Annie, Yes, it's a challenge to manage eating when someone else cooks. Recently my husband decided he wanted to cook and I'm challenged at finding the balance between eating the foods that are right for me and being a good support to him in his new hobby. He has to restrict sodium so for him, any food with little or no sodium is a great food. He bought a bread maker and a book about low sodium bread making. It has been difficult explaining to him that low sodium and low calorie are not the same thing.
Amber, it will be a no sleep night here, as well. Our dog, Bessie, can hear even quiet pops outside and is terrified.

Annie Delaware- years ago was a single mom stuck with my parents even tho I had a home wasn’t safe to live in it alone with little girl (others had left home for college). Was hard so had food in a dresser for us separate from my parents area (tuna packets mainly y goldfish crackers to vegan foods for Daughter) y we found low calorie restaurants that were cheap bought tacos 🌮 to vegan foods. Rest of the time refused to let anyone make our plates I made them (parents didn’t understand what a pescatarian is (Daughter is a Pescatarian since birth)) if I made our plate I controlled portions y content. I talked with my parents about healthier options they weren’t going to 180* mom had schizophrenia y retardation so had to be kid friendly like options for her but healthy.Dad diabetic so that limited changes too. Did convince them to get lettuce 🥬 y tomatoes 🍅 y cucumbers 🥒 so made 🥗 salads a lot with my tuna packet. They got A few other items not many but anything helped.
Now my adult daughter (raised herd of kids but this is my Biological kid here from the Navy visiting) were eating out a lot with my Dad learned if you eat half take the rest home I’m still in my calories range.

Happy Independence Day my US friends. I belong to a Bariatric Eating group for those who have had bariatric surgery. We have such a different diet and calorie requirements due to now having a stomach the size of an egg, that MFP is not geared to in my daily food and nutritional requirement, I do try to keep up here because I love hearing what's happening with you all. Following is what I posted this morning and wanted to share with you all. As a bit of explanation one of the leaders had made reference to Independence Day from being morbidly obese,. Fo!!owing is my post in reply.
Good morning BEautiful Carrie. Independence Day indeed. Cafe Bella in my coffee. We went to dinner last night at a seafood boil restaurant for a family birthday. Knowing husband's ex would be there, I wanted to look my best. Put on skinny jeans, flattering top and tall blingy sandals. I stood in front of my full length mirror and teared up. Who was that slim white haired lady smiling back at me? That's me, that's me. I hope I never loose this feeling of awe. My surgery will soon be six years ago, exactly one week before Christmas. I had my usual houseful of family and friends for Christmas Dinner. I cooked for everyone and drank my protein and was not phased in the least. I was SO READY to be on my way to becoming that lady in the mirror smi!ing back at me last night.
I'm now a few pounds under my lowest post surgery weight at the bariatric surgeon's office and I feel great!! Have a terrific 4th my dear friends

Another incredibly busy day at work, but accomplished a few things ... working my way through the long list of things I need to do.
One of my coworkers and I are also trying to get what will be the foundation of my new website up and working. For some reason my domain name provider and hosting site aren't cooperating with me. If I don't get a response from tech support soon, there's going to be a change!
Lots of walking again -- 6.2 km. Most of it was in the correct footwear but the evening's walking was not. I was wearing high heeled boots. Love the boots, don't like what they do to my feet!
Why was I in high heeled boots this evening?
My husband I went to a Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra concert: The Best of Rodgers and Hammerstein! It was great! Really incredible.
We had Scott Davies: https://www.tso.com.au/artists/scott-davies/ and Emma Williams: https://www.tso.com.au/artists/emma-williams/ singing. They did a brilliant job on everything, but I particularly liked their duet on If I Loved You from Carousel. Chills!! And they did You'll Never Walk Alone as an encore which had both my husband and me in tears.
One touching moment happened right at the beginning. We had front row seats, but they aren't the best seats because they are really close to the stage so you can't see the entire orchestra. But they aren't very expensive and I think they were the last seats available in a sold out performance.
There was an elderly couple next to us. He looked older than she, and she was busy fussing about the quality of the seats and how they couldn't see etc. He looked kind of glazed over and was just sitting there not saying anything while she continued to fuss. Then the lights went down and the Overture started, which included snippets from all sorts of Rodgers and Hammerstein pieces. His face lit up and he had a big bright smile, then he reached over and took her hand and beamed at her. He held her hand for a long time, smiling and listening to the music. It looked like it brought back memories.
We had a truly lovely evening.

Lanette- staying on keto for the rest of your life would be a great way to eat. I tried to eat that way most of the time now that I am on maintenance. I love the food! I am just not strict now that I am at maintenance. I am actually still losing fat. Doing recomposition I am trying to build muscle. But the keto food diet is great for your body and especially your brain. I also do the 19:5 fasting and That really helps with calorie control. Now I eat more of my exercise calories back.3

Regarding being like parents ...
I'm not really like either of my parents. If I take after anyone, it's my father's mother (my grandmother) and that's OK, she was a very strong, determined woman.
However, in the last few months, I've been hearing my mother's voice emerging from my mouth. She was a nurse, so I'll be with my husband in a medical appointment, and all of a sudden hear my mother say something ... but it's me speaking! It is a little bit disconcerting, but I guess some of her nursing must have rubbed off on me.
Once recently I heard my father's voice emerge from my mouth ... he tends to be the one making cracking jokes and right at the beginning of one of my husband's tests, I just couldn't help myself. Well, the technician laughed.

@megblair1 thank you. today has been better so far. my emotions seem to be very up and down of late. I can relate about the medication. I don't take much but when I'm supposed to I don't always remember it. I don't have anything super-serious at present so it's not too bad. how was the massage? I went to osteopath which has some similarities. he's a bit half massage and half-counselling. I tell him what's up in my life and body (tired, stressed, distracted, etc) and then he works on body. it usually is overall good. I go at variable intervals. I used to go 1x a month when I had tough emotional stuff and also orthodontic work going on. since money has been tight and I've been less stressed I cut back to a few times a year, irregularly. (maybe 3-5 times a year?) kind of you to have posted to everyone.
@fanncy0626 I don't know anything about Keto. increasing over 25 carbs over what ? over 50g? I never heard of strips. I was just reading about Keto on mayo clinic site. it seems to have mixed reviews : like it works for some and not so much for others. I guess it's worth trying. so far not there.

Happy 4th of July to those concerned! or peaceful one to those uneasy with the sound!
Here on Bastille day (July 14th) a few places are jam packed with firecrackers( illegal) being thrown often and people occasionally getting one in the ear or something. I'm not mad about fireworks and they are supposed to be quite bad for the environment too, (birds, air) if I'm not mistaken. I used to try to get enthused like most other people seemed to be when I was young but I never could really. but I remember once when camping seeing a nice one to great musical background. I think the music made it much more than the fireworks really. but like anything visual or auditive it can be beautifully done.
On Bastille day many many forestation have forestation balls, with dancing from early evening till late in the evening all invited. in the countryside it can be cute and quaint (though a bit folksy for some tastes). In the city it can be ok the first few hours but then tends to get packed and rowdy by 9:30. being small, being in a crowd is not that great. (seeing other people's backs and arms in front of my face).
I have occasionally been to picnic in front of Eiffel Tower. you have to arrive at noon to get a place for 11pm fireworks, and again I feel like there's this pressure to be celebratory. I enjoy more lowkey events like a little meal or moment with one or a few friends or family.4 -

Well it has been a lovely day...took Alfie to the beach early,then went down to the main beach to stop at a store I like then our friend Rob and I went to a nice seafood lunch.. I'm sure I went over calories and ate a couple non keto foods but am getting alot of walking in so that will help..
I had lobster stuffed stuffed mushrooms and sauted lobster.ohhh what a treat...

My son and DDIL had a lovely day, designing an eternity ring and visiting old haunts in London of their early relationship. That included a 'wild swim' on Hampstead Heath. They got back just after 6 pm. Phew!
Loved every minute of the day, but sooooooooooooo tiring in the heat. My walking was off and uncomfortable. Wonderful to see the kids though. I managed most of my exercises before Bea arrived at 9 am.
DS drove us home, thank goodness. I ache all over! Edie made us a picture with flowers and hearts and DH and me holding hands, which said , "We will stay together. No matter what happens we will stay together. " Aaaaww! She is only 5.
We finished off yesterday's lentil and chorizo stew with salad. Unfortunately it went very well with a nice glass of red wine.
DH has bought me two box sets of the Swedish Wallander series. The first time I watched some of them I wasn't learning Swedish, so it will be interesting to see them again.
Now just relaxing on my own sofa. KJ , how do you do it!?

I have been having about 150 carbs average per day over past months. trying to bring it down. wow! not easy. one treat and boom! well I'm trying new stuff since the system that worked for past years (decades) just isn't working anymore.2

KETO is working awesome for me. Lost 60 pounds as of this morning all but 10 have been since December on KETO. Yes carbs are low but if you research KETO and what carbs do to you, you will find it easier to give them up. Check out diet doctor website for info to get you started.

Happy 4th everybody! I have bbq pork tenderloin in a crock pot and will roast some veggies to go with it. I’m going to bring my mom over to my house so I don’t have to carry things to her house.
My daughter went to a friend’s house. The friend was going to be the only young person at her parents event. Then again, Hannah would have been the only young person here. This way they can have a little fun.

Happy 4th for those celebrate!! We are having a quiet day here, DD and I. All of our critters are OK with the noise and DS's dog that we are sitting is very old and mostly deaf so I think we will be good tonight. Have not been on here posting for the last couple of months because DH went on hospice in early May. He passed shortly after on May 9. We had his celebration of life service on June 22 so had family and friends from out of town here. Still dealing with paperwork but I think making progress. I gained some weight after his diagnosis in October with terminal liver cancer and during the treatment and his death. Now it seems to be headed down again. I felt like I spent a tremendous amount of time sitting in doctor's offices and rarely made it to the YM. DS, DD and DGD were all able to be here at the time of death so I think it was a good passing. Pastor also dropped in and stayed the day with us.
Beth - Sounds like you had a rough month. Hope this one is better.
Allie - Glad you are enjoying the beach.
Pip - So sorry to hear about Winkle. Hard to lose our furry friends.
Meg - Glad to see you back on here. Boy Omaha has really been hit by weather events this year.
I agreed to substitute teach an arthritis water exercise class at the YM on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. That is one way to make sure I get there but coming up with music for it has been a challenge. I am not a techie!

It has been my experience both on MFP and in life that many people jump on the bandwagon and only a few stay. I joined a 100 day challenge once that had over 200 people signed up and by the end of the 100 days there were only four people still posting. This group has a long history but even here, there are many who have posted for awhile and then drifted away. I want to stay connected to people who are consistent and I've found them on this thread. I check in daily and appreciate all of the rest of you who do the same and have stayed committed to the journey of health and fitness.

Hi, I'm Lori and new to this group, I just turned 57 last Friday and after a few health scares in the last few weeks, have decided to seriously, get back on track with losing weight. Maybe it's finally what I needed to get going again. I work as co-teacher in a preschool/daycare. Four and 5-year-olds all day! I live in Vermont! My husband just had a gastric sleeve surgery done in Dec and has lost 162 pounds. I plan on losing weight by exercising and watching my calories. My fitness pal has been a help, and I just got a fitbit for my birthday. I just thought maybe joining a group might be the extra support I'm looking for.12

Welcome Lori. :flowerforyou: You can do it through healthy eating and exercise. It's good that your DH is also turning a corner, even if it is a different one. I used to be very unfit, almost disabled, and obese. I am doing much, much better now - it just took me a while to do it. For me the secret was to gradually increase my exercise level as well as log my food. The secret is to do what you can and gradually increase it. You will one day be amazed at yourself!
