It's a new month and a new opportunity to build and sustain healthy habits. It has helped me for years to go on this journey with friends so I hope there will be many who will join me.
The name of the thread is Women Ages 50+ but all women are welcome. You can't be too young or too old to be part of our community.
Please sign your posts with a name or nickname and a location either specific or general so we can get to know each other better and reply to each other.
Be sure to bookmark the thread so you can find it again.
My resolutions for June were to keep on doing the things that have been working for me:
*log food and exercise
*drink a lot of water
*seek every opportunity to be active
*check in with this thread daily
*read books and articles to learn more about health and fitness
I did well with this and will continue these practices into the month of July.

Thank you Barbie for being out fearless leader and keeping us forward moving! I have nothing planned for July! I have 10 pen pals I write to on a regular basis, so that is fun. They're from all over, and different ages so that's a refreshing outlook on life.
I miss Athena! Here is the latest photo. She is in a milk coma.💖
So today my middle son texted me on when we were coming back down to Vancouver. I talked to eldest son here and sometimes he is infuriating! He talks but its mostly spouting, and talking down to me. Its just that I don't understand military way of doing things. And there's no way to specify a certain weekend, because the Navy is always changing duty sections. Which makes it nearly impossible to plan anything. Finally I told my !middle son to talk with his brother directly. I know my eldest is trying to explain stuff to me. When I reiterate it back to him, ( re confirming what he said, hey that's positive communication 101 right there), I don't wish for him to repeat it louder thank you.... I made chicken fried rice, to show I'm not a total idiot. I can get my feelings hurt at the drop of a hat! I need to not sweat the small stuff.💖
Goals for JULY
-attend the gym 19 times Monday-Thursday
-go to bed at 9pm every night
-correspond with my own pals
-eat small breakfast, small lunch and portion dinner.
-send thank you box to middle son, bake cookies
-send care package to Navy son, card and brownies and jerky
-buy Christmas cards
-if its nice do some sort of yard work.
Need to copy this and put on my desk!
Hugs to those that need em!

Rebecca - The milk comma sooo cute! She has such a flawless complexion like a little porcelain doll. Navy Daughter she’s coming in late tomorrow due to flights being rescheduled so we are spending 1 less day with her boooo! No new address yet for her until she gets to the next base so Families hounding for what I can’t give yet. Good news is they scheduled her for a later flight ✈️ on the last day to give few more hours back. Hoping she likes the next place. They wait last second change everything on her too the kids aren’t in control the people with the higher command (new mom y dad they say to them) decide it all. So oh well will get her new address a few days after arrival. She has to go through the hole reprocessing routine takes 48-72hours before they will be done she can sleep 🛏 then after she crashes wakes up she’ll send it. She always gets the extra duty hours so like usual doubt she can call when JRs awake. She goes sometimes for 3 weeks with no days off if she gets a day off can’t leave base because she’s on call. When she does get to leave she crams so much in from hair cuts to grocery shopping she’s exhausted. Oh well that’s the military for you no sleep for the weary. I grew up with a Vietnam Vet Uncle helping my Dad raise me (since Mom was a full time job too plus multiple jobs family was key) I’m used to the talk lol if you can call it that. Just who their trained to be after they discharge they calm down somewhat maybe half or less. They become their drill Sargents. Got her step stools ready all 3 so she can arrive get to foods y plates. If she still can’t reach she can wake me up as soon as JR passes out.
I rely on family (almost half our family has served every war) also YouTube videos!
Navy Day in the life,Boot Camp,Job Titles, etc to understand it more. I mute 🤐 the sound a lot tho cause my Lord their music tastes are so just wow no Thankyou mute mute mute 🤐. Unmute when they talk .Sone videos have no music praise God cause it’s definitely not my taste.

Up early because I went to sleep early for me. I couldn't keep my eyes open to read. Plus I'd had a nap in the day! All that walking and dancing wore me out and wore my poor legs out. It must be dancing on the concrete. I managed half an hour's rowing in the afternoon to get some bonus calories, but otherwise lay down the rest of the day. Took ibuprofen.
Even DH was knackered and that is something!
I'm off to Portsmouth on the train today to see my girlfriend. Weather lovely. Hope to eat under an umbrella in a fish restaurant. I'm going to walk to the station to burn a few calories, but might only get some rowing in this morning. Have to beautify myself for elegant lunch.
Thank you Barbie for continuing this thread. I learn so much every day about people's lives and find myself much enriched by it. I love the little windows I have into lives so far away from me. I am the fly on the wall in so many houses. I love sharing your struggles and your triumphs.
Well done DrKatie on your weight and fitness. So hard to get back from injury. Determination is your middle name!

Hi,
This month I am carrying on and getting more serious about tackling my gut issues, in the last month I have cut out sugar and all grains- except the occasional drink when I'm on a night out- this enabled me to stop the PPI'S and my reflux is a lot better. I still take Gaviscon occasionally if I have burn. I would like to get a stool sample test to check for candida. I'm carrying on with 1200 calories a day, stopping eating 4/5 hours before bed. I would like to introduce daily walking on a treadmill.
I have a lot of food intolerances and suspected MCAS, which limits foods' and exercise.

Oops, mis-posted to June ;}
Thank you so much Barbie for keeping us going and sharing (Machka's?) Plan vs Reality cartoon.
Skimmed the last 8 pgs of June.
Belated Happy Birthday Allie!
Katla so happy to hear your RV is ready for the road. Safe travels! No bear litters, only twins... we think... ;}
pip (((hugs))) tears for you and Kirby. "hugging her as she took her last breath" what a loving final gift you gave her.
Amber sorry, but any 4 ft tall racoon counts as a bear in my book.
Evelyn and others, Joe resists keeping the garbage can in the garage as a determined bear could slash through the garage door as if it were an aluminum can. So far thoroughly rinsing containers, packing kitchen waste in cleaned out plastic dog food containers, and spraying the top of the garbage with bear spray has worked. Fingers Xd.

@Katla49 The American team was much better. they are virtually undefeated.
@auntiebk Barbara, it sounds like you are wiser than in your youth.
@drkatiebug LOL! : "I told my husband he could help me out a little with one of my goals by gaining some, but he wasn’t going for it."3 -
The beach was a nice change of pace. I started getting a cold or allergy on train there. HAdn't realised the heatwave had broken (I believe In advance of what had been predicted) the night before. I guy told me that the temperature had dropped about 25 degrees from around 100 to 75 in the evening in 15 minutes during a windstorm at 8pm on Saturday.
When I arrived at 10:30 am it was 59° out and with wind and very odd raindrop. 1st stop was to shop to buy a polar fleece. there was almost nothing but fortunately I found one in the small of men's department.
thank goodness! I only have one long-lived polar fleece and am low on clothes so it's no waste- though I'd have chosen a women's cut rather than a spacious men's cut. the size is ok but quite lose. the first few hours were rough. I was tired and had runny nose, and a bit chilled. then the sun started to peak out and I found a low-wind spot, and it really warmed up. it was not hot but quite warm in the sun. I only went for a dip at first since I had chills and didn't feel great. then later I felt better and splashed around for longer. the water temperature was said to be around low 70s which is quite warm for this area.
I got this new waterproof pouch so as to be able to swim without worrying about phone, credit card etc. it really worked!
the end of the day was nice. the carshare driver extended the departure time to 10:30 rather than 10pm, still daylight here in this season. I was thus able to watch the sunset at 10:09, which I LOVE over the sea. got dropped off at 1 am, about 15 min walk from home.
in this town (this is rare) getting a full meal is often cheaper than a main dish. I had mussels for appetiser (delicious), cod for main dish (a bit boring, not so much flavour) and I didn't feel like having a sweet desert so I got a tiny triangle of camembert. a bit boring too, but happy to have that rather than pie or chocolate mousse, etc. I got a sorbet as a treat in the afternoon but I enjoyed the 1st bite or 2 and then not so much.
it was a good change of pace. did a lot of leisurely walking, and laid on the beach and read and dozed much of the afternoon.
tired today, but a good tired.5 -

Thanks Barbie your post reminded me to turn the calendar to July!!
I am at maintenance weight and staying with my mission to eat foods to lower my ldl cholesterol. To stay on track I read my mission goals, daily check list and food plan every day to stay strong.
Our upstairs replacement windows get installed today and then I can paint the trim white and hang new mini blinds-this should make the upstairs bedrooms look better.
My daughter Rachel is home so after dinner we walked to local ice cream stand. I didn’t partake! Just enjoyed the cool evening and the chance to catch up with her.

Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
Thank you, Barbie, for getting us off on the right foot for July!
The "city" we live in (population 1,399) had its July 4 celebration last night after we went to bed, and a few of the fireworks blasts literally rattled our windows. Gave up finally and got up and read until that was all over, and then a few hours more, as I still wasn't sleepy... so less than four hours' sleep. Grrf. Corey slept like the proverbial baby. Ah well, it's once a year.
I am lighter going out of June than I was going into it, which makes me happy. My ambition for July is the same. Be lighter.
Katla - Traveling grace!
Sparkly in the UK - welcome!
Three days of work, then a week off. Swapped my Aleve (naproxen) for Tylenol (paracetamol, acetaminophen) a few weeks early in preparation for the scopes they're going to be doing on July 9... and as a pleasant side effect, finally rid myself of the mouth ulcers that have been plaguing me since March. I've had that reaction in years past to other prescription anti-inflammatories, so I was afraid that might be the case. Took ten years to finally react to it, but now that I have, I won't be able to take it again. Unfortunately, Tylenol doesn't work nearly as well, and it has its own side effects at high doses, which I'm trying to avoid. Blah. Evidently, the knee replacement surgery changed my body chemistry somewhat. Will stay off Aleve for a while, and talk to the doc at the next opportunity about alternatives... not sure there are many left.
But... renewed months always provide renewed vigor in my effort to get my health under control. Once the scopes are done, I need to make a dental appointment for a long-delayed cleaning as well..
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR5 -
Monday 1 July
Went to work early to try to finish a submission I was working on last week. Something's wrong with their submission site.
Dashed out to have my orthotics checked. I had missed the message that my podiatrist was ill so my appointment was moved to Wednesday.
Dashed up to a running shop to acquire the wherewithal to set up our home gym (bluetooth stuff). Placed order!
Dashed back to work.
IT was finally able to reinstall MS Office and get my Outlook working so I can actually do my work. It hasn't been working for the past 10 days or so ... not easy to get my EOY stuff done!!
Spent the day catching up and organising stuff.
Late this morning, I got a phone call from my husband ... a pipe burst in our kitchen. Fortunately he was home! He turned off the water & rang our rental agency. Then he moved and dried what he could (stuff out of lower cupboards, water on the floor), and the rental agency sent out a plumber and carpet cleaner very quickly to take care of things. Nevertheless, he's exhausted. And we've got a noisy high power fan going all night. And there are still things to dry in the basement which will have to happen tomorrow.
The wind is gusting to 85 km/h outside and we've got to have a window open slightly to help the fan work to dry things out. Cool & breezy in here! I think I'm going to change into my pyjamas and heavy dressing gown.
After I got the news about the kitchen, I dashed off to my Dr. I've had uterus polyps and precancer (and surgery to remove the polyps) twice (2015 and 2017). I've got some of the same symptoms again, and it's time for my annual precancer check anyway. Ultrasound in a couple days then an appointment with my gyn onc.
So when I got home, we went out to our favourite Indian restaurant for dinner. We're a little bit concerned about electrical things in the kitchen! Plus it is noisy. Plus we're tired. It was just easier to go for a nice meal. I got my favourite ... Saag Paneer.

Good morning all! Happy Monday! Happy Canada Day to all of our Canadian gals!
Allie- Happy belated birthday!
Barbie- Thank you for bringing us into another month!
Well, I am down to 230! lol I feel like have been a constant yo-yo between 226 and 240 since I began my journey on mfp. But down is good. I just need to continue on the downward slope.
My goals for the month of July: I have one goal.
**Keep the alcohol to a minimum. Let's see ...define minimum...how about one drink/week. Not one bottle of wine per week, or one drink/day. I have my vacation week coming up this month, as well as taking a day and a half off to go to the ELO concert with my sister (visiting from FL). SO. ONE. DRINK. PER. WEEK. Period. Oh geez! I forgot about the fourth of July gathering at my brother in law's house! Hoo-boy! Parties at their house is like open bar on a cruise ship (except free). They entertain a LOT, so they have every kind of drink imaginable. Well, that will be my one drink for this week, then I will have to fake them out with juice/tonic water.
I am now 13 days away from seeing Joaquin! Eeek! So excited! The yard will need one more mowing before they arrive (so that I don't need to do it while they are here). And I will need to keep up with the flower beds so that I don't need to spend a lot of time on those, either. This week I will be power washing the house, taking pics of some items and putting them up on Marketplace, I also need to borrow my bil's chainsaw and trim a couple of trees in the back, so I can set up the play house under the big pine. Trimming trees means a fire; but maybe I will save that for when my daughter is here, so Joaquin can experience a fire and s'mores!
I have my red, white, and blue streamers and flags up in the house. It will stay decorated for the week, as our theme is Explore Patriotic (Where I live). They will be learning about our city, state, country this week. I have the sprinkler and two kiddie pools set up. One of my daycare mommies found me a triplet stroller! So...she is bringing that to me this morning! New Wheels! Whoot!
Kids arriving! Gotta fly! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Thanks for helping me get July off to a great start! I've been doing small daily goals and it's been working for me. I need to focus on 2 things. 1st is to get more active. Stop sitting at the computer and put down the boo once in a while and WALK! 2nd is that I definitely need to drink more water to flush the toxins. Keep up the inspirations!

Thank you Barbie for getting us off to a fresh start/fresh month!
Allie - Happy Belated Birthday!
Barbara AHMOD - Look at those cute little bears! Sure hope the bleach/pepper spray plan works out. I guess Joe is all better from his pneumonia?
Katla - enjoy your hopefully quiet few days away from the Washington boomers. If the folks who think its fun to make noise actually spent any time in a real war zone, they might not enjoy it so much. My DH would tense up and get flashbacks to Vietnam for years, especially when he'd hear the whistling "incoming". Thankfully he's over that now and it's just the dog who freaks. So far it hasn't been too bad in our neighborhood.
Pip - so glad you were able to be with Bullwinkle when she passed, and that she was at home, peaceful. We should all be so lucky when it's our time.
Rebecca - I heard someone say alcoholism is cunning. I'm a huge fan of a 12 step program, but your sis will have to work the plan. I once had a boss who did the 30 meetings in 30 days years ago, then once or twice weekly meetings ever since. He's been sober for decades. Good idea letting your sons work out the travel to Vancouver logistics. Nice that they want you to come back and visit.
Machka - I love hearing about your coming chilly weather. Takes our minds off the sauna/steambath in many parts of the USA this week. Bummer about the burst pipe- great your DH was home and able to mop up the water. Crossing fingers your doc appointment turns out well. When Rodgers & Hammerstein wrote "I Enjoy Being a Girl" I don't think they were considering our troublesome lady parts.
Heather - I always enjoy the activities/dancing/shopping you are able to participate in now that you've moved to where the action is. What fun to see your DH doing so many things with you. Hope the plumber gets the radiator fixed up. We watched a presentation on TV yesterday about Stonehenge. Have you been there?
NY Karen - is Rachel home for the summer? Glad to hear you are doing so well!
Beth - and glad to hear YOU are doing so well also! I would gladly share some of my extra with my skinny husband too.
Ok ladies... make it a great Monday!

Mary in PA
Hi Mary, Those are great things to focus on. I have a pedometer so I feel like I'm "getting credit" for walking because I see the numbers go up. Also I found out how to listen to audio books on my smart phone so I can enjoy a book and a walk at the same time. Drinking water was a tough goal for me and I've had to drink water in the same spirit as talking prescribed medicine.

There have been many times I've not been all that keen on being a girl.
I'm sitting here all wrapped up in my heavy dressing gown and sheepskin slippers with earbuds in, listening to Jazz and trying to drown out the powerful and noisy fan that is drying out the carpet and cupboards. It has to be on all night (and the window has to be open all night too!) but fortunately we can close off the back of the house so that it will be warmer and quieter there. Also it is only supposed to go down to 8C tonight ... not bad, thank goodness!
But it could have been a lot worse if it happened at the beginning of a weekend we were away!!
