Hi community! This is my first time to join and share on a community so I’ll be learning! (Matter of fact I all ready posted this discussion and have no idea where!!!)
I’ve joined because I need to support and I really need support. I’ve now been overweight for half my life. It has been a struggle in many ways over the years but now it’s really effecting my health. Now losing weight is a have to. I have come to believe, after many attempts to lose weight, that I can’t do it; I have to. So no more I can’t...I’ll battle that in my mind.
I’m an emotional eater and , shall I admit, greedy eater. I have to address these issues! Using Fitness Pal is a start...right?
Thanks for listening community. It sounds like I need goals for May:
1 - walk 3 times a week.
2 - call someone as I drive home to keep me from stopping for fast food.
3 - pray about it.
4 - follow Fitness Pal.
I believe that’s doable!
Thanks y’all!6 -
Hello everyone! Still fighting off a cold! I did just get done with my exercises. Now to take Shep out to play. Then laundry.
Kettlebell Workout
Goblet Squats 3x5x40
Russian Swing 19x7x40
Have a great weekend everyone!

hkstubbs34 another trick for avoiding drive thru-have a healthy protein snack in the car, keep wallet in the trunk and choose a different route home —do this everyday until it is your new normal way to get home from work

Had a bit of a sugar binge this afternoon. It was after the grandkids left and I went out shopping for food. I think I was missing them. Came back feeling tearful. I was tired from waking up very early so I had a short nap.
Not pleased with myself, but tomorrow is another day. My friend is coming to visit. Funny how you can feel down when everything is so good.

Happy Derby Day!! We have a few friends over, but keeping the snacks to a minimum. It’s a bit rainy, but not the total washout we were originally expecting. I could use a little sunshine.
Have a great weekend!!

That's great. Starting slow til you get to know how your new knees will react. Taking baby steps is what worked for me.

April Goals:
1. Time restricted eating -- 19/5. 100%
2. Log. 50%
3. New recipe/new food item each month. Yes
4. Journal each day. 100%
5. Declutter one area of home for 15 minutes each day. 50%
6. Clean kitchen/sink before bed. 75%
7. Consistency in kettlebell workouts. 60%
8. Read new Gretchen Rubin book. No
April was a tough month with illness, travelling and more than usual stressors. Lost 2 pounds in April and that is only due to the 19/5 time restricted eating plan. While I didn't lose a lot, my clothes are becoming very baggy!
May Goals: The same. My goal is 1 pound per week and since January have averaged 1.3 pounds. I would like to see a greater loss this month. Having lost an additional 3 pounds since I calculated the April month loss, this is doable. Need to focus on better eating – way too much sugar in April – and become consistent with kettlebell workouts. I was really gaining steam there when I became very ill.
Who am I?
My name is Beth and I’m 56 years old. I am married going on 35 years, work part-time as a housekeeper, and have two sons ages 32 and 21. My older son, physically disabled since birth, was living independently in a self-directed apartment, but on Monday moved into a NYS certified setting. He loses some autonomy but gains consistent aide care – something that was falling apart for him. He speaks multiple languages and is currently working on a second bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies and Theology. My younger son, a chronic migraine sufferer, is a contemporary music student (just finished his junior year) in Nashville pursuing a career in songwriting/production. He’s working this summer in Nashville at what he calls his “dream job” – working in production for a record label. Both of my sons have had to overcome significant issues in their lives and I’m inordinately proud of both of them.
I have struggled with my weight all of my life. I thought I was fat (I was not) when, at 5’8” I weighed 150 pounds. I began MFP in 2012 at my heaviest (somewhere around 280 – I stopped weighing after I saw that number) and lost 80 pounds mostly through CICO and a personal trainer. My trainer moved on and I floundered with the exercise, eventually quitting. Family medical problems consumed my time and I gained 40 pounds back. In January of this year I read Dr. Bert Herring’s book “Fast-5 Diet and the Fast-5 Lifestyle” and “AC – The Power of Appetite Correction” – which highlights the benefits of 19/5 intermittent fasting (time restricted eating as Mary mentioned) and have lost a total of 25 pounds. It’s a lifestyle that I can see myself doing indefinitely as there is no “dieting” per se. I'm currently at 219 pounds and I have at least 60 more pounds to lose. (I have never posted these weight numbers publicly before!)
I've been with this group for a few years and love you all!

Good evening all.
Machka—thanks for sharing your success with stretches. I know I have a bit of osteoarthritis in lower back but I’m still convinced it is muscle recovery from hip and my high arch. I’ll see what doc has to say. It isn’t really interfering with my life-just an annoyance. Certainly nothing like what your husband is dealing with.
AKdogpile-great job on the bike. You are being sensible not to push it too much, just consistent improvement. I am amazed by artificial joints.
Had a very good, different Saturday schedule for me. Did treadmill and some things around house and went to my youngest son's this afternoon. I thought I was getting him a golf club for his birthday but he asked if we could switch it up to a grill/smoker. He does food prep for the week on Sundays so will get good use out of it. We went to the outlet malls and the Clarks shoe store was having a sale. Found a navy pump and dressier brown shoe for work--my son paid for them and said "Happy Mother's day." Since his birthday is early May, we often combine his bday with that, especially with work schedules, etc. Had dinner at a Mexican restaurant and was able to make good choices, net calories find. Made sure I got over 10,000 in today, so very pleased with keeping that up.
The seaside pictures are really making me jealous--being landlocked in the midwest, I miss the ocean. I think I would like living there in retirement, but it would not be near any of the kids. Will have to give that some thoughts.
Take care,

Heather, i never will forget how startled the elementary school cafeteria was when my mother asked how many calories were in our lunches. It was, as a matter of fact, her misplaced concern about my weight that started me on a life of being sure something was wrong with my body. Even when I did store modeling in my mid-teens, I was sure something was wrong. Part of it, however, was the notion of being singled out by her about my weight. I was just at the beginning of an early puberty, when many put in a few pounds to prepare for the growth spurt ahead. My grandmother was obese, and my mother had always been embarrassed by her, I believe. I think programs like the ones in a number of places that are focused on helping children see that moving is fun and that we should pay attention to what we eat have a much greater chance of being successful.
Bananas, whom I now know as Julie, thank you for the insight into who you are. It sounds as if you’ve probably had a clear idea of what you wish from life for some time. Good luck with your ph.d.
Rebecca, my husband donated his body to something called The Genesis Group. Their conditions were similar. When they had done putting his body to use, they sent me the cremated remains and a nice long letter detailing all the ways his body had been useful. It was SO satisfying! That was precisely what he wanted to happen. To be of use to the utmost that he could. And nothing cost me a penny. I don’t qualify - not because I have too much metal in my body. I have two knees and my left hip replaced, and 8 discs fused, so I get very special treatment at the airport. Langley, on Whidbey Island, has a green cemetery. No embalming, no vaults, no heavy coffin. They open your chosen gravesite, your loved ones wrap you in a favorite quilt or shroud, and you are placed in the earth, covered, and nature has its way with you. I like that idea.
it’s been a lovely day outdoors today, but I’m saving my energy for tomorrow, when I’m meeting a new group of women hosted by a friend for a Cinco de Mayo potluck and Bunco party. I’m not sure what Bunco is other than that it’s a game, but my friend is a lively cheerful woman, and I gather her friends are the same. One of the group will be missing tomorrow, so I’m the fill-in!
I weighed in at 190# even today, so another 2.8# and I’ll have lost 75 total. I’m very pleased about that! I’m also enjoying finding out who you believe you are!

NYKaren interesting mix of offerings at the Boomer Expo I'd need those extra Mindfulness and paced breathing sessions, especially after the legal and financial ones. Salsa, Cha cha and Tango? Yes, yes YES!!!
Lisa likewise it's more than a day's drive from southern to northern California border but as a native I was used to it. Driving across Nebraska however, seemed longer (it wasn't) and a lot less scenic (sorry Vickie and Karen in VA).
Elizabeth I'm with you on meditating. Should be as routine as brushing my teeth but alas...
Machka having to winnow your words so far down, means you pack a lot of information into your assignment. Not so for the students who have to fluff up to make word counts. It shows in your grades. Brava! Prefer the freesias and jonquils to daffodils, I like my flowers scented
Welcome hkstubbs!
Beth hooray for baggy clothes!
Sharon 190? Awesome!
Lighter, lovelies!

Word for 2019: "GOOD" good attitude, good food, good times, good choices, good enough, feel good, GOOD! Word for May "pause" Thank you Barbie!
05/04: LT: dog group-Y MT: make tacos-Y ST: bake sale-Y but even though I prepped by eating an ounce of jerky, I wolfed down a cakek ball, a rice crispie treat and a lemon cookie in the car from bake sale to dog groupo. Ugh!

Thank you! And I did get it down to 788 words, but can't go any lower than that and still make sense. Close enough! But double that would have been better.
And the scent was what swayed my decision. I stood there and read packets and liked the comments, "vibrant colour and delicate perfume" on the jonquil packet, and "the heady scent of freesias is one of the true delights of spring" on the freesias packet. The daffodils packet did not say those things ... they were also quite large and I'm not sure they'd fit under the tree.

Good morning! Waiting for my friend to arrive. I think I'm over yesterday's funk. Done most of my exercises, apart from weights. I hope to get quite a lot of walking in today.
Carol - Good for you for opening up. I am drinking more than I was too and I will cut down again. I felt great when I was largely AF. It's not so much the drinking, which is moderate, but more the feeling that I'm letting myself down. Like my sugar binge yesterday. I feel so much better when I keep my commitments to myself.
Exercise, write, AF. That feels gooooood!
I have put on a pound or so too. Just being a bit indulgent.
Lots of love to all the strugglers. Heather UK xxxxxxx4 -
Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
For the Internet-savvy, TL;DR. Short version - we bought a car yesterday, and I've seldom been so happy going into debt for something. Details in the spoiler for why I'm so happy.Well, my husband and I broke down and bought a car yesterday, and for the first time in many years, actually bought a new one. His pickup truck, which we've had longer than any vehicle, is up to 250,000 miles, and is at that stage where it's about to need hundreds, if not thousands of dollars worth of work... and since we still need a truck for the work we need to do to the house, we didn't trade it in--we'll just use it when we need it, and keep it maintained. With a little care and low usage, it will last us for quite a few more years. It would have been worth almost nothing as a trade in, due to the age (2007) and mileage.
But, about ten years ago, I got a credit card called the GM Rewards card (this isn't an advertisement, I swear), which basically means that 1 percent of whatever we use it for goes into an account and could be used on the purchase of any new GM vehicle. Unlimited amount, unlimited time, rewards never expire. We use credit very responsibly, as neither of us like being in debt, and that card has always been used for all our automatic payments to electric/ phone /gas/ satellite TV, etc. We pay it off completely every month, so never pay interest. So... fast forward to ten years later, we bought a Chevy Spark (which is a GM car), and we were able to use those accumulated rewards for a 25% down payment.
Even better - this car gets 38 miles to the gallon, and his truck gets about 16. He was spending $150 a month (or more) for fuel--and that should come down to about $60. That $90 savings each month is about half the amount of the monthly payment on the car! And I've just finished budgeting it so that we can pay it off, along with the house by the end of 2021. That is, if the good Lord's willing and the creeks don't rise. (Translation for the non-Southern US citizens, as "as long as nothing unforeseen happens."). The best part of all for me is that this car, for the next three years, has a bumper to bumper warranty, including the tires. That's HUGE. I was tired of worrying about him driving on the freeway into work every day in that old truck. Never been fond of little cars, but he seems to like it, and it has 10 airbags - basically, if something happens, a giant marshmallow will explode all around him. Makes me happy.
This is what it looks like:
Okay, now that's done... my weight is staying the same. The health issues remain the same - still seeing the doc on Friday. So tired of being tired of being tired! But... hopefully resolution after some testing. Will ask him to test my iron and thyroid, as well, as either one of them could be affected by whatever this is that's going on.
Happy Sunday--whether future or just past--to all and sundry. Thinking about Michele and Denise, hope all's gone well, and mom and baby are doing fine. Got to talk to both my kids this weekend, John's doing well in school, which tells me his head is in a much better place than this time last year, when he was not in a good place mentally. Kelsey is happily planning her change of duty station to Kansas, and we should see her some time in September or thereabouts.
Love y'all!

How I felt today.
No, it's not snowy down near the bay where we are ... but it is at higher elevations and it never really warmed up today with a chilly breeze. One of the first days this autumn where I've felt the chill of winter.
I'm actually sitting here with a hot water bottle on my tummy.
We went out and bought jackets today for the upcoming season ... and I got some tights and a pair of thermal leggings.
I have had NO energy today. We were supposed to cycle, but it just felt so chilly. Then we were supposed to do some sort of workout in the basement. But I just couldn't get up the energy for that. I'm still fighting this flu, and I'm frantically working on uni homework.
I've "finished" the first part of the big assignment. But when I read over the instructions again I found them really confusing. The assignment indicates that the whole entire point of the assignment is a) a policy document, b) a consultant report, and c) a tender. In my world, those are three different things. So when I asked the unit head about it, her response was even more confusing!! She's insisting I come in and see her, but her hours are on Wednesday, I think, and I don't go to the university that day.
<<sigh>>
So I've moved on to two other projects.
I just want to go to sleep right now.
