WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR APRIL 2019

April greetings. March was good. Lost one pound and am happy with the loss. I didn’t log food daily but I did exercise daily and for the month of March walked 22 more miles than in February. In April my goals are to log every bite and walk at least 5 miles daily. Also will try to log my water every day.
Spring weather makes it fun and easy to enjoy walking my girl Ella. She’s learning not to pull on the leash. I just have to get consistent.. I love that there are not bad dogs, just bad owners. 😉 I’m guilty for sure.
Thanks Barbi for this new thread.

Where’d my post go? Anyway, yesterday I rode the recumbent bike, today the plan is to do some of the 10MS Pilates and then take the extremepump class. The plan for tomorrow is to do the 400 calorie burn Fix DVD
I really like logging my food on Nutritionix. I like the fact that all the items have been verified, and it’s so easy to do.
Welcome everyone new!
Katla – if I don’t write things down, I know that I’d forget things I ate. There have been times when I went to log my days’ food and said “did I have that”. I would have forgotten otherwise. I usually log my breakfast (if I know it) and at least the meat/protein portion of my dinner
Went to exercise class, then to the church to count the money, now getting ready for bowling. Ceramics tonight and then mahjongg
Penny – did you happen to hear us talking about you and wondering where you were? I know you’ll do fantastic at that marathon and we’ll all be cheering you on.
Laura – welcome. You’ve come to a great place, many of us can relate only too well.
Welcome to everyone new and to those returning.
Lanette – so glad you can find us.
Have to take two of the cats to the vet tomorrow. Then the guy who is going to be the new Newcomer treasurer is coming over to get some things from Vince. Hopefully, it isn’t too cold and we can continue to get the pool opened. If not, hopefully tomorrow or later this week.

Hi I just started MFP on Feb. 26, down 6.5 lbs, 3 inches and 56 years later old. My April goals are to be diligent in entering my own food instead of what someone else has already added. I’m only as good as the data I put in but as a good cook that cooks complicated food, it’s very time consuming. Second goal: continue to find other ways to de-stress besides drinking alcohol. I ordered a Ukrainian Easter egg kit to focus on creating decorative eggs. Third goal: Continue to research cute clothes to buy for myself for our trip to Europe this summer. Laura in Miami6

Barbara ... your link was for a different Cumin-lime Slaw ... but I bookmarked it because it looked good! More veggies than the one I made (Bobby Flay's).
Very tired tonight and both DH and I seem to be coming down with something. Might have been from standing in the rain Saturday trying to fix a broken fence. Time for more vitamin C!2 -
Well, I went over in calories, but that means I actually logged all my food!! I am happy about that!
Wonderful to hear from Lisa and Penny!
Lisa, I hope you are able to shake off your malaise soon, happy that you and Corey are enjoying your couple time!
Michele, your ceramics are so cute, wish I was that talented!
The weather forecast is for rain for a few days, for the sake of our forests, I really hope so! It will put our garden plans on hold for a few days, but that's okay, we'll have plenty of time!
That's it for me for now, hugs for those who need them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Happy April Fool’s Day!!
I expected my DH to trick me but nothing!
Thank you Barbie for setting up April’s thread!
I haven’t checked in in a few days... over a 100 posts!
Doing spring cleaning around here. I plan to take my hutch apart and move it so I can paint the wall behind it. It’s going to be a job unpacking it!
The Oaklawn Racetrack now has a Casino. That’s cool! That is one of two in Arkansas! Hot Springs used to have casinos back in the hay-day when Al Capone came down in the winter. They were operating until 1950 and then made illegal.

Rebecca: I am so happy that you are getting needed rest. It sounds as though you are sleeping more than before. Yay!
Sue in WA: Spring has started with some lovely weather here. I am so grateful for it. Your home & land looks like a grand place to live.
Tomorrow begins a pair of medical weeks for all of us. I have a dentist appointment. The dog will be getting a cyst removed at the vet’s office on Wednesday & DH has a colonoscopy coming up next week. It feels like quite a lot all at once, but we will handle it one thing at a time. I hope everything turns out well.

Hi all I’m new to the group. Another Canadian here. I’m on a journey to get fit and lose some stress eating weight and kill the sugar habit I developed over the past few months. My goals for April are to log everything! Meditate and journal daily and get into a routine now that I am no longer working. I’m 55 and about to become a grandmother for the first time.

Hi! Thanks for the new thread! Tax season is crazier than I ever remember it. I’m working OT, and thathas never happened before. I’m holding steady at 197.4#. Not getting enough protein. Not drinking quite enough, but close.
I hope I get to post again.

Thank you Barbie, for setting up this thread again. I keep setting my goal at just logging my food. Have not yet done so. Maybe April will be the month that it happens.... I am going to try! I should channel Yoda "There is no try, just do!" lol
My weight has been holding steady for the past two weeks, I guess that's good as I'm not gaining, but I would prefer to be losing, so apparently need to change something!
We are enjoying the lovely weather that we are currently having. We have run out of landscape ties for our backyard project, so I have booked a rental truck (just a pickup) to go back to Home Depot and get more. Will also get more dirt while we're at it. Hopefully will be able to get enough to finish the project this time. Hubby has measured and calculated, so..... ever hopeful! It will look so nice when it's finished! Of course, the hard work for me starts after he has built the "planter", I have to go thru several smaller planters and re-distribute the bulbs that are in all of them. When we moved a few years ago, I just stuck bulbs in whatever we could take with us, I did a little bit of planting, but didn't have enough planters and kept buying bulbs (duh!) and just stuffing them in wherever I could. Now I would like to get some organization and some summer blooming plants as once spring is done, so are the flowers. Need some shade loving plants, I've found a few, going to get a bleeding heart and a hellebore. I also have a hydrangea that I will move into the backyard, there are a few brighter areas where it should do fairly well. That's my next 3 or 4 weeks planned out for me! On the bright side, doing all this should keep me from eating! I also need to get some work done in the flower beds in our complex, the weeds have definitely taken over!
Hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!
Evelyn, Vancouver Island
You'll have to post some photos when you get it done.
We're trying to grow more hydrangeas. We've got one, but I'd like a bunch of them.

Penny here. I've been through the wars over the past couple months. I think I last posted from Cabo Verde in January, and I haven't logged in since then. How lovely to see you all again!
My long silence was caused by overwork. By coincidence two very big projects I'd agreed to well in advance both turned out to have several different non-negotiable deadlines on the same days. I kept up my health project as long as I could, jogging regularly and eating with my brain turned on, but the eating went down the drain in late January and the (regular) jogging followed soon after. Funny thing (not) is I've gained about 2 kg since then.
The real eye-opener is how quickly I lost my form. It's frightening how easily I tire now. I fully intend to claw my way back but it will take me some time. To help focus my attention, I'm going to register to run Spitsbergen half-marathon two months from today. My darling daughter has already registered, so that will be fun, even though we won't be running together. She will have completed her half-marathon, walked home, showered, changed and walked back to the finish line before I get there.
I began the recovery process a couple weeks ago by upping my jogging (increasing the frequency rather than the distance) and have started logging my food again. One step at a time...
/Penny, on the road to recovery at the
I'm with you on losing form. We were doing well at the beginning of January, but then I injured my back and hip and it all went downhill.
Now I go to climb stairs or walk briskly and I'm huffing and puffing.
Good on you for aiming for the half marathon! I'm looking at a 5K toward the end of May.

Morning Ladies~
I am up and having my tea, and about to watch Joyce, then will get dressed and go walk the boys and feed DFIL.
Chris is coming around 1 to finish up the ship lap and then for right now things will be done at least for this year..

Evelyn I have logged my breakfast and also lunch (because I know in advance what I am eating lol) then I'll see how many calories left for tea. I'm going to try and limit the snacks today and move more. I see you have logged too, Yey us!!
I really need to make some goals for April. I don't usually make monthly goals because I never stick to them and feel a failure.
I'll give it some thought, but need to get off the computer and move.
So much to do before I go to see my parents. Think mum wants dads bedding changing (if he's awake!) He's been very sleepy the last few days so we've not been able to do it.
Take care and love to all

Hi all!
Swing dance class tonight.
Today I'm going to have to do some food planning. Tomorrow we are doing a nursery and school pick up so will be getting home at dinner time. I think I will make a ragu this afternoon , (bolognese sauce), so I can rustle up a quick pasta when we get back. DH insists on veggies, so I will probably cook up some broccoli.
Thursday I hope to be up in London, seeing my cancer friend, so I'm not at all sure what time I'll be home. Best thing is if he goes ahead with a portion of ragu and adds what he likes (baked potato? ) and I just play it by ear. Might get sushi for the train.
DH has cricket for four days starting Friday, but I'm going to let him sort out his own lunches etc. I am away in York for my friend's celebration Saturday to Monday, so will do something for Friday night dinner and then let him sort himself out. Where we used to live the Hampshire cricket ground was ten minutes drive away, now it is at least an hour and a half. He will have to apply his brain as to how he is going to cope with that. We normally eat at 6.15. He won't be back until gone 8.00. Luckily it's not hard to find food at any time of day in Brighton and Hove.
I could let myself worry about him and prepare stuff for this weekend, but I'm not going to let myself. He is a fully functioning adult.
The weather has been glorious here, but has taken a turn for the worse. Grey skies today. Not a good forecast for the week.

Paula from Florida. 59 yo. Started end of January and have lost 8 to date. Lost 2 # in March and goal is 2 more in April. Total of 6 more pounds by July. Going slow, don't want to lose muscle and want it to be sustainable through the fall. Training for a powerlifting meet in June and one in August4

Penny – did you happen to hear us talking about you and wondering where you were? I know you’ll do fantastic at that marathon and we’ll all be cheering you on.
Oh, and that race is only a half-marathon. It will be my third time around this course. It's spectacular running and seeing those snow-clad mountains 40-50 miles away on the other side of the fjord. Of course having that view requires clear weather. If we get overcast and windy and only a couple degrees above freezing, the race won't be quite so much fun. On the other hand, I'm used to that kind of weather.tuttiatavola1 wrote: »Hi I just started MFP on Feb. 26, down 6.5 lbs, 3 inches and 56 years later old. I'm gobsmacked by all the descriptions of rose buds and planting and grass-mowing. We've still got snow and ice everywhere, though the earth has tipped over far enough since the equinox that it no longer gets dark at night.
My husband has started doing a cute thing. He gets up a lot earlier than I do. He also showers in the morning, whereas I usually wait to shower until after I've been jogging. When he gets out of the shower, he writes a message on the steamed-up mirror. By the time I get to the bathroom, everything has dried out and the message is invisible. But one afternoon, when I got out of the shower myself, I found the word "KISS" on the mirror. It has evolved from there...

Setting Goals ... I confess to not being good at goal setting in the past. And I see a lot of you are a lot like me! This quote always motivates me and is ... in part ... why I decided to commit to specific goals and actions this year in my weight loss efforts.

I used to be really good at goal setting. I had heaps of goals. And I met most of them!
A little over a year ago, that all changed and ever since then, I've just been trying to do the next thing on the list ... and not forget anything. I live constantly with that feeling like I'm forgetting something.
These (in my MFP blog) are the Brain Injury websites I have been referring to over the past year or so. It’s a lot to wade through, but if you’re interested in anything about brain injury this is a good place to start ...

Yesterday was a busy day at work. Apparently college students "think" they can tell the instructor how to write the exam and what questions should be on the exam. I've never had a group like this. I think they are just tired because we have 4 weeks left in the semester.
My daughter is on spring break this week. That means the ballet school is closed too, so less driving all over for me.
I felt great about March...until the end of the month. I did great logging into MFP, but the allure of Easter candy got me about 3 times the end of March. To my credit, I didn't buy a big bag and eat it. That's what I would have done last October (Halloween was tough!!). Darn those Reese's eggs are hard to pass by. I did continue to exercise and make good food choices so I still had weight loss.
April goals...to continue the momentum I have with MFP. Continue using the gym. Hope for warmer dry weather so I can walk in our Waterfront Park. It's so beautiful along the river. I'd like to lose 10 more pounds by the end of the month. That means no more Easter candy!!
