I need an ear
Hello again everyone! I have commented on here a time or two. I am terrible about daily viewing, but I plan to tag this group so I can keep up.
I'm turning 54 this year and so mad at my body that I can't stand myself. I'm still having "the flow" and it's not on a schedule. Just when I've tracked it and think I'm good it decides to show up. I want it to stop so I can continue with my swimbikerun life. I know that is dramatic but for most of my life I've been able to control it and now I'm not. I have an event coming up in May and I keep telling myself if I start on or at that date I'll have to bail on the event. Sorry to vent, I'm not usually an "excuse" person but this has me stressed out. I know there are women out there who let nothing stop them but I'm in unchartered territory and not happy.6 -
Sunny and beautiful today. Will enjoy being outside walking. Roads are mostly melted and clear for walking.
Beth, wonderful your gas leak didn't ignite. Gas is so handy but can be so deadly. Glad the leak was discovered.
Wishing everyone well today.

Steff,
ah the joy of peri-menopause, at least, that is what they tell me. I did not behave that way. I was totally regular to the end, and the next month it just never came. But for 14 months after, had the worst migraines. My mom was completely different and at 63 ended up needing several D&Cs to stop. My sister was a whole other story. I guess that the best advice is to see your doctor. Some ladies did well with OTC herbals. Everyone is different.

only ate 262cal (breakfast) added 750 or so to allow me to complete the day. no workout. kirby says i have symptoms of the flu not a cold. had the sweats and shakes and felt like i was going to faint. he had to help me upstairs to bed, couldn't eat
Sounds like we've got the same thing!
Any back or kidney pain?
I wonder if someone from your part of the world travelled here.
EDIT: Just talked to some of my coworkers, and found that whatever I've got is going around ... it's a "back to school" flu. The kids all went back to school at the beginning of Feb and now it's spreading.
Sore throat
Headache - really intense!
Body/joint aches
Back/kidney pain
Extreme fatigue
Some nausea, dizziness & feeling faint

SERIOUS back (lower) pain2 -
found out yesterday after i got home that i had fainted yesterday morning. i plopped on the floor in the kitchen but i didn't know i did. kirby wanted to take me to the hospital, said he was scared.5

oh, KJ(Kelly)! Theres a liability issue involved, so stores have to post those signs. Most stores around here do donate boxed and canned goods to the Senior Center and the food pantry, both of which are great at helping folks in need.
Lisa in AR, the exhaustioncan certainly be prolonged unless you baby yourself a bit by getting those naps. Make sure you get your electrolytes in too, whether by a supplement or a beverage.
Machka, it's so frustrating getting registered for online classes here! My daughter needs to be on the phone to double-decker check the time they're going to be posted.
Pip! Please listen to Kirby and go! This is more serious than you think.

I’m getting behind too quickly on here! Must make this community a daily (perhaps twice a day?) thing!
Made 10,000 steps yesterday but went to bed late last night. Got absorbed in a movie, then didn’t sleep well because of restless dogs, so going easy today on walking. Maybe a bike ride.
In looking back, I started this new way of eating mid December at 194: I am now at 179! Not too shabby and I think this is a sustainable way of eating for me. As a plus, my DH finally came on board!

Ps... I’ve only had 2 cheat days where I went over on carbs since then and am doing 8/16 fasting most days of the week.

Went for my run today. Finished off the Allegri podcast and then had a blast of my old running music. By complete serendipity the first six tracks on shuffle were my favourites. Haven't played them in ages as I always listen to the Soul Music podcasts.
Still waiting to hear from my son about the weekend and our babysitting for their half marathon. I did text him to ask him to call me. I am very ambivalent about doing it as we have never had them here for the night before. Max will have to bring his own duvet and pillow. Plus we still have to silence the panic button. I'm also a bit put out as the nanny is leaving this weekend and I was hoping to be able to say goodbye.
The course runs at the bottom of our road. Don’t even know if my son is fit enough to run.

Thanks PurpleSparkles85! So that is peri-menopause. I do have an appointment in a few weeks with the doctor. Hopefully I can get some relief....

Water update: The city sent men out to look at the situation today. The men said said that the leak is on the house side of the water connection, so we have to pay for all the leaked water. We also have to get a plumber to replace a pvc connection with the required brass connection. Somebody in the building department let the builders get away with this 20 years ago. Now we have a big bill and anger. Hopefully we can get the faulty part replaced and then do business with the water department of the city. :grumble:

Hi everyone!
Kevrit- I missed it- what is your new eating plan???
More snow here today!
One of my high school friends, who 35 years later we both ended up in chemo at the same time....passed last night. I ate 3 frosted sugar cookies without thinking about it. Just mindlessly ate.
So starting over again today! It helps me to b able to check in and start tracking again!
Everyone have a good rest of your day!4 -
Hello ladies! We are adopting two cats! It's kinda a sad story as they've been in a shelter for years (never lived in a home). They are litter mates and look almost identical. I'm getting a room ready for them to live in for a little while before we introduce them to our two cats. They are supposed to be quite skittish. We'll see how it goes! I'm happy to give them a home.
Food & exercise have been good. I am trying to do my minimum 10 minutes earlier in the day and usually end up doing another session (or two, some days) later in the day. I find it improves my mood and I just feel better. I think I can tell the difference, too.. been doing it for about 6 weeks now and the exercises aren't as difficult and I get a little less winded. I've been using YouTube videos for "seated exercise" or "chair exercise" and when I find one I can do, I put it in a beginner playlist so i can go back to it.. if I find it's too challenging I put it in an "advanced" playlist and will try those ones in the future.
All of you are inspiring. I saw someone talking about perimenopause and I've had such a bad time with periods all my life.. they got really bad in my 30s, and now that I'm in perimenopause they are even worse. Also i have endometrial hyperplasia so they are always doing biopsies to see if it has turned to cancer. They wanted me to just have a hysterectomy but after a lot of thought I'm not doing it unless there is cancer. Anyhow, my gynecologist wanted to do a hysteroscopy and D&C but because of my weight she can't do it in the hospital she's at (it's a small local hospital), so I've been waiting for a referral for months... finally going to see a new gynecologist in March and see what she says. Being a woman is grand!
Sorry to hear about people having such issues with their husbands. My husband and I are both introverts and we've always had our own "space" in the house, and I think that has helped us a lot. I don't think he'll ever retire. I think he'd go mad!
Have a great day, everyone!

I had a total hysterectomy and ovaries out at age 48. Best thing I ever did. What a relief! Wish I'd done it earlier. My life was a total misery with flooding. I haven't missed my uterus etc one bit. (By the way I am still sexually active and fully functioning at age 69)

Went on the treadmill for about 45 minutes then took (for the last time this year) the Power Hour class. I really enjoy that class – challenges me. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Jari Love DVD
After exercise made two of the grapefruit pies, one to give them for their pot luck even tho I can’t go and one to take with us to Dick’s tomorrow. Then the sun came out (ya) so laid by the pool. Went into the pool but it was warm and the pool is heated, it really didn’t feel refreshing to me. I know they keep it warm for the people who have arthritis.
In a way I feel bad. If the recycling bins are full they ask that we put it in the garbage because if the lids aren’t closed on the recycling bins, when the wind blows, it blows the recyclables all over the parking lot. Bad part is that they only pick up the recyclables once/week. And with a lot of people, the bins get full fast
Pip – listen to Kirby. He has every right to be scared
Rita – what is your way of eating?
Noegrand – I’m so sorry about your friend
Shannon – I wish you the best with the cats

I am in pajamas and tucked in.... long day..but have the condo sort of back in shape...put the furniture back and ran errands.had to take my daughter up to pick up her car..
Gave my painter who is also a friend 50 bucks extra.. made him some cranberry orange bread and gave him a jar of my strawberry jam.. once I have the lighting put in I will have him come back and paint the ceiling.4 -
Machka- if I were closer I could help you with your tasks. I would love to feel useful again.
Allie - can’t wait to see pictures of your newly painted space.
Lisa - it is so hard to know what to say to someone going through marital discord. I have learned to listen mote than give advice sometimes that’s all the friend requires. I am so thankful I didn’t give up on my marriage.
You are doing so well with your recovery, but I can understand how exhausting all the PT is.
Kelly - A young lady that used to work for me talked to local grocery stores and has arranged to pick up items that will be discarded. She did this as she knew a couple of shelters that kept running low on food. She ended up with so much food she had trouble getting it all delivered and had to get friends to help her.
Katla - I cant believe I didn’t think of the kids and signing for parents. My Grandson is in Grade 2 so I was thinking that age group, but yeah much older and it would be a big problem. Glad to hear the plumber is working on your behalf!
Pip - I think it’s time to see a doctor.
I went for my perm today with Kaitlyn. I was her first (last July) and her last human model. She has three exams left to go for the school to earn her diploma and then she has to schedule her provincials.
I found out on FB this morning that one of my 1st cousins passed away. I hate that that is how that news is spread now. There were 33 of us, 4 have passed now. I am one of the youngest so I guess I better get used to it.

Michelle, I’m doing KETO which is low carb high fat. I use Stevia or Zylitol instead of sugar in recipes and repack white flour with Almond, coconut, or ground flaxseed flours (sometimes I combine them all!). I also do an 8/16 fast most days of the week. For example: breakfast at 9 am lunch between 1 and 2 then dinner done by 5 pm. My big meal is at lunch so easy to do. With the way I’m eating, I’m not hungry at all!

Perimenopause
Personal experience
Mine started in my early 40s with occasional night sweats, hot flashes, and a whole lot of irritability and rage. I was also experiencing dizziness in the 2 or 3 days before my periods started to the point where I sometimes had difficulty walking or focusing on my computer.
Into my mid-late 40s, my periods started coming all the time. This is one thing they don’t often tell you … that your periods may come heavier, longer and more frequently before the end. I’d have a heavy 2-week period, a few days off and then a lighter 1 week period, a few days off and then a heavy 2-week … and so on. Finally, after a year of that, I went to my doctor and asked if it was normal. “Possibly”. But just in case, she set me up with a gynaecologist.
Turns out it can be normal, but in my case, I had a large polyp in my uterus that was contributing to it all. The polyp was also pre-cancerous. That started follow-up checks every 6 months. I had it removed in January 2015, and started with MFP in February 2015.
For a while my periods were somewhat more normal … only every 21 days (instead of my old normal of 28 days) and roughly 10 days long (instead of my old normal of 5 days), and meanwhile I started experiencing a lot more of the perimenopausal symptoms. Nausea was added to my premenstrual dizziness, more hot flashes, acne, and all sorts.
Then in late 2016 and early 2017, everything went wonky again with my periods, I arranged to get things checked, and in mid-May 2017 I was back in surgery again for another polyp and more pre-cancer stuff.
I had a blissful 60 days with no period then, but returned to the 21 day cycle, roughly … sometimes 18 days, sometimes 25 days … I never knew. In 2018, I went 105 days without a period, then two periods in quick succession, and then 138 days without a period. I thought I was on a roll … but January 2019 surprised me with one, so the count began again. I’m up to 32 days now. One day, I'll hit the magic 12-month mark!!
In 2018, I also had massive hot flashes … they can be triggered by stress. Finally they got so bad, I saw my gynaecologic oncologist again and was put on a serotonin-based anti-depressant which has been quite helpful with the hot flashes.
Oh, I can’t use HRT … so I’ve been doing it all without hormone replacement!!

This is a great site: https://www.facebook.com/34MenopauseSymptoms/
And there are heaps more. These are just a couple, but there are pages of sites a person can look at. Back 10 years ago when I was first starting all this, there weren't as many sites, but now there's no reason to be uninformed about what's going on.

(BTW - I use FB for 2 things: keeping in touch with family and friends AND information. It’s my newsfeed. So I “like” sites like that one above.)

Is it heavy enough you can't do the events? Mine was heavy but with panadol and padded cycling shorts, I was still able to do some long rides in sort of reasonable comfort.

Now that the roads are mostly dry and the snow in the fields is melted enough to walk in without boots, my new pair of Yaktrax arrived. I am delighted to have them and even if I don't need them again for a year, I feel much safer.
I went out to lunch today with my line dance friends. We went to a restaurant I like and where I know what to order. Ordering from the ala carte menu allows me to order without sides that I don't want and in a small enough portion to be the right size for my meal. Someone commented that I seemed to be eating a lot, but what they didn't realize that I had ordered only half as much food as any of the rest of them.

Today is International Mother Language Day!
"Languages have great importance as they play a large role in identity, communication, social integration, the preservation of heritage, and education and development. The oldest known languages are Sanskrit, Sumerian, Hebrew, and Basque, although other languages that weren't written down likely predate them. Counting all the different dialects, there are about 7,000 languages in the world. Around the world, a language is lost every two weeks, and along with it cultural and intellectual heritage and diversity, such as traditions, memory, and distinct ways of thinking and expression. In all, about 2,400 languages are in danger."
Skimming again. Apparently I missed posting yesterday and never even realized it. But I'm celebrating with those of you who are celebrating, and holding those of you who are struggling in the light.
We have a weekly breakfast with friends and this weekend our friend who has Parkinson's disease told us his doctor had put him on niacin supplements and was describing the "niacin flush." All three (post-menopausal) women at the table just raised our eyebrows and gave him a look. Sounded like a hot flash to me!
I've been exploring some single-serving products and decided they are very handy for me right now. One go-to lately has been to empty a vacuum pack of tuna into a bowl, pile on whatever vegetables I have on hand, slice in a hard-boiled egg if I've got any, and stick it all together with a tablespoon of hummus or one of those mini-packs of guacamole. Genius! Today at the store I bought a bag of slaw mix - cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, and red cabbage. Figured it would be a good addition to the tuna salad. I also still have a few pea sprouts from the farmer's market and some broccoli seed I sprouted at home. I don't care for broccoli, so sprouted or chopped up in slaw are good ways to sneak some of its nutrition into my diet.
Stayed on track with calories today, got my steps in, and did my workout on the ski machine. The scale has been in the same place for several days now so I may need to push a little harder to knock it loose.

tracey - I'm so sorry to hear about your cousin.
Went to canasta tonight. Until next year. Hopefully, since we won't have the commitment of Newcomers we can stay longer
After canasta went in the backyard and watched SpaceX take off. Unfortunately, it took off from pad 40 so we could only see when it was in the sky. It never ceases to amaze me how long it is until you hear (and feel) the sonic boom. Vince was saying how people were lined up along Route 1. Glad we are in the condo.
