (just barreled through it with the truck), and got to the church by 7:55 ... to find out they cancelled church services because cold winds are coming in?? I guess the pastor had emailed my husband at 7:38 but we were out in the driveway at that time. So back home with my coffee and waiting for a livestream message from the pastor at 10:00. Wimpy generation.
Good news today ... I'm down 2.5 pounds for the week for a total loss of 7.5 pounds since the start of the new year. The 19:5 fasting schedule is a good tool for me so far. There's a rhythm to it and I've found that regardless of when I open my window to eat, it needs to be closed by 7:00. My complexion is constantly pink, which people have noticed. My husband, who has no idea that I'm IF, said my face looked thinner. I'm wearing a pair of jeans that were a tad uncomfortable at the waist before the holidays. So I'll march on with this for a while. I've scheduled to meet with my doctor in April, after 3 months, to look at labs and make certain that this is a healthy option for me. I have also been journalling ... something I rarely do ... making this a "Study of One."
Hoping NY Karen made it home safely.

Beth, IF wouldn't work for me because I get dizzy if I don't eat every few hours but I'm glad it's working for you. It's another example of "the best eating plan is the one you'll stick to". I, too, am surprised when I show up somewhere and find that it's been cancelled because of bad weather.
Heather, I'm sorry to hear that your difficult friend continues to be difficult. When I tell someone that I'm not available, I don't like to be argued with about it. Hope you and DH feel better soon.
The dogs and I are up on time and have walked for 30 minutes, then eaten our breakfast, and are eager to go on our after breakfast walk with our friend. We are enjoying the slightly more daylight each morning.

Hello all! I tried to post a couple of times in the past couple days and I just erased it because I felt it was too long and I was talking too much about the new daycare family! SO...suffice it to say, the past two days with the new family have gone WONDERFULLY! I went from two/three meltdowns on the first day, to one on Friday, then none yesterday! We came close yesterday, but were able to calm him before things got out of control! He actually even sat down and ate meals with us Friday and Saturday, too. Hurray! Thank you for all of your kind words and concerns! I am so glad it has worked out and I don't have to make tough choices in regards to caring for him. Friday we went on another night hike and explored the beach in winter. Found lots of driftwood. Yesterday I got the sleds and snowboards out and the boys had a ball sledding/boarding on the slope behind my house. They had hot cocoa and granola bars for post sledding snack at 6:30pm, so we ate dinner at 8:00. (They did, I ate my dinner while they had hot cocoa.) SO...today is just Trentin. I need to make a ham and prep some fresh fruits and veggies for tomorrow's Mid Winter Luau!
My yogurt that I started yesterday, didn't solidify. This is the second time it has happened to me. Is it because I have added the culture when the milk is still too hot? Is the liquid "yogurt" still good to use? Do any of you use your batches that don't turn out?
I can't remember who asked; Machka maybe? I have children in my house from 6:30am-11:30pm about five days a week; then Trentin on every other weekend from 11:30-11:30 and the new boys every Saturday from 4:00pm-11:30pm. I usually have two weekday evenings child free (usually Tuesday and Thursday).
Machka- Love your beautiful vacation photos and your marathon video is fantastic. You must be good at hiding pain, because you look like powerful woman running that last leg of the race! Hope you feel better soon in regards to your root canal.
Janet- Olivia is adorable! She has really grown in the past few years!
Karen VA- Love, LoVe, LOVE the work you are doing with your grandson! That is a great essay that he wrote! I always looked at things like that as a way to get my kids debating. It is good to learn to argue your point of view in a articulate and healthy way.
Heather- So sorry you and DH are dealing with colds/flu! I think those are the worst part of the "winter" season. Hope you feel better soon! I would hope your friends would understand you not being able to get together with them at this time. lol well, maybe all understand except the "one" pampered friend. I love your view on your run!
Rita- Love your photos and hearing of your adventures as you tend to your park duties! Little green men and skeleton cowboys; just what I think New Mexico would be like!
Beth- our produce box looks great! I got a giggle from your "sunday morning snow excursion". I often think the same about this generation. I really think the advances in technology (weather predictions and social media) has given everyone the excuse to stay inside.
Going to wave hello and send warm thoughts, hugs, etc to the rest of you! I have gone back about five pages to glean for things my brain has forgotten, that is about all I can handle this morning! lol ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)6 -

En route to visit DED and her boys. New iPhone is super fast, a big improvement. Already did HIIT and lower body workout to get ahead.
Heather: Love your seafront. Having somewhere like that to walk makes all the difference. Hope hubby gets better soon and you keep it at bay. Totally understand your wish to stay home. Some people don’t know how to take ‘no’ for an answer.
KJ: You have the magic touch with kids. They are so lucky to have you in their lives.
Karen VA: Great way to get your grandson to do his work. He’s learning and doesn’t know it yet. He deserved the reprieve.
Well we’re nearly there so will sign off.

beth we made it home before the storm! We had a very quick goodbye at the front of Rachel’s new apt just a block from the Capitol Building. The overnight storm has left us with mostly ice and the temps are dropping severely so I’m staying in for the next two days!!
kJ take the temp of the milk after it reaches 180, it has to drop down to lower than 110 Fahrenheit. The not set yogurt is essentially kefir and is drinkable, don’t throw it out. Also make sure the live culture from old yogurt you use is room temperature before adding it to the milk. Hope these tips work, the temps are super important to the process in the instant pot. I’ve actually just started my weekly batch.
Home bound weekend will help the two of us get paperwork cleared up and decluttering projects finished.
Stay warm and cozy everyone. NYKAREN

Cold here too, 18 degrees, and I have daffodils trying to bloom. I suppose those just popping through the soil will be okay, but not too hopeful for those that were already forming buds.
Staying in today and watching football championship games

Yes! My plan at 3:00 is to camp out on the couch under a blanket and have football on the TV. I usually have a book or crossword puzzle with me to occupy me during commercials/maybe more I love football but everything takes sooooo long!2 -
Kelly ... you continue to amaze me. So very glad you are able to work with this boy with very special and trying needs. What a blessing you are to his family!2

Heather: Your photos of Brighton make me want to visit there. The chances of me actually doing that are nil—DH will never fly again and I am not brave enough to go on my own. :ohwell: I hope your DH starts feeling better soon.
Michele: My class reunion was a couple of years ago and we went to the informal icebreaker. We skipped the fancy dinner the next day. I saw four or five people I knew personally and a few class “stars” who were in the popular crowd. The graduating class was over 600, I think it was 720 or so. Several people I wanted to see were not there, and a few had already passed away. It motivated me to track down my best friend from Junior High through HS and we met for lunch a month or so after the reunion. She has had some horrible tragedies since then. Her personal health had her in a nursing home for a while and then her daughter was killed in a car accident. I sent heartfelt condolence messages but haven’t talked to her in person since then. My husband’s 50th reunion was totally different. His graduating class was around 100 or so and many of them came to the reunion. It was lovely. I would encourage you to go if you have a few close friends you’d like to see again.
Lisa in AR: I hope you feel better soon! :flowerforyou:
Lanette: I agree with you and Charlie Brown. Having dogs around has made this a better world.
Beth: I’m glad the intermittent fasting is working for you. :flowerforyou:
We’re having a gray morning. It is 42 degrees and drizzly. Being inside and dry is nice and feels cozy. I haven't been to the stable in a couple of weeks due to low energy. I hope I'll feel more energetic in the coming week.

Thank you my friends. I know I am doing the right thing, but these are very old friends from school and we have been getting together twice a year for quite a while now. The strange thing is we are getting together in York (a very long distance for me) in April for my Portsmouth friend's 70th birthday/flatwarming. I will be up there for two nights. It is not actually her birthday, plus we already 'warmed' her flat last year. I consider this to be a big effort on my part and I don't even want to go to that, but I am, simply for my dear Portsmouth friend. For some reason they (especially the difficult friend) don't consider that time, at considerable expense, a proper spring "jaunt" because a lot of other people are also invited and my Portsmouth friend will be busy some of the time with them. I see my Portsmouth friend at least once a month anyway. In fact I am having lunch with her next week.
The other friend, who lives in Glasgow, I will invite down for a summer visit with her husband. DH finds them ok. The 'difficult friend' just doesn't get the hint that I can only stomach her in small doses. She is now asking me what hotel I am staying at. I haven't replied. If it wasn't for the others I would be happy not to see her again. It's not only personal, I have moral objections to the financial dealings of her and her 'husband'. But she is vulnerable and clearly adores me. She is a good teacher for me in learning tolerance and compassion. I can be the bigger person.
I was going to cook a lovely lamb and bean stew today and went out specially on the bus to buy tins of flageolet, but DH really isn't up to it. I'm going to make him scrambled eggs on toast instead. Silly to waste good food. He seems to have gone downhill today. Very weak. Coughing. Can't breathe properly. Can't sleep. Very fed up. I am happy to have lentils and wholesome rice. My favourite food with yoghurt and hot pickle. Chopped salad. Yum! I will cook some broccoli for him and me.
KJ - That has happened to me once and I just stirred a new starter tablespoon of yoghurt into it and warmed it up again to incubating temp. Came out great! Or you could use it in cooking dough or scones (biscuits). Or marinating meat esp chicken.
Lanette - He's had the pneumonia jab. I think this bug is one of those viruses that antibiotics don't work for. It has laid low a lot of local people including my son, but my DH does not have age on his side. I think it's just the luck of the draw whether your body's immune response has met this bug before and can marshall a response quickly. Two years ago I had a dreadful cough that went on for three months and he was over his in a month. He says he has never had anything like it before.
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx

Almost 6 months at this park and still loving it! So many different people and strange things come through here. Makes it interesting!
I have a new doc who is all into healthy eating as the root of most of our health problems. I like this as I’ve always believed this.
So since December 12, I have been avoiding sugar and keeping my net carbs around 50 grams. Following a high fat low carb regime (HFLC). I’ve lost 10 pounds so far with a calorie goal of 1800! Not hungry and able to add IF at 8/16 with no hunger. So this is my plan for the year and beyond. Eat this way all the time, ignore calories, and the weight will come off and stay off until I get to my natural goal weight.

Next year I will not buy a Christmas cake!! Just had a piece (small) but the calories in it - no wonder I can't lose weight, my food choices lately are not the best, not sure why, but I can't seem to stop snacking.
Heather it's my friends 70th birthday in May and she is planning a trip, Dublin has been mentioned, but my passport has lapsed so I said I wouldn't be able to go. With all the Brexit uncertainty, she has decided to stay in England thank goodness. Liverpool has been mentioned so we might go there, I am looking forward to it (wherever we end up), think we'll stay overnight and travel back the next afternoon/early evening.
I hope you enjoy your stay in York, it is a lovely city. Where are you staying, I think the Hotels are quite expensive to be honest. It has been busy over Christmas, but usually goes quiet until Easter when the tourists start up again.
