Lisa KJ/Kelly is our "flip the script" guru, but I love it so much, I try to practice flippin' as much as I can!

I am in a challenging technology class this a.m., when the class got bogged down, frustrated and stuck (the instructor was teaching via a webinar so was on a screen, not teaching in person) the "facilitators" in the class noticed our frustration, so they started frantically handing out chocolate to keep us in our seats! I got out of my chair and walked out to catch my breath and deal with how infuriating it was, others stayed and chowed down on the candy :s I am not saying this to boast, whenever I got stressed/frustrated in the past, I would have been tearing into that candy, trust me. I am taking this course to learn something new, if it is of no use to me, or taught in a manner that is complete GREEK to me, I do not have to eat candy :# Isn't it fascinating to notice how our society throws food at us at a moments notice, to soothe, comfort, bribe, entertain, distract etc?

    What are you learning?

Your right ladies as much as I want to do it.. I would be stupid to do so.. so will do what I need to do .and keep trucking.. my stomach churns every darn day I come to work..

And keep applying for other jobs.

When I got the position I'm in, I had sent out 27 CVs and had done numerous interviews (phone, Skype, and in-person). It takes time and effort.

Here in Australia, a CV consists of the 2-3 page document (resume?) briefly listing our education and experience, plus a multi-page document addressing the Key Selection Criteria, plus a 1-2 page cover letter summing it all up. Each of those 27 CVs was 10-20 pages long. It's all I did with my evenings for about 6 months!!!

In Canada, it was a little bit easier because I didn't have to do the Key Selection Criteria document, but there were times when the economy wasn't doing so well that I sent out 100+ resumes/applications before I got a job. It was a numbers game ... 100 resumes/applications resulted in about 10 interviews which resulted in 1 job.

I'd recommend starting with all the places in your area where you think you'd really like to work, and send each of them a resume. In fact, it would probably be better to go to them and drop it off in person so you can make contact and see the places.

Too hot to get my gardening done. We finished the supplemental fenc for puppy as he could go right through the fence. He is very confused as to why he can’t just jump right out.

Glad Allie followed all the wise advice and suggestions. There is so much talent on this thread.

I just wanted to take a minute to comment on the resume/job search. Contrary to what our government says there are still way too many out of work here in Alberta. I went to see two different career counsellors while I was looking for work for 6 months. I found that resume layout and content are much different now than even a couple of years ago, absolutely no more than 2 pages no matter what. Everything the job posting has listed has to be in your cover letter in exact wording as so many companies now use computer programs to weed through their applicants. I applied for around 400 jobs and only had three interviews. It’s tough finding a job these days.

Had a good day at work. I’m really enjoying my coworkers.

It is a very good idea to have your resume looked at by a professional. I've done that several times throughout the years. Sometimes I've had it done by someone at one of my universities. A couple times my place of employment ran personal development seminars on the direction of the economy, where the up-coming jobs and areas of interest are, and included a resume development section. Mildly worrying when your employer runs something like that but nevertheless, I took advantage of it. I've also been employed by employment agencies (used to be called temp agencies) several times and a part of their service is to look at your resume and critique it.

Employment agencies are a great way to go - definitely an option worth considering. Some employers use them rather than having a full HR department. I have had some really good jobs through employment agencies.

It’s been a busy two days. My mom has speech therapy Monday and a doctor’s appointment Tuesday. She is recovering well from her fall last week, but they just can’t seem to get her blood pressure regulated. Hannah has dance Tuesday night while I searched the world for Dulcolax liquid for my “mother-in-law”. Finally got to the gym and it was a relief to get some down time.

Several of you have talked about cleaning around your spouse/partner. As single/never married, it is definitely easier to keep up even with a teenager at home. Hannah is great at helping out. I do have male companions/father figures for Hannah. There are times that the second income would be fantastic, but I’m very happy on my own.

Lisa in AR - I hope the grant goes well. I wrote several grants when I was at Ohio State. Our program director and division chair do most of the grant writing at the community college where I teach. Good luck!!

Michelle - I love Sally and Grumpy. They are adorable. My daughter is going to take ceramics in school this year.

Welcome to all the newcomers. This is a fantastic group. For those newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, send me a friend request and I’ll share my experiences.

I’m curious how you can have a mother-in-law if you’ve never been married???

Karen: I’m so happy that your refrigerator is better! Yay! :star:

Juliestar: Welcome to a great group!

DH had a physical therapy session today that has left him hurting and in bed. Poor guy! This is a good physical therapist but today’s session was more than Dh was ready to handle. I hope he’ll rest well toninght and feel better in the morning.

Morning ladies~am up and had my tea , going to drop Alfie at the groomers and then go get Tal and stop and walk the dogs and feed my DFIL , then off for cut and color for me and a trim for Tal.. then we have the afternoon.. will try and maybe come back here for a bit so I can work on resume.. maybe some of the paperwork for companions and homemakers.. only thing with that there is a no compete clause and I don't know if I want to do that.. even here in Connecticut which is one of the most expensive states behind Ca. and Hawaii you only get paid 10-11 bucks an hr.. need to make a bit more than that to survive.. private pay is the way to go.. so will keep hunting..
