So ... two of the things on my list today were Optometrist appointments for my husband and me.

    An hour later ...

-- he's got his glasses sorted so that he'll have two pair with the correct prescription in them. He was seeing double after the accident, but that gradually healed to a point and he's had to go through a progression of lenses since last June as his vision healed. Hopefully we're on the last set now.

-- I have a brand new pair of progressive desk glasses on their way and new progressive lenses for general use will be put into an existing frame. My distance vision has improved, and my shorter vision has worsened.

Interestingly, I can wear a pair of my older prescription sunglasses again! Since my distance vision has improved, they're right for me again in that regard, except that my axis of astigmatism is 12 degrees off, so they aren't perfect.

Anyway, hopefully my new progressive lenses for general use will work this time. I tried them about 6 years ago, and they did not work for me at all. I was so seasick. The place we got the glasses wasn't great, and we were getting ready to move, so the only solution they offered me was to replace the lenses with plain bifocals. Those were ok but not great. I only wore them for cycling.

Since then, I've been able to wear progressive desk lenses just fine with no seasickness ... so I'm hoping that I'll also be able to wear the general uses progressives now too. Especially if they're made by a company that knows what they are doing!!

The joys of being so short-sighted I'm almost legally blind.

I found this definition of a goal and it occcurred to me that maybe it's the deadlines that we set for ourselves that are the problem, rather than the goals.
A goal is an idea of the future or desired result that a person or a group of people envisions, plans and commits to achieve. People endeavor to reach goals within a finite time by setting deadlines.

Betsy and Viv: Tumble and I had a happy accident today. When we got to dog group, there was no collar on her neck! I'd removed it for grooming and forgot to put it back on. Poop! Might as well go home, can't do this without a collar. Hmm, dug around the car's door's pockets where I sometimes keep spare leads. Eureka! THERE is the Gentle Leader for which I've been looking for weeks. She let me put it on, tried to shake and paw it off a few times, then settled in and accepted it. For the FIRST time since we've been going to dog group (over a year) we were able to do both pack walks without me struggling with her forging and having to drop out. She was still barky to the newest dogs, but accepted some of the less new, did the mixer, needle and thread as well as the shoelace weave with no major meltdowns. Oh and 8K+ steps, highest since retiring in '16. Happy day!
Terri sound SMART advice, but love best the "Just for today" and "Just for this hour". Great strategies!
    Heather really really hope you don't bring Bea's woes to York, except maybe it would make your difficult friend back off a bit... ;}
NYKaren you must be soooo proud!
KJ "...doesn't know his fruits and veg" reminds me of a story Mama told on Papa. She sent him to the store for lettuce and he came back with cabbage. She did all the shopping after that, could he have done it on purpose? ;)
Barbie and Margaret add me to the group of careful receipt and statement checkers. Also verify checking account with bank's website almost daily. Obsessive? MOI??? Nonetheless, forgot to push the SUBMIT button on a credit card payment so got a late fee. Called them up and because of history and paying full amount due only 2 days after due date, they forgave the late fee.
Mary in AZ couldn't agree with you more about the stupidity of obedience training dogs to walk on handler's left, just for the trail and sidewalk dog meeting reason you mentioned. Yet I still do it. SMH!
Tracey good for you for going to that job seekers group. Hope you got some helpful insights/information. Loved the Uncle Bruce story ;)
Katla printed crown? Amazing new world! Wishing you safe travels tomorrow and hoping for helpful results from DH's test.
Sue in WA do those hyacinths have a sweet scent?
Rebecca sending positive for that view house on windy top!
Michele I am so with you about checking expiry dates and choosing meats and produce myself. Doubt I'd ever be comfortable with the click and pickup type grocery services. Likewise keep my grocery and to do lists on iphone, love the free AnyList app.
Machka Couragia! Each step forward is a step forward. Adding new things are new steps, not backwards steps. You are making progress! Wow, 100-150/week for little meat and no produce? Food is expensive in Tasmania!
Shannon in Ontario, I've seen your exercise posting on my timeline and am so proud of you. Keep on keeping on!

Welcome twilli1127, welcome back Tracie from Green Bay and Ginger in TX. Good to see you posting!

This is our grocery store: https://www.woolworths.com.au/

It doesn't take long to add up!

I do order sweet potatoes, carrots, and a pile of frozen veggies online, but we buy the rest of the produce in person.

Yes, Australia is more expensive than the US, and Tasmania is likely the most expensive State in Australia because it's a rather remote island and a lot of stuff needs to be shipped here.

When you live here, it's not so bad, but tourists usually comment!! When I was a tourist, I went through a little bit of sticker shock too.

Barbara, congrats to you and Tumble! And those steps....congratulations again.

Viv, nice idea to use the right side and allow space with oncoming walkers with dogs.

Yesterday had my six month eye exam and eye pressure was stable.

Allie I am hearing many red flags in your current job. Make finding another job your job now. Best to leave on your own terms not on the terms of what is happening in your office. As my son says the best person to look after you is you. Your current employer has no loyalty to you. He did not hire you he hired the 32 year old for his own reasons. To me that is red flag enough!

I agree with Margaret. I am becoming quite suspicious about why the young guy was hired. When things don't add up, I cynically jump to "someone is sleeping with someone (or wants to)." The doc doesn't seem to be listening to reason when it comes to the new employee, so something is off.

Heather--Pray you and DH do not catch anything. And that your trip goes well with a nice visit.

Katla--Sending prayers and hugs for you and DH that all goes well.

Shannon--Sounds like you are doing great. Keep it up!

My swing shift person just called in so I will be doing extra making my 8 hour day 12-14 hours. Gotta love it.

Tracey--I hope you get good news at the doctor and nothing is broken. Sounds like your appointment with the job person went well. Keeping you in prayer for a good job soon. Looking forward to seeing what you pick for the family pictures.

Rori--enjoy your massage. Have you talked to Meg? I do worry about her.

Well have to shift my mind set to do some afternoon duties. I am trying to finish up a baby blanket I am making for my niece's baby shower Saturday. It's not the end of the world if I don't get it done as I can mail it.

    Hi Gals,

Viv – your Frankie sounds like my Levi – but if it is just people (no animals) he is the best dog – he cuddles, he keeps track of me, he is super attuned to my moods and responds appropriately - when it is his time I will not miss the reactive aspect of Levi, but I will be very sad.

Allie – the writing is on the wall – the new guy doesn’t get it, business is not doing great (or he would not have been hired), business is doing worse as he is upsetting clients, you and the new guy have not bonded --- it’s time to seriously job hunt. ** I see a few others think the way I do **

Machka – wow those prices !

Heather – glad you went and had a nice time.

its not my boss , he is very personable and is very kind to us, its the yutzy office manager~ nobody likes him... we shall see..I want our boss to succeed, but if he gets rid of all of us that are long term employees that will be the nail in the coffin..
But yes I am looking...and praying the right thing comes along..

My visit with my cancer friend went well. I bought some bits for lunch and some treats for her and we chatted about life. I was all set to leave at 3 when she suddenly started talking about her funeral wishes, so I stayed another half an hour as I reckoned there aren't too many people she can talk like that with. She is writing down all her wishes, tying up all the ends. She is much weaker, breathless and tires easily, but still her old self.
I was reminded of Machka as she says it is a full time job just running her life with all the medical and admin stuff. The phone was constantly ringing with stuff to organise!
Journey home by train was a bit tiring as the fast was cancelled and I had to wait for a later one. In Brighton I jumped off the bus to buy sushi, but made it back by 6.30.

Just about broken even on maintenance calories because I did 300 on the rower before I left. Plus a bit of walking in London.

Tired now. Just watching an old Vera.

    So glad I went. <3

    Love Heather UK xxxxxxx

I'm glad you were able to visit your friend, and yes I understand completely about the full time job just running her life with all the medical and admin stuff. That's why it is hard for her to commit to visits. I'm currently booking into the middle of May right now, but I no sooner get a week set up with a reasonable schedule, then a specialist rings up and needs to put an appointment right into the middle of it all and I spend the next day reorganising everything.

Health systems provide a lot of stuff ... but the one big thing they're lacking are personal secretaries to handle all this stuff and take the pressure off.
