Have a beautiful day, everyone!1

Hello all, I am new to this but really have enjoyed reading all the posts. I live in Minnesota and this year has really been tough for exercising. So much snow. When we have had a break I love to snowshoe but it is very sporadic. It becomes so easy to just hit the couch once I get home from work. I am hoping to get more motivated by reading some of your ideas.
Thank you and have a great afternoon!!

Hi everyone! So enjoying reading all of your posts! Still catching up. Ordered the Strong Women Stay Young book last night. Look forward to having a new read while we are buried in snow here in Missouri. Have a great rest of the day wherever u r!6

Heather exquisite!

Barbara ... we do not plan to allow this last gas bill to be factored into our balanced billing. With our explanation and historical use records, they should be able to come up with a reasonable payment amount. "Should be" ... of course ... is the operative phrase.
Pip ... get well soon! The flu is a serious illness!
Fanncy (Mary) ... it's been a while since I've made a concerted effort to exercise and I've been eye-ing my dusty kettle bell. Today I picked it up and had to laugh at your Day1/Day2 comments on my instruction sheet ... "you have exercised 13 minutes and probably don't even feel like you've exercised." Umm. My quads know I've been squatting ... and modified at that!
Allie ... Mary offered good advice about the estate owing you! Hoping you're having a better day today.
Like Allie, I refuse to give up on a program that has been working for me, even when the scale is being fickle. And while the scale was up 3 pounds yesterday ... it was down 2 today. It eventually works out.

only ate 262cal (breakfast) added 750 or so to allow me to complete the day. no workout. kirby says i have symptoms of the flu not a cold. had the sweats and shakes and felt like i was going to faint. he had to help me upstairs to bed, couldn't eat
Sounds like we've got the same thing!
Any back or kidney pain?
I wonder if someone from your part of the world travelled here.
EDIT: Just talked to some of my coworkers, and found that whatever I've got is going around ... it's a "back to school" flu. The kids all went back to school at the beginning of Feb and now it's spreading.
Sore throat
Headache - really intense!
Body/joint aches
Back/kidney pain
Extreme fatigue
Some nausea, dizziness & feeling faint

Boohoo, missing my son. This helped me.💗

After exercise laid out in the sun then we went to Daytona to meet my cousin Had lunch with my cousin. Had this vegetarian quinoa salad. It was pretty good. Just water to drink.
We’re supposed to go to a friend of our’s house Friday. I know he wants me to have some wine. Honestly, I’d prefer not, but I know me, and I’ll have a little just to make him happy.
Felicia – I’m glad your son understands his father. It would be terrible if he didn’t
Laurel – welcome

Before exercise, went to Publix and got a paper and returned some food ...
I've never even thought about returning food. Do they take it back? Is it in cans or packages so they can see it wasn't tampered with?
I'm sure I wouldn't be able to return produce or anything like that.

m - stores will take food back as long as it isn't opened. I don't think they resell it if it's gone out of the store, but they do take it back.

Barbara – MOH is Maid of Honour. In this case, she should be a Matron, but the girls think that sounds to old. LOL Do you burn wood yourself or sell it? I miss the heat of a wood stove, but not all of the work that goes into it.
Machka – I think I would feel the same in your situation last year, if anyone wanted to come visit it would make me feel I needed to entertain. I would allow my MIL or best friend as I know they would help take care of me and not have any expectations. They have both been my biggest supporters as members of my family have passed away, more so than anyone else.
Katla - If the plumber finds the issue to be the City will they reimburse you the cost of the plumber? That seems backwards to me that they won't look first, but it's government and most of it doesn't make sense to me.
Barbie – What a shame to lose one of your new walking aids so quickly.
Margaret - We have had more snow in February than we have had all winter. It's strange, I remember hearing growing up “it's too cold to snow”, well this month has also been the longest running cold spell since January 1998. They counted any day that the temperature dipped below -20 Celsius. I think we made it 15 days, it warmed up yesterday, but dropped again today.
Pip – I hope you feel better soon.
Sharon – I envy you the fresh well water. I grew up with that and miss it terribly. I buy water as I can't stand the taste of City water. I was spoiled I guess.
Felicia – I would be miffed too. There is depression and illness, but that is still not an excuse to be rude. My husband suffered in the winters from 2006 to 2018 with depression, he refused to believe me. Finally last year I told him I couldn't do it anymore, I told him I had lost respect for him and that I wanted a divorce. I was sorry that he was hurting and I believed he was sick, but since he refused to get help or do anything to help I couldn't continue. He never saw a doctor, but he started doing things again and participating in daily living and conversation. So far, this year he has seemed to do well and thankfully we are both much happier.
Heather – What a beautiful wood carving, thank you for sharing. I am partial to anything wood related. Sorry it wasn't the day you were expecting.
Rebecca – Hugs, I would miss my children terribly if they were so far away.
Allie - I hope you can heed some of the advice given and put in a claim against your Dad's estate.
Today I took my daughter to run errands as her husband's car is broken down so he needed to take hers to work. It was a good day, walked 2.5 kms in and out of stores. Tonight I used my Amazon Prime to order a Garmin fit tracker for her. She is quite excited to get it and see how many steps she puts in at work in a day.
Tomorrow I am going downtown to be a perm model for Kaitlyn, I have decided that I will go to Lauryn's in the morning and she can drive me to the train, she will then have my car to take Jonah to school as it's supposed to be in the -20's again. This will give me quite a few steps as well.
She asked me if I could print off a permission slip for him for school tomorrow, she wasn't sure why she needed to have it because the activity is on school property. I read the activity when she sent it to me to print and the students are building a motorized car. I remember permission slips being one or two sentences. This one is 5 pages long! I guess too many complaints have made this necessary. Seems a little over the top to me, they have an online system for parents to get information and to be able to find the permission slips to print, surely they could save some trees and come up with an electronic way for parents to sign too.
Well I should go try to walk off some KFC that Lauryn bought us for supper.
Good Night all,

Michele who is off to bed
I wonder what the store does with it then.
When I'm travelling and happen to have food left over, I usually leave it with the owner/manager of the place I'm staying or drop it into a food donation collection bin at a local grocery. Maybe that's what the store does with it too. I just checked and apparently we can return food to our grocery ... I've just never thought of doing that. But then, I rarely return anything.

5 miles of walking once we landed in Genoa yesterday afternoon. Lots of alleyways and a gritty/grubby feel where we went walking. We’re surrounded university students and locals. We don’t exactly blend in but that’s ok. My DH was challenged when he discovered the tv in our room only has Italian channels-no English—the horror The good news is he is taking it in stride—could it be that he can watch soccer in any language and soccer, aka football is the only thing on tv?? Yes
Today’s itinerary, a palace, a coastline walk and focaccia.
Ciao, NYKAREN-Italia6 -
Genoa at night. Pesto with green beans and potatoes, delicious and just the right portion size. We waited in line at this restaurant—packed with locals and tourists.3

Goal: Get some exercise in February.
I've been diagnosed with greater trochanteric pain syndrome in my right hip and right lumbar facet joint inflammation in my back. Plus I've got the flu right now.
Hence ... running behind on the goals and going back to the basics.

NYKAREN - I've always wanted to go to Genoa (Genova) since I saw a film starring Colin Firth, called Genova, (or A Summer in Genoa). Worth a look and exactly as you describe with the little grubby alleyways etc. 2008. Love homemade pesto.
My friend who went on the cruise is ringing me today to have a chat about her holiday. She posted a video of her walk around the deck which almost made me cry. The ship is now on its last ever trip, down to Africa, and then it will be sold.
Reading a good book called ENUFF.

Feeling frustrated. Last week, we students got an email telling us that we need to choose our tutorials next Tuesday (26th). On a whim, I went into my university email today. Lo and behold, the tutorials were opened this morning!!! I could not log into the tutorial choosing system until I got home this evening, and now all the tutorials are full.
They say they will open more, but ... all the good tutorials, the ones I hoped to get into are full. I don't know what that will leave me. AND I can't log in when I'm at work, so again, I'll have to wait until I get home. <<sigh>>
Well ... I'd better start tackling that list ...

well I am up and having my tea... my granddaughter sleeping next to me, trying to keep Alfie from pouncing on her and waking her up is a chore... Dave finished painting yesterday.. he has to wait until I get the light fixtures up to paint the ceiling, it really brightens up the place and its all is one color, I had 4 different colors in the room and the hallway..
the kids have a 2 hour delay so I don't drop her off until 10:15 will stop and get the boys out and then take her to school.. Dave is going to do one more coat over the cabinets..and that will be it for now..
have errands to run later..2 -
Allie - I'm glad you like your paint, and hope your days are going better.
Machka - I'm watching my son dealing with college registrations over the phone and electronically, with a two-hour time difference, as the school is on the west coast. Made me think of you. I've put my master's degree ambitions to the side until we get our finances where we want them, I'll just live the frustrations vicariously through you.
To all dealing with husbands who are driving them nuts - My best friend for the last 35 years is on the phone with me nearly every other day now, and is in the same space. They built a massive shop for her husband, and installed a quite expensive furnace in the shop last fall, when he retired. He was looking forward to spending lots of time out there this winter (they live in Montana), and she was looking forward to getting him out of the house, as she works mostly at home. She said he's gone out there twice or three times at most since October, and he basically just sits in the house and plays video games. She is mentioning divorce more and more often, as she sees at least seven more years of work stretching out in front of her (he's ten years older than her) in order to get their house paid off before she retires, and feels horribly resentful and pressured to keep working. I don't have any advice for her, I genuinely don't know what to tell her, except to keep talking to him, and keep telling him how she feels.
Sat through a two-hour meeting yesterday, then physical therapy at home after. Could have been worse. On my own for my two PT sessions today, and am pleased to still see progress, as getting in and out of chairs and walking gets easier every day. My stamina is shot to smithereens, but I know it's out there, I just have to reach for it.
I keep reminding myself it's only been two weeks and two days since surgery, but my brain thinks I ought to be better NOW. Someone here said that the exhaustion lasts long past when you think it should after a major surgery, and I'm in that space right now. After my meeting, I got home, asked my son to wake me when the physical therapist arrived, and passed out for a solid hour in the recliner.
Luckily, only phone or Skype meetings for at least the next week. It's a very good thing.
Love y'all,

Tracey – we have a gas fireplace and it puts out a decent amount of heat without all the work.
M – I’m guessing that the stores throw away the food you return. I doubt they’d give it to a food pantry because they can’t be 100% sure it hasn’t been tampered with or if frozen food has been defrosted and then refrozen. They may donate canned goods, I honestly don’t know. I’m so sorry about the tutorials. How aggravating that is
NYKaren – lovely, lovely, lovely pics. How I wish I were with you! Thanks for sharing your adventure with us

I sort of jokingly told an administration person I had on the phone one time that I thought I should receive a degree for making successful registrations, applications, enrolments, etc. etc. at the university!! All the admin stuff I have had to wade through for each course, should add up to a degree!
She laughed ... and then agreed with me!!
Anyway, this will be Course 3 of 8 for my Masters in IT, and it is Network Security Techniques and Technology. Apparently about firewalls and security and things.

Tracey we did not get socked with snow until February too. We just past the record for the snowiest Feb. ever! We had the extreme cold this month too. Usually February is one of the nicer winter months. This feels more like our December or January. At least we are getting closer to end of winter.
Because of the weather our trash pick up and recycle have not been picking up very well. We have had just as bad of winters and not this problem. I think it is because they have gone to these automatic arms which work fine when there are not snow banks. They used to have their haulers move the cans to the back of the trucks to get them emptied.
We now have to leave both cans recycle and trash at the bottom of our driveway. They used to be picked up on separate days. Because of the snow banks and the two cans there is no room to get our cars out without moving the cans. They were supposed to pick up yesterday. No go, so now the cans are still at the end of the driveway
In the scheme of things a small problem. Still I wish the powers that be would think through the process before making such big changes. The robo arms work fine where there is not so much snow, but not here. It just makes another problem for us.1 -
If you live in the U.S., I would try to donate any unused/unopened food, rather than return it. The stores throw out all returned food. There may be a few stores (very few) that have organized a donation system with a local shelter, but the majority of stores just throw everything away. There is a whole culture of people who live off what they find in dumpsters. Sounds disgusting, until you see them pull out tons of heavily wrapped/packaged foods, health/beauty products, even furniture that has defects. It is strange, but you will see stores post signs saying that they will prosecute anyone who is caught stealing from their trash. !!?? That, to me, is equally disgusting; prosecuting people who can't afford the basics for stealing your trash. We live in an extremely wasteful society.
Heather- Love the carvings! Sorry about the crowds!
Beth- I hear you on the aching quads! The other day, I was remembering how I used to do 100-200 squats each morning; I can't push out 20 without my knee protesting loudly! Hurray for you and dusting off your kettle bell!
That's all I have for today. Sending love to all who need it! Welcome new girls! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)4 -

Rebecca: You are really very lucky that you live with close family, even though not everyone is there. We have two kids and they live clear across the country. We haven’t seen our daughter and her children for almost two years. Count your blessings.
Michele: We’ve never tried to return food to a grocery store. When we buy something and realize it is the wrong item we usually donate it to the food bank. Any opened containers go in the garbage. Between us we have several food intolerances. :ohwell:
Snowflake: I don’t know whether they will reimburse us the cost of the plumber. So far, he hasn’t charged us anything. :flowerforyou:
Tracey in Edmonton: Regarding electronic permission slips for parents—too many kids forge permissions as it is. If the permission slips can be printed, signed by parents and turned in by the kids, I don’t see a problem, but giving electronic permission online is too easy for kids to forge. :ohwell:
NYKaren: Enjoy your trip. :flowerforyou:
Machka: Your exercise log is impressive. WTG!!! Good luck with your tutorial. I hope you are able to get into the one you like most.
Lisa: Rest well.
Michele: We also have a gas fireplace and just had it worked on. They replaced the ignition system and everything is in better working order than ever. The cost was unexpectedly reasonable. WIN!!!
We’re working on our issue with the city water department. We hired a plumber and he traced the leak to the city water meter itself. They “worked on it” just before the water bill soared. He’s interceding for us and we’ll see how it goes. He hasn’t billed us yet, and I don’t think he plans to do so.
