Tomatoes are growinnnggg! I can’t WAIT!5 -
Spring inflected dinner, local asparagus, plus morels (bought, not foraged). That other stuff is red lentil penne with Cypress Grove Psychedillic, a chevre with dill weed (looks iffy, tasted good). There was also a biggie salad with local romaine, mixed baby greens, baby spinach; cherry tomatoes; cucumber; local Spring onion; and a dressing of avocado mash, plain Greek yogurt, fresh-ground pepper.

Afterthought: Some of the above was enabled by my friends with the farmers market produce box subscription leaving town again, and gifting me the box. Contents, clockwise-ish: Asparagus, mixed baby greens, baby spinach, bok choi, Swiss chard, Spring onions. And free to me: Hard to beat that. I get next week's box, too. 😋

Picked a huge fistful of mint and made a mint infused simple syrup! I actually added a splash to some herbal tea yesterday and it was PHENOMENAL.5 -
Got another nice produce box, courtesy of my friends who are traveling so let me pick it up, eat the goodies. This time, radishes, violets, mustard greens, red lettuce, green garlic, asparagus.
I don't know what I'm going to do with the violets. They're like lovely tiny delicate jewels, but I don't really like the taste of violets. 😐5 -
I got a micro green grow kit (for kids) as a hostess present.

@AnnPT77 those are some GOOD friends!! I think I should do some garden deliveries to my sisters this weekend. That looks like what is coming out of my garden right now (minus the onions-wish I had some though!!)1
-
@AnnPT77 every time you post a produce box I'm envious! Never tasted violets though.
I bought another bok choy yesterday. It works great as a substitute for spinach in my egg muffins and it's sure a heck of a lot cheaper.
Right now though I'm hopefully waiting on my garden. Eggplant, tomato, zucchini, Swiss chard, kale, beets, carrots, beans and raspberries are hopefully coming.2 -
Gardened some today and then (friend in town) grilled, including asparagus from the farmer's market on the grill and then green beans in the pan I can use on the burner on my grill with fresh dill from my back porch herb cart.3

I worked a bit in the garden/yard today. Unintentional exercise. I filled the green waste cart and have buckets waiting for it to be emptied.
And, of course, I brought in some cut flowers.....
Three are steaming away right now.5 -
Really regretting not buying spinach at the Farmers Market. It would have been great sauteed down and put on some english muffins with avocado, bacon, and eggs for lunches. Oh well. We are slowly getting more and more produce into the market. Tonight I will be using some asparagus I got and the next few days I have romaine for taco salad.4

When do you deem a pineapple ripe? According to the label from the supermarket you need to be able to pull out a leav easily. Not the case with the one I have now. However, when I smell the fruit it smells sweet.
Trying to decide whether I can make pineapple fried rice with the fresh pineapplle (that might not be ripe) or with tinned pineapple.1 -
The very INNER leaves get easier to pop out as it ripens, if it's going to ripen. I could go for some grilled pineapple....1

Thanks for the tip about the *inner* leaves. I used the fresh pineapplle. I loved grilled pineapple with grilled red onions too.

I saw fiddlehead ferns at my local Wegmans for (gasp) $17 a pound, but I HAD to have them. I haven’t had them since I was a kid but I remember loving them, and they did NOT disappoint this time either. My mom was visiting and treated us to 1/2 lb, so I steamed them, then sauteed in some butter and garlic, with a touch of s&p. My mom and I spent 5 minutes after we ate ours raving over how good they were lol6 -

When I was a kid I remember getting them frozen so they could be eaten outside of their very short season. I wonder if they are just as expensive frozen?1 -

I finally managed to buy frozen artichoke hearts in the UK and am a little disappointed so far. I tried roasting and there were some inedible stringy bits. Tried braising which was better but there were still some hard stringy bits. What is your favourite way to deal with frozen artichoke hearts? Short of defrosting and trimming them down to remove bits of leaf and choke.0

I grew up in Canada. Maybe it is a Canadian thing? They are pretty expensive frozen too.

I love artichokes, but.... REALLY?
I ate NINE of them today. I steamed five last night and left them for today and ate them earlier. They were tasty. I cut four more today, and I just steamed and ate THEM with some garlic butter. I also cut three more and they are in a vase on the counter. I have a neighbor that says wants some, but it's been really hard to connect. Other neighbors already got some. They'll get more.....
I am actually considering digging most of them up this fall and having a smaller forest. But then I'd be sad. They are tasty.5 -

I have kale and Swiss chard seedlings appearing, all of the pot veggies have buds that are starting to open, and the bees are busy in the raspberries. Waiting on the beets, carrots, and beans to make an appearance. I'm going to have lots of fresh produce to eat soon.2
-
I'd take some of the artichokes if you want to send them my way!2

We are thinking of ordering a veggie box. Does anyone here live in the Toronto, Ontario area and order them? If so, where from? We have been inspired by reading the posts on this thread. I will eat any veggies and my husband is now willing (or do he says lol) to try some new types.1
